For first-time access, you must activate the HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-K2-R by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation.

Before You Start:

Power on your device.

Steps:

1. Select a language.

2. Click Next.

3. Input the same password in the Password and Confirm Password fields. It is highly recommended to create a strong password of your own choosing (using a minimum of 8 characters, including at least three of the following categories: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special characters) to increase the security of your product. Reset your password regularly.

4. To activate network camera(s) connected to the device, you can either:

– Check Use Device Password as Default to use the device password to activate the inactive network camera(s).

– Enter a separate password to activate the network camera(s).

5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. If you forget your password, you can reset it by email.

1) Check Enable.

2) Enter an email address.

6. Click Activate.

The admin user can configure and use an unlock pattern to log in after the device is activated.

Set Unlock Pattern

1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. Release the mouse when the pattern is done.

– The pattern must have at least 4 dots.

– Each dot can be connected only once.

2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

Log in via Unlock Pattern

1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface.

2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

Note: If you have forgotten your pattern, click Forgot My Pattern or Switch User to log in via password. If you draw the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal password login mode automatically.

If your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-K2-R has logged out, you must log in before operating the menu and other functions.

Steps:

1. Select your User Name from the dropdown list.

2. Input your password.

3. Click Login.

Note:

– If you forget the admin password, you can click Forgot Password to reset it.

– If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the current user account will be locked for 60 seconds.

When you are in the Live View interface, positioning the cursor on a camera will show a shortcut menu. There are also icons at the upper-right corner of each camera screen indicating its status.

Shortcut Menu Description

Live View Icon Description

You must configure PTZ parameters before controlling a PTZ camera. You can also customize presets, patrols, and patterns for automated PTZ movements.

Configure PTZ Parameters

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ control icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click PTZ Parameter Settings.

3. Set the PTZ camera parameters (Baud Rate, Data Bit, Stop Bit, Parity, Flow Ctrl, PTZ Protocol, Address). All parameters should be the same as the PTZ camera’s settings.

– For a Coaxitron camera/dome, you can select the PTZ protocol to UTC (Coaxitron). Ensure the protocol is supported by the camera. The AHD and HDCVI cameras also support coaxitron control.

4. Click OK.

Customize Preset

A preset is a saved location the PTZ camera will point to when an event occurs.

1. In the PTZ control panel, select a desired preset number from the preset list.

2. Use the direction buttons, zoom, and focus to position the camera as desired.

3. Click the “Set Preset” icon to save the position.

To call a preset, double-click it in the preset list.

Customize Patrol

A patrol is a path consisting of a series of presets.

1. In the PTZ control panel, click the Patrol tab.

2. Select a desired patrol number.

3. Click Set.

4. Click ‘+’ to add a key point.

5. Configure the key point parameters: Key Point No. (corresponding to a preset), Duration (time to stay at the point), and Speed (speed of movement to the next point).

6. Click Apply.

To start a patrol, select it and click Call.

Customize Pattern

A pattern records the camera’s movement path and dwell time.

1. In the PTZ control panel, click the Pattern tab.

2. Select a pattern.

3. Click Record.

4. Use the direction buttons, zoom, and focus to move the camera as desired. This path will be recorded.

5. Click Stop Recording. The path is saved as a pattern.

To start a pattern, select it and click Call.

You can play back videos using Normal Playback for all videos or Smart Playback to focus on videos with motion or other events.

Normal Playback

1. Go to Playback.

2. Select a camera from the camera list.

3. Select a date on the calendar. A blue triangle indicates available video.

4. The timeline will show recorded videos. Blue bars represent continuous video, and red bars represent event video.

5. Use the control bar at the bottom to play, pause, reverse, speed up/down, etc.

Smart Playback

This function analyzes video containing motion, line crossing, or intrusion detection information, making it easier to find relevant footage.

1. Go to Playback.

2. Click Smart.

3. Select a camera.

4. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar.

5. Use the icons on the control bar to draw detection areas for motion, line crossing, or intrusion.

6. Click the play strategy icon to configure playback options, such as “Do not Play Normal Videos” to skip footage without smart events.

You can clip videos during playback and export them to a backup device like a USB flash drive.

Before You Start:

Connect a backup device to your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-K2-R.

Steps:

1. Start playback of the desired video footage.

2. On the playback control bar, click the “Clip” icon.

3. Clip the video by either:

– Clicking the “Start Clipping” icon to set the start time and the “End Clipping” icon to set the end time, then click OK.

– Setting a time segment directly on the time bar for clipping.

4. Click the “Export” icon.

5. Click Export to save the clip to the connected backup device.

You can search for files based on specific criteria and quickly export them.

Search File

1. Go to Search.

2. Set your search conditions (e.g., camera, time, event type).

3. Click Search.

4. From the results list, you can:

– Click the play icon to play the video.

