For first-time access, you need to activate the HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-F1-N video recorder by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation. You can also activate the video recorder via a web browser, SADP, or client software.

Before You Start:

Power on your device.

Steps:

1. Select a language.

2. Click Next.

3. Input the same password in the Password and Confirm Password fields. It is highly recommended to create a strong password of your own choosing (using a minimum of 8 characters, including at least three of the following categories: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special characters) to increase the security of your product.

4. Activate network camera(s) connected to the device.

– Check Use Device Password as Default to use the device password to activate the inactive network camera(s).

– Or, enter a password to activate network camera(s).

5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. If you forget your password, you can reset it by email.

1) Check Enable.

2) Enter an email address.

6. Click Activate.

The admin user can use an unlock pattern to log in. You can configure this after the device is activated.

Set Unlock Pattern:

1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. The pattern must have at least 4 dots, and each dot can only be connected once. Release the mouse when the pattern is done.

2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

Log in via Unlock Pattern:

1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface.

2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

Note: If you have forgotten your pattern, click Forgot My Pattern or Switch User to log in via password. If you draw the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal password login mode automatically.

If your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-F1-N video recorder has logged out, you must log in before operating the menu and other functions.

Steps:

1. Select a User Name from the dropdown list.

2. Input the password.

3. Click Login.

Note: When you forget the password of the admin, you can click Forgot Password to reset the password. If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the current user account will be locked for 60 seconds.

The Live View interface allows you to monitor your cameras in real-time.

Basic Operations:

• Click the auto-switch icon to start/stop auto-switch. The screen will automatically switch to the next one.

• Click the recording icon to start/stop all-day recording.

• Right-click a camera, or click the full-screen icon to enter full-screen mode.

• Double-click a camera to view it in single-screen mode. Double-click again to exit single-screen mode.

• Change a camera’s live view screen by dragging it to the desired screen.

• Scroll up/down to turn to the previous/next screen.

• Position the cursor on a camera to show the shortcut menu.

Shortcut Menu Description:

Live View Icon Description:

In the live view interface, icons at the upper-right corner of the screen for each camera show the camera’s recording and alarm status.

You must configure PTZ parameters before controlling a PTZ camera.

Steps:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ control icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click PTZ Parameter Settings.

3. Set the PTZ camera parameters. All parameters should be the same as the PTZ camera’s settings.

– For a Coaxitron camera/dome, you can select the PTZ protocol to UTC (Coaxitron).

– The AHD and HDCVI cameras support coaxitron control.

– Selecting the Coaxitron protocol will make other parameters unavailable (baud rate, data bit, etc.).

4. Click OK.

You can set up presets, patrols, and patterns for your PTZ camera through the PTZ control panel.

Customize Preset:

A preset is a saved location the PTZ camera points to.

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Select a desired preset number in the preset list.

3. Use the direction buttons, zoom, and focus to point the camera to the required location.

4. Click the ‘Set’ icon to save the preset. To call it, double-click the preset in the list.

Customize Patrol:

A patrol is a path consisting of a series of presets.

1. From the PTZ control panel, click Patrol.

2. Select a desired patrol and click Set.

3. Click ‘+’ to add a key point.

4. Configure the key point parameters: Key Point No. (corresponding preset), Duration (time to stay at the point), and Speed (speed to move to the next point).

5. Click Apply. To call the patrol, select it and click Call.

Customize Pattern:

A pattern records the exact movement path of the PTZ camera.

1. From the PTZ control panel, click Pattern.

2. Select a pattern and click Record.

3. Use the direction buttons, zoom, and focus to move the camera as desired. The path is recorded.

4. Click Stop Recording to save the pattern. To call the pattern, select it and click Call.

You can play back recorded videos from the Playback menu.

Steps:

1. Go to Playback.

2. Select a camera from the camera list on the left.

3. Select a date on the calendar for playback. A blue triangle at the corner of a date indicates available videos.

4. Optional: Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar for additional options.

Timeline Navigation:

• The timeline at the bottom shows recorded periods. A blue bar contains normal video, and a red bar indicates event video.

