For first-time access, you need to activate the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2 by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation.

Before you start, ensure your device is powered on.

Steps:

1. Select a language.

2. Click Next.

3. Input the same password in the Password and Confirm Password fields. It is highly recommended to create a strong password of your own choosing (using a minimum of 8 characters, including at least three of the following categories: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special characters) to increase the security of your product.

4. Activate network camera(s) connected to the device. You can either check ‘Use Device Password as Default’ to use the DVR’s password to activate them, or enter a separate password to activate the network cameras.

5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. If you forget your password, you can reset it by email. To do this, check ‘Enable’ and enter an email address.

6. Click Activate.

The admin user can use an unlock pattern to log in. You can configure the unlock pattern after the device is activated.

Steps:

1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. Release the mouse when the pattern is done. The pattern must have at least 4 dots, and each dot can be connected only once.

2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

Steps:

1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface.

2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

Note: If you have forgotten your pattern, click ‘Forgot My Pattern’ or ‘Switch User’ to log in via password. If you draw the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal password login mode automatically.

If your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2 has logged out, you must log in before operating the menu and other functions.

Steps:

1. Select your User Name from the dropdown list.

2. Input your password.

3. Click Login.

Note: If you forget the admin password, you can click ‘Forgot Password’ to reset it. If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the current user account will be locked for 60 seconds.

The Live View interface allows you to monitor your cameras in real-time.

Basic Operations:

• Click the auto-switch icon to start/stop automatically switching between cameras.

• Click the record icon to start/stop all-day recording for all cameras.

• Right-click a camera or click the full-screen icon to enter full-screen mode.

• Double-click a camera to view it in single-screen mode. Double-click again to exit.

• Change a camera’s position by dragging its live view screen to the desired location.

• Scroll up/down with your mouse to switch to the previous/next screen of cameras.

• Position the cursor over a camera to show its shortcut menu.

In the live view interface, icons at the upper-right corner of each camera screen show the camera recording and alarm status.

You must configure PTZ parameters before controlling a PTZ camera.

Steps:

1. In live view, preview a PTZ camera and click the PTZ control icon on its shortcut menu.

2. Click ‘PTZ Parameter Settings’.

3. Set the PTZ camera parameters, such as Baud Rate, Data Bit, Stop Bit, Parity, Flow Ctrl, PTZ Protocol, and Address. All parameters should be the same as the PTZ camera’s settings.

Note: For Coaxitron cameras/domes, you can select the PTZ protocol to UTC (Coaxitron). This will make other parameters like baud rate unavailable. AHD and HDCVI cameras also support coaxitron control.

4. Click OK.

The PTZ Control Panel allows you to manually control pan, tilt, and zoom functions.

A preset is a saved location where the PTZ camera will point when called.

Steps to set a preset:

1. In live view, open the PTZ control panel for the camera.

2. In the ‘Preset’ tab, select a desired preset number from the list.

3. Use the direction buttons, zoom, and focus to move the camera to the desired location.

4. Click the ‘Set’ icon to save the position to the selected preset number.

To call a preset, simply double-click the preset in the preset list.

A patrol is a path consisting of a series of presets that the camera moves between in sequence.

Steps to create a patrol:

1. Open the PTZ control panel and click the ‘Patrol’ tab.

2. Select a patrol number to configure.

3. Click ‘Set’.

4. Click the ‘+’ icon to add a key point.

5. Configure the key point parameters: select a ‘Preset’, set the ‘Duration’ (time to stay at the preset), and ‘Speed’ (speed to move to the next preset).

6. Repeat steps 4-5 to add more key points to the patrol.

7. Click ‘Apply’.

To run the patrol, select the patrol from the list and click ‘Call’. The PTZ camera will move according to the predefined patrol path.

A pattern records the exact movement path of the PTZ camera as you control it manually.

Steps to record a pattern:

1. Open the PTZ control panel and click the ‘Pattern’ tab.

2. Select a pattern number.

3. Click ‘Record’.

4. Use the direction buttons, zoom, and focus to move the camera. All movements are recorded.

5. Click ‘Stop Recording’ to finish.

To run the pattern, select the pattern from the list and click ‘Call’. The PTZ camera will replay the recorded path.

Steps:

1. Go to the ‘Playback’ menu.

2. Select a camera from the camera list on the left.

3. Select a date on the calendar. Dates with a blue triangle have available video recordings.

4. The timeline will show recorded video. Blue bars represent continuous video, and red bars represent event video.

5. Use the playback controls at the bottom to play, pause, stop, reverse, speed up, or slow down the video.

6. You can position the cursor on the timeline and drag it to a specific time.

7. Scroll up/down on the timeline to zoom in/out.

8. Optional: Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar for actions like adding a tag, turning on audio, digital zoom, and locking the video.

Smart playback analyzes video for motion, line crossing, or intrusion events, allowing you to quickly find relevant footage.

Before you start, ensure you have configured motion detection, line crossing, or intrusion detection rules.

Steps:

1. Go to the ‘Playback’ menu.

2. Click ‘Smart’.

3. Select a camera.

4. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar.

5. Use the icons on the control bar to set detection areas for the smart event:

• For Motion Detection: Click the corresponding icon and draw a detection area.

• For Intrusion Detection: Click the corresponding icon and draw a quadrilateral detection area.

• For Line Crossing Detection: Click the corresponding icon and draw a detection line.

6. After setting the area, the system will play back only the video segments where the specified event occurred.

7. You can click the ‘Play Strategy’ icon to configure options like ‘Do not Play Normal Videos’ or to set playback speeds for normal and smart video segments.