– Click the lock icon to lock the file. Locked files will not be overwritten.

– Select one or more files and click Export to save them to a backup device.

Quick Backup

1. Connect a backup device to your video recorder.

2. Go to Search.

3. Set your search conditions.

4. Click Quick Export.

5. Select the backup device and path.

6. Click OK to start exporting.

In Easy Mode, you can configure basic settings like output resolution, system time, and mouse pointer speed.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → System → General.

2. Configure the parameters as desired:

– System Date/Time: Set the current date and time.

– Resolution: Set the video output resolution.

– Enable Wizard: If checked, the setup wizard will pop up after the device starts up.

– Enable Password: If checked, you need to enter a password for authentication if the device automatically logs out.

– Enable NTP: Enable Network Time Protocol to synchronize time with an NTP server.

– Interval (min): Set the time interval for NTP synchronization.

– NTP Server/Port: Enter the IP address and port of the NTP server.

3. Click Apply.

You can add, edit, or delete users. The default administrator account (admin) has full permissions, while guest users have limited access.

Add User

1. Go to Configuration → User.

2. Click Add and confirm your admin password.

3. Enter a User Name.

4. Enter the same password in Password and Confirm.

5. Select a User Level (e.g., Guest).

6. Click OK.

Set Password Resetting Email

This allows you to receive a verification code to reset your password if you forget it.

1. Go to Configuration → User.

2. Click Password Resetting Email.

3. Enter the admin password for authorization.

4. Enter an email address.

5. Click OK.

Reset Password

1. Click Forgot Password at the password login interface.

2. Follow the wizard to reset your password (this typically involves using the pre-configured reset email).

You must properly configure the network settings before operating the device over a network. You can use Guarding Vision for easy remote access.

Configure General Network Settings

1. Go to Configuration → Network → General.

2. Set the network parameters:

– DHCP: If a DHCP server is available, check Enable DHCP to automatically obtain an IP address and other network settings.

– If not using DHCP, manually enter the IPv4 Address, IPv4 Subnet Mask, and IPv4 Default Gateway.

– Obtain DNS Automatically: If DHCP is enabled, you can check this to automatically get DNS server addresses.

– If not using automatic DNS, manually enter the Preferred DNS Server and Alternate DNS Server.

3. Click Apply.

Set Up Guarding Vision (Platform Access)

Guarding Vision provides a mobile app and platform service for remote access.

1. Go to Configuration → Network → Platform Access.

2. Select Access Type as Guarding Vision.

3. Check Enable. Read and agree to the service terms and privacy statement.

4. Optional: Check Stream Encryption. This requires a verification code for remote access and live view.

5. Enter a code in Verification Code. You can click Refresh to generate one randomly.

6. Click Apply.

After setup, you can scan the QR code to download the Guarding Vision app and add your device.

You can configure your HIKVISION DS-7208HGHI-K2-R to send an email when an event is triggered.

Before You Start:

– Ensure your video recorder is on a local network with an SMTP mail server.

– Configure your general network parameters correctly.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Network → Email.

2. Set the email parameters:

– Server Authentication: (Optional) Check to enable server authentication and enter the User Name and Password for the email account.

– SMTP Server: Enter the address of your SMTP server (e.g., smtp.yourprovider.com).

– SMTP Port: Enter the SMTP port number (e.g., 25, 465, 587).

– SSL/TLS: (Optional) Check to enable SSL/TLS if required by your SMTP server.

– Sender: The name of the sender.

– Sender’s Address: The email address the notifications will be sent from.

– Select Receiver: Select a receiver (up to 3 can be configured).

– Receiver/Receiver’s Address: The name and email address of the recipient.

3. Click Apply.

You can add network (IP) cameras that are on the same network segment as your video recorder.

Activate Network Camera

Only activated network cameras can be added.

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. The list will show online cameras. Click Inactive for a camera you wish to activate.

3. Set the camera password by either checking Use Channel Default Password or entering a custom password.

4. Click OK.

Add Network Camera Manually

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. Click +.

3. Set the network camera parameters, including IP address, protocol, management port, etc.

4. Optional: Click Add More to add another network camera.

5. Click OK.

Edit Connected Network Camera

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → IP Camera.

2. Click the edit icon for the selected camera.

3. You can edit the IP address, protocol, and other parameters.

4. Click OK.

You can configure various smart events to trigger alarms and other actions.

Configure Motion Detection

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Motion Detection.

2. Select a camera.

3. Check Enable.

4. In the Area Settings tab, set the motion detection area. You can click Full Screen or drag on the preview window to draw a custom area.

5. Adjust Sensitivity. A higher value makes the alarm more sensitive to movement.

6. Go to the Arming Schedule tab to set the time periods when motion detection is active.

7. Go to the Linkage Action tab to set what happens when motion is detected (e.g., audible warning, send email, trigger recording).

