Before connecting and operating your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2, please be advised of the following tips:

• The device is designed for indoor use only. Install it in a well-ventilated, dust-free environment without liquids.

• Ensure the recorder is properly secured to a rack or shelf. Major shocks or jolts to the recorder as a result of dropping it may cause damage to the sensitive electronics within the recorder.

• For certain models, ensure correct wiring of the terminals for connection to an AC mains supply.

• Keep a minimum 200 mm (7.87 inch) distance around the equipment for sufficient ventilation.

• Use only power supplies listed in the user manual or user instruction.

• The USB port of the equipment is used for connecting to a mouse, keyboard, USB flash drive, or Wi-Fi dongle only.

• Do not touch the sharp edges or corners.

For first-time access, you need to activate the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation. Power on your device and follow these steps:

1. Select a language.

2. Click Next.

3. Input the same password in the Password and Confirm Password fields. It is highly recommended to create a strong password of your own choosing (using a minimum of 8 characters, including at least three of the following categories: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special characters) to increase the security of your product. Reset your password regularly.

4. Activate network camera(s) connected to the device. You can check Use Device Password as Default to use the device password to activate inactive network cameras, or enter a separate password to activate them.

5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. If you forget your password, you can reset it by email. To do this, check Enable and enter an email address.

6. Click Activate.

The admin user can configure and use an unlock pattern to log in to the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 after the device is activated. Follow these steps:

1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. Release the mouse when the pattern is done.

Note:

• The pattern must have at least 4 dots.

• Each dot can be connected only once.

2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

To log in to your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 using your pre-defined unlock pattern:

1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface.

2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

Note:

• If you have forgotten your pattern, click Forgot My Pattern or Switch User to log in via password.

• If you draw the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal password login mode automatically.

If your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 is logged out, you must log in before operating the menu and other functions. Follow these steps:

1. Select your User Name from the dropdown list on the login screen.

2. Input your password.

3. Click Login.

2. Click PTZ Parameter Settings.

3. Set the PTZ camera parameters, such as Baud Rate, Data Bit, Stop Bit, Parity, Flow Ctrl, PTZ Protocol, and Address.

Note:

• All parameters should be the same as those of the PTZ camera.

• For a Coaxitron camera/dome, you can select the PTZ protocol as UTC (Coaxitron). Ensure this protocol is supported by the connected camera/dome.

• AHD and HDCVI cameras support coaxitron control.

• Selecting the Coaxitron protocol will make other parameters (baud rate, data bit, stop bit, parity, flow control) unavailable.

4. Click OK.

You can control your PTZ camera connected to the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 using the PTZ control panel. The panel includes direction buttons, speed control, zoom, focus, and iris adjustments.

Customize Preset:

A preset is a saved location where the PTZ camera will point when an event occurs.

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Select a desired preset number from the preset list.

3. Use the direction, zoom, and focus buttons to move the camera to the required location.

4. Click the “Set” icon to save the preset.

To call a preset, double-click it in the preset list.

Customize Patrol:

A patrol is a path consisting of a series of presets.

1. In the PTZ control panel, click Patrol.

2. Select a desired patrol number and click Set.

3. Click the ‘+’ icon to add key points. A key point corresponds to a preset.

4. Configure the key point parameters: Preset number, Duration (time to stay at the key point), and Speed (speed to move to the next key point).

5. Click Apply.

To start a patrol, select it and click Call.

Customize Pattern:

A pattern records the movement path and dwell time of the camera.

1. In the PTZ control panel, click Pattern.

2. Select a pattern number and click Record.

3. Use the direction, zoom, and focus buttons to move the camera as desired. The path is recorded.

4. Click Stop Recording to save the pattern.

To start a pattern, select it and click Call.

To play back recorded videos on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2:

1. Go to Playback from the main menu.

2. Select a camera from the camera list on the left.

3. Select a date on the calendar for playback. A blue triangle at the corner of a date indicates available videos.

4. The timeline at the bottom will show recorded periods. Blue bars indicate normal video, and red bars indicate event video.

5. Use the playback controls on the timeline to play, pause, reverse, speed up/down, etc.

6. You can position the cursor on the playback window to show a control bar for adding tags, turning on/off audio, digital zoom, and locking/unlocking video clips.

The smart playback function on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 helps you quickly find video segments with motion, line crossing, or intrusion detection events.

