For first-time access, you must activate the HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-F2 by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation. You can also activate the video recorder via web browser, SADP, or client software.

Before you start, power on your device.

Steps:

1. Select a language.

2. Click Next.

3. Input the same password in the Password and Confirm Password fields.

It is highly recommended to create a strong password of your own choosing (using a minimum of 8 characters, including at least three of the following categories: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special characters) to increase the security of your product. Resetting your password monthly or weekly can better protect your product.

4. Activate network camera(s) connected to the device.

– Check “Use Device Password as Default” to use the device password to activate inactive network cameras.

– Or, enter a password to activate network cameras.

5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. If you forget your password, you can reset it by email.

1) Check Enable.

2) Enter an email address.

6. Click Activate.

The admin user can use an unlock pattern to log in. You can configure the unlock pattern after the device is activated.

Steps:

1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. Release the mouse when the pattern is done.

Note:

The pattern must have at least 4 dots.

Each dot can be connected only once.

2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

Steps:

1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface.

2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

Note:

If you have forgotten your pattern, you can click “Forgot My Pattern” or “Switch User” to log in via password.

If you have drawn the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal login mode automatically.

If your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-F2 has logged out, you must log in before operating the menu and other functions.

Steps:

1. Select your User Name.

2. Input your password.

3. Click Login.

Note:

If you forget the admin password, you can click “Forgot Password” to reset it.

If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the current user account will be locked for 60 seconds.

Position the cursor on a camera in live view to show the shortcut menu. The functions are described below:

You must configure PTZ parameters before controlling a PTZ camera.

Steps:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ Control icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click PTZ Parameter Settings.

3. Set the PTZ camera parameters, such as Baud Rate, Data Bit, Stop Bit, Parity, Flow Ctrl, PTZ Protocol, and Address.

Note:

All parameters should be the same as the PTZ camera.

For a Coaxitron camera/dome, you can select the PTZ protocol to UTC (Coaxitron). Ensure the selected protocol is supported by the connected camera/dome.

The AHD and HDCVI cameras support coaxitron control.

Selecting the Coaxitron protocol will make other parameters unavailable, including baud rate, data bit, stop bit, parity, and flow control.

4. Click OK.

The PTZ control panel allows you to control the movement of a PTZ camera.

Set a preset location where the PTZ camera will point when an event occurs.

Steps:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ control icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Select a desired preset in the preset list.

3. Use the direction buttons to move the camera to the required location. Adjust zoom and focus as desired.

4. Click the save/set icon.

To call a preset, double-click a preset in the preset list.

A patrol is a path consisting of a series of presets in a designated sequence.

Steps:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ control icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click Patrol.

3. Select a desired patrol.

4. Click Set.

5. Click the “+” icon to add a key point.

6. Configure key point parameters, such as the key point No. (corresponding to a preset), Duration (time to stay at the point), and Speed (speed to move to the next point).

7. Click Apply.

To start a patrol, select a patrol and click Call. The PTZ camera will move according to the predefined patrol path.

A pattern records the movement path and dwell time of a PTZ camera.

Steps:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ control icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click Pattern.

3. Select a pattern.

4. Click Record.

5. Use the direction buttons to move the camera to required locations. Adjust zoom and focus as desired.

6. Click Stop Recording. The PTZ camera’s movement path is now recorded as a pattern.

To start a pattern, select a pattern and click Call. The PTZ camera will move according to the predefined pattern.

Steps:

1. Go to Playback.

2. Select a camera from the camera list.

3. Select a date on the calendar for playback. A blue triangle at the corner of a date indicates available videos.

4. Optional: Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar for functions like adding a tag, turning audio on/off, zooming, and locking the video.

Timeline Navigation:

Position the cursor on the timeline and drag it to a certain time.

The blue bar on the timeline indicates normal video, and the red bar indicates event video.

Scroll up/down on the timeline to zoom in/out.

Smart playback analyzes video for motion detection, line crossing detection, or intrusion detection information to help you quickly find relevant footage.

