If you smell gas, follow these safety instructions for your MABE GE MCL2040PSBB:

1. Do not try to light a match or cigarette, or turn on any gas or electrical appliance.

2. Do not touch any electrical switch; do not use any phone in your building.

3. Clear the room, building, or area of all occupants.

4. Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions carefully.

5. If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.

Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in a water heater that has not been used for two weeks or more. Hydrogen gas can be explosive. If the hot water has not been used for two weeks or more, prevent the possibility of damage or injury by turning on all hot water faucets and allowing them to run for several minutes before using any electrical appliance connected to the hot water system, like your MABE GE MCL2040PSBB. This procedure will allow any built-up hydrogen gas to escape. Since the gas is flammable, do not smoke or use an open flame or appliance during this process.

For the proper and safe installation of your MABE GE MCL2040PSBB, please follow these instructions:

Proper Installation:

• Properly ground the appliance to conform with all codes and ordinances.

• Install or store it where it will not be exposed to temperatures below freezing or to the weather, which could cause permanent damage.

• Connect to a properly rated, protected, and sized power supply circuit to avoid electrical overload.

• Remove all sharp packing items and dispose of all shipping materials properly.

Exhaust/Ducting (Gas Dryers):

• Gas dryers must be exhausted to the outside.

• Use only rigid metal 4″ diameter ductwork inside the dryer cabinet and for exhausting to the outdoors. Never use plastic or other combustible, easy-to-puncture ductwork.

Your Laundry Area:

• Keep the area underneath and around your appliance free of combustible materials (lint, paper, rags, etc.), gasoline, chemicals, or other flammable vapors and liquids.

• Keep the floor around your appliance clean and dry to reduce the possibility of slipping.

• Keep all laundry aids (detergents, bleaches, etc.) out of the reach of children, preferably in a locked cabinet.

• Never climb on, stand on, or allow children to play on or in the appliance.

• Do not store items that may burn or melt on top of the appliance or hang from the door.

Follow these steps to operate your MABE GE MCL2040PSBB:

Step 1: Add detergent, liquid bleach, and fabric softener (optional) to their respective dispensers.

Step 2: Add clothing to the washer drum.

Step 3: Select the load size and other wash options, then select the wash cycle.

Step 4: Close the lid and press START.

Start to wash: Place the load of clothes evenly around the infuser (preferably not over the infuser) so that the load is evenly distributed. The washing machine starts the cycle by turning the basket to accommodate the load for better cycle development.

Bulky Items: To wash your bulky items properly, a special accommodation is suggested. Take one end and insert it in a spiral shape, trying to keep the clothes arranged around the basket until ending at the other extreme. If the clothes exceed the indicated limit, you must compress slightly inside, making sure the volume is below the limit.

Waterproof Items: For waterproof, water-resistant items, only use the Bulky cycle. DO NOT use other cycles for items like diaper covers, waterproof bed covers, vehicle covers, sleeping bags, etc. Do not mix waterproof and non-waterproof items.

The Sanitized cycle on your MABE GE MCL2040PSBB is designed to eliminate bacteria, viruses, and germs found in clothing. For correct operation, you must use hot water; ensure that there is hot water in your installation. The cycle uses high-temperature water to ensure effectiveness.

1. Put the detergent in the bottom of the tub and then the clothes.

2. Wash high-cotton items like towels, jeans, sheets, bathrobes, etc.

3. For the best cycle performance, set the “Temperature” and “Water Level” knobs to the “Automatic” position.

1. Selecting cycles: Turn the knob to select from among the available programs depending on the type of clothes you are going to wash. Each program controls the duration and intensity of the washing process.

2. Temperatures: Select the water temperature for the wash and rinse cycles.

3a. Load size / 3b. Water level: There are 4 load/water levels and an automatic sensor. Select the one you need or let the automatic sensor do it for you.

