If your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2886 is not printing, try the following solutions:

• Open the print queue list and remove the document from the list.

• Remove the driver and install it again.

• Select your machine as your default machine in your Windows settings.

If a paper jam has occurred, follow these steps:

• Open and close the front door.

• Check the instructions on removing jammed paper in the user manual and troubleshoot accordingly.

If your printouts are blurry, try these troubleshooting steps:

• The toner level might be low or uneven. Shake the toner cartridge.

• Try a different print resolution setting.

• Replace the toner cartridge.

If the status LED is flashing or constantly on, please do the following:

• Turn the product off and on again.

• Check the meanings of LED indications in your user manual and troubleshoot accordingly.

Please follow these safety warnings and precautions to prevent injury and damage to your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2886.

Operating Environment:

• Do not use if the power cord is damaged or if the electrical outlet is not grounded.

• Do not place anything on top of the machine (water, metal objects, candles, etc.).

• If the machine overheats, releases smoke, makes strange noises, or generates an odd odor, immediately turn off the power and unplug it.

• Do not bend or place heavy objects on the power cord.

• Do not remove the plug by pulling on the cord; do not handle the plug with wet hands.

• During an electrical storm or for a period of non-operation, remove the power plug from the electrical outlet.

Operating Method:

• Be careful, the paper output area can get hot and cause burns.

• Do not forcefully pull the paper out during printing.

• Be careful not to put your hand between the machine and paper tray.

• When printing large quantities, the bottom part of the paper output area may get hot. Do not allow children to touch.

• Do not allow too many papers to stack up in the paper output tray.

Installation / Moving:

• Before moving the machine, turn the power off and disconnect all cords. Use the appropriate number of people to lift the device safely based on its weight.

• Choose a flat, stable surface with enough space for ventilation.

• Do not place the machine on an unstable surface.

• Do not put a cover over the machine or place it in an airtight location, such as a closet.

Maintenance / Checking:

• Unplug the product from the wall outlet before cleaning the inside of the machine. Do not use benzene, paint thinner, or alcohol.

• When working inside the machine, do not operate it to avoid injury.

• Do not disassemble, repair, or rebuild the machine yourself. Call a certified technician for repairs.

Supply Usage:

• Do not disassemble the toner cartridge.

• Do not burn supplies such as a toner cartridge or fuser unit.

• When storing supplies, keep them away from children.

• If toner gets on your clothing, do not use hot water to wash it. Hot water sets toner into fabric. Use cold water instead.

To turn on your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2886:

1. Connect the machine to the electricity supply first.

2. Turn the switch on if the machine has a power switch.

3. For some models, you may also need to press the (Power/Wake Up) button to turn the machine on.

To install the driver for your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2886 on a Windows computer with a local (USB) connection:

1. Make sure that the machine is connected to your computer via USB cable and powered on. Use a USB cable no longer than 3 meters (118 inches).

2. Insert the supplied software CD into your CD-ROM drive.

3. If the installation window does not appear, click Start > All programs > Accessories > Run. Type in X:\Setup.exe (replacing “X” with your CD-ROM drive letter) and click OK. For Windows 8, search for Run from Charms, then type the command.

4. Review and accept the installation agreements in the installation window. Then, click Next.

5. Select USB connection on the Printer Connection Type screen. Then, click Next.

6. Follow the instructions in the installation window. You can select additional software applications in the Select Software to Install window.

For Windows 8 Start Screen (automatic installation):

1. Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet and powered on.

2. Make sure the machine is powered on.

3. Connect the computer and the machine with a USB cable. The driver will be automatically installed from Windows Update.

If the printer driver is not working properly, follow these steps to reinstall it:

Uninstall the old driver:

1. Make sure the machine is connected to your computer and powered on.

2. From the Start menu, select Programs or All Programs > Samsung Printers > Uninstall Samsung Printer Software.

• For Windows 8, go to Charms > Search > Apps, find and click Control Panel. Then click Programs and Features. Right-click the driver you want to uninstall and select Uninstall.

3. Follow the instructions in the uninstallation window.

Install the new driver:

4. Insert the software CD into your CD-ROM drive and install the driver again as you did during the initial installation.

The control panel provides access to various menus to set up the machine or use its functions. An asterisk (*) appears next to the currently selected menu.

To access the menu:

1. Select the Fax, Copy, or Scan button on the control panel depending on the feature you want to use.

2. Select the (Menu) button until the menu you want appears on the bottom line of the display and press OK.

3. Press the left/right arrows until the needed menu item appears and press OK.

4. If the setting item has sub-menus, repeat step 3.

5. Press OK to save the selection.

6. Press (Stop/Clear) to return to the ready mode.

You can change machine settings like language, date & time, power save mode, and altitude adjustment through the control panel.

1. Select (Menu) > System Setup > Machine Setup on the control panel.

2. Select the option you want to change, then press OK.

• Language: Change the language displayed on the control panel.

