For first-time access, you must activate the HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-K1-R by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation.

Before You Start:

Power on your device.

Steps:

1. Select a language.

2. Click Next.

3. Input the same password in the Password and Confirm Password fields. We highly recommend creating a strong password of your own choosing (using a minimum of 8 characters, including at least three of the following categories: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special characters) to increase the security of your product.

4. Activate network camera(s) connected to the device.

– Check Use Device Password as Default to use the device password to activate inactive network camera(s).

– Or, enter a password to activate network camera(s).

5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. If you forget your password, you can reset it by email.

1) Check Enable.

2) Enter an email address.

6. Click Activate.

The admin user can use an unlock pattern to log in. You can configure this after the device is activated.

Set Unlock Pattern:

1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. Release the mouse when the pattern is done.

– The pattern must have at least 4 dots.

– Each dot can be connected only once.

2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

Log in via Unlock Pattern:

1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface.

2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

Note: If you have forgotten your pattern, click Forgot My Pattern or Switch User to log in via password. If you draw the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal password login mode automatically.

If your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-K1-R has logged out, you must log in before operating the menu and other functions.

Steps:

1. Select a User Name from the dropdown list on the login screen.

2. Input the password for the selected user.

3. Click Login.

Note: If you forget the admin password, you can click Forgot Password to reset it. If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the user account will be locked for 60 seconds.

The Live View interface on your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-K1-R provides several controls for viewing and managing your cameras.

General Operations:

– Click the auto-switch icon to start/stop automatically switching between camera screens.

– Click the record icon to start/stop all-day recording for all cameras.

– Right-click a camera or click the full-screen icon to enter full-screen mode.

– Double-click a camera to view it in single-screen mode. Double-click again to exit.

– Drag a camera’s live view screen to another screen to change its position.

– Scroll up/down with your mouse to switch to the previous/next screen.

– Position the cursor over a camera to show its shortcut menu.

Shortcut Menu Description:

Live View Icon Description:

In the live view interface, icons at the upper-right corner of each camera screen show the camera’s status.

You can configure and control a PTZ camera from the live view interface of your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-K1-R.

1. Configure PTZ Parameters:

1. In live view, click the PTZ control icon on the camera’s shortcut menu.

2. Click PTZ Parameter Settings.

3. Set the PTZ camera parameters such as Baud Rate, Data Bit, Stop Bit, Parity, and PTZ Protocol to match the PTZ camera’s settings. For Coaxitron cameras, select the PTZ protocol to UTC (Coaxitron).

4. Click OK.

3. Customize Presets:

1. From the PTZ control panel, select a desired preset number from the list.

2. Use the direction buttons and zoom/focus controls to move the camera to the desired location.

3. Click the save icon to set the preset. To call a preset, double-click it in the list.

4. Customize Patrols:

1. In the PTZ control panel, click the Patrol tab.

2. Select a patrol number and click Set.

3. Click + to add a key point. A key point corresponds to a preset.

4. Configure the key point number (preset), duration (time to stay at the point), and speed (speed of movement to the next point).

5. Click Apply. To run a patrol, select it and click Call.

5. Customize Patterns:

1. In the PTZ control panel, click the Pattern tab.

2. Select a pattern number and click Record.

3. Use the PTZ controls to move the camera along a desired path.

4. Click Stop Recording. The camera’s movement path is saved as a pattern. To run a pattern, select it and click Call.

You can play back normal, smart, and sub-period videos from the Playback menu.

Normal Playback:

1. Go to Playback.

2. Select a camera from the camera list.

3. Select a date on the calendar. Dates with a blue triangle have available videos.

4. Use the timeline at the bottom to navigate. Blue bars indicate continuous video, and red bars indicate event video.

– Position the cursor on the timeline and drag it to a specific time.

– Scroll up/down to zoom in/out on the timeline.

5. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar for actions like adding tags, turning on/off audio, and digital zoom.

Smart Playback:

This function analyzes video for motion, line crossing, or intrusion events, allowing you to skip less effective information.

1. Go to Playback and click the Smart tab.

2. Select a camera.

3. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar. Use the icons to draw detection areas for motion, intrusion, or line crossing to filter the playback.

4. Click the settings icon to configure the play strategy, such as choosing not to play normal videos or setting different playback speeds for smart and normal videos.

