For first-time access, you need to activate the HIKVISION DS-7116HGHI-K1 by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation. You can also activate the video recorder via web browser, SADP, or client software.

Before You Start:

Power on your device.

Steps:

1. Select a language.

2. Click Next.

3. Input the same password in the Password and Confirm Password fields.

4. Activate network camera(s) connected to the device:

– Check Use Device Password as Default to use the device password to activate the inactive network camera(s).

– Or, enter a password to activate network camera(s).

5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. When you forget your password, you can reset it by email.

1) Check Enable.

2) Enter an email address.

6. Click Activate.

The admin user can use an unlock pattern to log in. You can configure the unlock pattern after the HIKVISION DS-7116HGHI-K1 is activated.

Steps:

1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. Release the mouse when the pattern is done.

– The pattern must have at least 4 dots.

– Each dot can be connected only once.

2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

Log in via Unlock Pattern:

1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface.

2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

– If you have forgotten your pattern, click Forgot My Pattern or Switch User to log in via password.

– If you draw the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal password login mode automatically.

Log in via Password:

If your HIKVISION DS-7116HGHI-K1 has logged out, you must log in before operating the menu.

1. Select a User Name.

2. Input the password.

3. Click Login.

– If you forget the admin password, you can click Forgot Password to reset it.

– If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the user account will be locked for 60 seconds.

In the live view interface:

– Double-click a camera to view it in single-screen mode. Double-click again to exit.

– Drag a camera from its screen to a desired screen to change the live view layout.

– Scroll up/down to turn to the previous/next screen.

– Position the cursor on a camera to show the shortcut menu.

Shortcut Menu Description:

Live View Icons:

Icons in the upper-right corner of each camera screen show the camera’s status.

You must configure PTZ parameters before controlling a PTZ camera.

Steps:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click PTZ Parameter Settings.

3. Set the PTZ camera parameters, such as Baud Rate, Data Bit, Stop Bit, Parity, Flow Ctrl, PTZ Protocol, and Address.

– All parameters should be the same as the PTZ camera’s settings.

– For a Coaxitron camera/dome, you can select the PTZ protocol to UTC (Coaxitron).

– AHD and HDCVI cameras support coaxitron control.

– Selecting the Coaxitron protocol will make other parameters (baud rate, data bit, etc.) unavailable.

4. Click OK.

The PTZ Control Panel allows you to control a connected PTZ camera.

Customize Preset:

A preset is a saved camera position.

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Select a desired preset number from the preset list.

3. Use the direction buttons, zoom, and focus to move the camera to the required location.

4. Click the save icon to set the preset.

To use it, double-click a preset in the preset list to call it.

Customize Patrol:

A patrol is a path consisting of a series of presets.

1. In the PTZ menu, click Patrol.

2. Select a desired patrol number and click Set.

3. Click + to add a key point.

4. Configure the key point parameters: Preset number, Duration (time to stay at the preset), and Speed (speed of movement to the next point).

5. Click Apply.

To use it, select a patrol and click Call.

Customize Pattern:

A pattern records a continuous movement path.

1. In the PTZ menu, click Pattern.

2. Select a pattern number and click Record.

3. Use the direction buttons, zoom, and focus to move the camera along the desired path.

4. Click Stop Recording. The path is now recorded as a pattern.

To use it, select a pattern and click Call.

Normal Playback:

1. Go to Playback.

2. Select a camera from the camera list.

3. Select a date on the calendar for playback. A blue triangle on a date indicates available video.

4. Use the timeline to find and play video. The blue bar indicates normal video, and the red bar indicates event video.

Smart Playback:

This function helps find video containing motion, line crossing, or intrusion events.

1. Before you start, ensure you have configured motion detection, line crossing, or intrusion detection rules.

2. Go to Playback and click Smart.

3. Select a camera. The system will analyze and display video containing smart events.

4. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar. You can use this to draw detection areas for motion, line crossing, or intrusion to filter the playback further.

Sub-Periods Playback:

This allows you to play videos from multiple sub-periods simultaneously.

1. Go to Playback and click Sub-periods.

2. Select a camera.

3. Set a start and end time.

4. Optional: Select a window division mode (e.g., 4-Period). The videos from the selected time range will be divided into equal segments and played simultaneously in the corresponding screens.