8. Click Apply.

Configure Line Crossing Detection

1. Go to Configuration → Camera → Smart Event → Line Crossing.

2. Select a camera.

3. Check Enable Intrusion Detection.

4. In the Area Settings tab, click Draw Area and set two points in the preview window to draw a virtual line.

5. Select the detection Direction (A<->B for bidirectional, A->B, or B->A).

6. Adjust Sensitivity.

7. Configure the Arming Schedule and Linkage Action as needed.

8. Click Apply.

Similar steps apply for configuring other smart events like Intrusion Detection.

You need to initialize a newly installed Hard Disk Drive (HDD) before use and can configure recording schedules.

Initialize HDD

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage.

2. Select an HDD from the list.

3. Click Init.

Configure Recording Schedule

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Schedule.

2. Select a camera from the Camera No. dropdown.

3. Check Enable.

4. Configure the schedule:

– Click Edit. Select a day (Weekday), check All Day for a 24-hour schedule, and select the schedule type (e.g., Continuous, Event).

– For specific time periods, uncheck All Day and set the Start/End Time and schedule type. You can set up to 8 periods per day.

– Alternatively, you can select a schedule type (Continuous or Event) and drag the mouse on the timetable to draw a colored bar for the desired period.

5. Click Apply.

You can set different port types for various network functions in the expert configuration mode.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration → Network → General → More Settings.

2. Configure the following ports as needed:

– Alarm Host IP/Port: The IP and port of a remote PC running client management software (CMS) to receive alarm events. The default port is 7200.

– Server Port: For remote client software access. Ranges from 2000 to 65535. The default value is 8000.

– HTTP Port: For remote web browser access. The default value is 80.

– Multicast IP: For enabling live view for cameras that exceed the maximum number allowed through a standard network connection. It uses a Class-D IP address.

– RTSP Port: For controlling streaming media servers. The port is 554 by default.

3. You can also enable Output Bandwidth Limit to control the bandwidth used for remote live view and playback.

You can manage multiple HDDs by organizing them into groups or by allocating a specific storage quota for each camera.

Configure HDD Groups

This allows video from specified channels to be recorded onto a particular HDD group.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage Mode.

2. Select Mode as Group.

3. Select a group number.

4. Check the cameras you want to record on this HDD group.

5. Click Apply.

6. Reboot the video recorder to activate the settings.

7. After reboot, go to Configuration → Record → Storage, click the settings icon of the desired HDD, and assign it to the correct group number.

Configure HDD Quota

This allows each camera to be configured with an allocated quota for storing videos.

1. Go to Configuration → Record → Storage Mode.

2. Select Mode as Quota.

3. Select a camera to set a quota for.

4. Enter the storage capacity in the text fields of Max. Record Capacity (GB) and Max. Picture Capacity (GB).

Note: If the quota capacity is set to 0, all cameras will use the total capacity of the HDD for videos and pictures.

5. Click Apply.

6. Reboot the video recorder to activate the new settings.

You can upgrade your device’s firmware locally using a backup device or online if the device is connected to the internet.

Warning: Do not shut down or turn off the power during the upgrade.

Local Upgrade

1. Store the upgrade firmware file on a backup device (e.g., USB flash drive) and connect it to your device.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the settings icon near Firmware.

4. Select your backup device in Device Name.

5. Select the upgrade firmware file.

6. Click Upgrade. Your device will reboot automatically after the upgrade is complete.

Online Upgrade

1. Ensure Guarding Vision is enabled and configured.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the ‘+’ icon.

4. Go to Online Upgrade.

5. The device will automatically check for and download the latest firmware. You can also click Test Upgrade to check manually.

6. If a new firmware version is available, the device will prompt you to upgrade. The device will reboot automatically.

You can access the video recorder via a web browser (Internet Explorer 6.0-11.0, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome).

Login

1. Open a web browser, enter the IP address of the video recorder, and press Enter.

– If you have changed the HTTP port, enter http://IP_address:HTTP_port in the address bar (e.g., http://192.168.1.64:81).

2. On the first visit, you may be prompted to install a plug-in. Follow the installation prompts. You may need to close the browser to complete the installation.

3. Enter your user name and password in the login interface.

4. Click Login.

Interface Overview

After logging in, you can access various functions through the main tabs:

– Live View: Shows the live video feed from your cameras. You can control PTZ functions, take snapshots, and start manual recording from this interface.

– Playback: Allows you to search for and play back recorded footage. You can search by time, camera, and stream type.

– Configuration: Provides access to all system, network, video, and event settings, similar to the local menu interface.

– To view logs, go to Maintenance → System → Maintenance → Log, set your search conditions, and click Search.
