For first-time access, you need to activate the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation. First, ensure the device is powered on.

Step 1. Select a language.

Step 2. Click Next.

Step 3. Input the same strong password in both the Password and Confirm Password fields. It is highly recommended to create a strong password of your own choosing (using a minimum of 8 characters, including at least three of the following categories: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special characters) to increase the security of your product.

Step 4. Activate any network camera(s) connected to the device. You can either check ‘Use Device Password as Default’ to use the device password for activation or enter a different password to activate the network camera(s).

Step 5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. If you forget your password, you can reset it by email. Check ‘Enable’ and enter an email address.

Step 6. Click Activate.

The admin user can use an unlock pattern to log in. You can configure this after the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R is activated.

Set Unlock Pattern:

Step 1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. Release the mouse when the pattern is done. The pattern must have at least 4 dots, and each dot can be connected only once.

Step 2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

Log in via Unlock Pattern:

Step 1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface.

Step 2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

Note: If you have forgotten your pattern, click ‘Forgot My Pattern’ or ‘Switch User’ to log in via password. If you draw the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal password login mode automatically.

If your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R has logged out, you must log in before operating the menu and other functions.

Step 1. In the login interface, select your User Name from the dropdown list (e.g., admin).

Step 2. Input your password.

Step 3. Click Login.

Note: If you forget the admin password, you can click ‘Forgot Password’ to reset it. If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the user account will be locked for 60 seconds.

The Live View interface provides several controls for managing your cameras.

General Navigation:

• Click the auto-switch icon to start/stop automatically switching between camera screens.

• Click the manual record icon to start/stop all-day recording for all cameras.

• Right-click a camera or click the full-screen icon to enter full-screen mode.

• Double-click a camera to view it in single-screen mode. Double-click again to exit.

• Drag a camera’s live view screen to a different window to change its position.

• Scroll the mouse wheel up/down to switch to the previous/next screen.

To control a PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) camera, you must first configure its parameters.

1. Configure PTZ Parameters:

Step 1. In Live View, click the PTZ Control icon on the desired camera’s shortcut menu.

Step 2. Click ‘PTZ Parameter Settings’.

Step 3. Set the PTZ camera parameters such as Baud Rate, Data Bit, Stop Bit, Parity, Flow Ctrl, PTZ Protocol, and Address. These settings must match the PTZ camera’s settings.

Note: For Coaxitron cameras (including certain AHD and HDCVI models), you can select the PTZ protocol to UTC (Coaxitron), which supports control over the coaxial cable and makes other parameters unavailable.

Step 4. Click OK.

Once configured, use the PTZ control panel for movement:

3. Customize Presets, Patrols, and Patterns:

• Preset: A preset is a saved camera position. To set one, select a preset number, use the PTZ controls to position the camera, and click the ‘Set’ icon. To call a preset, double-click it in the list.

• Patrol: A patrol is a path consisting of a series of presets. To create one, go to the Patrol tab, select a patrol number, click Set, and add key points (presets) with specified duration and speed. To run a patrol, select it and click Call.

• Pattern: A pattern records the exact movement path of the PTZ camera. To record one, go to the Pattern tab, select a pattern, click Record, move the camera as desired, and then click Stop Recording. To run the pattern, select it and click Call.

You can play back recorded videos using Normal Playback, Smart Playback, or Sub-Periods Playback.

Normal Playback:

Step 1. Go to the Playback menu.

Step 2. Select a camera from the camera list on the left.

Step 3. Select a date on the calendar. Dates with a blue triangle have available video recordings.

Step 4. Use the timeline at the bottom to find and play video. The blue bar indicates continuous recording, and the red bar indicates event recording. You can click on the timeline or drag the cursor to a specific time. Use the mouse wheel to zoom in/out on the timeline.

Smart Playback:

This mode analyzes video for motion, line crossing, or intrusion events, allowing you to skip less effective information.

Step 1. Go to Playback and click the ‘Smart’ tab.

Step 2. Select a camera and date.

Step 3. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar. Use the icons to draw detection areas for motion, line crossing, or intrusion.

Step 4. The system will play back video segments where these smart events were detected.

Sub-Periods Playback:

This mode plays videos from multiple sub-periods of a day simultaneously.

Step 1. Go to Playback and click the ‘Sub-periods’ tab.

Step 2. Select a camera and set a start and end time.

Step 3. Select a window division mode (e.g., 4-Period).

Step 4. Click the play button. The selected time range will be divided into equal segments and played simultaneously in the divided windows.

You can create video clips during playback and export them to a backup device like a USB flash drive or USB HDD.

Step 1. Connect a backup device to your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R.

Step 2. Start video playback as you would for normal playback.

