To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, serious injury or death to persons when using the SPEED QUEEN SCB30CSH, follow these basic precautions:

• Read all instructions before using the tumbler.

• DO NOT tamper with controls.

• DO NOT bypass any safety devices.

• Always follow the fabric care instructions supplied by the garment manufacturer.

• Remove laundry immediately after the tumbler stops.

• DO NOT reach into the tumbler if the cylinder is revolving.

• Do not allow children to play on or in the tumbler. Close supervision of children is necessary when the tumbler is used near children.

• Before the tumbler is removed from service or discarded, remove the door to the drying compartment.

• Do not install or store the tumbler where it will be exposed to water and/or weather.

• Run the tumbler with a load before putting it into service.

• Always disconnect the electrical power to the tumbler before servicing.

To avoid creating any flammable vapors which may explode, ignite or cause corrosive damage, DO NOT dry the following materials in your SPEED QUEEN SCB30CSH:

• Articles that have been cleaned in, soaked in, washed in or spotted with gasoline, dry cleaning solvents or other flammable/explosive substances.

• Plastics or articles containing foam rubber or similarly textured rubberlike materials.

• Articles that have traces of flammable substances like cooking oil, machine oil, flammable chemicals or thinner. Articles soiled with vegetable or cooking oil may not have the oil removed during washing, and due to the remaining oil, the fabric may catch on fire by itself.

• Articles containing wax or cleaning chemicals.

• Fiberglass curtains or draperies (unless the label says it can be done).

To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, serious injury or death, do not operate the SPEED QUEEN SCB30CSH tumbler if it does not perform according to instructions. Immediately disconnect electrical service, shut off the gas supply, and contact an authorized service representative. Service and repairs are to be performed by authorized service representatives only.

The model and serial numbers for your SPEED QUEEN SCB30CSH will be found on the nameplate. The nameplate is located on the rear of the tumbler or underneath the door hinge.

For maximum efficiency and minimum lint accumulation, the SPEED QUEEN SCB30CSH tumbler air must be exhausted to the outdoors by the shortest possible route. Proper sized exhaust ducts are essential for proper operation.

• **Individual Venting:** It is preferred to exhaust tumblers individually to the outdoors. At no point may the cross area of installed venting be less than the cross area of the exhaust thimble of the tumbler. The maximum allowable length of venting is 14 feet (4.3 m) and two 90° elbows or equivalent.

• **Duct Material:** Exhaust ducts shall be constructed of sheet metal or other noncombustible material, equivalent in strength and corrosion resistance to galvanized sheet steel not less than 0.0195 inches (0.495 mm) thick.

• **Assembly:** All elbows should be sweep type. Exhaust ducts must be assembled so interior surfaces are smooth to reduce lint accumulation. Do not use sheet metal screws to join vent sections.

• **Clearance:** Where an exhaust duct pierces a combustible wall or ceiling, an opening having a diameter of 4 inches (10.2 cm) larger than the duct diameter shall be provided, with the duct centered in the opening. The space around the duct shall be sealed with non-combustible material.

• **Airflow:** With the tumbler in operation, airflow at any point in the duct must be at least 1200 feet (366 m) per minute to ensure that lint remains airborne.

• **Exhaust Outlet:** DO NOT exhaust tumbler air into a window well, gas vent, chimney, or enclosed, unventilated area such as an attic wall, ceiling, crawl space, or concealed space of a building. Do not install a wire mesh or screen in the opening, as lint will build up.

The maximum allowable length of venting for your SPEED QUEEN SCB30CSH is 14 feet of straight duct plus two 90° elbows. You can use the following table to determine the equivalent length of elbows. If the total equivalent length exceeds the maximum, the duct diameter must be increased.

Example: A 6-inch diameter duct’s equivalent length of 14 feet of duct and two 90° elbows is:

14 feet + 7 feet + 7 feet = 28 feet total equivalent length.

The SPEED QUEEN SCB30CSH is a forced air exhaust tumbler and requires provisions for make-up air to replace the air it exhausts. The manufacturer’s recommended make-up air opening for each 30-pound tumbler is 144 square inches (928 sq. cm). At a minimum, tumblers must have at least 1 sq. inch (2.54 cm²) of opening for every 1000 BTU/hr of input rating for proper combustion.