5. Click the play icon.

You can clip videos during playback and export them to a backup device like a USB flash drive.

Before You Start:

Connect a backup device to your HIKVISION DS-7116HGHI-K1.

Steps:

1. Start playback of the desired video.

2. Click the clip icon on the playback interface.

3. Set the start and end time for the clip.

– Click the clip start icon to set the start time.

– Click the clip end icon to set the end time.

– Alternatively, drag the markers on the timeline to define the segment.

4. Click the clip icon again to confirm the segment.

5. Click Export to export the clip to your backup device.

Search for a File:

1. Go to Search.

2. Set your search conditions (e.g., camera, date, time).

3. Click Search.

4. From the results list:

– Click the play icon to play the video.

– Click the lock icon to lock the file, which prevents it from being overwritten.

– Select one or more files and click Export to save them to a backup device.

Perform a Quick Backup:

Before You Start:

Connect a backup device to your HIKVISION DS-7116HGHI-K1.

Steps:

1. Go to Search.

2. Set the search conditions.

3. Click Quick Export.

4. Select the backup device and path.

5. Click OK to start exporting.

The default administrator account is ‘admin’. An administrator can add, delete, and edit other users. A guest user only has live view, playback, and log search permissions.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → User.

2. Click Add and confirm your admin password.

3. Enter a User Name.

4. Enter the same password in the Password and Confirm fields.

5. Select a User Level (e.g., Guest).

6. Click OK.

You can also click the edit icon next to a user to modify their details.

Before You Start:

– Ensure your HIKVISION DS-7116HGHI-K1 is in a local area network with an SMTP mail server.

– Configure your general network parameters.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Network → Email.

2. Set the email parameters:

– Server Authentication (Optional): Check to enable server authentication. Enter the User Name and Password for the email sender account.

– SSL/TLS (Optional): Check to enable SSL/TLS if required by the SMTP server.

– SMTP Server: Enter the address of your SMTP server (e.g., mail.domainname.com).

– SMTP Port: Enter the port for the SMTP server (e.g., 25).

– Sender: Enter the sender’s name.

– Sender’s Address: Enter the sender’s email address.

– Select Receiver: Select a receiver (up to 3 are available).

– Receiver: Enter the receiver’s name.

– Receiver’s Address: Enter the receiver’s email address.

3. Click Apply.

Before You Start:

– Ensure the network camera is on the same network segment as your HIKVISION DS-7116HGHI-K1.

– Ensure the network connection is valid and correct.

– Only activated network cameras can be added. If a camera is inactive, you must activate it first by setting a password.

Add Network Camera Automatically (by Device Password):

This method works for online cameras that have the same password as your video recorder.

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. The online cameras on the same network segment will be displayed in the camera list.

3. Click the + icon next to the camera you want to add.

Add Network Camera Manually:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. Click +.

3. Set the network camera parameters, including IP address, protocol, management port, username, and password.

4. Optional: Click Add More to add another network camera.

5. Click OK.

Motion detection enables the HIKVISION DS-7116HGHI-K1 to detect moving objects and trigger alarms.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Motion Detection.

2. Select a camera.

3. Check Enable.

4. Set the motion detection area:

– Click Full Screen to set the entire view as the detection area.

– Drag on the preview window to draw custom motion detection areas.

– Click Clear to remove the current motion detection areas.

5. Adjust Sensitivity. A higher value makes the alarm more sensitive to movement.

6. Go to the Arming Schedule tab to set when motion detection is active.

7. Go to the Linkage Action tab to set what happens when motion is detected (e.g., trigger recording, send email).

8. Click Apply.

The video recorder will automatically start and stop recording according to the configured schedule.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Schedule.

2. Select a camera from the Camera No. dropdown list.

3. Check Enable.

4. Configure the recording schedule:

– Method 1 (Drawing on the timeline):

a. Click to select a schedule type (e.g., Continuous or Event).

b. On the timeline grid, drag the mouse over the desired time period for a specific day to draw a colored bar representing that schedule type.

