4. Check the fireplace for any shipping damage.

1. If equipped, lift the fireplace screen up and pull out to remove. Set the screen aside.

2. Cut two plastic straps to remove the log from the firebox cavity. Set the log aside.

3. Locate four black Phillips sheet metal screws in the hardware packet.

4. Slide the hood between the louver and firebox top and align the screw holes.

5. Insert the screws and tighten them firmly.

6. Carefully lift the insert through the center opening in the front of the fireplace and slide it back until the metal trim makes contact with the front of the mantel.

Never install the PLEASANT HEARTH VFF-PH26LP2H2 where curtains, furniture, clothing, or other flammable objects are less than 42 inches from the front, top, or sides of the heater. Minimum clearances for side combustible material and side walls should be 6 inches on either side. Clearances from the top of the fireplace opening to the ceiling should not be less than 36 inches.

For test pressures in excess of 1/2 PSIG (3.5kPa):

1. Disconnect the heater with its appliance main gas valve and equipment shutoff valve from the gas supply piping system.

2. Cap off the open end of the gas pipe.

3. Pressurize the supply piping system.

4. Check all joints with a mixture of liquid soap and water. If bubbles form, correct the leak.

5. Reconnect the heater and equipment shutoff valve.

For test pressures equal to or less than 1/2 PSIG (3.5 kPa):

1. Close the equipment shutoff valve.

2. Pressurize the supply piping system.

3. Check all joints from the gas meter to the equipment shutoff valve with a soap and water mixture.

It is very important to install the logs exactly as instructed for the PLEASANT HEARTH VFF-PH26LP2H2:

1. Insert log #1 onto the rear row of pins on the base pan.

2. Insert log #2 onto the front left pin on the base pan.

3. Insert log #3 onto the front right pin on the base pan.

4. Insert log #4 onto the left pin of log #1 and the pin of log #2.

5. Insert log #5 onto the right pin of log #1 and the pin of log #3.

1. Open the lower access panel located below the fireplace screen.

2. Turn the control knob clockwise to the “OFF” position.

3. Wait five (5) minutes to clear out any gas. If you smell gas, STOP and follow safety instructions.

4. Turn the control knob counterclockwise to the “PILOT” position. Depress the control knob.

5. With the control knob depressed, push down on the ignitor button until the pilot lights.

6. Keep the control knob depressed for thirty (30) seconds after the pilot lights. Release the control knob.

7. If the pilot goes out, repeat steps 3 through 6.

To operate the system in manual “MODE”:

1. Press the ON key; the appliance flame will come on, and the LCD screen will show ON.

2. Press the OFF key; the appliance flame will shut off, and the LCD screen will show OF.

To operate the thermostat function:

1. Press the MODE key until the LCD screen shows the word ROOM.

2. Press and hold the SET key until the desired set temperature is reached. Numbers increase from 45 to 99 degrees Fahrenheit then restart.

3. Release the SET key. The LCD will flash the set temperature and then default to the room temperature.

To activate the Lock-Out feature:

1. Press and hold the ON button and the MODE button at the same time for 5 seconds.

2. The letters CP will appear in the TEMP frame on the LCD screen.

To disengage the Lock-Out feature:

1. Press and hold the ON button and the MODE button at the same time for 5 seconds.

2. The letters CP will disappear from the LCD screen.

We recommend cleaning the unit every three months. Follow these steps:

1. Shut off the unit including the pilot and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes.

2. Inspect the burner, pilot, and primary air inlet holes for dust and dirt.

3. Blow air through the ports/slots and holes in the burner using compressed air (no greater than 30 PSI).

4. Check the orifice holder and remove large particles with a soft cloth or vacuum.

5. Blow air into the primary air holes on the orifice holder.

6. Lightly blow air through the pilot air inlet hole (located about 2 inches from where the pilot flame emits).

If there is no spark:

1. Check if the ignitor electrode is positioned wrong or broken; replace if necessary.

2. Check if the ignitor electrode is connected to the ignitor cable; reconnect if loose.

3. Check if the ignitor cable is pinched or wet; free the cable and keep it dry.

4. Replace the ignitor cable if damaged.

5. Replace the piezo ignitor if it is bad.

1. Ensure the control knob is fully pressed in.

2. Keep the control knob pressed in for 30 seconds after the pilot lights.

3. Ensure the equipment shutoff valve is fully open.

4. Check if the thermocouple connection is loose; hand tighten until snug, then tighten 1/4 turn more.

5. Replace the thermocouple if damaged.

6. Contact customer service if the control valve is damaged.

The ODS (Oxygen Depletion Sensing) system may be activating due to:

1. Not enough fresh air available; open a window and/or door for ventilation.

2. Low line pressure; contact your local gas supplier.

3. The ODS/pilot is partially clogged; clean the ODS/pilot.

This residue is caused when heated vapors from furniture polish, wax, carpet cleaners, etc., turn into powder. Turn the heater off when using furniture polish, wax, carpet cleaner, or similar products.

1. Open the lower access panel located under the fireplace screen.

2. Turn the control knob clockwise to the “OFF” position.

3. Close the lower access panel.