Before You Start: Ensure you have configured motion detection, line crossing detection, or intrusion detection rules and areas.

Steps:

1. Go to Playback.

2. Click Smart.

3. Select a camera.

4. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar.

5. Use the icons on the control bar to set detection areas for the smart event:

– For motion detection: Click the appropriate icon and draw the detection area.

– For line crossing detection: Click the appropriate icon and draw the detection line.

– For intrusion detection: Click the appropriate icon and draw the detection area.

6. Click the play strategy icon to configure playback options. You can choose to not play normal videos, and set the playback speed for normal and smart/custom videos.

This feature allows you to play videos from multiple sub-periods simultaneously.

Steps:

1. Go to Playback.

2. Click Sub-periods.

3. Select a camera.

4. Set a start and end time.

5. Optional: Select a window division mode as 4-Period, 9-Period, or 16-Period. Videos will be divided into 4, 6, or 9 equal segments accordingly.

6. Click the search icon. The videos will be divided and played simultaneously in the selected number of screens.

You can clip videos during playback and export them to a backup device (USB flash drive, USB HDD, etc.).

Before You Start: Connect a backup device to your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Start playback as described in the Normal Playback section.

2. Click the Clip icon.

3. Clip the video:

– Click the start time icon, set the start and end time, and click OK.

– Alternatively, set a time segment directly on the time bar for clipping.

4. Click the Clip icon again to confirm the clip.

5. Click Export to export the clip to the connected backup device.

Steps:

1. Go to Search.

2. Set your search conditions (e.g., date, camera).

3. Click Search.

A list of files will be displayed. From here you can:

– Click the play icon to play the video.

– Click the lock icon to lock the file. Locked files will not be overwritten.

– Select one or more files and click Export to export them to a backup device.

Before You Start: Connect a backup device to your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Go to Search.

2. Set your search conditions.

3. Click Quick Export.

4. Select the backup device and path.

5. Click OK to start exporting.

The device has a default administrator account named “admin”. The administrator can add, delete, and edit other users. Guest users only have live view, playback, and log search permissions.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration -> User.

2. Click Add and confirm your admin password.

3. Enter a user name.

4. Enter the same password in the Password and Confirm fields.

5. Click OK.

You can also click the edit icon next to a user to edit their details.

Guarding Vision provides a mobile phone application and platform service to access and manage your device remotely.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration -> Network -> Platform Access.

2. Select Access Type as Guarding Vision.

3. Check Enable. The service terms will pop up.

1) Scan the QR code to read the service terms and privacy statement.

2) Check “I have read and agree to Service Terms and Privacy Statement” if you agree.

3) Click OK.

4. Optional: Check Stream Encryption. This requires entering a verification code for remote access and live view.

5. Optional: Check Custom and edit the Server Address if needed.

6. Enter a code in Verification Code. You can click Refresh to randomly generate one.

7. Click Apply.

After setup, you can access your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-F2 via the Guarding Vision app by scanning the second QR code to add your device.

Set up an email account to receive event notifications.

Before You Start:

Ensure your recorder is on a local area network with an SMTP mail server.

Configure your network parameters under the General network settings.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration -> Network -> Email.

2. Set the email parameters:

– Server Authentication: (Optional) Check to enable server authentication and enter the User Name and Password for the sender’s email account.

– SSL/TLS: (Optional) Check to enable SSL/TLS if required by the SMTP server.

– Sender: The sender’s name.

– Sender’s Address: The sender’s email address.

– Select Receiver: Select a receiver (up to 3 are available).

– Receiver: The receiver’s name.

– Receiver’s Address: The receiver’s email address.

3. Click Apply.

Only activated network cameras can be added.

Activate a Network Camera:

1. Go to Configuration -> Camera -> IP Camera. The “Security” column shows if a camera is active.

2. Click “Inactive” for the desired camera.

3. Set the camera password. You can either check “Use Channel Default Password” to use the recorder’s password or enter a custom password in the Password and Confirm fields.

