To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, serious injury, or death when using your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH tumbler, follow these basic precautions:

• Read all instructions before using the tumbler.

• DO NOT tamper with controls.

• DO NOT bypass any safety devices.

• Always follow the fabric care instructions supplied by the garment manufacturer.

• Remove laundry immediately after the tumbler stops.

• DO NOT reach into the tumbler if the cylinder is revolving.

To avoid creating any flammable vapors which may explode, ignite, or cause corrosive damage, DO NOT dry the following materials in the SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH tumbler:

• Articles that have been cleaned in, soaked in, washed in or spotted with gasoline, dry cleaning solvents or other flammable/explosive substances.

• Plastics or articles containing foam rubber or similarly textured rubberlike materials.

• Articles that have traces of flammable substances like cooking oil, machine oil, flammable chemicals, or thinner.

• Articles containing wax or cleaning chemicals.

• Fiberglass curtains or draperies (unless the label says it can be done).

To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, serious injury or death to persons when using your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH dryer, follow these basic precautions:

1. Do not allow children to play on or in the tumbler. Close supervision of children is necessary when the tumbler is used near children. This is a safety rule for all appliances.

2. Before the tumbler is removed from service or discarded, remove the door to the drying compartment.

3. Do not install or store the tumbler where it will be exposed to water and/or weather.

4. Failure to install, maintain, and/or operate this machine according to the manufacturer’s instructions may result in conditions which can produce serious injury, death and/or property damage.

5. Run tumbler with a load before putting tumbler into service.

6. Always disconnect the electrical power to the tumbler before servicing. Disconnect power by shutting off the appropriate circuit breaker or fuse and by turning off the disconnect switch located on the rear of the tumbler.

7. All manually operated models are factory-equipped with an emergency stop button located on the front panel. If the emergency stop function is desired on coin-operated models, an external emergency stop switch may be installed as specified on the machine wiring diagram. Activation of the emergency stop switch stops all machine control circuit functions, but does not remove all electrical power from machine.

The following warning labels will be found on the SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH drying tumbler:

• A clothes dryer produces combustible lint. TUMBLER MUST BE EXHAUSTED OUTDOORS.

• Do not touch rotating parts.

• WARNING!

• Do not touch surface until it has cooled.

• Do not operate without guards in place.

• Disconnect electrical power before servicing.

• To reduce risk of accumulating unsafe concentrations of combustion gases, tumbler MUST BE EXHAUSTED OUTDOORS.

Additionally, a large warning label states:

– DO NOT put articles soiled with flammable liquids or flammable cleaning solvents in dryer.

– DO NOT store or use flammable liquids near this appliance.

– DO NOT spray or store aerosols in the vicinity of this appliance.

– Various chemicals used in laundries contain chlorine (some dry cleaning fluids, aerosols, bleaches). When decomposed in a flame, these materials may rapidly corrode and destroy this appliance.

– Dryer must be exhausted outdoors, and area around dryer must be free of lint because dryer produces combustible lint.

– DO NOT dry articles containing foam rubber, plastic or similarly textured rubberlike materials.

– Use for drying water washed fabrics only.

– DO NOT put articles soiled with vegetable or cooking oil in dryer as these oils may not be removed during washing. Due to the remaining oil, the fabric may catch on fire by itself.

– DO NOT reach into the dryer until all moving parts have stopped.

– DO NOT let children play in the dryer.

For your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH tumbler, the model and serial numbers will be found on the nameplate. This nameplate is located on the rear of the tumbler or underneath the door hinge.

Upon delivery of your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH, visually inspect the crate, carton, and parts for any visible shipping damage. If there is damage or signs of possible damage, have the carrier note the condition on the shipping papers before signing the receipt, or inform the carrier as soon as it is discovered. A written claim should be filed with the carrier immediately if articles are damaged or missing.

Remove the crate and protective cover as soon as possible and check items against the packing list.

IMPORTANT: Remove the shipping tape from the two back draft dampers located in the exhaust thimble.

For the installation of your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH, the following materials must be obtained locally:

• One circuit breaker.