Before You Start: Ensure you have configured motion detection, line crossing detection, or intrusion detection rules and areas.

Steps:

1. Go to Playback.

2. Click Smart at the bottom of the screen.

3. Select a camera.

4. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar.

5. On the control bar, use the icons to set detection areas for the smart event you want to find:

• Draw detection area for motion detection.

• Draw detection line for line crossing detection.

• Draw detection area for intrusion detection.

6. The system will analyze the video and highlight the parts of the timeline that contain the specified smart event.

7. You can also click the gear icon to configure the play strategy, such as choosing not to play normal videos without smart information.

You can clip and export videos to a backup device (like a USB flash drive) during playback on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2.

Before You Start: Connect a backup device to your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Start playback of the desired video. Refer to the Normal Playback procedure.

2. Click the scissors icon (Clip) on the playback control bar.

3. A time segment will appear on the timeline. You can drag the start and end markers to define the clip’s duration. Alternatively, click the clock icon to set a precise start and end time.

4. Click the save/export icon.

5. Click Export to save the clip to your connected backup device.

To search for files on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2:

1. Go to Search from the main menu.

2. Set your search conditions, such as camera, date, time, and file type.

3. Click Search.

4. A list of matching files will be displayed. From here you can:

1. Connect a backup device.

Easy Mode provides basic configurations for your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2.

1. Go to Configuration and click Easy Mode.

2. Navigate to System → General.

3. Configure the parameters as desired:

• System Date/Time: Set the current date and time.

• Resolution: Set the output resolution for your monitor.

• Enable Wizard: If checked, the setup wizard will pop up after the device starts up.

• Enable Password: If checked, you will need to enter a password for authentication if the device automatically logs out.

• Enable NTP: Check this to use Network Time Protocol to synchronize the device’s time with an NTP server. You can also set the Interval, NTP Server address, and NTP Port.

The default Administrator (admin) user has permission to add, delete, and edit other users on the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2.

1. Go to Configuration → User.

2. Click Add and confirm your admin password.

3. In the Add User window, enter a User Name.

4. Enter the same password in the Password and Confirm fields. It is recommended to use a strong password.

5. Select a User Level. A guest user only has live view, playback, and log search permissions.

6. Click OK.

Guarding Vision provides a mobile phone application and platform service to access and manage your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 remotely.

1. Go to Configuration → Network → Platform Access.

2. Select Access Type as Guarding Vision.

3. Check Enable. A service terms window will pop up.

• Scan the QR code to read the service terms and privacy statement.

• Check I have read and agree to Service Terms and Privacy Statement.

• Click OK.

4. Optional: Check Stream Encryption. This requires you to enter a verification code for remote access and live view.

5. Optional: Check Custom and edit the Server Address if needed.

6. Enter a code in Verification Code. You can click Refresh to randomly generate a code.

7. Click Apply.

After setup, you can access your video recorder via the Guarding Vision app by scanning the QR codes provided on the screen.

You can set up an email account on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 to receive event notifications.

Before You Start:

• Ensure your video recorder is on a local area network with an SMTP mail server.

• Configure your network parameters correctly.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Network → Email.

2. Set the email parameters:

• Server Authentication: (Optional) Check to enable server authentication and enter the User Name and Password for the sender’s email account.

• SMTP Server: Enter the address of your SMTP server (e.g., mail.domainname.com).

• SMTP Port: Enter the SMTP port number (e.g., 25).

• SSL/TLS: (Optional) Check to enable SSL/TLS if required by the SMTP server.

• Attached Picture: Check if you want event images attached to the email.

• Sender: The sender’s name.

• Sender’s Address: The sender’s email address.

• Select Receiver: Select a receiver (up to 3 are available).

• Receiver: The receiver’s name.

• Receiver’s Address: The receiver’s email address.

3. Click Apply.

You can add network cameras to your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 either automatically or manually.

Activate Network Camera (if needed):

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera. The Security column shows if a camera is active.

2. Click Inactive for a desired camera.

3. Set a password for the camera. You can use the DVR’s password by checking Use Channel Default Password or create a custom one.

4. Click OK.

Add Network Camera by Device Password:

This method works for online cameras that have the same password as your DVR.

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. The online cameras on the same network segment will be displayed.

3. Select a camera and click the ‘+’ icon to add it.

Add Network Camera Manually:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. Click Add.