This feature allows you to divide a time period into equal segments and play them simultaneously on different screens.

Steps:

1. Go to the ‘Playback’ menu.

2. Click ‘Sub-periods’.

3. Select a camera.

4. Set the start and end time for the playback period.

5. Optional: Select a window division mode (e.g., 4-Period, 9-Period). This will divide the total time into that many equal segments.

6. Click the ‘Search’ icon. The videos will be played simultaneously in the selected number of screens.

You can export video clips to a backup device like a USB flash drive.

Before you start, connect a backup device to your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2.

Steps:

1. Start video playback.

2. Click the ‘Clip’ icon (scissors) on the main playback control bar.

3. A timeline segment will appear. You can either:

• Click the ‘Start Clipping’ icon, let the video play to the desired end point, and click the ‘End Clipping’ icon.

• Drag the start and end markers on the time bar to define the segment you want to clip.

4. After defining the clip, click the ‘Backup’ icon (diskette).

5. Click ‘Export’ to save the clip to your backup device.

Steps for searching and exporting:

1. Go to the ‘Search’ menu.

2. Set your search conditions (e.g., camera, date, time, file type).

3. Click ‘Search’. A list of matching files will appear.

4. From the file list, you can:

• Click the ‘Play’ icon to watch the video.

• Click the ‘Lock’ icon to protect the file from being overwritten.

• Select one or more files and click ‘Export’ to save them to a connected backup device.

For a quicker backup:

1. Go to ‘Search’.

2. Set your search conditions.

3. Click ‘Quick Export’.

4. Select the backup device and path.

5. Click OK to start exporting.

The default ‘admin’ user has permission to add, delete, and edit other users.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → User.

2. Click ‘Add’ and confirm your admin password if prompted.

3. In the ‘Add User’ window, enter a new ‘User Name’.

4. Enter and confirm a password for the new user. It is highly recommended to create a strong password.

5. Select a ‘User Level’. A Guest user only has live view, playback, and log search permission.

6. Click OK.

Motion detection enables the DVR to detect moving objects and trigger alarms.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Motion Detection.

2. Select a camera to configure.

3. Check ‘Enable’.

4. Under the ‘Area Settings’ tab, set the motion detection area. You can click ‘Full Screen’ to select the entire view or drag on the preview window to draw custom areas.

5. Adjust ‘Sensitivity’. A higher value makes the alarm more sensitive to movement.

6. Go to the ‘Arming Schedule’ tab to set the time periods when motion detection should be active.

7. Go to the ‘Linkage Action’ tab to set what happens when motion is detected (e.g., sound a warning, trigger recording, send an email).

8. Click ‘Apply’.

A newly installed HDD must be initialized before it can be used to save videos.

Before you start, ensure at least one HDD is physically installed in your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage.

2. A list of installed HDDs will be displayed. Select the new HDD from the list.

3. Click ‘Init’. The HDD will be formatted, and all existing data will be erased.

The recording schedule determines when the DVR will record video automatically.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Schedule.

2. Select a camera from the ‘Camera No.’ dropdown list.

3. Check ‘Enable’ to activate the schedule for this camera.

4. You can configure the schedule in two ways:

• **Using the Edit Button:** Click ‘Edit’. Select a day (or all days), check ‘All Day’ for 24-hour recording or uncheck it to set specific ‘Start/End Time’ periods. Choose the schedule type (e.g., Continuous, Event). You can set up to 8 periods per day. Click OK.

• **Drawing on the Timeline:** Select a schedule type (e.g., Continuous, Event) by clicking on its colored key. Then, on the timeline grid, click and drag the mouse across the hours for each day you want to apply that recording type.

5. Click ‘Apply’ to save the schedule.

You can restore the device settings if needed.

Steps:

1. Go to the ‘Maintenance’ menu.

2. Select the type of restoration you want to perform:

• **Simple Restore:** Restores all parameters to factory defaults, except for network settings (IP address, subnet mask, gateway, etc.) and user accounts.

• **Factory Defaults:** Restores all parameters to the factory default settings, including network and user information.

• **Restore to Inactive:** Restores the device to an inactive state, leaving all settings unchanged except for user accounts.

3. Click ‘Yes’ to confirm. The device will reboot automatically.

You can upgrade your device’s firmware either locally from a USB device or online.

Local Upgrade

Before you start, store the upgrade firmware file on a backup device (like a USB flash drive) and connect it to your DVR.

Steps:

1. Go to the ‘Maintenance’ menu.

2. Click the folder icon next to ‘Firmware’.

3. Select your backup device from the ‘Device Name’ list.

4. Select the upgrade firmware file from the list.

5. Click ‘Upgrade’. Your device will reboot automatically after the upgrade is complete. Do not shut down or turn off the power during the upgrade.

Online Upgrade

Before you start, ensure Guarding Vision is enabled and configured.

Steps:

1. Go to the ‘Maintenance’ menu.

2. Click the ‘+’ icon.

3. Go to ‘Online Upgrade’.

4. The device will automatically check for the latest firmware. You can also click ‘Test Upgrade’ to manually check.

5. If a new firmware version is available, follow the prompts to download and install it. The device will reboot automatically.

You can access your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2 via a web browser like Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome.

Steps:

1. Open your web browser and enter the IP address of the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2 in the address bar, then press Enter. If you have changed the default HTTP port, you must specify it (e.g., http://192.168.1.64:81).

2. On the login page, enter your user name (e.g., admin) and password.

3. Click ‘Login’.

4. If prompted, follow the installation instructions to install the required browser plug-in. You may need to close and reopen the browser to complete the installation.
