It is crucial to follow all manufacturer’s instructions. Failure to install, maintain, and/or operate the SPEED QUEEN JCB30WE according to instructions may result in conditions which can produce serious injury, death, and/or property damage.

The WARNING and IMPORTANT instructions in the manual are not meant to cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood that common sense, caution, and carefulness are factors which CANNOT be built into this tumbler. These factors MUST BE supplied by the person(s) installing, maintaining, or operating the tumbler.

To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, serious injury, or death, do not operate the SPEED QUEEN JCB30WE if it does not perform according to the instructions. Immediately disconnect electrical service, shut off any gas supply, and contact an authorized service representative. Service and repairs are to be performed by authorized service representatives only.

To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, serious injury, or death to persons when using the SPEED QUEEN JCB30WE, follow these basic precautions:

• Read all instructions before using the tumbler.

• DO NOT tamper with controls.

• DO NOT bypass any safety devices.

• Always follow the fabric care instructions supplied by the garment manufacturer.

• Remove laundry immediately after the tumbler stops.

• DO NOT reach into the tumbler if the cylinder is revolving.

To avoid creating any flammable vapors which may explode, ignite, or cause corrosive damage, DO NOT dry the following materials in your SPEED QUEEN JCB30WE:

• Articles that have been cleaned in, soaked in, washed in, or spotted with gasoline, dry cleaning solvents, or other flammable/explosive substances.

• Plastics or articles containing foam rubber or similarly textured rubberlike materials.

• Articles that have traces of flammable substances like cooking oil, machine oil, flammable chemicals, or thinner. NOTE: DO NOT put articles soiled with vegetable or cooking oil in the dryer as these oils may not be removed during washing. Due to the remaining oil, the fabric may catch on fire by itself.

• Articles containing wax or cleaning chemicals.

• Fiberglass curtains or draperies (unless the label says it can be done).

• Do not allow children to play on or in the tumbler. Close supervision of children is necessary when the tumbler is used near children.

• Do not install or store the tumbler where it will be exposed to water and/or weather.

• To reduce the risk of serious injury, install lockable door(s) to prevent public access to the rear of tumblers.

• The dryer must be exhausted outdoors, and the area around the dryer must be free of lint because the dryer produces combustible lint.

• Before the tumbler is removed from service or discarded, remove the door to the drying compartment.

Always disconnect the electrical power to the tumbler before servicing. Disconnect power by shutting off the appropriate circuit breaker or fuse and by turning off the disconnect switch located on the rear of the tumbler.

The model and serial numbers for your SPEED QUEEN JCB30WE will be found on the nameplate. The nameplate is located on the rear of the tumbler or underneath the door hinge.

Upon delivery, visually inspect the crate, carton, and parts for any visible shipping damage. If there are signs of damage, have the carrier note the condition on shipping papers before signing, or advise the carrier as soon as it is discovered. A written claim should be filed with the carrier immediately if articles are damaged or missing.

Remove the crate and protective cover and check items against the packing list.

IMPORTANT: Remove shipping tape from the two back draft dampers located in the exhaust thimble.

Floor: The SPEED QUEEN JCB30WE may be installed on any level floor capable of supporting 100 pounds per square foot (488 kg/m²). Floor covering materials such as carpeting or tile should be removed.

Layout: Whenever possible, the tumbler should be installed along an outside wall where duct length can be kept to a minimum, and make-up air can be easily accessed. Construction must not block airflow at the top rear of the tumbler.

Venting: For maximum efficiency and minimum lint accumulation, tumbler air must be exhausted to the outdoors by the shortest possible route. Exhaust ducts shall be constructed of sheet metal or other noncombustible material. Do not use sheet metal screws to join vent sections. Maximum allowable length of venting is 14 feet (4.3 m) and two 90° elbows or equivalent.

Make-Up Air: The tumbler requires provisions for make-up air to replace the exhausted air. The recommended make-up air opening is 144 square inches (928 sq. cm). Protective louvers can reduce air movement by approximately 40%, so the opening must compensate for the area taken up by louvers.

NOTE: DO NOT use aluminum wire.

All electrical connections should be made by a qualified electrician. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, de-energize the electrical circuit before making any connections.

1. Install a circuit breaker as close to the tumbler as possible.

2. Connect conduit-encased leads to the circuit breaker.

3. Turn “off” the disconnect switch on the tumbler and open the junction box.

4. Insert conduit-encased leads through a knockout hole in the junction box.

5. Connect wire leads to the disconnect switch. For 1 Phase Units, connect one lead to the top left and the other to the top right. For 3 Phase Units, connect one lead to each connection point.

6. Connect a ground wire to the PE Busbar in the junction box.

7. For three-phase units, check the phase sequence. Energize the service and momentarily start the tumbler. If the cylinder rotates clockwise (viewed from the front), the sequence is correct. If not, disconnect power and reverse any two leads at the connections.

8. Close the junction box cover and turn “on” the disconnect switch.

The SPEED QUEEN JCB30WE can be moved on its shipping skid. To remove it from the skid, unscrew the four shipping capscrews (one at each corner). The lint panel door may need to be removed to access two front capscrews.

NOTE: Do not throw these four capscrews away – they are the leveling legs.

Screw the four leveling legs back into the level adjusting fittings from the top. Slide the tumbler to its permanent location. Keep the tumbler as close to the floor as possible. Level the tumbler so all four legs rest firmly on the floor and the weight is evenly distributed. The tumbler must not rock.