Sub-Periods Playback:

This allows you to play videos from multiple sub-periods simultaneously.

1. Go to Playback and click the Sub-periods tab.

2. Select a camera.

3. Set a start and end time.

4. Select a window division mode (e.g., 4-Period, 9-Period).

5. Click the play icon. The videos from the selected time range will be divided into equal segments and played simultaneously in the selected window division.

You can create and export video clips to a backup device (like a USB flash drive) during playback.

Before You Start:

Connect a backup device to your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Start playback for the desired camera and time. (Refer to Normal Playback instructions).

2. On the main playback control bar, click the Clip icon.

3. Clip the video using one of these methods:

– Click the start time icon, then the end time icon, and click OK.

– Drag the sliders on the time bar to define the start and end of the segment you want to clip.

4. Click the Backup icon that appears after clipping.

5. Click Export to save the clip to your backup device.

You can search for files based on various conditions and export them to a backup device.

Search and Export Files:

1. Go to Search from the main menu.

2. Set your search conditions, such as camera, start/end time, and file type.

3. Click Search.

4. From the results list, you can:

– Click the play icon to play the video.

– Click the lock icon to lock the file. Locked files will not be overwritten.

– Select one or more files and click Export to save them to a connected backup device.

Quick Backup:

This allows for a faster export process.

Before You Start:

Connect a backup device to your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Go to Search.

2. Set your search conditions.

3. Click Quick Export.

4. Select the backup device and path.

5. Click OK to start exporting.

Easy Mode contains basic configurations for your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-K1-R. To access it, go to Configuration and click Easy Mode.

System Configuration (General):

Go to Configuration → System → General.

Here you can configure:

– System Date/Time: Manually set the date and time.

– Resolution: Set the output resolution for your display.

– Enable Wizard: The setup wizard will pop up after the device starts up.

– Enable Password: Requires password authentication if the device automatically logs out.

– Enable NTP: Use Network Time Protocol to sync time with an NTP server. You can set the server address, port, and update interval.

Click Apply to save changes.

User Management:

Go to Configuration → User.

– To add a user, click Add, enter a user name and password, assign a User Level (Guest or Operator), and click OK.

– To set a password resetting email, click Password Resetting Email, enter the admin password for authorization, enter an email address, and click OK.

Exception Handling:

Go to Configuration → System → Exception.

You can set up linkage actions for exceptions like HDD Full, HDD Error, Network Disconnected, etc. Select an Exception Type and choose a Normal Linkage (e.g., Audible Warning, Send Email) or Trigger Alarm Output.

You must properly configure network settings to operate the device over a network.

Network General Settings:

1. Go to Configuration → Network → General.

2. Set network parameters. You can check Enable DHCP to automatically obtain an IP address if a DHCP server is available. Otherwise, manually enter the IPv4 Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway.

3. Click Apply.

Guarding Vision Setup (Platform Access):

Guarding Vision provides a mobile app and platform service for remote access.

1. Go to Configuration → Network → Platform Access.

2. Select Access Type as Guarding Vision.

3. Check Enable. Read and agree to the service terms.

4. Optional: Check Stream Encryption to require a verification code for remote access.

5. Enter a Verification Code. You can click Refresh to generate one randomly.

6. Click Apply.

What to do next: You can now access your video recorder via the Guarding Vision app. Scan the first QR code on the screen to download the app. Open the app and scan the second QR code to add your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-K1-R.

You can configure signal inputs, add network cameras, and adjust OSD settings.

Configure Signal Input:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Analog.

2. For each channel, select the signal input type as HD/CVBS (for analog cameras like Turbo HD, AHD, etc.) or IP (for network cameras).

3. Click Apply.

Add Network Camera:

1. Ensure the network camera is on the same network segment as your video recorder.

2. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

3. If the camera is inactive, click Inactive, and set a password to activate it.

4. To add an activated camera from the list of online devices, click the + icon next to it.

5. To add a camera manually, click Add and enter the camera’s IP address, protocol, and other parameters. Click OK.

OSD (On-Screen Display) Settings:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → OSD.

2. Select a camera.

3. Configure OSD settings, such as checking boxes to display Camera Name, Date, and Week. Set the Date Format and Time Format.

