For first-time access, you must activate the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K1 by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation.

Before you start, power on your device.

Steps:

1. Select a language.

2. Click Next.

3. Input the same password in the Password and Confirm Password fields. It is highly recommended to create a strong password of your own choosing (using a minimum of 8 characters, including at least three of the following categories: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special characters) to increase the security of your product. It is also recommended to reset your password regularly.

4. Activate network camera(s) connected to the device. You can either check ‘Use Device Password as Default’ to use the device password to activate them, or enter a separate password.

5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. If you forget your password, you can reset it by email. Check ‘Enable’ and enter an email address.

6. Click Activate.

The admin user can use an unlock pattern to log in. You can configure this after the device is activated.

Steps:

1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. Release the mouse when the pattern is done. Note that the pattern must have at least 4 dots, and each dot can only be connected once.

2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

Steps:

1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface.

2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

If you have forgotten your pattern, click ‘Forgot My Pattern’ or ‘Switch User’ to log in via password. If you draw the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal password login mode automatically.

If your video recorder has logged out, you must log in before operating the menu and other functions.

Steps:

1. Select your User Name from the dropdown list.

2. Input your password.

3. Click Login.

Note: If you forget the admin password, you can click ‘Forgot Password’ to reset it. If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the user account will be locked for 60 seconds.

The Live View interface provides several functions for managing your cameras:

• Click the auto-switch icon to start/stop auto-switching between screens.

• Click the record icon to start/stop all-day recording.

• Right-click a camera or click the full-screen icon to enter full-screen mode.

• Double-click a camera to view it in single-screen mode. Double-click again to exit.

• Change a camera live view screen by dragging it to the desired screen.

• Scroll up/down to turn to the previous/next screen.

• Position the cursor on a camera to show the shortcut menu.

Live View Icon Description

In the live view interface, icons at the upper-right corner of each camera screen show the camera’s recording and alarm status.

You must configure PTZ parameters before controlling a PTZ camera.

Steps:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ control icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click ‘PTZ Parameter Settings’.

3. Set the PTZ camera parameters. All parameters should be the same as the PTZ camera’s settings.

– For a Coaxitron camera/dome, you can select the PTZ protocol to UTC (Coaxitron).

– AHD and HDCVI cameras support coaxitron control.

– Selecting the Coaxitron protocol will make other parameters like baud rate, data bit, stop bit, parity, and flow control unavailable.

4. Click OK.

Set a preset location where the PTZ camera will point to when an event occurs.

Steps:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Select a desired preset number in the preset list.

3. Use the direction buttons to move the camera to the required location. Adjust zoom and focus as desired.

4. Click the set icon to save the preset.

To call a preset, double-click it in the preset list.

A patrol is a path consisting of a series of presets in a designated sequence.

Steps:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click ‘Patrol’.

3. Select a desired patrol.

4. Click ‘Set’.

5. Click ‘+’ to add a key point.

6. Configure key point parameters: key point No. (corresponds to a preset), duration (time to stay at the key point), and speed (speed to move to the next key point).

7. Click ‘Apply’.

To start a patrol, select it and click ‘Call’. The PTZ camera will move according to the predefined patrol path.

A pattern records the movement path and dwell time of the PTZ camera.

Steps:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click ‘Pattern’.

3. Select a pattern.

4. Click ‘Record’.

5. Use the direction buttons to move the camera to required locations. Adjust zoom and focus as desired.

6. Click ‘Stop Recording’. The PTZ camera’s moving path is recorded as a pattern.

To start a pattern, select it and click ‘Call’.

Steps:

1. Go to ‘Playback’.

2. Select a camera from the camera list.

3. Select a date on the calendar for playback. A blue triangle at the corner of a date indicates available video.

4. Optional: Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar, which allows you to add tags, turn audio on/off, zoom, and lock/unlock video.

On the timeline, blue bars indicate normal video, and red bars indicate event video. You can drag the timeline or scroll to zoom in/out.

Smart playback analyzes video for motion, line crossing, or intrusion detection events to help you find relevant footage quickly.

Before you start, ensure you have configured motion detection, line crossing, and intrusion detection rules.

Steps:

1. Go to ‘Playback’.

2. Click ‘Smart’.

3. Select a camera.

4. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar.

5. On the control bar, click the detection area icon to set detection areas for the smart event. You can draw areas for motion, intrusion, or line crossing detection.

6. Click the play strategy icon to configure playback settings. You can choose to skip normal videos and set playback speed for smart/custom videos.

You can clip videos during playback and export them to a backup device (USB flash drive, USB HDD, etc.).

Before you start, connect a backup device to your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Start playback in ‘Normal Playback’ mode.

2. Click the clip icon.

3. Clip the video. You can either click the start/end time icons to set the start and end times or set a time segment directly on the time bar for clipping.

4. Click the save/export icon.

5. Click ‘Export’ to export the clip to your backup device.

Steps:

1. Go to ‘Search’.

2. Set your search conditions (e.g., date, time, camera).

3. Click ‘Search’.

– Click the play icon to play the video.

– Click the lock icon to lock the file. Locked files will not be overwritten.

– Select one or more files and click ‘Export’ to export them to a backup device.

Before you start, connect a backup device to your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Go to ‘Search’.

2. Set the search conditions.

3. Click ‘Quick Export’.

4. Select the backup device and path.

5. Click OK to start exporting.

The default account is ‘admin’. The administrator has permission to add, delete, and edit users.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → User.

