• Open the print queue list and remove the document from the list.

• Remove the driver and install it again.

Operating Environment:

• Do not bend, or place heavy objects on the power cord.

• Do not remove the plug by pulling on the cord; do not handle the plug with wet hands.

• During an electrical storm or for a period of non-operation, remove the power plug from the electrical outlet.

• Do not place the machine in an area with dust, humidity, or water leaks.

• Choose a flat surface with enough space for ventilation. The place should be well-ventilated and far from direct light, heat, and humidity.

Operating Method:

• Be careful, the paper output area is hot. Burns could occur.

• Do not forcefully pull the paper out during printing.

• Be careful not to put your hand between the machine and paper tray.

• When printing large quantities, the bottom part of the paper output area may get hot. Do not allow children to touch.

• Do not allow too many papers to stack up in the paper output tray.

Installation / Moving:

• Before moving the machine, turn the power off and disconnect all cords. The machine could fall, causing injury or machine damage.

• Do not place the machine on an unstable surface.

• Make sure you plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.

Maintenance / Checking:

• Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning the inside of the machine. Do not clean with benzene, paint thinner or alcohol; do not spray water directly into the machine.

• Do not disassemble, repair or rebuild the machine by yourself. Call a certified technician when the machine needs repairing.

Supply Usage:

• Do not burn any of the supplies such as toner cartridge or fuser unit.

• Using recycled supplies, such as toner, can cause damage to the machine.

• When changing the toner cartridge or removing jammed paper, be careful not to let toner dust touch your body or clothes.

1. Connect the machine to the electricity supply first.

2. Turn the switch on if the machine has a power switch.

These instructions are for a locally connected machine (attached via USB cable). Only use a USB cable no longer than 3 meters (118 inches).

1. Make sure that the machine is connected to your computer and powered on.

2. Insert the supplied software CD into your CD-ROM drive.

3. If the installation window does not appear, click Start > All programs > Accessories > Run. Type in X:\Setup.exe, replacing “X” with the letter that represents your CD-ROM drive and click OK.

• For Windows 8, if the installation window does not appear, from Charms, select Search > Apps and search for Run. Type in X:\Setup.exe. If a “Tap to choose what happens with this disc.” pop-up window appears, click the window and select Run Setup.exe.

4. Review and accept the installation agreements in the installation window. Then, click Next.

5. Select USB connection on the Printer Connection Type screen. Then, click Next.

6. Follow the instructions in the installation window. You can select the software applications in the Select Software to Install window.

If the printer driver does not work properly, follow the steps below to reinstall the driver on your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870.

1. Make sure that the machine is connected to your computer and powered on.

2. From the Start menu, select Programs or All Programs > Samsung Printers > Uninstall Samsung Printer Software.

• For Windows 8:

1. From Charms, select Search > Apps.

2. Search and click Control Panel.

3. Click Programs and Features.

4. Right-click the driver you want to uninstall and select Uninstall.

3. Follow the instructions in the installation window.

4. Insert the software CD into your CD-ROM drive and install the driver again.

The control panel on your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870 provides access to various menus to set up the machine or use its functions.

1. Select the Fax, Copy, or Scan button on the control panel depending on the feature to be used.

2. Select the (Menu) button until the menu you want appears on the bottom line of the display and press OK.

3. Press the left/right arrows until the needed menu item appears and press OK.

4. If the setting item has sub menus, repeat step 3.

5. Press OK to save the selection.

6. Press (Stop/Clear) to return to the ready mode.

An asterisk (*) appears next to the currently selected menu. Some menus may not appear on the display depending on options or models.

To change the default settings of your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870, follow these steps:

1. Select (Menu) > System Setup > Machine Setup on the control panel.

2. Select the option you want, then press OK.

• Language: change the language that is displayed on the control panel.

5. Press (Stop/Clear) button to return to ready mode.

The available paper types for duplex (2-sided) printing on your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870 depend on the power voltage of your machine. Duplex printing may not be available on all models.

To load paper into the tray of your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870, follow these illustrative steps:

1. Pull out the paper tray from the printer.

2. Open the paper cover.

3. Adjust the paper length and width guides to fit the size of the paper you are loading.

4. Flex or fan the edge of the paper stack to separate the pages before loading them.

5. Place the paper stack into the tray with the print side facing up.

6. Ensure the paper is not loaded above the maximum paper level indicator inside the tray.

7. Close the paper cover.

8. Insert the paper tray back into the machine.

When printing using the tray, do not load paper on the manual feeder, as it may cause a paper jam.

