For first-time access, you must activate the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1 by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation.

Before You Start:

Power on your device.

Steps:

1. Select a language.

2. Click Next.

3. Input the same password in the Password and Confirm Password fields.

4. Activate network camera(s) connected to the device:

Check Use Device Password as Default to use the device password to activate the inactive network camera(s).

Alternatively, enter a password to activate network camera(s).

5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. When you forget your password, you can reset it by email.

1) Check Enable.

2) Enter an email address.

6. Click Activate.

The admin user can use an unlock pattern to log in. You can configure the unlock pattern after the device is activated.

Set Unlock Pattern:

1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. Release the mouse when the pattern is done. The pattern must have at least 4 dots, and each dot can be connected only once.

2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

Log in via Unlock Pattern:

1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface.

2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

Note: If you have forgotten your pattern, click Forgot My Pattern or Switch User to log in via password. If you draw the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal login mode automatically.

If your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1 has logged out, you must log in before operating the menu and other functions.

Steps:

1. Select User Name (e.g., admin).

2. Input the password.

3. Click Login.

Note: If you forget the admin password, you can click Forgot Password to reset it. If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the user account will be locked for 60 seconds.

The Live View interface on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1 provides several controls for viewing and managing your cameras.

General Navigation:

• Click the auto-switch icon to start/stop automatically switching between cameras.

• Click the all-day recording icon to start/stop it.

• Right-click a camera or click the full-screen icon to enter full-screen mode.

• Double-click a camera to view it in single-screen mode. Double-click again to exit.

• Drag a camera’s live view screen to a desired screen to change its position.

• Scroll up/down to turn to the previous/next screen.

• Position the cursor on a camera to show the shortcut menu.

Shortcut Menu Description:

Live View Icon Description:

In the live view interface, icons in the upper-right corner of each camera show its status.

You must configure PTZ parameters before controlling a PTZ camera.

1. Configure PTZ Parameters:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click PTZ Parameter Settings.

3. Set the PTZ camera parameters (Baud Rate, Data Bit, Stop Bit, Parity, Flow Ctrl, PTZ Protocol, Address). All parameters should be the same as the PTZ camera’s settings.

4. Click OK.

2. Customize Presets:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ icon.

2. Select a desired preset from the preset list.

3. Use the direction buttons and zoom/focus controls to move the camera to the desired location.

4. Click the ‘Set’ icon to save the preset.

To call a preset, double-click it in the preset list.

3. Customize Patrols:

1. In the PTZ control panel, click Patrol.

2. Select a desired patrol and click Set.

3. Click ‘+’ to add key points. A key point corresponds to a preset.

4. Configure the key point number, duration (time to stay at the point), and speed (speed to move to the next point).

5. Click Apply.

To start a patrol, select it and click Call.

4. Customize Patterns:

1. In the PTZ control panel, click Pattern.

2. Select a pattern and click Record.

3. Use the direction buttons and other controls to move the camera along a desired path.

4. Click Stop Recording. The path is saved as a pattern.

To start a pattern, select it and click Call.

You can play back normal videos, use smart playback to find events, or play back clips from multiple sub-periods simultaneously.

Normal Playback:

1. Go to Playback.

2. Select a camera from the camera list.

3. Select a date on the calendar. A blue triangle indicates available video.

4. Use the timeline to navigate. A blue bar indicates normal video, and a red bar indicates event video. You can drag the timeline or scroll to zoom in/out.

Smart Playback:

This function analyzes video for motion, line crossing, or intrusion detection events to help you find relevant footage quickly.

1. Go to Playback and click Smart.

2. Select a camera.

3. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar. Use the icons to draw detection areas for motion, line crossing, or intrusion.

4. Click the settings icon to configure the play strategy, such as skipping normal videos.

Sub-Periods Playback:

1. Go to Playback and click Sub-periods.

2. Select a camera.

3. Set a start and end time.

4. Optionally, select a window division mode (4, 9, or 16-Period). The time range will be divided into equal segments and played simultaneously in different windows.

5. Click the play icon to start.

You can clip videos during playback and export them to a backup device like a USB flash drive.

Before You Start:

Connect a backup device to your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1.

Steps:

1. Start playback of the desired video.

2. Click the ‘Clip’ (scissors) icon on the control bar.

3. To clip the video, you can either:

• Click the start time icon, then the end time icon, and click OK.