The tumbler should be leveled within 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from front to rear, and 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from side to side. Check front-to-rear level by rotating the cylinder until one rib is at the bottom, then place a level on that rib. Check side-to-side level by placing a level on the front and rear of the top panel.

When installing your SPEED QUEEN JCB30WE in an enclosure, follow these clearance guidelines from combustible construction:

• Top: A minimum of 12 inches (30.5 cm).

• Front: 0″ clearance is permitted for the first 4 inches (10.16 cm) of the cabinet.

• Rear: A minimum of 24 inches (61 cm) is required, with 36 inches (91.4 cm) recommended for maintenance purposes.

• Sides: 0″ clearance permitted.

IMPORTANT: Do not block airflow at the top rear of the tumbler with laundry, etc. This would prevent adequate air supply to the tumbler’s heat chamber.

1. Remove or open all panels and inspect accessible bolts, nuts, screws, terminals, and fittings for security.

2. Check belt tension and adjust if necessary.

3. Energize the electrical circuit to the tumbler circuit breaker and turn on the tumbler disconnect switch.

4. Press and hold the Push-to-Start Button for approximately three (3) seconds. Release the button and open the cylinder door. The cylinder should stop rotating within seven (7) seconds after the door is opened 3″ (7.5 cm). If not, adjust the cylinder door interlock.

5. Load the tumbler with clothes or clean rags.

6. Start the tumbler.

7. Check the air flow switch operation by opening the lint panel. The heating system should shut off when the lint panel is opened approximately 1-1/2″ (3.81 cm) on an empty load, or 6″ (15.24 cm) with a full load. Adjust if necessary.

8. Turn off the tumbler.

The air flow switch is set at the factory. However, if adjustment is needed, follow these steps. NOTE: The control panel must be in place and the access door closed before attempting to adjust.

1. Load the tumbler.

2. Start the tumbler. Open the lint panel 6 inches (15.24 cm). The airflow disc should move away from the cabinet, opening the switch contacts and shutting off the heat system. This indicates proper operation.

3. If the switch does not open as described, it needs to be MORE sensitive. Depress the spring clip and move the counterweight toward the disc. Retest and continue moving the counterweight toward the disc until it operates correctly.

4. If the switch opens BEFORE the lint panel is opened the proper distance, it needs to be LESS sensitive. Depress the spring clip and move the counterweight away from the disc. Retest and continue moving the counterweight away from the disc until it operates correctly.

Loading Door Switch Adjustment:

1. Start the tumbler.

2. Slowly open the loading door. The cylinder and heating system should stop when the door is open 3″ (7.5 cm) plus or minus 1/4″ (0.635 cm).

3. Slowly close the door. The switch should close with an audible “click” at the same 3″ distance.

4. If it does not close correctly, close the door completely, loosen the lower screw on the switch coupler, rotate the coupler COUNTERCLOCKWISE until it stops, and retighten the screw. Then, re-verify the operation from step 1.

Cylinder Door Strike Adjustment:

The door strike must be adjusted to have sufficient tension to hold the door closed. Proper adjustment is when 8 to 15 pounds (35.6 N – 66.7 N) of pull is required to open the door. To adjust, open the door, loosen the jamnut on the strike, and turn the door strike screw in or out as required. Retighten the jamnut when finished.

To reduce the risk of serious injury or death, disconnect power to the tumbler before performing this operation.

1. Remove the guard from the rear of the tumbler.

2. Proper tension is when the belt can be depressed approximately 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) with light thumb pressure at a point midway between the sheave and motor pulley.

3. To adjust, loosen the adjusting bolt holding the idler housing assembly to the housing support.

4. To tighten the V-belt, loosen the lower nut on the adjusting bolt and turn the bolt up until the belt has proper tension. To loosen the V-belt, loosen the top nut on the adjusting bolt and turn the bolt down. Tighten the nuts when finished.

5. Replace the guard on the rear of the tumbler. The guard MUST be installed after adjustment is made.

Note: The upper Poly V-belt is self-adjusting and requires no adjustment.

Daily:

• Make certain the drying cycle has ended.

• Unlock and remove the lint panel.

• Remove accumulated lint in the lint compartment.

• Clean lint from the lint screen. Replace immediately if torn.

• Ensure the lint screen covers the entire opening in the lint screen hood.

• Wipe any accumulated lint off the thermostat sensing probe.

• Replace and securely lock the lint panel.

Monthly:

• Perform daily cleaning.

• Deactivate the electrical circuit.

• Remove the exhaust duct from the rear of the tumbler and clean out all accumulated lint. Reinstall the duct.

• Inspect the entire duct work assembly and clean out all accumulated lint.

• Energize the electrical circuit.

Quarterly:

• Perform daily and monthly cleaning.

• Deactivate the electrical circuit.

• Clean accumulated lint and other debris from front and back motor air vents.

• Inspect belts for wear and proper tension.

• Reinstall the rear drive guard.

• Energize the electrical circuit.

Biannually:

• Perform all daily, monthly, and quarterly tasks.

• Remove or open all panels and check accessible bolts, nuts, screws, terminals, and fittings for tightness.

• Open the electrical junction box cover and inspect all electrical and grounding connections for security. Tighten any loose connections.

To decommission your SPEED QUEEN JCB30WE, follow these steps:

1. Turn off the electrical supply external to the machine.

2. Turn off the electrical disconnect on the machine.

3. Turn off any gas supply external to the machine (if applicable).

4. Turn off the manual gas shut-off valve on the machine (if applicable).

5. Turn off any steam supply external to the machine (if applicable).

6. Remove all electric, gas, and steam connections.