The manual feeder can hold special sizes and types of print material. Follow these tips for best results:

• Load only one type, size, and weight of print media at a time in the manual feeder.

• To prevent paper jams, do not add paper while printing when there is still paper in the manual feeder.

• Print media should be loaded face up with the top edge going into the manual feeder first and be placed in the center of the tray.

• Flatten any curl on postcards, envelopes, and labels before loading them into the manual feeder.

• When papers overlap when printing using the manual feeder, open the tray and remove the papers, then try printing again.

• When paper does not feed well while printing, push the paper in manually until it starts feeding automatically.

• When the machine is in a power save mode, it does not feed paper from the manual feeder. Wake up the machine by pressing the power button before using the manual feeder.

You can use either the scanner glass or the document feeder to load an original on your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870.

On the scanner glass:

Using the scanner glass provides the best scan quality, especially for colored or gray-scaled images. If an original is detected in the document feeder, it will have priority over the one on the scanner glass.

1. Lift and open the scanner lid.

2. Place the original face down on the scanner glass. Align it with the registration guide at the top left corner of the glass.

3. Close the scanner lid.

In the document feeder:

The document feeder can hold up to 40 sheets of paper (80 g/m², 21 lbs bond) for one job.

1. Flex or fan the edge of the paper stack to separate the pages before loading originals.

2. Load the original face up into the document feeder input tray. Make sure that the bottom of the original stack matches the paper size marked on the document input tray.

3. Adjust the document feeder width guides to the paper size.

The following steps are for printing from Notepad in Windows 7.

1. Open the document you want to print.

2. Select Print from the File menu.

3. Select your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870 from the Select Printer list.

4. The basic print settings, including the number of copies and print range, are selected within the Print window. To access advanced features, click Properties or Preferences.

5. To start the print job, click OK or Print in the Print window.

If the print job is waiting in the print queue or print spooler, you can cancel it as follows:

• Access the print queue window by double-clicking the machine icon in the Windows task bar and cancel the job from there.

• You can also cancel the current job by pressing the (Stop/Clear) button on the control panel of your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870.

The Eco function on the SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870 reduces toner consumption and paper usage. If you press the Eco button on the control panel, Eco mode is enabled. The default setting of Eco mode is double-sided printing (long edge), multiple pages per side (2-up), skip blank pages, and toner save. Some features may not be available depending on the model.

Setting Eco mode on the control panel:

1. Select (Menu) > System Setup > Machine Setup > Eco Settings on the control panel.

2. Select the option you want and press OK.

• Default Mode: Select this to turn Eco mode on or off. (Duplex, Toner save, 2-up, and Skip blank pages).

• Change Template: Follow the settings from Syncthru™ Web Service or Samsung Easy Printer Manager.

3. Press OK to save the selection.

Setting Eco mode on the driver:

Open the Eco tab in Printing Preferences to set Eco mode. When you see the eco image, it means Eco mode is currently enabled. Options include:

• Printer Default: Follows the settings from the machine’s control panel.

• None: Disables Eco mode.

• Eco Printing: Enables Eco mode and allows you to activate various eco items.

• Password: If an administrator has enabled Eco mode, you must enter a password to change the status.

To make a copy with your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870, follow these steps:

1. Select (copy) > (Menu) > Copy Feature on the control panel. Or select (Menu) > Copy Feature on the control panel.

2. Place a single document on the scanner glass or in the document feeder.

3. If you want to customize copy settings like Reduce/Enlarge, Darkness, Original, and more, use the control panel buttons.

4. Enter the number of copies using the arrow or number keypad, if necessary.

5. Press (Start).

To cancel the copying job during operation, press (Stop/Clear).

Your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870 can print 2-sided originals on one sheet, which is useful for items like business cards. This feature is not available if the machine is set to Eco mode.

1. Press ID Copy on the control panel.

2. Place the front side of the original facing down on the scanner glass where arrows indicate. Then, close the scanner lid.