• One steam shut-off gate valve for the steam service line to be connected upstream of the solenoid steam valve.

• Two steam shut-off gate valves for each condensate return line.

• Flexible steam hoses with a 125 psig (8.79 kg/sq. cm) working pressure for connecting steam coils.

• Two steam traps for the steam coil outlet to the condensate return line.

• One steam pressure relief valve rated at 125 psig (8.79 kg/cm²).

Floor: The SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH may be installed on any level floor capable of supporting 100 pounds per square foot (488 kg/m²). Floor covering materials such as carpeting or tile should be removed.

Layout: Whenever possible, the tumbler should be installed along an outside wall where duct length can be kept to a minimum, and make-up air can be easily accessed. Construction must not block airflow at the top rear of the tumbler, as this would prevent adequate air supply to the tumbler’s combustion chamber.

Venting: For maximum efficiency and minimum lint accumulation, tumbler air must be exhausted to the outdoors by the shortest possible route.

Make-Up Air: A tumbler is forced air exhausted and requires provisions for make-up air to replace the air exhausted by the tumbler. The recommended make-up air opening is 144 square inches (928 sq. cm).

Properly sized exhaust ducts are essential for the operation of the SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH. Exhaust ducts must be made of sheet metal or other noncombustible material, equivalent in strength and corrosion resistance to galvanized sheet steel not less than 0.0195 inches (0.495 mm) thick.

Individual Venting:

• It is preferred to exhaust tumblers individually to the outdoors. The cross-sectional area of the installed venting must not be less than the cross-sectional area of the tumbler’s exhaust thimble.

• The maximum allowable length of venting is 14 feet (4.3 m) plus two 90° elbows or equivalent. If the duct length exceeds this, the diameter must be increased by 10% for each additional 20 feet (6.1 m).

• With the tumbler in operation, airflow at any point in the duct must be at least 1200 feet (366 m) per minute to ensure lint remains airborne.

Collector Venting:

• A main collector duct may be used if sized correctly. This should be increased if the collector length exceeds 20 feet (6.1 m).

• Individual tumbler ducts must enter the collector duct at a 45° angle in the direction of airflow. Never connect a tumbler duct at a 90° angle to the collector duct.

The table below shows the equivalent length of straight duct for a 90° elbow:

Electrical requirements for the SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH tumbler vary based on the model configuration. Refer to the tables below. Aluminum wire should not be used.

Terminal Block Connections:

High Pressure Steam Models:

All electrical connections for the SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH should be made by a qualified electrician. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, de-energize the electrical circuit before making connections.

1. Install a circuit breaker as close to the tumbler as possible. A separate circuit breaker should be provided for each tumbler.

2. a. Connect conduit-encased leads to the circuit breaker.

b. Turn “off” the disconnect switch on the tumbler and open the junction box.

c. Insert the conduit-encased leads through a knockout hole in the junction box.

d. Connect wire leads to the disconnect switch. For 3-phase units, connect one lead to each connection point.

e. Connect a ground wire to the PE Busbar in the junction box.

3. For three-phase units, check the electrical service phase sequence:

a. Energize the electrical service and momentarily start the tumbler. Check the direction of cylinder rotation. If the cylinder rotates clockwise (viewed from the front), the phase sequence is correct.

b. If the cylinder rotates counterclockwise, disconnect power and reverse any two leads at the connections.

4. Close the junction box cover and turn “on” the disconnect switch.

Positioning:

The SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH tumbler may be removed from its shipping skid before or after moving to the installation location. To remove it from the skid, unscrew the four shipping capscrews (one at each corner). The lint panel door may need to be removed to access the two front capscrews. Do not discard these four capscrews, as they are the leveling legs.

Screw the four leveling legs back into the level adjusting fittings from the top. Slide the tumbler to its permanent location. Keep the tumbler as close to the floor as possible, ensuring all four legs rest firmly on the floor so the weight is evenly distributed and the tumbler does not rock.

Leveling:

The SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH should be leveled within 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from front to rear, and 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from side to side. To check the front-to-rear level, rotate the clothes cylinder until one rib is at the bottom, then place a level on that bottom rib. The side-to-side level should be checked by placing a level on the front and rear of the top panel.