Protective louvers in an opening can reduce air movement by approximately 40%, so the opening size must compensate for the area taken up by louvers. If dry cleaning machines are in the same area, the tumbler make-up air must come from a source free of solvent gases and vapors.

The following are the electrical specifications for the 30-pound gas drying tumbler models like the SPEED QUEEN SCB30CSH. All electrical connections should be made by a qualified electrician.

Grounding Instructions: The SPEED QUEEN SCB30CSH must be grounded. In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding reduces the risk of electric shock by providing a path of least resistance for electric current. The tumbler must be connected to a grounded metal, permanent wiring system, or an equipment grounding conductor must be run with the circuit conductors and connected to the PE Busbar. Improper connection can result in a risk of electric shock.

All electrical connections should be made by a qualified electrician. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, de-energize the electrical circuit before making connections.

1. Install a circuit breaker as close to the tumbler as possible. A separate circuit breaker should be provided for each tumbler.

2. a. Connect conduit-encased leads to the circuit breaker.

2. b. Turn “off” the disconnect switch on the tumbler and open the junction box.

2. c. Insert conduit-encased leads through one of the knockout holes in the junction box.

2. d. Connect wire leads to the disconnect switch. For 1 Phase Units, connect one lead to the top left connection point and the other lead to the top right connection point.

2. e. Connect a ground wire to the PE Busbar in the junction box.

3. For three-phase units, check the electrical service phase sequence. Energize the service and momentarily start the tumbler. If the cylinder rotates clockwise (viewed from the front), the phase sequence is correct. If it rotates counterclockwise, disconnect power and reverse any two leads at the connections.

4. Close the junction box cover and turn “on” the disconnect switch.

Positioning:

The SPEED QUEEN SCB30CSH may be removed from its shipping skid by unscrewing the four shipping capscrews, one at each corner. The lint panel door may need to be removed to access the two front capscrews. Do not throw these capscrews away, as they are the leveling legs.

Screw the four leveling legs back into the level adjusting fittings from the top. Slide the tumbler to its permanent location. Keep the tumbler as close to the floor as possible. All four legs must rest firmly on the floor so the weight is evenly distributed and the tumbler does not rock.

Leveling:

The tumbler should be leveled within 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from front to rear, and 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from side to side. Check the front-to-rear level by rotating the cylinder until one rib is at the bottom, then place a level on that bottom rib. The side-to-side level should be checked by placing a level on the front and rear of the top panel.

Before connecting, ensure the gas service is the same as that specified on the nameplate of your SPEED QUEEN SCB30CSH.

• **Natural Gas:** Must be supplied at 6-1/2 ± 1-1/2 inch water column pressure (1.62 ± .37 kPa).

• **L.P. Gas:** Must be supplied at 11 ± .3 inch water column pressure (2.74 ± .07 kPa). A vent to the outdoors must be provided in the room where the tumbler is installed.

Purge air and sediment from the gas service line before connecting it loosely to the tumbler. Purge the remaining air until the odor of gas is detected, then tighten the connection. Use pipe compound resistant to the actions of L.P. gas on all pipe threads.

Check all pipe connections, internal and external, for gas leaks using a soapy solution. DO NOT USE AN OPEN FLAME. Gas connections should be checked annually for leakage.

Lighting the System:

1. Turn the machine disconnect switch, located on the rear of the tumbler, to the “on” position.

2. Turn the gas shut-off valve, located on the rear of the tumbler, to the “on” position (gas valve handle should be parallel with the gas line).

3. Start the tumbler, following the operating instructions. The ignition control circuitry will verify the airflow switch is open before starting. Once the motor starts, air flowing through the tumbler will close the airflow switch. The tumbler will purge air for 18 seconds. Ignition will then start by a three-second release of gas and sparking of the ignitor.

If ignition does not occur during the first three seconds, the ignition control will “lockout,” causing the gas valve to close and a red button on the control to illuminate. To reset, open the access door, press the red button on the ignition control, close and lock the door, verify the gas shut-off is “on,” and return to step 3.

Shutting Down the System:

To shut down the SPEED QUEEN SCB30CSH, turn the machine disconnect switch to the “off” position and turn the gas shut-off valve to the “off” position (handle should be at a right angle to the gas line).

