This fireplace is designed to be smokeless. If logs ever appear to smoke, turn off fireplace and call a qualified service person.

This fireplace needs fresh air ventilation to run properly. This fireplace has an Oxygen Depletion Sensing (ODS) safety shutoff system. The ODS shuts down the fireplace if not enough fresh air is available.

Do not use this fireplace to cook food or burn paper or other objects.

If equipped, lift fireplace screen up and pull out to remove. Set screen aside until installation has been completed.

Cut two plastic straps to remove log from firebox cavity. Set log aside.

Locate four black Phillips sheet metal screws in hardware packet.

Slide hood between louver and firebox top and align screw holes.

Insert screws. Tighten screws firmly.

Note: Always have screen in place before operating fireplace. This prevents excessive temperatures on fireplace surfaces.

This heater shall not be installed in a room or space unless the required volume of indoor combustion air is provided. All spaces in homes fall into one of three ventilation classifications:

1. Unusually Tight Construction: You must provide additional fresh air if your home meets criteria involving vapor retarders, weather stripping, and caulking/sealants.

2. Unconfined Space: A space whose volume is not less than 50 cu. ft. per 1,000 BTU/hr of the aggregate input rating of all appliances installed in that space.

Never install the heater where curtains, furniture, clothing, or other flammable objects are less than 42 inches from the front, top, or sides of the heater.

Clearances from the side of the fireplace cabinet to any combustible material and wall should be at least 6 inches on either side.

2. Open gas supply tank valve.

4. Check all joints from equipment shutoff valve to control valve. Apply mixture of liquid soap and water to gas joints. If bubbles form, there may be a leak.

5. Correct all leaks immediately.

It is very important to install the logs exactly as instructed. Do not modify logs. Use only logs supplied with heater. Each log is marked with a number.

1. Insert log #1 onto the rear brackets of the base pan.

2. Insert log #2 onto the middle row of pins on the base pan.

3. Insert log #3 onto the front right pin of the base pan.

4. Insert log #4 onto the front left pin of the base pan.

5. Insert log #5 onto the left pins of log #1 & #2 and the pin of log #3.

After installing logs, add decorative cinders around the grate base, do not place any decorative cinders on logs or burner.


How do I light the PLEASANT HEARTH VFF-PH32NG-H1?

Follow these steps to light the appliance:

1. STOP! Read the safety information provided in the manual.

2. Open the lower access panel located below the fireplace screen.

3. Set receiver switch to “ON” position.

4. Turn control knob clockwise to the “OFF” position.

5. Wait five (5) minutes to clear out any gas. Then smell for gas, including near the floor. If you smell gas, STOP! Follow safety instructions. If you don’t smell gas, go to the next step.

6. Push in slightly and turn control knob counterclockwise to the “PILOT” position. Depress control knob.

7. With control knob depressed, push down on the ignitor button until the pilot lights. The pilot is located behind the fireplace screen, centered near the rear of the burner.

8. Keep control knob depressed for (30) seconds after pilot lights. Release control knob. If the control knob does not pop up when released, stop and immediately call a qualified service technician. If pilot goes out repeat steps 4 through 8.

9. Turn control knob counterclockwise to the “ON” position.

10. To use the included thermostatic remote control, set receiver switch to the “REMOTE” position. Press the ON button to turn on the remote to ignite the main burner.

To activate the “LOCK-OUT” feature, press and hold the ON button and the MODE button at the same time for 5 seconds. The letters CP will appear in the TEMP frame on the LCD screen.

To disengage the “LOCK-OUT”, press and hold the ON button and the MODE button at the same time for 5 seconds and the letters CP will disappear from the LCD screen and the transmitter will return to its normal operating condition.

1. Be sure the slide button on the receiver is in the REMOTE position; the receiver will not LEARN if the slide switch is in the ON or OFF position.

2. Using a small screwdriver or end of a paperclip gently press and release the black LEARN button inside the small hole labeled LEARN on the front face of the receiver.

3. When you release the LEARN button the receiver will emit an audible “beep”.

4. After the receiver emits the beep press ANY button on the transmitter and release. The receiver will emit several beeps indicating that the transmitter’s code has been accepted into the receiver.

7. Clean the pilot assembly also. With the unit off, lightly blow air through the air inlet hole. You may blow through a drinking straw if compressed air is not available.