Step 3. On the playback interface, click the ‘Clip’ icon (scissors).

Step 4. Define the start and end time for your clip. You can do this by clicking the ‘Clip’ icon again to set the start time, then moving the timeline and clicking it a final time to set the end time. A time segment will be marked on the time bar.

Step 5. Click the ‘Export’ icon (save/disk).

Step 6. Follow the on-screen prompts to export the clip to your connected backup device.

Search for a File:

Step 1. Go to the ‘Search’ menu.

Step 2. Set your search conditions (e.g., camera, date, time, file type).

Step 3. Click ‘Search’.

Step 4. From the results list, you can click the play icon to watch the video, or click the lock icon to lock the file and prevent it from being overwritten.

Step 5. Select the file(s) you want to export and click ‘Export’.

Quick Backup:

This provides a faster way to export files.

Step 1. Connect a backup device to your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R.

Step 2. Go to the ‘Search’ menu.

Step 3. Set your search conditions.

Step 4. Click ‘Quick Export’.

Step 5. Select the backup device and path where you want to save the files.

Step 6. Click ‘OK’ to start exporting.

In Easy Mode, you can configure basic system settings like output resolution, system time, and more.

Step 1. Go to Configuration → System → General.

Step 2. Configure the parameters as needed:

• System Date/Time: Set the correct date and time.

• Resolution: Set the output resolution for your monitor (e.g., 1024*768/60HZ).

• Enable Wizard: Check this to have the setup wizard pop up after the device starts.

• Enable Password: Check this to require a password for authentication if the device automatically logs out.

• Enable NTP: Check this to synchronize the device’s time with a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server. You will need to enter the NTP Server address, NTP Port, and sync Interval (min).

Step 3. Click ‘Apply’ to save the settings.

The default ‘admin’ user has permission to add, delete, and edit other users. A ‘Guest’ user only has live view, playback, and log search permissions.

Step 1. Go to Configuration → User.

Step 2. Click ‘Add’ and confirm your admin password if prompted.

Step 3. In the Add User window, enter a ‘User Name’.

Step 4. Enter the same password in the ‘Password’ and ‘Confirm’ fields. It is recommended to use a strong password (8-16 characters with a combination of numbers, lowercase, uppercase, and special characters).

Step 5. Select the ‘User Level’ (e.g., Guest). A normal user has live view, playback, and log search permissions.

Step 6. Click ‘OK’.

Before you start, ensure your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R is on a local area network with an SMTP mail server and that your network parameters are configured correctly.

Step 1. Go to Configuration → Network → Email.

Step 2. Set the email parameters:

• Server Authentication: (Optional) Check to enable server authentication and enter the User Name and Password for your email account.

• SMTP Server: Enter your email provider’s SMTP server address (e.g., smtp.gmail.com).

• SMTP Port: Enter the SMTP port (e.g., 465 or 587).

• SSL/TLS: (Optional) Check to enable SSL/TLS if required by your SMTP server.

• Attached Picture: Check if you want event images attached to the email.

• Sender: Enter the sender’s name.

• Sender’s Address: Enter the sender’s email address.

• Select Receiver: Select a receiver (up to 3 are available) and enter the Receiver’s name and email address.

Step 3. Click ‘Apply’ to save the settings.

You can add network cameras manually or by searching for online cameras on your network.

Activate the Network Camera:

Only activated network cameras can be added. Ensure the camera is on the same network segment.

Step 1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

Step 2. If the camera’s security status is ‘Inactive’, click on it.

Step 3. In the Activation window, create a strong password for the camera. You can also check ‘Use Channel Default Password’ to use a pre-set password. Click OK.

Add an Online Network Camera Manually:

Step 1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

Step 2. Click the ‘+’ (Add) button.

Step 3. Set the network camera parameters, including IP address, protocol (e.g., ONVIF), management port, user name, and password.

Step 4. (Optional) Click ‘Add More’ to add another network camera.

Step 5. Click ‘OK’.

Add an Automatically Searched Network Camera:

This method works for online cameras on the same network segment.

Step 1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Camera → IP Camera.

Step 2. Click ‘Online Device’. The system will search for available cameras.

Step 3. Select a camera from the list and click ‘Add’ to add it.

Motion detection enables the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R to detect moving objects in the monitored area and trigger alarms or recording.

Step 1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Motion Detection.

Step 2. Select a camera from the dropdown list.

Step 3. Check the ‘Enable’ box.

Step 4. Under the ‘Area Settings’ tab, set the motion detection area. You can click ‘Full Screen’ to select the entire view or drag the mouse on the preview window to draw customized detection areas. Click ‘Clear’ to remove the areas.