3. The display will show “Place Front Side and Press [Start]”.

4. Press Start. The machine begins scanning the front side and shows “Place Back Side and Press [Start]”.

5. Turn the original over and place it on the scanner glass as indicated by the arrows. Then, close the scanner lid.

6. Press Start. The printer prints both sides on a single sheet of paper.

This is a basic scanning method for a USB-connected SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870.

1. Place a single document face down on the document glass, or load documents face up into the document feeder.

2. Select (scan) > Scan to PC > Local PC on the control panel. Or select Scan to > Local PC on the control panel.

3. If you see a “Not Available” message, check the port connection, or select “Enable Scan from Device Panel” in Samsung Easy Printer Manager > (Switch to advanced mode) > Scan to PC Settings.

4. Select the application program you want and press OK. The default setting is My Documents.

5. Select the option you want and press OK.

6. Scanning begins. The scanned image is saved in your computer’s C:\Users\[user name]\My Documents folder. The saved folder may differ depending on your operating system.

Before sending a fax, ensure the supplied line cord is connected to your telephone wall jack.

1. Place a single document face down on the document glass, or load documents face up into the document feeder.

2. Select (fax) on the control panel.

3. Adjust the resolution and darkness to suit your fax needs.

4. Enter the destination fax number.

5. Press (Start) on the control panel. The machine starts to scan and send the fax.

When the toner cartridge is near the end of its life, you may see white streaks or light printing. You can temporarily improve print quality by redistributing the remaining toner.

1. Open the front cover.

2. Pull the toner cartridge out of the machine.

3. Gently rock the cartridge from side to side 5 or 6 times to redistribute the toner evenly inside.

4. Reinsert the toner cartridge until it clicks into place.

5. Close the front cover securely.

When a toner cartridge has reached the end of its life, the machine will stop printing. Follow these steps to replace it:

1. Open the front cover.

2. Remove the old toner cartridge from the machine.

3. Unpack the new toner cartridge.

4. Gently rock the new cartridge back and forth to distribute the toner.

5. Remove the protective cover from the new cartridge.

6. Hold the new toner cartridge by its handle and slowly insert it into the opening in the machine until it clicks into place.

7. Close the front cover. Make sure that the cover is securely closed.

Clean the machine cabinet or the display screen with a soft, lint-free cloth. Dampen the cloth slightly with water, but be careful not to let any water drip onto or into the machine. Cleaning the cabinet with materials containing large amounts of alcohol, solvents, or other strong substances can discolor or distort the cabinet.

Cleaning the inside of your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870 can clear and reduce print quality problems, such as toner specks or smearing.

1. Turn the machine off and unplug the power cord. Wait for the machine to cool down.

2. Open the front cover.

3. Remove the toner cartridge.

4. With a dry, lint-free cloth, wipe away any dust and spilled toner from the toner cartridge area and the toner cartridge cavity.

5. Reinsert the toner cartridge.

6. Close the front cover.

Keeping the scan unit clean helps ensure the best possible copies.

1. Turn the machine off and unplug the power cord. Wait for the machine to cool down.

2. Slightly dampen a soft, lint-free cloth or paper towel with water.

3. Lift and open the scanner lid.

4. Wipe the surface of the scanner glass until it is clean and dry.

5. Wipe the underside of the scanner lid and the white sheet until it is clean and dry.

6. Close the scanner lid.

By selecting the correct media, most paper jams can be avoided. To avoid paper jams on your SAMSUNG XPRESS M2870, refer to the following guidelines:

• Ensure that the adjustable guides are positioned correctly.

• Do not overload the tray. Ensure that the paper level is below the paper capacity mark on the inside of the tray.

• Do not remove paper from the tray while your machine is printing.

• Flex, fan, and straighten paper before loading.

• Do not use creased, damp, or highly curled paper.

• Do not mix paper type and size in a tray.

• Use only recommended print media.

To avoid tearing the paper, pull the jammed paper out slowly and gently.

1. Pull the paper tray out of the machine.

2. Remove the jammed paper by gently pulling it straight out.

3. Insert the tray back into the machine until it clicks into place.

The fuser area is hot. Take care when removing paper from the machine.

1. Open the front cover.

2. Remove the toner cartridge.

3. Gently pull the jammed paper out of the machine.

4. Reinsert the toner cartridge back into the machine.

5. Close the front cover.