For the SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH, high pressure machines like the 50CSH model require a constant 80 to 100 psig (5.62 to 7.03 kg/sq. cm) steam service for optimum operation.

Steam Inlet Connections:

1. Install a manual shut-off gate valve in the condensate return line after the steam trap for each coil.

2. Connect the steam solenoid valve to the related steam coil inlet connection with nipples, flex hoses, unions, a tee, and a pressure relief valve.

3. Install a gate shut-off valve in the steam supply line. Connect this valve’s outlet to the solenoid steam valve inlet connection.

Condensate Return Connections:

1. Connect a flexible hose to each steam coil outlet.

2. Install a strainer to the ends of each flexible hose.

3. Install a steam trap to each strainer. IMPORTANT: The steam trap must be installed a minimum of 10 inches (25.4 cm) below the steam coil outlet connections.

4. Install a gate shut-off valve to each steam trap.

5. Connect to the condensate return lines.

The following table details the requirements for the 50CSH model:

Before regular use of your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH, perform these checks:

1. Remove or open all panels and inspect accessible bolts, nuts, screws, terminals, and fittings for security.

2. Check belt tension and adjust if necessary (refer to the Adjustment Section).

3. Energize the electrical circuit to the tumbler circuit breaker and turn on the tumbler disconnect switch.

4. Turn on the steam supply.

5. Press and hold in the Push-to-Start Button for approximately three (3) seconds. Release the button and open the cylinder door. The cylinder should stop rotating within seven (7) seconds after the door is opened 3″ (7.5 cm) plus or minus 1/4″ (0.635 cm). If the cylinder does not stop rotating, adjust the cylinder door interlock.

6. Load the tumbler with clothes or clean rags.

7. Start the tumbler. Since this is a steam model, no burner flame adjustment is necessary.

8. Steam models do not have an air flow switch, so this check is not applicable.

9. Turn off the tumbler.

10. This step is not applicable to steam models.

To operate your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH with a manual dual timer, follow these steps:

1. Set the temperature selector to HIGH and set the drying and cool down selectors to their maximum settings.

2. Press and hold in the Push-to-Start Button for approximately three (3) seconds. The motor will start, the heat system will turn on, the drying indicator will light, and the drying selector will rotate counterclockwise.

3. When the drying selector reaches zero (0), the heat system will shut off, the drying indicator will turn off, the cooling indicator will light, and the cooling selector will rotate counterclockwise.

4. When the cooling selector reaches zero (0), the motor will stop and the cooling indicator will turn off, indicating the drying cycle is finished.

The loading door switch turns off the SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH whenever the door is opened. To adjust it, follow these steps:

1. Start the tumbler following its operating instructions.

2. Slowly open the loading door. The cylinder and heating system should stop when the door is open 3 inches (7.5 cm) plus or minus 1/4 inch (0.635 cm).

3. Slowly close the loading door. The switch should close with an audible “click” when the door is closed 3 inches (7.5 cm) plus or minus 1/4 inch (0.635 cm).

4. If the switch does not close at the correct point:

a. Close the loading door completely.

b. Loosen the lower screw on the switch coupler and rotate the coupler COUNTERCLOCKWISE until it stops.

c. Tighten the lower screw on the switch coupler.

d. Return to step 1 to verify the new adjustment.

The door strike on your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH must have sufficient tension to hold the loading door closed against the force of a tumbling load. Proper adjustment is achieved when a pull force of 8 to 15 pounds (35.6 N – 66.7 N) is required to open the door.

To adjust, open the door, loosen the jamnut on the door strike, and turn the door strike screw in or out as required. Once adjusted, retighten the jamnut.

Before performing this operation on your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH, disconnect power to the tumbler to reduce the risk of serious injury or death. The guard must be reinstalled after adjustment.

Proper tension is when the belt can be depressed approximately 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) with light thumb pressure at a point midway between the sheave and motor pulley.

