For first-time access, you need to activate the HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N video recorder by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation.

Before you start, ensure your device is powered on.

Steps:

1. Select a language.

2. Click Next.

3. Input the same password in the Password and Confirm Password fields. It is highly recommended to create a strong password of your own choosing (using a minimum of 8 characters, including at least three of the following categories: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special characters) to increase the security of your product. Resetting the password regularly is also recommended.

4. Activate network camera(s) connected to the device. You can either check ‘Use Device Password as Default’ to use the device password to activate the inactive network camera(s) or enter a different password.

5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. This allows you to reset your password via email if you forget it. To do this, check ‘Enable’ and enter an email address.

6. Click Activate.

The admin user can use an unlock pattern to log in. You can configure this pattern after the device is activated.

Set Unlock Pattern

1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. Release the mouse when the pattern is done. Note that the pattern must have at least 4 dots, and each dot can be connected only once.

2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

Log in via Unlock Pattern

1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface.

2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

If you have forgotten your pattern, click ‘Forgot My Pattern’ or ‘Switch User’ to log in via password. If you draw the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal password login mode automatically.

If your HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N video recorder has logged out, you must log in before operating the menu and other functions.

Steps:

1. Select your User Name from the dropdown list on the Welcome screen.

2. Input your password.

3. Click Login.

Note: If you forget the admin password, you can click ‘Forgot Password’ to reset it. If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the current user account will be locked for 60 seconds.

The Live View screen on your HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N offers several navigation options:

• Click the auto-switch icon to start/stop automatically switching the screen to the next camera.

• Click the recording icon to start/stop all-day recording.

• Right-click a camera or click the full-screen icon to enter full-screen mode.

• Double-click a camera to view it in single-screen mode. Double-click again to exit single-screen mode.

• Change a camera’s position by dragging its live view screen to the desired screen.

• Scroll up/down with the mouse to turn to the previous/next screen.

• Position the cursor on a camera to show the shortcut menu.

In the live view interface, icons at the upper-right corner of each camera’s screen show the camera recording and alarm status.

You must configure PTZ parameters before controlling a PTZ camera with your HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N.

Configure PTZ Parameters

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click PTZ Parameter Settings.

3. Set the PTZ camera parameters. All parameters (Baud Rate, Data Bit, Stop Bit, Parity, Flow Ctrl, PTZ Protocol, Address) should be the same as the PTZ camera’s settings. For a Coaxitron camera/dome, you can select the PTZ protocol to UTC (Coaxitron). The AHD and HDCVI cameras also support coaxitron control. Selecting the Coaxitron protocol will make other parameters unavailable.

4. Click OK.

Customize Presets

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ icon.

2. Select a desired preset from the preset list.

3. Use the direction buttons to move the camera to the required location. Adjust zoom and focus as desired.

4. Click the ‘Set’ icon. To call a preset, double-click it in the list.

Customize Patrols

A patrol is a path consisting of a series of presets.

1. In the PTZ control menu, click Patrol.

2. Select a patrol and click Set.

3. Click ‘+’ to add a key point.

4. Configure key point parameters (Preset number, Duration, Speed). The preset number determines the order, Duration is the time to stay at the point, and Speed is the movement speed to the next point.

5. Click Apply. To start the patrol, select it and click Call.

Customize Patterns

A pattern records the movement path and dwell time.

1. In the PTZ control menu, click Pattern.

2. Select a pattern and click Record.

3. Use the direction buttons and other controls to move the camera as desired.

4. Click Stop Recording. To start the pattern, select it and click Call.

The HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N allows for normal playback, smart playback, and sub-periods playback.

Normal Playback

1. Go to Playback.

2. Select a camera from the camera list.

3. Select a date on the calendar for playback. A blue triangle at the corner of a date indicates available videos.

4. Position the cursor on the timeline and drag it to a certain time. A blue bar on the timeline indicates normal video, while a red bar indicates event video. You can scroll up/down to zoom in/out on the timeline.

5. Optional: Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar for functions like adding a tag, turning audio on/off, zooming, and locking/unlocking video.

Smart Playback

This function helps to skip less effective information by analyzing video for motion, line crossing, or intrusion detection. Before using, ensure these detection rules are configured.