Removal of Existing Timing Cam:

1. Rotate the cam by hand until the “V” notch lines up beneath a ratchet tooth.

2. Insert a narrow screwdriver under the nylon cam, close to the clock shaft. Lift gently off the shaft, ensuring pressure is directed upward and the “V” notch clears the ratchet tooth.

Installation of New Timing Cam:

1. Insert the drive into the timing cam with the wide prong in the wide hole of the cam.

2. Position the timing cam and drive fork over the timer shaft, aligning the timer flat with the drive fork and the “V” notch with one of the ratchet teeth.

3. Press the timing cam down firmly to seat it onto the motor shaft.

4. Remove all accumulated time by turning the cam counterclockwise until the switch shuts off. Apply moderate clockwise pressure to the fully seated timing cam and drive against the timing motor shaft. The meter must be advanced electrically for one cycle before an accurate measure of time can be made.

1. Remove or open all panels and inspect accessible bolts, nuts, screws, terminals, and fittings for security.

2. Check belt tension and adjust if necessary.

3. Energize the electrical circuit at the breaker and turn on the tumbler disconnect switch.

4. Turn on the gas supply at the manual gas shut-off valve (gas models only). The handle should be parallel with the gas supply line when in the “ON” position.

5. Press and hold the Push-to-Start Button for approximately three (3) seconds. Release the button and open the cylinder door. The cylinder should stop rotating within seven (7) seconds after the door is opened 3″ (7.5 cm) plus or minus 1/4″ (0.635 cm). If it doesn’t stop, adjust the cylinder door interlock.

6. Load the tumbler with clothes or clean rags.

7. Start the tumbler and check the burner flame, adjusting the gas inlet shutter if necessary.

8. Check airflow switch operation by opening the lint panel. The heating system should shut off when the lint panel is opened approximately 1-1/2″ (3.81 cm). Adjust if necessary.

9. Turn off the tumbler.

10. Check airflow switch operation again by opening the lint panel. The heating system should shut off when the lint panel is opened approximately 6″ (15.24 cm) with a full load.

1. Set the temperature selector to HIGH.

2. Insert the required amount of coins.

3. Press and hold the Push-to-Start Button for approximately three (3) seconds. The motor will start and the heat system will turn on.

4. Near the end of the cycle, a preset 2 1/2 minute cool down cycle will start.

5. When the metered time expires, the motor will stop, indicating the drying cycle is finished.

Before adjusting, ensure all lint is removed from the lint compartment and screen. Both air inlet shutters on the burner must be adjusted for proper combustion.

1. Unlock and open the access door.

2. Start the tumbler and check the flame pattern. A correct mixture is indicated if the flame is primarily blue with small yellow tips and bends to the right of the heater section. Too little air is indicated if the flame is yellow, lazy, and smokey.

3. To adjust, loosen the air inlet shutter adjusting screw.

4. Open or close the air shutter as necessary to obtain the proper flame intensity.

5. After adjustment, tighten the air shutter adjusting screw securely.

6. If the shutter is correctly adjusted but the flame pattern is straight up, it indicates insufficient primary air is flowing through the tumbler. A flame that flares to the right and left indicates no air is flowing through the tumbler.

The control panel must be in place and the access door closed before adjusting the air flow switch. The air flow switch disc must remain closed during operation. If it opens and closes during the cycle, it indicates insufficient air flow.

1. Load the tumbler.

2. Start the tumbler. Open the lint panel 6 inches (15.24 cm). The airflow disc should move away from the cabinet, opening the switch contacts and shutting off the heat system. This indicates proper adjustment.

3. If the switch does not open as described, it needs to be MORE sensitive. Depress the spring clip and move the counterweight toward the disc. Retest and continue moving the counterweight toward the disc until it operates correctly.

4. If the switch opens BEFORE the lint panel is opened 6 inches, it needs to be LESS sensitive. Depress the spring clip and move the counterweight away from the disc. Retest and continue moving it away from the disc until it operates as described.

1. Start the tumbler following operating instructions.

2. Slowly open the loading door. The cylinder and heating system should stop when the door is open 3″ (7.5 cm) plus or minus 1/4″ (0.635 cm).

3. Slowly close the loading door. The switch should close with an audible “click” when the door is closed 3″ (7.5 cm) plus or minus 1/4″ (0.635 cm).