4. Selecting functions: Press the select button repeatedly to choose the independent functions of the wash cycle (e.g., wash only, rinse only, wash and spin). The lights will turn on to indicate the selected functions.

5. Start/pause: Use this button to start operating your washer or to pause it once in operation. To resume, press the button again.

Your MABE GE MCL2040PSBB washer has a knob with 8 main programs designed to better clean and care for your clothes. Refer to the table below:

You can use the “Personal touch mode” on your MABE GE MCL2040PSBB to select specific stages of the wash cycle:

Wash only: This function will fill the washer and then provide agitation. At the end of the wash stage, the spin light will turn on, but the washer will not drain the water.

Rinse only: This function drains and spins the wash. Then, it will fill the tub with clean water and provide rinse agitation to complete the stage, without draining the water at the end. The rinse light will stay on.

Only wash and rise: It will fill the washer and provide wash agitation. At the end, it will drain the washer, and the spin light will come on. After that, it will fill the tub with clean water and provide rinse agitation to complete the cycle without draining the water at the end. The Rinse light will stay on.

Only wash and spin: This function will fill the washer and provide wash agitation. At the end, it will drain the water and spin the clothes to complete the cycle. The spin light will stay on.

Only rise and spin: This function will drain the water. The spin light will turn on, and the tub will be filled with clean water to provide rinse agitation, and then it will drain the water and spin the clothing.

Using the fabric softener dispenser:

1. Make sure the dispenser is securely attached to the agitator.

2. Use only liquid diluted fabric softener. Pour into the dispenser using the amount recommended on the package. Never pour fabric softener directly on clothes, as it may stain them.

3. Add water to the dispenser until it reaches the maximum fill line.

4. Select the FABRIC SOFTENER setting knob on the control panel for proper dispersion.

Cleaning the fabric softener dispenser:

1. Remove the dispenser from the top of the agitator.

2. Separate the dispenser cup from the cover by grasping the top and pushing down on the inside of the cup with your fingers.

3. To clean the dispenser, soak both the dispenser cup and cover in the following solution: 3.8 liters of warm water, 1/4 cup (60 ml) of heavy-duty liquid detergent, and 1 cup (240 ml) bleach.

4. If necessary, loosen any dirt accumulation with a clean, soft cloth after soaking. Do not use a stiff brush.

5. Rinse and reassemble the dispenser. Place the dispenser back on the agitator.

The water fill dilutes chlorine bleach as the washer fills for the wash cycle.

1. Check clothing care labels for special instructions.

2. Measure liquid bleach carefully, following instructions on the bottle. Never pour undiluted liquid chlorine bleach directly onto clothes or into the wash basket. Do not pour powdered bleach into the bleach funnel.

3. Before starting the washer, pour the measured amount of bleach directly into the bleach funnel. Avoid splashing or overfilling the dispenser. If you prefer to use powdered bleach, add it to the wash basket with the detergent.

Important: Do not mix chlorine bleach with ammonia or acids such as vinegar and/or rust remover. Mixing can produce a toxic gas which may cause death.

a) Automatic More Drying Cycles: During the drying cycle, the knob will not turn until the thermostat sensor indicates the clothes are dry; then the knob will automatically turn to the off position.

• High: For regular to heavy cottons. For most loads select OPTIMUM DRY.

• Sanitized: Do not use for delicate clothing like lycra or sports. Do not put in more than 6 clothes that have laces or ribbons. Use for garments with cotton and most white clothes.

• Medium: For synthetics, blends, and items labeled permanent press.

• Low: For delicates, synthetics, and special care knits. Items labeled tumble dry low.

• Easy Care: For wrinkle-free garments, permanent ironing, and items that need special care when drying.

• Cottons: For garments with cotton, fabrics combined with cotton, and most white garments.

• Delicates: For mostly synthetic clothes, small thin, baby clothes, or underwear that require special care.

b) Timed Drying Cycles (manual): The timer runs during the entire cycle.