• Set a time segment directly on the time bar for clipping.

4. Click the ‘Export’ icon.

5. Click Export again to export the clip to your backup device.

You can search for files based on various conditions and perform actions like playback, locking, and exporting.

Search and Export Files:

1. Go to Search.

2. Set your search conditions (e.g., camera, time, event type).

3. Click Search.

4. From the results list, you can:

• Click the play icon to play the video.

• Click the lock icon to lock the file. Locked files will not be overwritten.

• Select one or more files and click Export to save them to a backup device.

Quick Backup:

1. Go to Search.

2. Set the search conditions for the files you want to back up.

3. Click Quick Export.

4. Select the backup device and path.

5. Click OK to start exporting.

In Easy Mode, you can configure basic system settings such as resolution, time, and password requirements.

1. Go to Configuration → System → General.

2. Configure the parameters as needed:

• System Date/Time: Set the current date and time.

• Resolution: Set the output resolution.

• Enable Wizard: If checked, the startup wizard will pop up after the device starts.

• Enable Password: If checked, you need to enter a password for authentication if the device automatically logs out.

• Enable NTP: Check to enable Network Time Protocol to synchronize the device time with an NTP server. You can set the interval, server address, and port.

3. Click Apply to save the settings.

The default administrator user is ‘admin’. The administrator can add, delete, and edit other users.

Add a User:

1. Go to Configuration → User.

2. Click Add and confirm your admin password.

3. Enter a User Name.

4. Enter the same password in Password and Confirm.

5. Select a User Level (e.g., Guest, who only has live view, playback, and log search permission).

6. Click OK.

Set Password Resetting Email:

This allows you to receive a verification code to reset your password if you forget it.

1. Go to Configuration → User.

2. Click Password Resetting Email.

3. Enter the admin password for authorization.

4. Enter an email address.

5. Click OK.

Reset a Forgotten Password:

1. Click Forgot Password at the password login interface.

2. Follow the wizard to reset the password.

Properly configuring network settings is required to operate the device over a network.

General Network Settings:

1. Go to Configuration → Network → General.

2. To automatically obtain an IP address, check Enable DHCP. If DHCP is enabled, you can also check Obtain DNS Automatically.

3. To manually set the IP address, uncheck DHCP and enter the IPv4 Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway.

4. Click Apply.

Guarding Vision Setup (for mobile access):

1. Go to Configuration → Network → Platform Access.

2. Select Access Type as Guarding Vision.

3. Check Enable. Read and agree to the service terms and privacy statement.

4. Optional: Check Stream Encryption for added security. This will require a verification code for remote access.

5. Enter a code in Verification Code. You can click Refresh to generate a random code.

6. Click Apply.

After setup, you can use the Guarding Vision mobile app to scan the QR code on this screen to add your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1 for remote viewing.

Your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1 can detect various events and trigger alarms or other actions.

Configure Motion Detection:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Motion Detection.

2. Select a camera.

3. Check Enable.

4. Under the Area Settings tab, set the motion detection area. You can click Full Screen or drag on the preview window to draw a customized area. Click Clear to remove areas.

5. Adjust Sensitivity. A higher value makes the alarm trigger more readily.

6. Under the Arming Schedule tab, set the time periods when motion detection is active.

7. Under the Linkage Action tab, configure what happens when motion is detected (e.g., audible warning, send email, trigger recording).

8. Click Apply.

Configure Line Crossing or Intrusion Detection:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Line Crossing or Intrusion.

2. Select a camera and check Enable.

3. Click Draw Area to define the virtual line or region on the camera’s view.

4. Adjust parameters like Direction (for line crossing) and Sensitivity.

5. Set the Arming Schedule and Linkage Action as you did for motion detection.

6. Click Apply.

You must initialize a newly installed Hard Disk Drive (HDD) before use. You can then configure recording schedules.

Initialize an HDD:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage.

2. Select the HDD you want to initialize from the list.

3. Click Init. The HDD will be formatted, erasing all data on it.

Configure a Recording Schedule:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Schedule.

2. Select a camera from the Camera No. dropdown.

3. Check Enable.

4. To set a schedule, you can either:

• Click Edit. In the pop-up window, select a day (Weekday), check All Day and select a schedule type (e.g., Continuous, Event). Or, uncheck All Day to set up to 8 custom time periods for that day.