1. Remove the guard from the rear of the tumbler.

2. To adjust belt tension, loosen the adjusting bolt that holds the idler housing assembly to the housing support.

3. To tighten the V-belt:

a. Loosen the lower nut on the adjusting bolt.

b. Turn the bolt up until the belt has proper tension.

c. Tighten the upper and lower nut or adjusting bolt.

4. To loosen the V-belt:

a. Loosen the top nut on the adjusting bolt.

b. Turn the bolt down until the belt has proper tension.

c. Tighten the upper and lower nut or adjusting bolt.

5. Replace the guard on the rear of the tumbler.

6. The upper belt (Poly V-belt) requires no adjustment as it is self-adjusting.

Perform the following maintenance daily on your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH:

1. Make certain the drying cycle has ended.

2. Open the loading door.

3. Unlock and remove the lint panel.

4. Remove accumulated lint in the lint compartment. Lint left in the compartment will be drawn back onto the lint screen and restrict air circulation.

5. Clean lint from the lint screen. If the lint screen is torn, replace it immediately.

6. Ensure the lint screen covers the entire opening in the lint screen hood. Gaps will allow lint to flow into the ductwork.

7. Wipe any accumulated lint off the thermostat sensing probe. Lint buildup on the probe will cause overheating.

8. Replace and securely lock the lint panel.

Perform the following maintenance monthly on your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH:

1. Perform daily cleaning of accumulated lint.

2. Deactivate the electrical circuit by turning off the electrical disconnect switch on the rear of the tumbler.

3. (This step is missing from the document, please proceed to step 4)

4. Remove the exhaust duct from the rear of the tumbler and clean out all accumulated lint.

5. Reinstall the exhaust duct.

6. Remove the bottom cover from the vertical exhaust duct and clean out all accumulated lint.

7. Reinstall the vertical exhaust duct cover.

8. Inspect the entire duct work assembly and clean out all accumulated lint.

9. Energize the electrical circuit to the tumbler by turning on the electrical disconnect switch on the rear of the tumbler.

Perform the following maintenance quarterly on your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH:

1. Deactivate the electrical circuit by turning off the disconnect switch on the rear of the tumbler.

2. Perform daily cleaning of accumulated lint.

3. Perform monthly inspection and cleaning of accumulated lint.

4. Clean accumulated lint and other debris from the front and back motor air vents.

5. For gas models, shut off gas supply. (This step is not applicable to the steam-powered SC50CSH).

6. Remove the screws holding the rear drive guard to the back of the tumbler.

7. Inspect belts for wear and proper tension (refer to the Adjustments section).

8. Reinstall the rear drive guard to the back of the tumbler.

9. Energize the electrical circuit to the tumbler by turning on the electrical disconnect switch.

10. For gas models, turn on gas supply. (This step is not applicable to the steam-powered SC50CSH).

Perform the following maintenance biannually (twice a year) on your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH:

1. Deactivate the electrical circuit by turning off the disconnect switch on the rear of the tumbler.

2. Perform daily cleaning of accumulated lint.

3. Perform monthly inspection and cleaning of accumulated lint.

4. Perform quarterly inspection and cleaning of accumulated lint.

5. Remove or open all panels and check accessible bolts, nuts, screws, terminals, and fittings for tightness.

6. For gas models, shut off gas supply. (This step is not applicable to the steam-powered SC50CSH).

7. For gas models, inspect gas connections. (This step is not applicable to the steam-powered SC50CSH).

8. Close and securely lock the service panel.

9. Open the electrical junction box cover and inspect all electrical and grounding connections for security. Tighten any loose electrical connections.

10. Close the electrical junction box cover and energize the electrical circuit by turning on the electrical disconnect switch.

11. For gas models, turn on gas supply. (This step is not applicable to the steam-powered SC50CSH).

To decommission your SPEED QUEEN SC50CSH, follow these instructions:

1. Turn off the electrical supply external to the machine.

2. Turn off the electrical disconnect on the machine.

3. Turn off the gas supply external to the machine (if applicable).

4. Turn off the manual gas shut-off valve on the machine (if applicable).

5. Turn off the steam supply external to the machine.

6. Remove all electric, gas, and steam connections.
