For first-time access, you need to activate the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation.

Before You Start:

Power on your device.

Steps:

1. Select a language.

2. Click Next.

3. Input the same password in Password and Confirm Password. We highly recommend you create a strong password of your own choosing (Using a minimum of 8 characters, including at least three of the following categories: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special characters) in order to increase the security of your product.

4. Activate network camera(s) connected to the device. Check Use Device Password as Default to use the device password to activate the inactive network camera(s), or enter a different password to activate them.

5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. When you forget your password, you can reset it by email. To do this, check Enable and enter an email address.

6. Click Activate.

The admin user can use an unlock pattern to log in to the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N. You can configure the unlock pattern after the device is activated.

Steps:

1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. Release the mouse when the pattern is done.

– The pattern must have at least 4 dots.

– Each dot can be connected only once.

2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

Steps:

1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface.

2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

If you have forgotten your pattern, you can click Forgot My Pattern or Switch User to log in via password. If you draw the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal password login mode automatically.

If your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N has logged out, you must log in before operating the menu and other functions.

Steps:

1. Select your User Name from the dropdown list.

2. Input your password.

3. Click Login.

If you forget the admin password, you can click Forgot Password to reset it. If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the user account will be locked for 60 seconds.

The Live View interface on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N offers several functions:

• Click the auto-switch icon to start/stop automatically switching between camera screens.

• Click the record icon to start/stop all-day recording for all cameras.

• Drag and drop camera screens to change their live view order.

In the live view interface, icons at the upper-right corner of each camera screen show the camera’s status.

You must configure PTZ parameters before controlling a PTZ camera with your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N.

Steps:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ control icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click PTZ Parameter Settings.

3. Set the PTZ camera parameters, including Baud Rate, Data Bit, Stop Bit, Parity, Flow Ctrl, PTZ Protocol, and Address. All parameters should be the same as the PTZ camera’s settings.

– For a Coaxitron camera/dome, you can select the PTZ protocol to UTC (Coaxitron).

– The AHD and HDCVI cameras support coaxitron control.

– Selecting the Coaxitron protocol will make other parameters (baud rate, data bit, etc.) unavailable.

4. Click OK.

The PTZ Control Panel on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N allows for camera movement and adjustments.

You can set a preset location for your PTZ camera to point to when an event occurs on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N.

Steps:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ control icon on the shortcut menu.

Steps to Customize a Patrol:

2. Click the Patrol tab.

3. Select a desired patrol number.

6. Configure key point parameters: select a Preset, set the Duration (time to stay at the key point), and the Speed (speed to move to the next key point).

7. Click Apply.

To call a patrol:

Select the desired patrol from the dropdown list and click Call. The PTZ camera will move according to the predefined patrol path.

A pattern records the exact movement path of the PTZ camera. You can record and call patterns on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N.

Steps to Record a Pattern:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ control icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click the Pattern tab.

3. Select a pattern number.

4. Click Record.

5. Use the direction buttons, zoom, and focus controls to move the camera as desired. The recorder will capture all movements.

6. Click Stop Recording. The PTZ camera’s moving path is now recorded as a pattern.

To call a pattern:

Select the desired pattern and click Call. The PTZ camera will move according to the predefined pattern.

The playback interface of your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N provides various controls for reviewing recorded video.

On the timeline, a blue bar indicates normal video, and a red bar indicates event video. You can scroll the mouse wheel up/down to zoom in/out on the timeline.

Follow these steps to play back normal recorded videos on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N.

Steps:

1. Go to Playback.

2. Select a camera from the camera list on the left.

3. Select a date on the calendar for playback. A blue triangle at the corner of a date indicates there are available videos for that day.

4. Optional: Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar for additional functions.

Smart playback on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N allows you to quickly find video segments containing motion, line crossing, or intrusion detection events.

Before You Start:

Ensure you have configured motion detection, line crossing detection, or intrusion detection rules and areas.

Steps:

1. Go to Playback.

2. Click Smart.

3. Select a camera.

4. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar. Use the icons to draw detection areas for the smart event you want to search for (e.g., draw a line for line crossing, a box for motion).

5. Click the “Play Strategy” icon to configure playback options:

– Do not Play Normal Videos: If enabled, videos without smart information will be skipped.

