To ensure safe usage of your NOKIA 5700, please follow these guidelines:

SWITCH ON SAFELY: Do not switch the device on when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger.

ROAD SAFETY COMES FIRST: Obey all local laws. Always keep your hands free to operate the vehicle while driving.

INTERFERENCE: All wireless devices may be susceptible to interference, which could affect performance.

SWITCH OFF IN HOSPITALS: Follow any restrictions. Switch the device off near medical equipment.

SWITCH OFF IN AIRCRAFT: Follow any restrictions. Wireless devices can cause interference in aircraft.

SWITCH OFF WHEN REFUELING: Do not use the device at a refueling point. Do not use near fuel or chemicals.

SWITCH OFF NEAR BLASTING: Follow any restrictions. Do not use the device where blasting is in progress.

USE SENSIBLY: Use only in the normal position as explained in the product documentation. Do not touch the antenna unnecessarily.

QUALIFIED SERVICE: Only qualified personnel may install or repair this product.

ENHANCEMENTS AND BATTERIES: Use only approved enhancements and batteries. Do not connect incompatible products.

WATER-RESISTANCE: Your device is not water-resistant. Keep it dry.

BACK-UP COPIES: Remember to make back-up copies or keep a written record of all important information stored in your device.

CONNECTING TO OTHER DEVICES: When connecting to any other device, read its user guide for detailed safety instructions.

To make an emergency call with your NOKIA 5700, follow these steps:

1. Ensure the phone function of the device is switched on and in service. If the device is off, switch it on. Check for adequate signal strength. Some networks may require a valid SIM card to be properly inserted.

2. Press the end key as many times as needed to clear the display and return to the standby mode.

3. Enter the official emergency number for your present location. Emergency numbers vary by location.

4. Press the call key.

When making an emergency call, provide all necessary information as accurately as possible. Do not end the call until given permission to do so.

Note: If certain features like call barring are in use, you may need to turn them off first. If the device is in the offline profile, you must change the profile to activate the phone function before you can make an emergency call.

Your NOKIA 5700 uses several codes for security:

Lock code: This 5-digit code protects your phone against unauthorized use. The preset code is 12345. You can change this code.

PIN code: The Personal Identification Number (4 to 8 digits) protects your SIM card against unauthorized use and is usually supplied with the SIM card.

PIN2 code: This code (4 to 8 digits) may be supplied with the SIM card and is required for some functions.

PUK codes: The Personal Unblocking Key (PUK) and Universal Personal Unblocking Key (UPUK) codes (8 digits) are required to change a blocked PIN or UPIN code. The PUK2 code is required to change a blocked PIN2 code. If these codes are not supplied with your SIM card, contact your service provider.

Barring password: This 4-digit password is required when using the Call barring service. You can obtain this password from your service provider.

Always switch the device off and disconnect the charger before performing these steps:

1. To open the back cover, turn the lower part of the phone 90 degrees left or right so the number keys are on the same side as the display, and then lift the back cover. For the first time, you may need to use a plastic strip to lift it.

2. To remove the battery, lift it out from its compartment.

3. To release the SIM card holder, slide it backwards (away from the top of the phone) and lift it up.

4. Insert the (U)SIM card into the holder. Ensure the golden contact area on the card is facing downwards and the beveled corner faces upwards.

5. Close the SIM card holder and slide it forward (towards the top of the phone) to lock it.

6. Replace the battery and then replace the back cover.

You can insert or remove a microSD card without switching the phone off. Use only compatible microSD cards approved by Nokia.

To insert a microSD card:

1. Open the side door covering the memory card slot.

2. Place the microSD card in the slot with the golden contact area facing down. Push the card gently until it locks into place.

3. Close the side door tightly.

To remove a microSD card:

1. Open the side door.

2. Gently push the card in to release it. “Remove memory card and press ‘OK'” will be displayed.

3. Pull the card out and select OK.

4. Close the side door tightly.

Important: Do not remove the memory card in the middle of an operation when the card is being accessed, as this may damage the card and the device.