4. If the switch does not close at the correct point:

a. Close the loading door completely.

b. Loosen the lower screw on the switch coupler and rotate the coupler COUNTERCLOCKWISE until it stops.

c. Tighten the lower screw on the switch coupler.

d. Return to step 1 to verify proper operation.

To reduce the risk of serious injury or death, disconnect power to the tumbler before performing this operation. Proper tension is when the belt can be depressed approximately 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) with light thumb pressure midway between the sheave and motor pulley. The upper poly V-belt is self-adjusting.

1. Remove the guard from the rear of the tumbler.

2. To adjust belt tension, loosen the adjusting bolt holding the idler housing assembly to the housing support.

3. To tighten the V-belt:

a. Loosen the lower nut on the adjusting bolt.

b. Turn the bolt up until the belt has proper tension.

c. Tighten the upper and lower nut on the adjusting bolt.

4. To loosen the V-belt:

a. Loosen the top nut on the adjusting bolt.

b. Turn the bolt down until the belt has proper tension.

c. Tighten the upper and lower nut on the adjusting bolt.

5. Replace the guard on the rear of the tumbler. The guard MUST be installed after adjustment is made.

1. Make certain the drying cycle has ended.

2. Open the loading door.

3. Unlock and remove the lint panel.

4. Remove accumulated lint in the lint compartment. Lint left in the compartment will be drawn back onto the screen and restrict air circulation.

5. Clean lint from the lint screen. If the screen is torn, replace it immediately.

6. Ensure the lint screen covers the entire opening in the lint screen hood. Gaps will allow lint to flow into the ductwork.

7. Wipe any accumulated lint off the thermostat sensing probe. Lint buildup on the probe will cause overheating.

8. Replace and securely lock the lint panel.

1. Perform daily cleaning of accumulated lint.

2. Deactivate the electrical circuit by turning off the electrical disconnect switch on the rear of the tumbler.

4. Remove the exhaust duct from the rear of the tumbler and clean out all accumulated lint.

5. Reinstall the exhaust duct.

6. Remove the bottom cover from the vertical exhaust duct and clean out all accumulated lint.

7. Reinstall the vertical exhaust duct cover.

8. Inspect the entire duct work assembly and clean out all accumulated lint.

9. Energize the electrical circuit to the tumbler by turning on the electrical disconnect switch on the rear of the tumbler.

1. Deactivate the electrical circuit by turning off the disconnect switch on the rear of the tumbler.

2. Perform daily cleaning of accumulated lint.

3. Perform monthly inspection and cleaning of accumulated lint.

4. Clean accumulated lint and other debris from the front and back motor air vents.

5. Shut off the gas supply at the manual gas shut-off valve. The handle should be at a 90° angle to the gas supply line when in the “OFF” position.

6. Remove the screws holding the rear drive guard to the back of the tumbler.

7. Inspect belts for wear and proper tension.

8. Reinstall the rear drive guard to the back of the tumbler.

9. Energize the electrical circuit to the tumbler by turning on the electrical disconnect switch.

10. Turn on the gas supply at the manual gas shut-off valve. The handle should be parallel with the gas supply line when in the “ON” position.

1. Deactivate the electrical circuit by turning off the disconnect switch on the rear of the tumbler.

2. Perform daily cleaning of accumulated lint.

3. Perform monthly inspection and cleaning of accumulated lint.

4. Perform quarterly inspection and cleaning of accumulated lint.

5. Remove or open all panels and check accessible bolts, nuts, screws, terminals, and fittings for tightness.

6. Shut off the gas supply at the manual gas shut-off valve. The handle should be at a 90° angle to the gas supply line when in the “OFF” position.

7. Unlock and open the service panel and inspect gas connections for evidence of leakage or loose connections. Spraying a mild solution of soap and water on joints will cause bubbles to appear on any leaking connections.

8. Close and securely lock the service panel.

9. Open the electrical junction box cover and inspect all electrical and grounding connections for security. Tighten any loose connections.

10. Close the electrical junction box cover and energize the electrical circuit by turning on the electrical disconnect switch.

11. Turn on the gas supply at the manual gas shut-off valve. The handle should be parallel with the gas supply line when in the “ON” position.