• Date & Time: Set the date and time, which are used for features like delayed fax. You can set the Month, Day, Year, Hour, and Minute.

• Clock Mode: Choose between a 12-hour or 24-hour format.

• Power Save: Use this feature to save power when the machine is not in use for a while.

• Altitude Adj.: Adjust this setting based on your machine’s height above sea level to optimize print quality.

3. Select your desired option for the chosen setting, then press OK.

4. Press OK to save the selection.

5. Press (Stop/Clear) to return to ready mode.

Using print media that does not meet the specified guidelines can cause poor print quality, increased paper jams, and premature wear on the machine. The following table shows the types of media that can be loaded into the tray and manual feeder.

Follow these steps to load paper into the tray:

1. Pull out the paper tray from the machine.

2. Open the paper cover.

3. Squeeze the paper width guide and pull it to the end of the tray. Also adjust the paper length guide.

4. Flex or fan the edge of the paper stack to separate the pages before loading them.

5. Place the paper in the tray with the print side facing up.

6. Squeeze the paper width guide and slide it to the edge of the paper stack without causing it to bend.

7. Close the paper cover.

8. Insert the paper tray back into the machine.

When you print a document, you will need to set the paper type and size for the tray.

You can load originals using either the scanner glass or the document feeder.

On the scanner glass (for best scan quality):

1. Lift and open the scanner lid.

2. Place the original face down on the scanner glass, aligning it with the registration guide at the top left corner.

3. Close the scanner lid.

In the document feeder:

1. Flex or fan the edge of the paper stack to separate the pages before loading.

2. Load the original face up into the document feeder input tray. Make sure the bottom of the stack matches the paper size marked on the tray.

3. Adjust the document feeder width guides to the paper size.

The following steps are for printing from Notepad in Windows 7, but the general process is similar for other applications.

1. Open the document you want to print.

2. Select Print from the File menu.

3. Select your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2886 from the Select Printer list.

4. Set basic settings like the number of copies and print range within the Print window. To access advanced features, click Properties or Preferences.

5. To start the print job, click OK or Print in the Print window.

If a print job is waiting in the print queue or print spooler, you can cancel it in two ways:

• From your computer: Double-click the printer icon in the Windows taskbar to open the print queue window, then cancel the job from there.

• From the printer: Cancel the current job by pressing the (Stop/Clear) button on the control panel.

The Eco function reduces toner and paper usage. You can enable it from either the control panel or the printer driver.

Setting Eco Mode on the Control Panel:

1. Select (Menu) > System Setup > Machine Setup > Eco Settings on the control panel.

2. Select the option you want and press OK.

• Default Mode: Select On to enable Eco mode with default settings (Duplex, Toner save, 2-up, Skip blank pages) or Off to disable it.

• Change Template: Follow the settings configured in Syncthru™ Web Service or Samsung Easy Printer Manager.

3. Press OK to save the selection.

Setting Eco Mode on the Driver:

1. Open the printing preferences for your document.

2. Go to the Eco tab.

3. Choose an Eco option:

• Printer Default: Follows the settings from the machine’s control panel.

• None: Disables Eco mode.

• Eco Printing: Enables Eco mode and allows you to activate various eco items.

To make a simple copy, follow these steps:

1. Select (copy) > (Menu) > Copy Feature on the control panel, or just ensure the printer is in copy mode.

2. Place a single document on the scanner glass or in the document feeder.

3. If you want to customize settings like Reduce/Enlarge, Darkness, or Original type, use the control panel buttons.

4. Enter the number of copies you want using the arrow keys or number keypad.

5. Press the (Start) button.

To cancel the copy job during operation, press (Stop/Clear).

This feature prints both sides of a small item, like a business card or ID card, onto the upper and lower half of a single sheet of paper without reducing the size.

1. Press the ID Copy button on the control panel.

2. Place the front side of the ID card facing down on the scanner glass as indicated by the arrows. Close the scanner lid.

3. The display will show “Place Front Side and Press [Start]”.

4. Press Start. The machine will scan the front side and the display will show “Place Back Side and Press [Start]”.

5. Turn the ID card over and place it on the scanner glass as indicated. Close the scanner lid.

6. Press Start again. The printer will then print both scanned sides onto one page.

This is a basic scanning method for a USB-connected machine.

1. Place a single document face down on the document glass, or load documents face up into the document feeder.

2. Select (scan) > Scan to PC > Local PC on the control panel. (Alternatively, select Scan to > Local PC).

3. If you see a “Not Available” message, check the port connection or ensure “Enable Scan from Device Panel” is selected in Samsung Easy Printer Manager.

4. Select the application program you want to scan to (default is My Documents) and press OK.

5. Select any other options you want and press OK.

6. Scanning begins. The scanned image is saved in your computer’s C:\Users\[user name]\My Documents folder. The saved folder may differ depending on your operating system.