1. Connect the charger to a wall socket.

2. Open the side door on your NOKIA 5700.

3. Connect the charger plug to the charger connector in the phone.

4. After charging is complete, disconnect the charger from the phone and the wall socket. Close the side door on the phone tightly.

If the battery is completely discharged, it may take a few minutes before the charging indicator appears. Charging a BP-5M battery with an AC-5 charger takes approximately 80 minutes.

To switch the phone on or off, press and hold the power key.

If the phone asks for a PIN code, enter the PIN code, and select OK.

If the phone asks for the lock code, enter the lock code (the factory setting is 12345), and select OK.

Your NOKIA 5700 has five functional modes, which you can switch between by turning the lower part of the phone:

Phone mode: Activated when the number keys are on the same side as the display. This is the standard operating mode.

Camera mode: To activate, turn the lower part of the phone 90 degrees to the left (for the main camera) or 90 degrees to the right (for self-portraits) from the phone mode.

Music mode: To activate, turn the lower part of the phone 180 degrees to the right from the phone mode. The music playback keys will be on the same side as the display.

Video call mode: During a video call, turn the lower part of the phone so the camera lens points toward you to let the recipient see you.

Video view mode: When viewing a video or image, turn the lower part of the phone 90 degrees to the left. The display will change to landscape mode.

Important: Do not try to rotate the lower part of the phone more than 90 degrees to the left or 180 degrees to the right, as forcing it further will damage the phone.

When active standby is enabled, your NOKIA 5700 display provides fast access to frequently used applications.

To enable or disable this feature, select Menu > Settings > Phone sett. > General > Personalisation > Standby mode > Active standby > On or Off.

When active, you can scroll to and select applications or events like calendar and to-do items directly from the standby screen.

The Offline profile lets you use your NOKIA 5700 without connecting to a wireless network. When this profile is active, the connection to the cellular network is turned off, indicated by an ‘X’ in the signal strength area. This allows you to use features like the music player in radio-sensitive environments like airplanes or hospitals.

To activate the Offline profile, press the power key and select it from the list.

To leave the Offline profile, press the power key and select another profile.

Important: In the Offline profile, you cannot make or receive any calls or use other features that require network coverage. Calls may still be possible to the official emergency number programmed into your device. To make regular calls, you must first activate another profile.

To prevent accidental keypresses, you can lock the keypad.

In Phone Mode:

To lock: Press the left selection key and then * within 1.5 seconds.

To unlock: Select Unlock, and then press * within 1.5 seconds.

In Music Mode:

To lock: Press the power key quickly, and select Lock keypad.

To unlock: Select Unlock > OK.

To set automatic keypad lock:

Select Menu > Settings > Phone sett. > General > Security > Phone and SIM card > Keypad autolock period > User defined and set the desired time.

1. In the standby mode, enter the phone number, including the area code.

For international calls, press * twice to enter the “+” prefix.

2. Press the call key to dial the number.

3. To end the call, press the end key.

Alternatively, you can make a call from your contacts by selecting Menu > Contacts, scrolling to the desired name, and pressing the call key.

To answer a call: Press the call key.

To reject a call: Press the end key, or select Options > Reject.

To mute the ringing tone without rejecting: Select Silence.

To reject a call with a text message: Select Options > Send text message. You can activate and edit the default message by going to Menu > Settings > Phone sett. > Phone > Call > Reject call with SMS.

To make a video call, you may need a USIM card and be in a UMTS network coverage area. Video calls can only be made between two compatible parties.

1. Enter the phone number in standby mode, or select a contact from Menu > Contacts.

2. Select Options > Call > Video call.

A video call is active when you see two video images (yours and the recipient’s) and hear audio through the loudspeaker. During the call, you can turn the lower part of the phone so the camera faces you to share your live video.

To end the video call, press the end key.

Your NOKIA 5700 offers two text input modes. Press * to switch between traditional and predictive text input.