– Normal Video: Set the playback speed for normal video (when the above option is unchecked).

– Play Speed of Smart/Custom Video: Set the playback speed for videos with smart information.

The sub-periods playback feature on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N allows you to play videos from multiple sub-periods at the same time.

Steps:

1. Go to Playback.

2. Click Sub-periods.

3. Select a camera.

4. Set the start and end time for the overall period you want to review.

5. Optional: Select a window division mode like 4-Period, 9-Period, or 16-Period. The videos will be divided into that many equal segments.

6. Click the search icon. The videos will be divided into segments and played simultaneously in the selected number of screens.

You can clip and export video segments to a backup device (USB flash drive, USB HDD, etc.) from your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N.

Before You Start:

Connect a backup device to your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Start playback of the desired video.

2. Click the clip icon (scissors) on the main playback control bar.

3. Clip the video in one of two ways:

– Click the start/end time icon, set the start and end times in the pop-up window, and click OK.

– Drag the markers on the timeline to select the desired time segment.

4. Click the clip icon again to open the export window.

5. Click Export to export the clip to your backup device.

Steps:

1. Go to Search.

2. Set your search conditions (e.g., camera, date, time, file type).

3. Click Search. A list of files will be displayed.

5. Click OK.

You can also click the edit icon next to a user to modify their details.

Setting a password reset email allows you to recover your password if you forget it. When you forget your login pattern or password, the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N will send an email with a verification code to your email for password resetting.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → User.

2. Click Password Resetting Email.

3. Enter the admin password for authorization.

4. Enter an email address.

5. Click OK.

You can set up your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N to send email notifications when an event occurs.

Before You Start:

• Ensure your recorder is on a local area network with an SMTP mail server.

• Configure your network parameters correctly.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Network → Email.

2. Set the email parameters:

– Server Authentication (Optional): Check to enable, then enter the User Name and Password for the email sender account.

– SMTP Server: Enter the address of your SMTP server (e.g., smtp.gmail.com).

– SMTP Port: Enter the port number for the SMTP server (e.g., 465 or 587).

– SSL/TLS (Optional): Check to enable SSL/TLS if required by the SMTP server.

– Attached Picture: Check to attach pictures to the email notification.

– Sender: Enter the sender’s name.

– Sender’s Address: Enter the sender’s email address.

– Select Receiver: Select a receiver (1, 2, or 3) to configure.

– Receiver: Enter the receiver’s name.

– Receiver’s Address: Enter the receiver’s email address.

3. Click Apply.

For certain models of the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N, you can configure the analog and IP signal input types.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Analog.

2. For each channel, select the signal input type as HD/CVBS or IP.

– HD/CVBS: Allows four types of analog signal inputs (Turbo HD, AHD, HDCVI, and CVBS) to be connected randomly to the channel.

– IP: Allows a network camera to be connected for the channel.

3. Click Apply. You can view the maximum number of accessible network cameras in Max. IP Camera Number.

You can add network cameras to your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N either automatically if they are on the same network or manually.

Before You Start:

• Ensure the network camera is on the same network segment as your video recorder.

• Ensure the network connection is valid and correct.

• Ensure the network camera has been activated (has a password set).

Add Network Camera by Device Password (Auto-search):

This method works for online cameras that have the same password as your video recorder.

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. Online cameras on the same network segment will be displayed in the camera list.

3. Click the ‘+’ icon next to the camera you wish to add.

Add Network Camera Manually:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. Click the Add button.

3. Set the network camera parameters, including IP address, protocol, management port, etc. You can check Use IPC Active Password to use the device’s password to add the network camera(s).

4. Optional: Click Add More to add another network camera.

5. Click OK.

Motion detection enables the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N to detect moving objects in the monitored area and trigger alarms.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Motion Detection.

2. Select a camera.

3. Check Enable.

4. Set the motion detection area:

– Full screen: Click Full Screen to set the entire camera view as the detection area.

– Customized area: Drag the mouse on the preview window to draw one or more detection areas.

– Clear: Click Clear to remove the current motion detection areas.