2. Click ‘Add’ and confirm your admin password.

3. Enter a user name.

4. Enter the same password in ‘Password’ and ‘Confirm’.

5. Click OK.

When you forget your login pattern and password, the device can send an email containing a verification code to your email address for password resetting.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → User.

2. Click ‘Password Resetting Email’.

3. Enter the admin password for authorization.

4. Enter an email address.

5. Click OK.

Guarding Vision provides a mobile phone application and platform service to access and manage your connected devices.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Network → Platform Access.

2. Select Access Type as ‘Guarding Vision’.

3. Check ‘Enable’. The service terms will pop up.

a. Scan the QR code to read the service terms and privacy statement.

b. Check ‘I have read and agree to Service Terms and Privacy Statement’.

c. Click OK.

4. Optional: Check ‘Stream Encryption’. This requires a verification code for remote access.

5. Optional: Check ‘Custom’ and edit the Server Address if needed.

6. Enter a code in ‘Verification Code’. You can click ‘Refresh’ to generate a random code.

7. Click ‘Apply’.

After setup, you can access your video recorder via the Guarding Vision app by scanning the QR codes provided on the screen.

Before you start, ensure your video recorder is on a local network with an SMTP mail server and network parameters are configured correctly.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Network → Email.

2. Set the email parameters:

– Server Authentication: (Optional) Check to enable server authentication and enter the User Name and Password for the sender’s email account.

– SSL/TLS: (Optional) Check to enable SSL/TLS if required by the SMTP server.

– Sender: The sender’s name.

– Sender’s Address: The sender’s email address.

– Select Receiver: Select a receiver (up to 3 are available).

– Receiver: The receiver’s name.

– Receiver’s Address: The receiver’s email address.

You can add a network camera either by using the device password or by adding it manually.

Add by Device Password (Auto Search):

Ensure the network camera is on the same network segment and has the same password as your video recorder.

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. The online cameras on the same network segment are displayed in the list.

3. Click the ‘+’ icon to add the camera.

Add Manually:

Ensure the camera is on the same network segment and is activated.

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. Click ‘+’.

3. Set the network camera parameters (IP address, protocol, management port, etc.). You can check ‘Use IPC Active Password’ to use the device’s password.

4. Optional: Click ‘Add More’ to add another network camera.

5. Click OK.

Motion detection enables the recorder to detect moving objects and trigger alarms.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Motion Detection.

2. Select a camera.

3. Check ‘Enable’.

4. Set the motion detection area. You can choose ‘Full screen’ or drag on the preview window to draw a ‘Customized area’. Use ‘Clear’ to remove the area.

5. Adjust ‘Sensitivity’ to calibrate how readily movement triggers the alarm. A higher value means more sensitivity.

6. Set the ‘Arming Schedule’ to define when motion detection is active.

7. Set ‘Linkage Actions’ to define what happens when motion is detected (e.g., record, send email).

8. Click ‘Apply’.

A newly installed HDD must be initialized before it can be used to save videos.

Before you start, ensure at least one HDD is installed in your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage.

2. Select the HDD you want to initialize from the list.

3. Click ‘Init’. The HDD will be formatted.

The recorder will automatically start/stop recording based on the configured schedule.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Schedule.

2. Select a camera from the ‘Camera No.’ dropdown.

3. Check ‘Enable’.

4. Configure the schedule:

– To set a schedule for a day, click ‘Edit’. Select a weekday, choose a schedule type (e.g., Continuous, Event), and set the time period. You can check ‘All Day’ for 24-hour recording or set specific start/end times. Up to 8 periods can be set per day and they cannot overlap.

– Alternatively, you can select a schedule type (Continuous or Event) and drag the mouse on the desired period on the weekly schedule table to draw a colored bar.

5. Click ‘Apply’ to save the schedule.

Steps:

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. Select the restoring type:

– Simple Restore: Restores all parameters to factory defaults, except for network and user account parameters.

– Factory Defaults: Restores all parameters to the factory default settings.

– Restore to Inactive: Restores the device to an inactive state, leaving all settings unchanged except for user accounts.

3. Click ‘Yes’. The device will reboot automatically.

You can upgrade the firmware locally from a backup device or online.

Local Upgrade:

1. Store the upgrade firmware file on a backup device (like a USB drive) and connect it to your recorder.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the folder icon near ‘Firmware’.

4. Select your backup device in ‘Device Name’.

5. Select the upgrade firmware file.

6. Click ‘Upgrade’. Your device will reboot automatically after the upgrade.

Online Upgrade:

1. Ensure Guarding Vision is enabled and configured.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the ‘+’ icon.

4. Go to ‘Online Upgrade’.

5. You can either use ‘Auto Download’ to automatically check and download the latest firmware, or ‘Test Upgrade’ to manually check.

6. If a new firmware version is available, the device will prompt you to upgrade. The device will reboot automatically.

You can access the video recorder via a web browser like Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome.

Steps:

1. Open a web browser and enter the IP address of the video recorder in the address bar, then press Enter. If you have changed the HTTP port, enter it as http://IP-address:HTTP-port (e.g., http:192.168.1.64:81).

2. Follow the installation prompts to install the required plug-in. You may need to close the browser to complete the installation.

3. In the login interface, enter your user name and password.

4. Click ‘Login’.