Traditional Text Input:

Press a number key (1-9) repeatedly until the desired character appears. For example, to write ‘c’, press the 2 key three times. If the next letter is on the same key, wait for the cursor to appear before entering it. Press # to change character case (Abc, abc, ABC).

Predictive Text Input:

1. Press each key (2-9) only once for each letter of the word you want to write. The phone will predict the word.

2. If the suggested word is correct, scroll right or press 0 to insert a space and confirm it.

3. If the word is not correct, press * repeatedly to cycle through other matching words. If your word is not in the dictionary, select Spell to enter it manually using traditional input and add it to the dictionary.

1. To select text, press and hold # and at the same time scroll left or right to highlight letters and words, or up and down to highlight lines of text.

2. To copy the highlighted text to the clipboard, press and hold # and at the same time select Copy.

3. To insert the copied text, scroll to the desired insertion point, press and hold #, and at the same time select Paste.

1. To create a new message, select Menu > Messaging > New message > Text message, Multimedia message, Audio message, or E-mail.

2. In the “To” field, press the scroll key to select recipients from Contacts, or manually enter the phone number or e-mail address. Separate multiple recipients with a semicolon (;).

3. For multimedia or e-mail messages, scroll down and enter a subject.

4. Scroll down to the message field and write your message.

5. To add attachments to a multimedia message or e-mail, select Options > Insert object or Insert and choose the item type (e.g., Image, Sound clip).

6. When you are finished, select Options > Send to send the message.

To copy names and numbers from your SIM card to the phone’s memory:

1. Select Menu > Contacts.

2. Select Options > SIM contacts > SIM directory.

3. Scroll to a name you want to copy or mark multiple names.

4. Select Options > Copy to Contacts.

1. Go to the Gallery by selecting Menu > Gallery.

2. Open the Images folder.

3. Scroll to the image you want to use.

4. Select Options > Use image > Set as wallpaper.

1. First, transfer music to your device.

2. Activate the music mode by turning the lower part of the phone 180 degrees to the right so the playback control keys are on the same side as the display. This will start the Music player.

3. In the Music menu, select a category, such as All songs or Albums.

4. Select the music you want to play.

5. Use the dedicated media keys to control playback:

Play/Pause/Stop: Press to play or pause. Press and hold to stop.

Rewind: Press to skip backwards or rewind.

Fast Forward: Press to skip forward or fast forward.

You can adjust the volume using the volume keys on the side of the phone.

1. In the music player, go to the music menu and select Playlists.

2. Select Options > Create playlist.

3. Enter a name for the playlist and select OK.

4. Select artists to find the songs you want to include. Press the scroll key to add items to the playlist.

5. When you have made your selections, select Done. The playlist is saved to the memory card if one is inserted.

1. Activate the camera by turning the lower part of the phone 90 degrees left.

2. To switch from image mode to video mode, select Options > Video mode or scroll right. A video camera icon will appear on the display.

3. To start recording, press the capture key or the scroll key.

4. To pause the recording, press the capture key.

5. To stop the recording, press and hold the capture key.

The recorded video is saved to the Videos folder in the Gallery.

A muvee is a short, edited video clip containing video, images, music, and text.

1. Select Menu > Media > Movie.

2. Mark the videos you want to include, then scroll right to select the images and mark them.

3. Select Options > Create muvee.

4. Select a style for the muvee from the style list. The Movie director will automatically create the muvee using the chosen style with default music and text.

Profiles allow you to customize phone tones for different events and environments.

1. Select Menu > Personalis. > Profiles.

2. To activate a profile, scroll to it and select Activate.

Tip: To quickly switch to the Silent profile from any other profile, press and hold # in the standby mode.

3. To personalize a profile, scroll to it and select Personalise. From here you can change settings like ringing tone, message alert tone, and keypad tones.

The cache is a memory location that temporarily stores data from websites you have visited. It is recommended to clear the cache after accessing confidential information.