3. Set the network camera parameters, including IP address, protocol, management port, username, and password.

4. Optional: Click Add More to add another network camera.

5. Click OK.

Motion detection enables your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 to detect moving objects and trigger alarms or recording.

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Motion Detection.

2. Select a camera.

3. Check Enable.

4. Click the Area Settings tab to set the motion detection area:

• Click Full Screen to set the entire view as the detection area.

• Drag on the preview window to draw custom motion detection areas.

• Click Clear to remove the current detection areas.

5. Adjust Sensitivity. A higher value makes the alarm more sensitive to movement.

6. Go to the Arming Schedule tab to set the time periods when motion detection should be active.

7. Go to the Linkage Action tab to configure actions to be taken when motion is detected (e.g., trigger recording, send email, audible warning).

8. Click Apply.

Your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 can be configured to start and stop recording automatically based on a schedule.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Schedule.

2. Select a camera from the Camera No. dropdown list.

3. Check Enable.

4. Configure the recording schedule using one of these methods:

• Method 1 (Draw on Table): Click a schedule type (e.g., Continuous, Event) and then drag the mouse on the timeline for each day of the week to set the desired recording periods.

• Method 2 (Edit Schedule):

a. Click Edit.

b. Select a day to configure in Weekday.

c. To set an all-day recording schedule, check All Day and select the schedule type.

d. To set specific time periods, uncheck All Day, and set the Start/End Time and schedule type for each period (up to 8 periods per day).

e. You can use the Copy button to apply the schedule to other days.

f. Click OK.

5. Click Apply to save the schedule.

A newly installed HDD on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 must be initialized before it can be used to save videos and information.

Before You Start: Ensure at least one HDD is physically installed in your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage.

2. A list of installed HDDs will be displayed.

3. Select the HDD you want to initialize.

4. Click the Init button.

5. A confirmation prompt will appear. Click OK to proceed. The initialization process will format the drive, erasing all existing data.

The HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 offers two storage modes to manage how multiple HDDs record video: Group mode and Quota mode.

Group Mode:

This mode allows you to manage multiple HDDs in groups. You can specify which camera channels record onto a particular HDD group.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage Mode.

2. Select Mode as Group.

3. Select a group number.

4. Check the cameras that you want to record to this group.

5. After rebooting, go to Configuration → Record → Storage, click the settings icon for the desired HDD, and assign it to the group number you configured.

Quota Mode:

This mode allows you to configure an allocated storage quota for each camera.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage Mode.

2. Select Mode as Quota.

3. Select a camera to set the quota for.

4. Enter the storage capacity in the fields for Max. Record Capacity (GB) and Max. Picture Capacity (GB).

Note: If the quota capacity is set to 0, all cameras will use the total capacity of the HDD for videos and pictures.

5. Click Apply and reboot the device to activate the new settings.

You can restore your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 to its factory settings through the Maintenance menu.

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. Select the restoring type:

• Simple Restore: Restores all parameters to factory defaults, except for network settings (IP address, subnet mask, etc.) and user account parameters.

• Factory Defaults: Restores all parameters to the factory default settings, including network and user settings.

• Restore to Inactive: Restores the device to an inactive status, leaving all settings unchanged except for restoring user accounts.

3. Click Yes. The device will reboot automatically with the restored settings.

You can upgrade the firmware on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 locally from a USB device or online.

Warning: Do not shut down or turn off the power during the upgrade process.

Local Upgrade:

1. Store the upgrade firmware file on a backup device (e.g., USB flash drive) and connect it to your DVR.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the settings icon near Firmware.

4. Select your backup device in Device Name.

5. Select the upgrade firmware file from the list.

6. Click Upgrade. Your device will upgrade and reboot automatically.

Online Upgrade:

1. Ensure Guarding Vision is enabled and configured.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the ‘+’ icon.

4. Go to Online Upgrade.

5. The device will check for the latest firmware. You can choose Auto Download to automatically check and download, or Test Upgrade to manually check.

6. If a new firmware version is available, you can proceed with the upgrade. The device will reboot automatically.

You can access your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F2 using a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome.

1. Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network as your DVR.

2. In the address bar, type the IP address of the video recorder and press Enter. (Note: If you have changed the default HTTP port, you must enter it as well, e.g., http://192.168.1.64:81).

3. The first time you connect, you may be prompted to install a plug-in. Follow the installation prompts. You may need to close the web browser to complete the installation.

4. On the login page, enter your user name and password.