1. Go to Playback and click Smart.

2. Select a camera.

3. Select a date.

4. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar. Use the icons to draw detection areas for motion, intrusion, or line crossing. This will filter the playback to show only relevant events.

5. Click the settings icon to configure the play strategy, such as choosing not to play normal videos or setting different playback speeds for normal and smart/custom video.

Sub-Periods Playback

This allows videos from a time period to be played in multiple sub-periods simultaneously.

1. Go to Playback and click Sub-periods.

2. Select a camera.

3. Set a start and end time.

4. Optional: Select a window division mode (4-Period, 9-Period, or 16-Period). The videos will be divided into equal segments and played simultaneously in the corresponding number of screens.

5. Click the play icon to start.

You can clip and export videos to a backup device (e.g., USB flash drive, USB HDD) during playback on your HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N.

Before you start, connect a backup device to your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Start playback of the desired video. Refer to the Normal Playback procedure for details.

2. Click the clip icon on the main playback control bar.

3. A timeline will appear. You can clip videos by either:

• Clicking the start time button, then the end time button, and clicking OK.

• Setting a time segment directly on the time bar for clipping.

4. Click the save/export icon.

5. Click Export to export the clip to your connected backup device.

You can search for files and perform a quick backup using the Search function on your HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N.

Search and Export Files

1. Go to Search.

2. Set your search conditions (e.g., camera, date, file type).

3. Click Search. A list of files will be displayed.

4. From the list, you can:

• Click the play icon to play the video.

• Click the lock icon to lock the file. A locked file will not be overwritten.

• Select one or more files and click Export to export them to a backup device.

Quick Backup

Before you start, connect a backup device to your video recorder.

1. Go to Search.

2. Set the search conditions for the files you want to back up.

3. Click Quick Export.

4. Select the backup device and path.

5. Click OK to start exporting.

You can configure general system settings such as output resolution, system time, and more on your HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N.

Steps in Easy Mode:

1. Go to Configuration → System → General.

2. Configure the parameters as desired:

• Enable Wizard: The setup wizard will pop up after the device starts up.

• Enable Password: Requires password authentication if the device automatically logs out.

• Enable NTP: Allows the device to connect to a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server to sync time.

• Interval (min): The time interval between time synchronizations with the NTP server.

• NTP Server: The IP address of the NTP server.

• NTP Port: The port of the NTP server.

• Other settings include System Date, System Time, and Resolution.

3. Click Apply.

Steps in Expert Mode:

1. Go to Configuration → System → General.

2. Configure parameters as desired:

• Language: Set the display language.

• Device Name: Edit the video recorder name.

• Device No.: Set the serial number (1-255) for connection with remote control or network keyboard.

• Auto Log Out: Set the timeout time for menu inactivity.

• Menu Output Mode: Choose the output to display the local menu.

• VGA/HDMI Resolution: Select the output resolution, which must match the display’s resolution.

• Output Standard: Select CVBS output standard as PAL or NTSC.

• Mouse Pointer Speed: Set the speed of the mouse pointer (4 levels).

3. Click Apply.

The HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N has a default administrator account named ‘admin’ which has permission to add, delete, and edit other users. Guest users only have live view, playback, and log search permission.

Add a User

1. Go to Configuration → User.

2. Click Add and confirm your admin password.

3. Enter a User Name.

4. Enter the same password in the Password and Confirm fields. It is highly recommended to create a strong password.

5. Select a User Level (e.g., Guest). Normal users only have live view, playback, and log search permission.

6. Click OK.

You can click the edit icon next to a user to edit their details.

Set Password Resetting Email

This allows the device to send a verification code to your email for password resetting.

1. Go to Configuration → User.

2. Click Password Resetting Email.

3. Enter the admin password for authorization.

4. Enter an email address.

5. Click OK.

Reset Password

If you forget your login pattern and password, you can reset it.

1. Click Forgot Password at the password login interface.

2. Follow the wizard to reset the password.

You must properly configure the network settings before operating the HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N over a network.

General Network Settings (TCP/IP)

1. Go to Configuration → Network → General (in Easy Mode) or Configuration → Network → General → TCP/IP (in Expert Mode).

2. Set the network parameters:

• DHCP: If a DHCP server is available, you can check ‘Enable DHCP’ to automatically obtain an IP address and other network settings.