To empty the cache, select Menu > Web > Browser > Options > Clear privacy data > Clear cache.

To clear all privacy data, including cache, cookies, passwords, and browsing history, select Menu > Web > Browser > Options > Clear privacy data > All.

1. Select Menu > Organiser > Clock.

2. Scroll right to the Alarm view.

3. Select Options > New alarm.

4. Enter the desired alarm time.

5. Select whether and when the alarm should be repeated.

6. Select Done.

When the alarm sounds, you can select Stop to turn it off or Snooze to stop it for 5 minutes.

1. Ensure Bluetooth is turned on in both your NOKIA 5700 and the receiving device.

2. Open the application containing the item you wish to send (e.g., Contacts, Gallery).

3. Scroll to the item you want to send.

4. Select Options > Send > Via Bluetooth.

5. The phone will search for Bluetooth devices within range. Select the device to which you want to send the data.

6. If the other device requires pairing, you will be prompted to enter a passcode. Create a passcode (1-16 digits) and have the owner of the other device enter the same code. After pairing, the device is saved to your Paired devices list.

7. Once the connection is established, the data will be sent.

You can set the default behavior for when you connect your NOKIA 5700 to a PC with a USB cable.

Select Menu > Settings > Connectivity > USB.

From here, you can select the default USB mode from the following options:

PC Suite: To use the phone with Nokia PC Suite.

Media player: To synchronize media files with Windows Media Player.

Data transfer: To access files on the memory card as a removable drive.

You can also select Ask on connection > Yes to have the device ask you for the desired mode each time you connect the USB cable.

Only install applications from trusted sources.

1. Open the application manager by selecting Menu > Settings > Data mgr. > App. mgr.

To install an application:

1. In App. manager, scroll to the installation file (.jad, .jar, or .sis extension).

2. Select Options > Install and follow the on-screen prompts.

To remove an application:

1. In App. manager, scroll to the software package you want to remove.

2. Select Options > Remove.

Formatting the memory card will erase all data on it.

1. Select Menu > Settings > Data mgr. > Memory.

2. Select Options > Format memory card > Yes.

3. You may be prompted to enter a name for the memory card.

To get the best performance from your battery, follow these guidelines:

Use only Nokia approved batteries and chargers designated for this device.

Unplug the charger from the electrical plug and the device when not in use.

Do not leave a fully charged battery connected to a charger, as overcharging may shorten its lifetime.

If left unused, a fully charged battery will lose its charge over time.

Keep the battery between 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F). Extreme temperatures can reduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery.

Do not short-circuit the battery. This can happen when a metallic object like a coin causes a direct connection of the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals.

Never use any charger or battery that is damaged.

*Variation in operation times may occur depending on SIM card, network and usage settings, usage style and environments.

Your device is a product of superior design and should be treated with care:

Keep the device dry. Liquids or moisture can contain minerals that will corrode electronic circuits.

Do not use or store the device in dusty, dirty areas.

Do not store the device in hot areas. High temperatures can shorten the life of electronic devices and damage batteries.

Do not store the device in cold areas. Moisture can form inside and damage circuit boards when it returns to normal temperature.

Do not attempt to open the device other than as instructed in the guide.

Do not drop, knock, or shake the device.

Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the device.

Do not paint the device.

Use a soft, clean, dry cloth to clean any lenses.

Always create a backup of data you want to keep.

Manufacturers of medical devices recommend that a minimum separation of 15.3 centimeters (6 inches) should be maintained between a wireless device and an implanted medical device, such as a pacemaker or implanted cardioverter defibrillator. Persons who have such devices should:

Always keep the wireless device more than 15.3 centimeters (6 inches) from the medical device when the wireless device is turned on.

Not carry the wireless device in a breast pocket.

Hold the wireless device to the ear opposite the medical device to minimize the potential for interference.

Turn the wireless device off immediately if there is any reason to suspect that interference is taking place.

Read and follow the directions from the manufacturer of their implanted medical device.