4. Drag the text frames in the preview window to adjust their position on the screen.

5. Click Apply.

Your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-K1-R supports various smart events to trigger alarms and recordings.

Motion Detection:

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Motion Detection.

2. Select a camera.

3. Check Enable.

4. In the Area Settings tab, set the motion detection area. You can click Full Screen or drag the mouse on the preview window to draw a custom area.

5. Adjust the Sensitivity. A higher value makes the alarm trigger more readily.

6. Go to the Arming Schedule tab to set the time periods when motion detection is active.

7. Go to the Linkage Action tab to configure actions like Audible Warning, Send Email, or Trigger Recording Channel when motion is detected.

8. Click Apply.

Intrusion Detection:

This detects objects that enter and loiter in a pre-defined virtual region.

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Intrusion.

2. Select a camera and check Enable Intrusion Detection.

3. Click Draw Area to draw a quadrilateral detection region.

4. Set Sensitivity and configure the Arming Schedule and Linkage Actions as needed.

5. Click Apply.

Line Crossing Detection:

This detects objects crossing a pre-defined virtual line.

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Line Crossing.

2. Select a camera and set up the line crossing rules.

3. Click Draw Area and set two points in the preview window to draw a virtual line.

4. Select the detection Direction (e.g., A<->B for both directions, A->B for one direction).

5. Set Sensitivity and configure the Arming Schedule and Linkage Actions.

6. Click Apply.

Properly managing storage and recording schedules is key to using your DVR effectively.

Initialize an HDD:

A newly installed Hard Disk Drive (HDD) must be initialized before use.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage.

2. Select an HDD from the list.

3. Click Init.

Configure Recording Schedule:

The DVR will start/stop recording automatically based on the schedule.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Schedule.

2. Select a camera from the Camera No. dropdown.

3. Check Enable.

4. Configure the schedule:

– Click Edit. Select a weekday. To set an all-day schedule, check All Day and select the schedule type (e.g., Continuous, Event). For specific time periods, uncheck All Day and set Start/End times.

– Alternatively, select a schedule type (Continuous or Event) and drag the mouse on the timeline for each day to draw colored bars representing the schedule.

5. Click Apply.

Configure Recording Parameters:

You can set the video quality for recordings.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Parameter.

2. For the selected camera, configure the Main Stream (for recording) and Sub-Stream (for remote viewing) parameters, including Resolution, Frame Rate, and Bitrate.

3. Higher resolution, frame rate, and bitrate result in better video quality but use more storage space.

4. Click Apply.

You can manage system maintenance tasks from the Maintenance menu.

Restore Default Settings:

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. Select the restoring type:

– Simple Restore: Restores all parameters except network and user account settings.

– Factory Defaults: Restores all parameters to factory default settings.

– Restore to Inactive: Restores the device to an inactive state, requiring activation again.

3. Click Yes. The device will reboot automatically.

Local Firmware Upgrade:

Do not shut down or turn off the power during an upgrade.

Before You Start:

Store the upgrade firmware file on a backup device (e.g., USB flash drive) and connect it to your DVR.

Steps:

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. In the Firmware section, select your backup device from the Device Name dropdown.

3. Select the upgrade firmware file from the list.

4. Click Upgrade. Your device will reboot automatically after the upgrade is complete.

Online Firmware Upgrade:

1. Ensure Guarding Vision is enabled and configured.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click Online Upgrade.

4. You can use Auto Download to automatically check for and download the latest firmware, or Test Upgrade to manually check.

5. If a new firmware version is available, you can proceed to upgrade the device. It will reboot automatically.

You can access and manage your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-K1-R using a web browser.

Supported Browsers:

Internet Explorer 6.0 to 11.0, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome. Supported resolution is 1024×768 and above.

Steps to Log In:

1. Open a web browser and enter the IP address of your video recorder in the address bar, then press Enter. If you have changed the HTTP port from the default (80), you must include it (e.g., http://192.168.1.64:81).

2. The first time you connect, you may be prompted to install a plug-in. Follow the on-screen instructions. You may need to close the web browser to complete the installation.

3. On the login page, enter your user name and password.

4. Click Login.

After logging in, you will have access to interfaces for Live View, Playback, Configuration, and viewing the Log.
