Basics Guide

The main parts of your VIRGIN MOBILE VENTURE are:

1. Earpiece

2. Search key: For quick search.

3. Back key: Move to the previous screen.

4. Home key: Move to Home screen. Press and hold to show the eight most recently used apps.

Your VIRGIN MOBILE VENTURE has a QWERTY keyboard with the following key functions:

The VIRGIN MOBILE VENTURE is equipped with an antenna located in the base of the unit. For optimum call quality, hold the phone along the sides and avoid touching the top and bottom of the phone while in a call.

To install the battery in your VIRGIN MOBILE VENTURE, follow these steps:

1. Remove the battery cover from the unit.

2. Align the battery’s exposed gold contacts with the battery connectors inside the battery compartment.

3. Insert the contact side of the battery first and then gently push the battery into place.

4. Replace the battery cover over the battery compartment and press down until you hear a click.

Note: Please use only the original batteries and accessories you received with your phone or Virgin Mobile recommended replacements.

1. Make sure your VIRGIN MOBILE VENTURE is turned off. To remove the battery cover, use your finger at the small opening on the bottom of the phone to open the back cover.

2. Push the bottom of the battery upwards and remove the battery.

Before you turn on and use your VIRGIN MOBILE VENTURE, it is recommended that you charge the battery.

1. Plug the USB cable into the USB power adapter.

2. Plug the power adapter into a standard outlet.

3. Locate the USB port on the left side of your device.

4. Plug the other end of the USB cable into the phone’s micro USB port.

5. The USB icon on the cable should always face up when connecting the cable to your device as shown.

Inserting the microSD card:

1. Remove the battery cover.

2. Locate the microSD card slot.

3. Insert the microSD card into the slot with its gold contacts facing down until it clicks into place.

4. Replace the battery cover.

Removing the microSD card:

1. Make sure your device is turned off, and then remove the battery cover.

2. Press the microSD card to eject it from the slot, then slide it out the rest of the way.

If you need to remove the microSD card while the phone is on, you must unmount it first to prevent corrupting or damaging the files on it.

1. From the Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. Or press the Menu key > Settings.

2. Tap Storage > Unmount SD card > OK.

3. Remove the microSD card by following the steps in “SD card safe to remove”.

Turning your phone on:

1. Press and hold the Power/Lock key.

Turning your phone off:

1. If the display is off, press the Power/Lock key to turn it back on.

2. Press and hold the Power/Lock key for a few seconds.

3. When the Phone options menu appears, tap Power off > OK.

Activate on your phone:

1. Tap Activate.

2. Your phone will connect to the network. Tap Get Started Now to continue the activation process. Your phone will display your new Virgin Mobile phone number. Write it down.

3. Tap Restart to Use to complete the activation process. Your phone will turn back on by itself.

4. That’s it. You will receive a text message to let you know you can start talking.

Silent mode:

1. Press and hold the Power/Lock key.

2. Tap Silent mode. When selected, ringtones, alerts, and all audible sounds except media and alarms are silenced. To turn silent mode off, repeat the steps and tap Silent mode again.

Airplane mode:

1. Press and hold the Power/Lock key.

2. Tap Airplane mode. When set, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and mobile network functions are all disabled. To turn airplane mode off, repeat the steps and tap Airplane mode again.

Tap	To select onscreen items such as application and settings icons or press onscreen buttons, simply touch them with your finger.
Tap and hold	To open available options for the item, simply touch and hold your finger on the screen over the item.
Swipe or slide	Quickly drag your finger vertically or horizontally across the screen.
Drag	Tap and hold your finger before you start to drag. While dragging, do not release your finger until the item reaches your desired location.
Flick	Flicking the screen is similar to swiping, but you only need to swipe your finger in lighter and quicker strokes. This finger gesture is always in a vertical direction, such as flicking through the contacts or the message lists.
Rotate	For most screens, you can automatically change the screen orientation from portrait to landscape by turning the phone sideways. When entering text, you can turn the phone sideways to bring up a bigger on-screen keyboard.

1. Caps/Shift key	To type a single uppercase letter. To continuously type uppercase letters, press Caps/Shift key twice to lock it. Press Caps/Shift key again to unlock.
2. Fn (Function key)	To type the number or symbol printed on the keys in gray, hold down the Fn key and press one or more letter keys. To return to typing letters, release the Fn key. To continuously type numbers and symbols, press Fn key twice to lock it. Press Fn key again to unlock.
3. @	To type “@”.
4. Space bar	To type a blank space.
5. A-Z (alphanumeric keys)	To type numbers, letters or special characters. Go to the Google Search screen if pressed on the Home screen.
6. Delete (Delete key)	To delete a character. Press and hold Delete key to rapidly delete the entire entry.
7. Enter (Enter key)	To begin a new line.
8. Sym (Symbol key)	Pressing the Sym key opens a pop up menu of additional symbols.
9. Smiley key	To type smiley icons. (Emoticons)

In addition to the physical QWERTY keyboard, you can use an onscreen keyboard. To enable the onscreen keyboard:

1. From the Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > Language & keyboard > Soft keyboard switch.

2. Select Landscape mode or Portrait mode or both.

Your VIRGIN MOBILE VENTURE includes two onscreen keyboards:

Android keyboard: This is the standard Android keyboard layout, similar to a desktop computer’s keyboard. It is the default entry method.