Before sending a fax, ensure the supplied line cord is connected to your telephone wall jack.

1. Place your document(s) on the scanner glass or in the document feeder.

2. Select the (fax) button on the control panel.

3. Adjust the resolution and darkness settings to suit your needs.

4. Enter the destination fax number using the number keypad.

5. Press the (Start) button on the control panel. The machine will start to scan and send the fax.

To ensure optimal performance and the longest life from your toner cartridge, follow these recommendations:

• Store the cartridge in the same temperature and humidity-controlled environment where the printer is used.

• Keep the cartridge in its original, unopened package until installation.

• If the original packaging is not available, cover the top opening of the cartridge with paper and store it in a dark cabinet.

• Store the cartridge lying flat (not standing on end).

Do not store consumables in any of the following conditions:

• Temperature greater than 40°C (104°F).

• Humidity range less than 20% or greater than 80%.

• An environment with extreme changes in humidity or temperature.

• Direct sunlight or room light.

• Dusty places.

• In a car for a long period of time.

• An environment with corrosive gases or salty air.

When the toner cartridge is near the end of its life, you may see white streaks or light printing. You can temporarily improve print quality by redistributing the remaining toner.

1. Open the front cover.

2. Pull the toner cartridge out of the machine.

3. Gently shake the cartridge from side to side to redistribute the toner.

4. Reinsert the toner cartridge into the machine until it clicks into place.

5. Close the front cover securely.

When a toner cartridge has reached the end of its life, the machine will stop printing. Follow these steps to replace it:

1. Open the front cover.

2. Remove the old toner cartridge from the machine.

3. Unpack the new toner cartridge and gently shake it from side to side to distribute the toner.

4. Remove the protective cover from the new cartridge.

5. Insert the new toner cartridge into the machine, aligning it with the tracks, and push it in until it clicks into place.

6. Close the front cover securely.

Regular cleaning helps maintain the best printing condition. Always turn the machine off and unplug the power cord before cleaning.

Cleaning the Outside:

Clean the machine cabinet with a soft, lint-free cloth. Dampen the cloth slightly with water, but be careful not to let any water drip onto or into the machine.

Cleaning the Inside:

1. Open the front cover.

2. Remove the toner cartridge.

3. With a dry, lint-free cloth, wipe away any dust and spilled toner from the toner cartridge area and the cavity.

4. Re-install the toner cartridge.

5. Close the front cover.

Cleaning the Pickup Roller:

1. Open the front cover.

2. Pull the paper tray out.

3. Wipe the pickup roller with a lint-free cloth dampened with water.

4. Re-install the paper tray and close the front cover.

Cleaning the Scan Unit:

1. Slightly dampen a soft, lint-free cloth or paper towel with water.

2. Lift and open the scanner lid.

3. Wipe the surface of the scanner glass and the document feeder glass (if applicable) until they are clean and dry.

4. Wipe the underside of the scanner lid and the white sheet until they are clean and dry.

5. Close the scanner lid.

By selecting the correct media and loading it properly, most paper jams can be avoided. Refer to the following guidelines:

• Ensure that the adjustable guides in the tray are positioned correctly.

• Do not overload the tray. Ensure the paper level is below the paper capacity mark.

• Do not remove paper from the tray while your machine is printing.

• Flex, fan, and straighten paper before loading.

• Do not use creased, damp, or highly curled paper.

• Do not mix paper types and sizes in a single tray.

• Use only recommended print media.

When an original document jams in the document feeder, a warning message appears on the display. To avoid tearing the document, remove it slowly and carefully.

Original paper jam in front of scanner:

1. Open the document feeder cover.

2. Gently pull the jammed paper out of the feeder.

3. Close the document feeder cover.

Original paper jam inside of scanner:

1. Open the document feeder cover.

2. If you see the jammed paper, gently pull it out.

3. If you cannot see the paper, open the inner cover of the document feeder.

4. Gently pull the jammed paper out.

5. Close the inner cover and then the main document feeder cover.

Original paper jam in exit area of scanner:

1. Remove any remaining pages from the document feeder.

2. Gently pull the jammed paper from the document feeder exit area.

To avoid tearing the paper, always pull the jammed paper out slowly and gently.

In the tray:

1. Pull the paper tray out.

2. Remove the jammed paper by gently pulling it straight out.

3. Insert the paper tray back into the machine until it snaps into place.

Inside the machine:

1. Open and close the front cover to automatically eject the jammed paper. If it doesn’t eject, proceed to the next step.

2. Open the front cover.

3. Remove the toner cartridge.

4. Gently pull the jammed paper out of the machine.

5. Reinsert the toner cartridge.

6. Close the front cover. Printing will resume automatically.

In the exit area:

Gently pull the jammed paper out of the exit area. If there is resistance and the paper does not move, or if you cannot see the paper, check the fuser area inside the machine.
