If you feel your gas pressure is too low, contact your local natural or propane/LP gas supplier.
How do I assemble the hood on the PLEASANT HEARTH VFF-PH20NG?
Follow these steps to assemble the hood if required:
1. If equipped, lift the fireplace screen up and pull out to remove. Set the screen aside until installation has been completed.
2. Cut two plastic straps to remove the log from the firebox cavity. Set the log aside.
3. If installing an optional blower, do so now following the instructions provided with the blower.
4. Locate four black Phillips sheet metal screws in the hardware packet.
5. Slide the hood between the louver and firebox top and align the screw holes.
6. Insert the screws and tighten them firmly.
Note: Always have the screen in place before operating the fireplace to prevent excessive temperatures on fireplace surfaces.
How do I determine the fresh-air flow requirements for the PLEASANT HEARTH VFF-PH20NG location?
You must determine if you have a confined or unconfined space to ensure adequate ventilation. Use the following method:
1. Determine the volume of the space: Length × Width × Height = cu. ft. (volume of space).
2. Divide the space volume by 50 cu. ft. to determine the maximum BTU/hr the space can support.
3. Add the BTU/hr of all fuel-burning appliances in the space (Vent-free heater, Gas water heater, Gas furnace, Vented gas heater, Gas heater logs, Other gas appliances).
4. Compare the maximum BTU/hr the space can support with the actual amount of BTU/hr used.
If the actual BTU/hr used is less than the maximum BTU/hr the space can support, the space is an unconfined space and needs no additional fresh air ventilation. If the actual BTU/hr used is more, the space is confined, and you must provide additional fresh air via adjoining rooms or venting directly to the outdoors.
What are the minimum clearances for the PLEASANT HEARTH VFF-PH20NG?
Clearances to combustibles must be maintained as follows:
• Side Wall: 6 inches from the side of the fireplace cabinet.

• Furniture/Draperies: Keep curtains, furniture, clothing, or other flammable objects at least 42 inches from the front, top, or sides of the heater.

How do I connect the gas supply to the PLEASANT HEARTH VFF-PH20NG?
A qualified service technician must connect the heater to the gas supply. Follow these guidelines:
1. Use only new black iron or steel pipe. Internally tinned copper tubing may be used in certain areas based on local codes.
2. Use pipe of 1/2 inch diameter or greater.
3. Install an equipment shutoff valve, union, and plugged 1/8-inch NPT tap upstream from the heater.
4. Apply pipe joint sealant lightly to male threads to prevent excess sealant from clogging heater valves. Use sealant resistant to the type of gas used.
5. Install a sediment trap in the supply line within reach for cleaning and where it is not likely to freeze.
6. Connect the gas piping to the external regulator (which must be installed). Ensure the regulator vent points down.
7. Tighten connections using an 8″ Adjustable Wrench and 8″ Pipe Wrench. Hold the gas regulator with a wrench when connecting to avoid damage.