TouchPal Input: This is an innovative input solution where you need to tap and slide.

To switch the on-screen keyboard type: Tap and hold the text input field > Tap Input method > Select Android keyboard or TouchPal Input.

Selecting text:

1. Tap the text field.

2. Move the cursor to the beginning or end of the desired text by tapping in the location you want the cursor.

3. Tap and hold the text field.

4. Tap Select word in the pop up menu. Or tap Select all to select all the text in the text field.

5. Drag your finger to move the text cursor to a letter within the text that you want to select. The selected text is highlighted in orange.

Cutting and copying the text:

1. Select the text to cut or copy it.

2. Tap and hold the selected text.

3. Tap Cut or Copy in the menu that opens.

Pasting the text:

1. Cut or copy the text to paste.

2. Tap the text field where you want to paste the text and move the cursor to your desired location.

3. Tap and hold then select Paste in the pop up menu.

Registering an existing Google account:

1. Tap Sign in when prompted.

2. Enter your Google account Username and Password > Tap Sign in.

Creating a new Google account:

1. Tap Create > Enter First name, Last name and Username > Tap Next.

2. Enter and confirm a password, then tap Next.

3. Select a Security question, enter the Answer, and enter a Secondary Email > Create.

4. Read the Google Terms of Service > Tap I agree, Next.

5. Enter the letters shown on the screen > Tap Next > Tap Finish.

Adding another Google account:

1. From the Home screen, tap Apps > Settings.

2. Tap Accounts & sync > Add account.

3. Tap Google > Tap Next and follow the prompts.

Removing a Google account:

1. From the Home screen, tap Apps > Settings.

2. Tap Accounts & sync.

3. Select the account to be deleted > Tap Remove account > Remove account.

1. Open the Home screen you want to customize.

2. Press the Menu key > Add. Or just tap and hold an empty area on the Home screen.

3. On the menu that appears, select from the following choices:

Shortcuts: Add shortcuts for Applications, Bookmark, Contact, Direct dial, Direct message, Directions & Navigation, Email, Gmail label, Music playlist and Settings.

Widgets: Add mini-applications like Analog clock, Calendar, Google Search, Music, News & Weather, etc.

Folders: Create a new folder to organize icons. You can also create folders for All contacts, Bluetooth received, etc.

Wallpapers: Choose from Gallery photos, ID wallpapers, Live wallpapers or Wallpapers to change the background.

Moving an item:

1. From the Home screen, tap and hold the item you want to move until it vibrates. Don’t lift your finger.

2. Drag the item to a new location on the Home screen.

3. Lift your finger at the location where you want the item.

Removing an item:

1. From the Home screen, tap and hold an item until it vibrates. The Dock menu changes into a trash can icon.

2. Drag the item to the trash can icon.

3. When the item turns red, lift your finger.

1. When you receive a new notification, an icon appears in the status bar at the top of your screen.

2. Tap and hold the Status bar, and then slide your finger downward to open the Notifications panel.

3. If you have multiple notifications, you may need to scroll to see them all.

4. Tap a notification to respond to it.

To close the Notifications panel, drag the bottom bar of the panel up, or press the Back key.

Switching to Sleep mode:

Press the Power/Lock key to switch your phone to Sleep mode. This saves battery power by turning off the display. Your phone automatically turns off the display after a period of inactivity.

Waking up from Sleep mode:

Your phone automatically wakes up for an incoming call. To wake it up manually, press the Power/Lock key.

Unlocking the screen:

On the lock screen, tap the unlock icon and slide your finger in the direction of the arrows to unlock the screen. The screen unlocks automatically when you answer an incoming call.

Adjusting the ringer volume:

From the Home screen, press the Volume up or Volume down key on the right side of the phone.

Adjusting the media volume:

While playing music or video, press the Volume up or Volume down key.

Adjusting the earpiece volume for phone calls:

During a phone call, press the Volume up or Volume down key.

Adjusting volume via Settings menu:

1. From the Home screen, tap Apps > Settings.

2. Tap Sound > Volume.

3. Drag the volume sliders left or right to adjust Ringtone, Media, and Alarm volumes.

4. When you’re done, tap OK.

1. Connect your phone to your computer using the supplied USB cable.

2. On your phone, open the Notifications panel and tap USB connected.

3. Tap Turn on USB storage. Your phone will be recognized as a removable hard drive on your computer.

4. Navigate to the removable drive and open it.

5. Do one of the following:

Copy files from the computer to the microSD card’s root folder.

Copy files from the phone’s microSD card to a folder on your computer.

6. After copying, unmount the removable drive on your computer as required by its operating system to safely remove your phone.