5. Adjust Sensitivity. A higher value results in more readily triggered motion detection.

6. Set the arming schedule to define when motion detection is active.

7. Set the linkage actions to define what happens when motion is detected (e.g., record, send email).

8. Click Apply.

The arming schedule determines when your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N will actively monitor for events like motion detection or line crossing.

Steps:

1. In the event configuration screen (e.g., Motion Detection), select the Arming Schedule tab.

2. Choose one day of a week and set the time segment. You can set up to eight time periods for each day. Time periods cannot be repeated or overlapped.

3. Click Apply to save the schedule.

A newly installed hard disk drive (HDD) must be initialized before it can be used to save videos and information on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N.

Before You Start:

Install at least one HDD into your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage.

2. Select an HDD from the list.

3. Click Init. The recorder will format the hard drive. All data on the drive will be erased.

You can also use the Repair Database function for an HDD that has an error in its database, but this should be done with the help of professional technical support.

Your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N will automatically start and stop recording according to the schedule you configure.

Configure Continuous Recording:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Parameter and set the continuous main stream/sub-stream recording parameters for the camera.

2. Go to Configuration → Record → Schedule.

3. Select the recording type as Continuous and configure the schedule for the desired days and times.

Configure Event Recording:

1. Go to the relevant event configuration page (e.g., Configuration → Event → Smart Event) and configure the event detection and select the channels to trigger recording.

2. Go to Configuration → Record → Parameter to set the recording parameters.

3. Go to Configuration → Record → Schedule.

4. Select the recording type as Event and configure the schedule for when you want event-based recording to be active.

You can set a detailed recording schedule with different recording types throughout the day on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Schedule.

2. Select a camera from the Camera No. dropdown list.

3. Check Enable.

4. Configure the schedule using one of two methods:

– Method 1 (Drawing on the Grid): Click to select a schedule type (e.g., Continuous or Event). Then, on the grid for the desired day, drag the mouse across the time period to draw a colored bar representing that recording type.

– Method 2 (Using Edit Menu): Click Edit. In the pop-up window, select a day in Weekday. To set an all-day schedule, check All Day and select a schedule type. To set specific times, uncheck All Day, and set the Start/End Time and Type for up to 8 different periods. Click OK.

5. Click Apply to save the schedule.

You can configure advanced network settings to enhance the security of your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Network → Advanced Settings.

2. Configure the desired parameters:

– RTSP Authentication Type: To secure the live view stream, you can set an authentication type. It is recommended to select digest for security reasons.

– HTTP: The admin user can disable the HTTP service. If disabled, all related services like ISAPI, Onvif, and Gennetc will terminate.

Before You Start:

Connect a backup device like a USB flash drive to your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. Click the import/export icon.

3. Click Export to export the current IP camera configuration files to the connected backup device.

4. To import a configuration file, select the file from the selected backup device and click Import. After the import process is completed, you must reboot the video recorder for the changes to take effect.

You can configure privacy mask areas that cannot be viewed or recorded on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Privacy Mask.

2. Select the desired Camera.

3. Check Enable.

4. Drag your mouse on the preview window to draw an area. The frames of the areas will be marked with different colors. You can configure up to 4 privacy mask areas, and the size of each area can be adjusted.

5. Click Apply.

The intrusion detection function on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N detects people, vehicles, or objects that enter and loiter in a pre-defined virtual region.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Event → Smart Event → Intrusion.

2. Select a Camera to configure.

3. Check Enable Intrusion Detection.

4. Check Save VCA Picture to save captured pictures of the detection.

5. Set the detection rules and areas:

– Select a Virtual Plane (up to 4 arming areas are selectable).

– Adjust Threshold and Sensitivity.

– Sensitivity: The size of the object that can trigger the alarm. Higher value means smaller objects can trigger it. Range is [1-100].

– Threshold: The time an object must loiter in the region to trigger an alarm. Range is [1s-10s].

– Click Draw Area and draw a quadrilateral in the preview window to define the detection region.

6. Set the arming schedule.

7. Set the linkage actions.

8. Click Apply.

Your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N can trigger PTZ actions (e.g., call a preset, patrol, or pattern) when an alarm event or VCA detection event occurs.

Steps:

1. Go to the Linkage Action interface of the desired alarm input or VCA detection.

2. Select PTZ Linkage.

3. Select the camera that will perform the PTZ action.

4. Select the action type (Preset No., Patrol No., or Pattern No.) and the corresponding number to call when the alarm event occurs. You can set one PTZ type only for the linkage action each time.