• Position the cursor on the timeline and drag it to a certain time.

• Scroll up/down on the timeline to zoom in/out.

Playback Interface Buttons:

The smart playback function analyzes video for motion detection, line crossing, or intrusion detection events to help you find relevant footage quickly.

Before You Start:

Ensure you have configured motion detection, line crossing, or intrusion detection rules and detection areas.

Steps:

1. Go to Playback.

2. Click Smart.

3. Select a camera.

4. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar.

5. Use the icons on the control bar to set detection areas for the smart event you want to search for (e.g., draw a line for line crossing, draw an area for motion or intrusion).

6. Click the play strategy icon to configure playback options:

– Do not Play Normal Videos: If enabled, videos without smart information will not be played.

– Normal Video: Set the playback speed for normal video (when ‘Do not Play’ is unchecked).

– Play Speed of Smart/Custom Video: Set the playback speed for videos with smart information.

You can clip videos during playback and export them to a backup device like a USB flash drive.

Before You Start:

Connect a backup device to your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-F1-N.

Steps:

1. Start playback of the desired video. Refer to the Normal Playback steps.

2. Click the ‘Clip’ icon (scissors) on the playback control bar.

3. Clip the video:

– Click the ‘Start Clipping’ icon, then move the timeline to the desired end point and click the ‘End Clipping’ icon. Click OK.

– Alternatively, drag on the time bar to select a time segment for clipping.

4. Click the ‘Export’ icon (looks like a file folder with an arrow).

5. Click Export to export the clip to the backup device.

You can search for files based on specific conditions and export them.

Search and Export Files:

1. Go to Search.

2. Set your search conditions (e.g., camera, time, event type).

3. Click Search.

4. From the search results:

– Click the play icon to play the video.

– Click the lock icon to lock the file. A locked file will not be overwritten.

– Select one or more files and click Export to export them to a backup device.

Quick Backup:

1. Connect a backup device to your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-F1-N.

2. Go to Search.

3. Set search conditions.

4. Click Quick Export.

5. Select the backup device and path.

6. Click OK to start exporting.

The default Administrator (admin) user has permission to add, delete, and edit other users. A Guest user has limited permissions for live view, playback, and log search.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → User.

2. Click Add and confirm your admin password.

3. Enter a User Name.

4. Enter the same password in the Password and Confirm fields. It’s recommended to use a strong password (8-16 characters with a combination of numbers, lowercase, uppercase, and special characters).

5. Select a User Level (e.g., Guest).

6. Click OK.

To edit an existing user, click the edit icon next to their name in the user list.

Motion detection enables the video recorder to detect moving objects in the monitored area and trigger alarms.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Motion Detection (in Easy Mode) or Configuration → Event → Normal Event → Motion Detection (in Expert Mode).

2. Select a camera.

3. Check Enable.

4. Click on the Area Settings tab and set the motion detection area:

– Full screen: Click Full Screen to set the entire view as the detection area.

– Customized area: Drag on the preview window to draw one or more detection areas.

– Clear: Click Clear to remove the current motion detection areas.

5. Adjust Sensitivity. This calibrates how readily movement triggers the alarm. A higher value results in more sensitive detection.

6. Click on the Arming Schedule tab to set the time periods when motion detection is active.

7. Click on the Linkage Action tab to set what happens when motion is detected (e.g., trigger recording, send an email).

8. Click Apply.

You can configure the HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-F1-N to automatically start and stop recording according to a schedule.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Schedule.

2. Select a camera from the Camera No. dropdown list.

3. Check Enable.

4. Configure the recording schedule using one of two methods:

– Drawing on the Grid: Click to select a schedule type (e.g., Continuous, Event). Then, on the timeline grid for each day, drag the mouse across the desired time periods to draw a colored bar representing that recording type.