Step 5. Adjust the ‘Sensitivity’ slider. A higher value makes the alarm more sensitive to movement.

Step 6. Go to the ‘Arming Schedule’ tab to set the time periods when motion detection should be active.

Step 7. Go to the ‘Linkage Action’ tab to configure what happens when motion is detected (e.g., trigger recording, send email, audible warning).

Step 8. Click ‘Apply’ to save the settings.

The HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R will automatically start and stop recording according to the schedule you configure.

Step 1. Go to Configuration → Record → Schedule.

Step 2. Select a camera from the ‘Camera No.’ dropdown list.

Step 3. Check the ‘Enable’ box.

Step 4. Configure the schedule using one of these methods:

• Draw on the timeline: Select a recording type (e.g., Continuous or Event) from the colored keys. Then, click and drag the mouse across the timeline grid for each day to set the schedule.

• Use the Edit button:

a. Click ‘Edit’.

b. In the pop-up window, select a day (or check ‘All Day’) and a schedule type (Continuous, Event).

c. To set specific time periods, uncheck ‘All Day’ and enter up to 8 different Start/End times for the selected day.

d. Click ‘OK’ to save the schedule for that day. You can use the ‘Copy’ button to apply the same schedule to other days.

Step 5. Click ‘Apply’ on the main schedule page to save all changes.

A newly installed HDD must be initialized before it can be used to save videos and information.

Step 1. Ensure at least one HDD is physically installed in your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R.

Step 2. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage.

Step 3. Select the HDD you want to initialize from the list. It will likely show a status of ‘Uninitialized’.

Step 4. Click the ‘Init’ button.

Step 5. A confirmation prompt will appear, warning that all data on the disk will be erased. Click ‘OK’ to proceed.

The HDD will be formatted, and its status will change to ‘Normal’ once the process is complete.

Guarding Vision provides a mobile phone application and platform service for remote access to your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R.

Step 1. Go to Configuration → Network → Platform Access.

Step 2. Select ‘Access Type’ as ‘Guarding Vision’.

Step 3. Check ‘Enable’. The service terms will pop up.

a. Scan the QR code to read the service terms and privacy statement.

b. Check ‘I have read and agree to Service Terms and Privacy Statement’ if you agree.

c. Click OK.

Step 4. (Optional) Check ‘Stream Encryption’ to require a verification code for remote access. This enhances security.

Step 5. Enter a code in ‘Verification Code’. You can click ‘Refresh’ to randomly generate one.

Step 6. Click ‘Apply’. The ‘Status’ should change to ‘Online’.

To access your device, scan the first QR code shown on this screen to download the Guarding Vision app. Then, open the app and scan the second QR code to add your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R.

You can configure OSD settings like camera name and date format that appear on the video.

Step 1. Go to Configuration → Camera → OSD.

Step 2. Select a camera from the dropdown list.

Step 3. Configure the settings:

• Camera Name: Enter a custom name for the camera.

• Display Name: Check to show the camera name on the screen.

• Display Date: Check to show the date.

• Display Week: Check to show the day of the week.

• Date Format / Time Format: Choose your preferred formats.

Step 4. Drag the text frames (e.g., camera name, date/time) on the preview window to your desired position.

Step 5. Click ‘Apply’ to save the changes.

You can upgrade your device’s firmware from a local backup device or via an online check. Do not shut down or turn off the power during the upgrade process.

Local Upgrade:

Step 1. Store the upgrade firmware file on a backup device (e.g., USB flash drive) and connect it to your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R.

Step 2. Go to the ‘Maintenance’ menu.

Step 3. In the Firmware section, select your backup device from the ‘Device Name’ list.

Step 4. Select the correct upgrade firmware file.

Online Upgrade:

You can restore the device’s parameters to the factory default settings if needed.

Step 1. Go to the ‘Maintenance’ menu.

Step 2. Select the restoring type:

• Simple Restore: Restores all parameters to factory defaults, EXCEPT for network settings (IP address, subnet mask, gateway, etc.) and user accounts.

• Factory Defaults: Restores ALL parameters to the factory default settings, including network and user accounts.

• Restore to Inactive: Restores the device to an inactive state, requiring you to set a new admin password upon restart. It leaves all other settings unchanged except for restoring user accounts.

Step 3. Click ‘Yes’ to confirm. The device will reboot automatically.

You can access the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R via web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome.

Step 1. Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network as your DVR.

Step 2. Input the IP address of the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K2-R into the address bar and press Enter. If you have changed the default HTTP port (80), you must specify it, for example: http://192.168.1.64:81.

Step 3. On the login page, enter your ‘user name’ and ‘password’.

Step 4. Click ‘Login’.