If your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N has multiple HDDs, you can manage them in groups. Video from specified channels can then be recorded onto a particular HDD group.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage Mode.

2. Select Mode as Group.

3. Select the group No. you want to configure.

4. Check the boxes for the cameras you want to record on this HDD group.

5. Click Apply.

6. Reboot the video recorder to activate the new storage mode settings.

7. After reboot, go to Configuration → Record → Storage.

8. Click the edit icon of the desired HDD to set its group.

9. Select the Group number for the current HDD.

10. Click OK.

You can configure an allocated storage quota for each camera on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage Mode.

2. Select Mode as Quota.

3. Select a camera to set a quota for in the Camera dropdown list.

4. Enter the storage capacity in the text fields of Max. Record Capacity (GB) and Max. Picture Capacity (GB).

Note: When the quota capacity is set to 0, all cameras will use the total capacity of the HDD for videos and pictures.

5. Click Apply.

6. Reboot the video recorder to activate the new settings.

The cloud storage feature on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N facilitates uploading and downloading videos.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Cloud Storage.

2. Check Enable Cloud.

3. Select the Cloud Type (e.g., Google Drive).

4. Scan the QR code with a scanner app on your phone to log into the selected cloud service and get an authorization code.

5. Enter the code into the Authentication Code field.

6. Click Apply. After about 20 seconds, the cloud storage status should change to Online.

7. Configure the event recording schedule for the cameras you want to back up.

8. To upload event videos:

– Select the Camera that you have set a recording schedule for.

– Select the Upload Type (only Record is allowed for now).

– Check Enable Event Upload.

– Click Apply.

Note: Only sub-stream videos can be uploaded to the cloud storage.

You can restore the settings of your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N to the factory defaults.

Steps:

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. Select the restoring type:

– Simple Restore: Restores all parameters to factory default settings, EXCEPT for network parameters (IP address, subnet mask, etc.) and user account parameters.

– Factory Defaults: Restores ALL parameters to the factory default settings.

– Restore to Inactive: Restores the device to the inactive status and restores user accounts, but leaves all other settings unchanged.

3. Click Yes. The device will reboot automatically.

Warning: Do not shut down or turn off the power during the upgrade process.

Before You Start:

Store the upgrade firmware file on a backup device (like a USB flash drive) and connect it to your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N.

Steps:

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. Click the folder icon next to Firmware.

3. Select your backup device in Device Name.

4. Select the upgrade firmware file from the list.

5. Click Upgrade. Your device will install the firmware and reboot automatically.

You can upgrade your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N with the latest online firmware.

Before You Start:

Enable Guarding Vision and configure its parameters.

Steps:

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. Click the ‘+’ icon.

3. Go to Online Upgrade.

4. Download the latest firmware:

– Auto Download: The device will automatically check for and download the latest firmware.

– Test Upgrade: Click Test Upgrade to manually check for and download the latest firmware.

5. Upgrade your device if a new firmware version is available. The device will reboot automatically.

You can select which events will trigger a hint in the alarm center of your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N.

To Set an Event Hint:

1. Click the bell icon in the upper-right corner of the local menu to enter the alarm center.

2. Select a tab (Exception, Basic Event, or Smart Event) to configure.

3. Click the settings icon and select the specific events you want to receive hints for.

4. Click OK.

When one of the selected events occurs, an alarm information icon will be displayed in the upper-right corner of the local menu.

To View Alarms in the Alarm Center:

1. Click the bell icon in the upper-right corner of the local menu.

2. Select the Exception, Basic Event, or Smart Event tab to view details of the triggered alarms.

You can access your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1-N via a web browser. Supported browsers include Internet Explorer 6.0 to 11.0, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome.

Steps:

1. Open a web browser, type the IP address of the video recorder into the address bar, and press Enter.

Note: If you have changed the HTTP port from the default (80), you must include it in the address. For example: http://192.168.1.64:81.

2. Enter your user name and password in the login interface.

3. Click Login.

4. The first time you log in, you may need to follow installation prompts to install a plug-in. You may have to close the web browser to complete the plug-in installation.