• Obtain DNS Automatically: If DHCP is checked, you can check this to automatically obtain Preferred and Alternate DNS Server addresses.

• If not using DHCP, manually enter the IPv4 Address, IPv4 Subnet Mask, and IPv4 Default Gateway.

3. Click Apply.

Port Settings (Expert Mode)

Go to Configuration → Network → General → More Settings to configure various ports:

• Server Port: For remote client software access. Default is 8000.

• HTTP Port: For remote web browser access. Default is 80.

• Multicast IP: To enable live view for more cameras than the maximum allowed through unicast network connection.

• RTSP Port: For controlling streaming media servers. Default is 554.

DDNS Settings (Expert Mode)

Dynamic Domain Name Server (DDNS) maps dynamic IP addresses to a fixed domain name.

1. Register a DDNS service (e.g., DynDNS, PeanutHull, NO-IP) with your ISP.

2. Go to Configuration → Network → General → DDNS.

3. Check Enable.

4. Select a DDNS type and enter the required parameters (service address, domain name, etc.).

5. Click Apply. You can view the status in the Status field.

Guarding Vision provides a mobile phone application and platform service for remote access to your HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Network → Platform Access.

2. Select the Access Type as Guarding Vision.

3. Check Enable. The service terms will pop up.

1) Scan the QR code to read the service terms and privacy statement.

2) Check ‘I have read and agree to Service Terms and Privacy Statement’ if you agree.

3) Click OK.

4. Optional: Check Stream Encryption. This requires a verification code for remote access and live view.

5. Optional: Check Custom and edit the Server Address if needed.

6. Enter a code in Verification Code. You can click Refresh to randomly generate one.

7. Click Apply.

After setup, you can access your video recorder via the Guarding Vision app. Scan the first QR code on the Platform Access screen to download the app. Then, open the app and scan the second QR code to add your video recorder.

You can add, activate, and edit network cameras on your HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N.

Activate a Network Camera

Only activated network cameras can be added.

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. The Security column shows if a camera is active. Click ‘Inactive’ for a desired camera.

3. Set the camera password. You can either check ‘Use Channel Default Password’ to use a pre-set default or customize a password by entering it in the Password and Confirm fields.

4. Click OK.

Add a Network Camera Manually

1. Ensure the camera is on the same network segment, the connection is valid, and the camera is activated.

2. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

3. Click the ‘+’ (Add) button.

4. Set the network camera parameters, including IP address, protocol, and management port. You can check ‘Use IPC Active Password’ to use the device password to add the camera.

5. Optional: Click Add More to add another camera.

6. Click OK.

Add a Network Camera by Device Password

This method adds cameras that have the same password as your video recorder.

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera. Online cameras on the same network segment are displayed.

2. Click the ‘+’ icon next to the camera you want to add.

Edit a Connected Network Camera

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. Click the edit icon for the selected camera.

3. You can edit the IP address, protocol, and other parameters. If the connected device has multiple channels, you can select the Channel Port No.

4. Click OK.

Your HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N can be configured to detect various smart events and trigger alarms or other actions.

Motion Detection

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Motion Detection.

2. Select a camera.

3. Check Enable.

4. Set the motion detection area. You can click ‘Full Screen’ or drag on the preview window to draw custom areas. ‘Clear’ removes the drawn areas.

5. Adjust Sensitivity. A higher value makes the alarm more sensitive to movement.

6. Set the Arming Schedule to define when the detection is active.

7. Set Linkage Actions (e.g., audible warning, send email, trigger recording).

8. Click Apply.

Intrusion Detection

Detects objects entering and loitering in a pre-defined virtual region.

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Intrusion.

2. Select a camera and check Enable Intrusion Detection.

3. Set detection rules: select an Arming Area (up to 4), set Sensitivity, and click ‘Draw Area’ to draw a quadrilateral detection region.

4. Set the Arming Schedule and Linkage Actions.

5. Click Apply.

Line Crossing Detection

Detects objects crossing a set virtual line.

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Line Crossing.

2. Select a camera.

3. Set detection rules: select an Arming Area (up to 4), select the detection Direction (A<->B for bidirectional, A->B or B->A for one-way), set Sensitivity, and click ‘Draw Area’ to set two points to draw the virtual line.