4. Click OK.

Add a Network Camera Manually:

1. Go to Configuration -> Camera -> IP Camera.

2. Click the “+” icon.

3. Set the network camera parameters, including IP address, protocol, management port, etc. You can check “Use IPC Active Password” to use the device password to add the camera.

4. Optional: Click “Add More” to add another network camera.

5. Click OK.

Motion detection enables the recorder to detect moving objects and trigger alarms.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration -> Camera -> Smart Event -> Motion Detection.

2. Select a camera.

3. Check Enable.

4. Set the motion detection area:

– Full screen: Click “Full Screen” to set the entire view as the detection area.

– Customized area: Drag on the preview window to draw specific motion detection areas.

– Clear: Click “Clear” to remove the current motion detection areas.

5. Adjust Sensitivity. A higher value makes the alarm more sensitive to movement.

6. Set the arming schedule to define when motion detection is active.

7. Set the linkage actions (e.g., trigger recording, send email) that should occur when motion is detected.

8. Click Apply.

A newly installed HDD must be initialized before it can be used to save videos and information.

Before You Start: Install at least one HDD into your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-F2.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration -> Record -> Storage.

2. Select the HDD you want to initialize from the list.

3. Click Init.

The HDD will be formatted, and all existing data will be erased.

The recorder will automatically start/stop recording according to the configured schedule.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration -> Record -> Schedule.

2. Select a camera in the “Camera No.” dropdown.

3. Check Enable.

4. Configure the schedule:

– To configure by day: Click Edit. Select a day in Weekday. To set an all-day schedule, check “All Day” and select the schedule type (e.g., Continuous, Event). For specific times, uncheck “All Day” and set the Start/End Time and schedule type. You can set up to 8 periods per day. Click OK.

– To draw on the schedule: Select a schedule type (Continuous or Event) and drag the mouse on the timeline for the desired day to draw a colored bar representing that recording type.

5. Click Apply.

Cloud storage allows you to upload and download videos from a cloud service.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration -> Record -> Cloud Storage.

2. Check Enable Cloud.

3. Select the Cloud Type (e.g., GoogleDrive).

4. Scan the QR code with a scanner app to log into the selected cloud service and get an authorization code.

5. Enter the received code into the Authentication Code field.

6. Click Apply. After about 20 seconds, the status should change to Online.

7. Configure the event recording schedule for the cameras you want to upload.

8. To upload event-triggered videos:

1) Select the Camera that has a recording schedule set.

2) Select the Upload Type (only Record is allowed).

3) Check Enable Event Upload.

4) Click Apply.

Note: Only sub-stream videos can be uploaded to cloud storage.

Steps:

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. Select the restoring type:

– Simple Restore: Restores all parameters to factory defaults, except for network settings (IP address, subnet mask, etc.) and user accounts.

– Factory Defaults: Restores all parameters to the factory default settings.

– Restore to Inactive: Restores the device to an inactive status, leaving all settings unchanged except for restoring user accounts.

3. Click Yes. The device will reboot automatically.

Do not shut down or turn off the power during the upgrade process.

Local Upgrade:

1. Store the upgrade firmware file on a backup device (like a USB drive) and connect it to your recorder.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the folder icon next to Firmware.

4. Select your backup device in Device Name.

5. Select the upgrade firmware file.

6. Click Upgrade. Your device will reboot automatically after the upgrade is complete.

Online Upgrade:

1. Ensure Guarding Vision is enabled and configured.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the cloud icon (+).

4. Go to Online Upgrade.

5. Download the latest firmware. You can use “Auto Download” to automatically check and download, or “Test Upgrade” to manually check and download.

6. Upgrade your device if a new firmware version is available. The device will reboot automatically.

You can access the recorder via web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome.

Steps:

1. Open a web browser, type the IP address of the HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-F2 into the address bar, and press Enter.

Note: If you have changed the HTTP port from the default, you must enter it in the format http://IP_address:HTTP_port (e.g., http://192.168.1.64:81).

2. Enter your user name and password in the login interface.

3. Click Login.

4. You may be prompted to install a plug-in. Follow the installation prompts. You might need to close the web browser to complete the installation.