– Method 2 (Using the Edit menu):

a. Click Edit.

b. Select a day to configure in Weekday.

c. To set an all-day schedule, check All Day and select a schedule Type.

d. To set specific time periods, uncheck All Day, and set the Start/End Time and Type for each period. You can configure up to 8 periods per day.

e. Click OK.

5. Click Apply.

Initialize a new HDD:

A newly installed hard disk drive (HDD) must be initialized before it can be used.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage.

2. Select the new HDD from the list.

3. Click Init. The HDD will be formatted.

Add a Network Disk (NAS or IP SAN):

You can add an allocated NAS or IP SAN disk and use it as a network HDD.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage.

2. Click Add.

3. Select NetHDD.

4. Set the Type as NAS or IPSAN.

5. Enter the NetHDD IP address.

6. Click Search to find available disks, or manually enter the directory in NetHDD Directory.

7. Select the NAS disk from the list.

8. Click OK.

Configure HDD Groups:

This allows you to assign specific cameras to record to a particular HDD or group of HDDs.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage Mode.

2. Select Mode as Group.

3. Select the Group No. you want to configure.

4. Check the cameras you want to record to this group.

5. Click Apply.

6. Reboot the video recorder to activate the settings.

7. After reboot, go to Configuration → Record → Storage, click the settings icon of a desired HDD, and assign it to the correct group number.

Configure HDD Quota:

This allows you to allocate a specific amount of storage space for each camera.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage Mode.

2. Select Mode as Quota.

3. Select a camera to set a quota for.

4. Enter the storage capacity in the fields for Max. Record Capacity (GB) and Max. Picture Capacity (GB).

5. Click Apply.

6. Reboot the video recorder to activate the new settings.

Cloud storage allows you to upload and download videos from a cloud service.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Cloud Storage.

2. Check Enable Cloud.

3. Select the Cloud Type (e.g., Google Drive).

4. Scan the QR code with a QR code scanner app to log into the selected cloud service and get an authorization code.

5. Enter the received code into the Authentication Code field.

6. Click Apply. After about 20 seconds, the cloud storage status should change to Online.

7. Configure an event recording schedule for the cameras you wish to upload.

8. To upload event videos:

1) Select the Camera that has a recording schedule set.

2) Select the Upload Type (only Record is allowed for now).

3) Check Enable Event Upload.

4) Click Apply.

Note: Only sub-stream videos can be uploaded to cloud storage.

Restore Default Settings:

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. Select a restoring type:

– Simple Restore: Restores all parameters except network and user accounts.

– Factory Defaults: Restores all parameters to factory default settings.

– Restore to Inactive: Restores the device to an inactive state, leaving settings unchanged except for user accounts.

3. Click Yes. The device will reboot.

Search Log:

1. Go to Maintenance → More.

2. Set the search conditions (e.g., date, time, log type).

3. Click Search.

Local Upgrade (from USB):

1. Store the upgrade firmware on a backup device (like a USB drive) and connect it to your device.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the folder icon near Firmware.

4. Select the backup device and the upgrade firmware file.

5. Click Upgrade. Your device will reboot automatically.

Online Upgrade:

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. Click the cloud icon.

3. Go to Online Upgrade.

4. The device will automatically check for and allow you to download the latest firmware. Click Test Upgrade to manually check.

5. Upgrade your device if a new firmware version is available.

Set Event Hints:

You can select which events will show a pop-up hint in the alarm center.

1. Click the bell icon in the upper-right corner of the local menu to enter the alarm center.

2. Select a tab: Exception, Basic Event, or Smart Event.

3. Click the settings icon and select the specific events you want to be hinted about.

4. Click OK.

View Alarms:

1. Click the bell icon in the upper-right corner of the local menu.

2. Select the Exception, Basic Event, or Smart Event tab to view the details of triggered alarms.

You can access the HIKVISION DS-7116HGHI-K1 using web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome.

Steps:

1. Open a web browser, type the IP address of the video recorder into the address bar, and press Enter.

– If you have changed the HTTP port, you must include it in the address. For example: `http://192.168.1.64:81`.

2. On the login page, enter your user name and password.

3. Click Login.

4. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the required plug-in. You may need to close the web browser to complete the installation.

After logging in, you can access interfaces for Live View, Playback, and Configuration.