4. Set the Arming Schedule and Linkage Actions.

5. Click Apply.

Managing recording involves initializing the hard disk drive (HDD), configuring recording schedules, and setting recording parameters.

Initialize HDD

A new HDD must be initialized before use.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage.

2. Select an HDD from the list.

3. Click Init.

Configure Recording Schedule

The video recorder will automatically start/stop recording according to the schedule.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Schedule.

2. Select a camera from the Camera No. dropdown.

3. Check Enable.

4. Configure the schedule: you can click ‘Edit’ to set up to 8 time periods for each day of the week, defining whether the recording is Continuous or Event-triggered. Alternatively, you can click on the Continuous or Event color key and then drag the mouse across the timeline grid for the desired days and times.

5. Click Apply.

Configure Recording Parameters

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Parameter.

2. Configure parameters for both the Main Stream (for recording) and Sub-Stream (for remote viewing). Settings include:

• Resolution: The level of detail in the image.

• Frame Rate: The number of frames captured per second.

• Bitrate: Defines the data rate of the video stream.

Higher resolution, frame rate, and bitrate result in better video quality but use more storage space and bandwidth.

3. Click Apply.

You can manage storage by organizing HDDs into groups or by allocating specific storage quotas to each camera on your HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N.

Configure HDD Groups

This allows video from specified channels to be recorded onto a particular HDD group.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage Mode.

2. Select Mode as Group.

3. Select a group number.

4. Check the cameras you want to record on this HDD group.

5. Click Apply.

6. Reboot the video recorder to activate the new settings.

7. After reboot, go to Configuration → Record → Storage. Click the settings icon of the desired HDD to assign it to the group number you configured.

Configure HDD Quota

This allocates a specific amount of storage for each camera’s videos and pictures.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage Mode.

2. Select Mode as Quota.

3. Select a camera to set the quota for.

4. Enter the storage capacity in the fields for Max. Record Capacity (GB) and Max. Picture Capacity (GB).

5. Click Apply.

6. Reboot the video recorder to activate the new settings.

Note: When the quota capacity is set to 0, all cameras will use the total capacity of the HDD.

You can perform various maintenance tasks from the Maintenance menu on your HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N.

Restore Default Settings

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. Select the restoring type:

• Simple Restore: Restores all parameters to factory defaults, except for network and user account parameters.

• Factory Defaults: Restores all parameters to factory default settings.

• Restore to Inactive: Restores the device to an inactive state, leaving all settings unchanged except for user accounts.

3. Click Yes. The device will reboot automatically.

Local Firmware Upgrade

1. Store the upgrade firmware file on a backup device (like a USB drive) and connect it to your device.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the settings icon next to Firmware.

4. Select your backup device in Device Name.

5. Select the upgrade firmware file.

6. Click Upgrade. Your device will reboot automatically. Do not power off the device during the upgrade.

Online Firmware Upgrade

1. Ensure Guarding Vision is enabled and configured.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the ‘+’ icon.

4. Go to Online Upgrade.

5. You can choose ‘Auto Download’ to automatically check for and download the latest firmware, or ‘Test Upgrade’ to manually check.

6. If a new firmware version is available, the device will prompt you to upgrade. The device will reboot automatically after the upgrade.

You can access your HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1-N using a web browser such as Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome, with a supported resolution of 1024×768 and above.

Login

1. Open a web browser and input the IP address of the video recorder, then press Enter. If you have changed the HTTP port from the default 80, you must enter it as well (e.g., http://192.168.1.64:81).

2. Enter your user name and password in the login interface.

3. Click Login.

4. If it is your first time logging in, follow the installation prompts to install the required plug-in. You may need to close the web browser to complete the installation.

Web Interface Operation

After logging in, you will be presented with a web interface that typically includes the following sections:

• Live View: Shows the live video feeds from your cameras. You can control PTZ cameras from this screen.

• Playback: Click the Playback tab to enter the playback interface. Here you can search for and play back recorded videos by selecting a channel, date, and time.

• Configuration: Click the Configuration tab to access all the settings for your device, similar to the local menu. You can configure system, network, video, event, and storage settings here.

• Log: You can search and view system logs by going to Maintenance → System → Maintenance → Log.