– Using the Edit Menu:

a. Click Edit.

b. Select a day to configure in Weekday.

c. To set an all-day recording schedule, check All Day and select a schedule type.

d. To set specific time periods, uncheck All Day and set the Start/End Time and schedule type for up to 8 different periods. Time periods cannot overlap.

e. Click OK to save the settings for that day.

5. Click Apply to save the overall schedule.

A newly installed hard disk drive (HDD) must be initialized before it can be used to save videos and information.

Before You Start:

Install at least one HDD into your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-F1-N video recorder.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage.

2. Select the new HDD from the list. Its status will likely show as “Uninitialized”.

3. Click the Init button.

4. A confirmation prompt will appear, warning that all data on the disk will be erased. Confirm to proceed with initialization.

The process will format the drive, and once completed, the status will change to “Normal”, and it will be ready for recording.

You can upgrade your device’s firmware locally using a backup device or online.

Warning: Do not shut down or turn off the power during the upgrade process.

Local Upgrade:

1. Store the upgrade firmware file on a backup device (e.g., USB flash drive) and connect it to your device.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the folder icon next to Firmware.

4. Select your backup device in Device Name.

5. Select the upgrade firmware file from the list.

6. Click Upgrade. Your device will reboot automatically after the upgrade is complete.

Online Upgrade:

1. Ensure Guarding Vision is enabled and configured.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the ‘+’ icon.

4. Go to Online Upgrade.

5. The device will check for the latest firmware. You can use Auto Download to automatically check and download or Test Upgrade to manually check.

6. If a new firmware version is available, you will be prompted to upgrade. Proceed with the upgrade, and the device will reboot automatically.

You can restore your device’s settings through the Maintenance menu.

Steps:

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. Select the restoring type:

– Simple Restore: Restores all parameters to factory defaults, EXCEPT for network settings (IP address, subnet mask, gateway, etc.) and user account parameters.

– Factory Defaults: Restores ALL parameters to the factory default settings, including network and user information.

– Restore to Inactive: Restores the device to an inactive state, leaving all settings unchanged except for restoring user accounts. You will need to activate the device again.

3. Click Yes to confirm. The device will reboot automatically.

You can get access to the HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-F1-N via a web browser. Supported browsers include Internet Explorer 6.0 to 11.0, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, with a supported resolution of 1024×768 and above.

Steps:

1. Open a web browser and input the IP address of the video recorder, then press Enter.

– Note: If you have changed the HTTP port from the default (80), you must include it in the address. For example: http://192.168.1.64:81.

2. The first time you connect, you may be prompted to install a plug-in. Follow the installation prompts. You may need to close the web browser to complete the installation.

3. On the login page, enter your user name and password.

4. Click Login.

After logging in, you can access interfaces for Live View, Playback, Configuration, and Log search.

Dual-stream is a technology used on the HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-F1-N to record high-resolution video locally while simultaneously transmitting a lower-resolution stream over the network. The two streams are generated by the DVR, with the main stream having a maximum resolution of 1080P for recording, and the sub-stream having a maximum resolution of CIF for remote viewing, which helps conserve bandwidth.

HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol): An acronym for Hypertext Transfer Protocol. A protocol to transfer hypertext requests and information between servers and browsers over a network.

PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet): A network protocol for encapsulating Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) frames inside Ethernet frames. It is used mainly with ADSL services where individual users connect to the ADSL transceiver (modem) over Ethernet.

DDNS (Dynamic DNS): A method, protocol, or network service that provides the capability for a networked device, such as the DVR, to notify a domain name server to change, in real time, the active DNS configuration of its configured hostnames or addresses.

NTP (Network Time Protocol): An acronym for Network Time Protocol. A protocol designed to synchronize the clocks of computers over a network.

NTSC (National Television System Committee): An analog television standard used in countries such as the United States and Japan. Each frame of an NTSC signal contains 525 scan lines at 60Hz.