7. After you have unmounted the drive, you can disconnect the phone from the computer.

From the dialer screen:

1. From the Home screen, tap Phone.

2. Tap the number you want to dial.

3. Tap the call icon.

Making an international call:

1. From the Home screen, tap Phone.

2. Tap and hold 0 until the international prefix ‘+’ appears.

3. Tap the country code, area code, and phone number.

4. Tap the call icon.

From the Call log:

1. From the Home screen, tap Phone > Call log.

2. Tap the call icon at the right of any entry to dial.

From the Contact list:

1. From the Home screen, tap Phone > Contacts.

2. Scroll through the contact list and tap the contact you want to call.

3. Tap the call icon.

When you receive a phone call, the screen displays the caller’s information.

1. To answer the call, drag the green phone icon in the direction of the arrows.

2. To reject the call, drag the red phone icon in the direction of the arrows.

To silence the ringer before answering the call, press either of the volume keys.

Dial Pad	Drag Dial Pad in the direction of the arrows to enter additional numbers during your call.
Mute	You can unmute the microphone by tapping the Mute icon again.
Speaker	You can turn the speakerphone off by tapping the Speaker icon again.
Bluetooth	When a Bluetooth device is connected, you can conduct calls using Bluetooth. Tap the Bluetooth icon to toggle in-call audio to and from the accessory.
Contacts	You can search for contacts during a call.
Swap calls	You can switch between two calls by tapping the Swap calls icon.

Opening the Call log:

From the Home screen, tap Phone > Call log.

Adding a phone number from Call log to Contacts:

1. In the Call log, tap and hold the desired entry > Add to contacts.

2. Tap Create new contact or add to an existing contact.

3. Enter the information and tap Done.

Sending a text message from the Call log:

1. In the Call log, tap and hold the contact > Send text message.

2. Enter your message and tap Send.

Clearing the Call log:

1. In the Call log, press the Menu key > Clear call log > OK.

2. To remove a single entry, tap and hold the entry, then in the pop up menu, tap Remove from call log.

When you have a new voicemail message, an icon appears in the Status bar.

From the Apps screen:

1. From the Home screen, tap Apps > Voicemail.

From the Dial Pad:

1. From the Home screen, tap Phone.

2. Tap and hold 1. Or, tap 1 and then tap the call icon.

From the Notification panel:

1. Open the Notifications panel and tap New voicemail.

Adding a new contact:

1. From the Home screen, tap Apps > Contacts.

2. Press the Menu key > New contact.

3. Enter the contact’s information and tap Done.

Importing/Exporting contacts:

1. From the Home screen, tap Apps > Contacts.

2. Press the Menu key > Import/Export.

3. Choose to Import from SD card, Export to SD card, or Share visible contacts.

Editing a contact:

1. In Contacts, tap and hold the contact you want to edit > Tap Edit contact.

2. Edit the information and tap Done.

Deleting a contact:

1. In Contacts, tap and hold the contact you want to delete > Delete contact.

2. Tap OK.

Sending a Text Message (SMS):

1. From the Home screen, tap Apps > Messaging.

2. Tap New message.

3. Enter the phone number in the To field, or tap the icon to select recipients from your contact list.

4. Tap ‘Type to compose’ and enter your message.

5. Tap Send.

Sending a Multimedia Message (MMS):

1. Start by creating a new text message as described above.

2. Press the Menu key > Attach.

3. Choose the type of attachment (Pictures, Videos, Audio, Slideshow, etc.).

4. After attaching the file, tap Send MMS.

To control and customize your phone settings, from the Home screen, tap Apps > Settings. Here are the available categories:

Wireless & networks

Airplane mode	Turn off all radios that transmit voice or data.
Wi-Fi/ Wi-Fi settings	Set up and manage Wi-Fi networks.
Bluetooth/ Bluetooth settings	Turn Bluetooth on/off and manage settings.
VPN settings	Set up and manage Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
Mobile networks	Set options for roaming, networks and APNs.

Call settings

North American dialing	Check to replace + with International dialing code except +1.
International dialing	Set international dialing code for outgoing calls.
TTY mode	Allows people with hearing or speech disabilities to communicate via telephone.
DTMF Tones	Set the length of DTMF tones.

Sound

Silent mode	When set, your phone doesn’t play any ring, alert, and effects sounds.
Vibrate	Configure when the phone vibrates for calls or notifications.
Volume	Set volume for ringtones, media, and alarms.
Phone ringtone	Select the ringtone for incoming phone calls.
Notification ringtone	Select the ringtone for notifications.

Display

Brightness	Adjust the brightness of the screen.
Auto-rotate screen	Automatically switch the orientation of the screen.
Screen timeout	Adjust the delay before the screen automatically turns off.

Location & security

Use wireless networks	Location determined by Wi-Fi and/or mobile networks.
Use GPS satellites	Accurate to street level location (uncheck to conserve battery).
Set up screen lock	Configure a pattern, PIN, or password to unlock your screen.

Other settings categories include: Applications, Accounts & sync, Privacy, Storage, Language & keyboard, Voice input & output, Accessibility, Date & time, and About phone.