• Select a schedule type (Continuous or Event) below the timeline, and then drag the mouse across the timeline for the desired days and times to “paint” the schedule.

5. Click Apply.

Configure Recording Parameters:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Parameter.

2. Select a camera and choose whether to configure the Main Stream (for recording) or Sub-Stream (for remote view).

3. Set parameters like Resolution, Frame Rate, and Bitrate. Higher values result in better quality but use more storage space.

4. Click Apply.

To access more detailed settings, go to any Configuration page and click Expert Mode at the lower-left corner.

Example: Configuring Network Ports

1. Go to Configuration → Network → General → More Settings.

2. Here you can change default port numbers:

• Server Port: For remote client software access (Default: 8000).

• HTTP Port: For remote web browser access (Default: 80).

• RTSP Port: For streaming media (Default: 554).

3. You can also configure the Alarm Host IP/Port to send alarm messages to a remote client management system (CMS).

Example: Configuring Storage Overwrite

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Advanced Settings.

2. Configure the Overwrite setting:

• Disable: When the HDD is full, recording will stop.

• Enable: When the HDD is full, the recorder will continue to write new files by deleting the oldest files.

3. You can also Enable HDD Sleeping, which allows HDDs that are not in use to enter a low-power sleep state.

4. Click Apply to save changes.

Maintenance functions allow you to manage the system’s health and software.

Restore Default Settings:

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. Select the restoring type:

• Simple Restore: Restores all parameters to factory defaults, except for network and user account settings.

• Factory Defaults: Restores all parameters to factory defaults.

• Restore to Inactive: Restores the device to an inactive state, requiring activation again.

3. Click Yes. The device will reboot.

Local Firmware Upgrade:

1. Store the upgrade firmware file on a USB backup device and connect it to the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. In the Firmware section, select your backup device from Device Name.

4. Select the upgrade firmware file from the list.

5. Click Upgrade. The device will reboot automatically after the upgrade is complete. Do not power off the device during the upgrade.

Online Firmware Upgrade:

1. Ensure Guarding Vision is enabled and configured.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Go to Online Upgrade.

4. You can use Auto Download to automatically check and download the latest firmware, or Test Upgrade to manually check.

5. If a new firmware version is available, you can proceed with the upgrade. The device will reboot automatically.

You can access the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1 via web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome.

Login:

1. Open a web browser and enter the IP address of the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-F1 in the address bar, then press Enter. If you have changed the HTTP port, use the format: http://IP_address:HTTP_port (e.g., http://192.168.1.64:81).

2. Enter your user name and password in the login interface.

3. Click Login.

4. You may be prompted to install a plug-in for the first time. Follow the installation prompts. You may need to close the web browser to complete the installation.

Interface Overview:

After logging in, you will see a web interface with several tabs:

• Live View: Shows the live video feeds from your cameras. You can control PTZ functions from this page.

• Playback: Allows you to search for and play back recorded videos. You can select cameras, dates, and stream types.

• Configuration: Provides access to all the device settings, similar to the local monitor interface, including System, Network, Video/Audio, Event, etc.

• Log: Go to Maintenance → System → Maintenance → Log to search and view system logs.

Dual-Stream: A technology to record high-resolution video locally while transmitting a lower-resolution stream over the network.

DVR: Digital Video Recorder. A device that accepts video signals from analog cameras, compresses them, and stores them on hard drives.

HDD: Hard Disk Drive. A storage medium for digitally encoded data.

DHCP: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. A network protocol used by devices to automatically obtain IP addresses and other network information.

HTTP: Hypertext Transfer Protocol. A protocol for transferring information between servers and browsers over a network.

DDNS: Dynamic DNS. A service that allows a networked device to notify a domain name server of its changing IP address in real-time.

NTP: Network Time Protocol. A protocol designed to synchronize the clocks of computers over a network.

NTSC: An analog television standard used in countries like the United States and Japan, featuring 525 scan lines at 60Hz.

NVR: Network Video Recorder. A system for centralized management and storage for IP cameras.

PAL: An analog video standard used in many parts of the world, featuring 625 scan lines at 50Hz.

PTZ: Pan, Tilt, Zoom. Refers to motor-driven cameras that can pan left/right, tilt up/down, and zoom in/out.

USB: Universal Serial Bus. A standard for interfacing devices to a host computer.