• Dewrinkle: For removing wrinkles from items that are clean and very lightly damp.

• Fluff: For freshening or removing lint from already dry clothing.

Washer Care and Cleaning:

• Wash basket: Leave the lid open after washing to allow moisture to evaporate. To clean the basket, use a clean soft cloth dampened with liquid detergent, then rinse. Do not use harsh or gritty cleaners.

• Fill hoses: It is recommended to change hoses every 5 years.

• Exterior: Immediately wipe off any spills with a damp cloth. Try not to hit the surface with sharp objects.

Dryer Care and Cleaning:

• Exterior: Wipe or dust any spills with a damp cloth. Keep laundry pretreatment products away from the dryer as they may damage the control panel and finishes.

• The lint filter: Clean the filter before each use. Slide the grid out and move your fingers through the filter. To remove wax buildup from fabric softeners, wash the lint filter with soap and warm water. Dry completely before replacing. Have a qualified technician vacuum the lint from the dryer once a year.

• The exhaust duct: Inspect and clean the exhaust duct at least once a year to prevent clogging. Turn off the electrical supply, disconnect the duct, vacuum it with a hose attachment, and reconnect it.

• The exhaust hood: With a mirror, make sure the inner flaps move freely when operating and that there is no wildlife (birds, insects, etc.) nesting inside.

For the best drying performance, the dryer needs to be properly vented. The dryer will use more energy and run longer if ventilation does not meet the following specifications:

• Use only rigid metal 4″ diameter material for the duct inside the dryer cabinet. Use only rigid or flexible metal 4″ diameter material approved by UL for the duct of the exhaust leading to the outside.

• Do not use plastic or other combustible ductwork.

• Use the shortest length possible.

• Do not crush or collapse.

• Avoid resting the duct on sharp objects.

• Venting must conform to local building codes.

This may be caused by using too much detergent. Measure the detergent carefully. Use less soap if you have soft water, a smaller load, or a lightly soiled load.

Water leaks can be due to several reasons:

• Fill hoses or drain hose is improperly connected: Make sure hose connections are tight at faucets and washers are in place. Ensure the end of the drain hose is correctly inserted and secured to the drain facility.

• Household drain may be clogged: Check household plumbing. You may have to call a plumber.

• Constant pressure on hoses at the water source: Tighten hoses at the faucets and turn the water off after each use. Check the condition of fill hoses; they should be replaced every 5 years.

• Drain hose is kinked or improperly connected: Straighten the drain hose and make sure the washer is not sitting on it. The top of the drain outlet should be less than 8 ft (2.5 m) above the floor.

If the water temperature seems incorrect, check the following:

• Colder water temperatures: New detergents were formulated to work at lower water temperatures without affecting washer performance.

• Water supply is turned off or improperly connected: Turn hot and cold faucets completely on and make sure hoses are connected to the correct faucets.

• The mesh filters of the water valve are clogged: Turn off the water source and remove the water connection hoses from the upper back of the washer. Use a brush to clean the washer valves, then reconnect the hoses and turn the water back on.

• House water heater is not properly set: Make sure the house water heater is delivering water at 120°F–140°F (48°C–60°C).

If your MABE GE MCL2040PSBB washer won’t operate, check these possible causes:

• Washer is unplugged: Make sure the cord is plugged securely into a working outlet.

• Water supply is turned off: Turn both hot and cold faucets fully on.

• Controls are not set properly: Check the controls.

• Lid is open: The safety feature prevents agitation and spinning when the lid is open. Close the lid and restart the cycle from the beginning if necessary.

• Incorrect use of fabric softener: Check the fabric softener package for instructions and follow the directions for using the dispenser. Pretreat stains and rewash.

• Dye transfer: Separate whites or lightly colored items from dark colors.

This can be due to several factors:

• Insufficient amount of detergent: Use more detergent (especially with larger loads). Be sure to follow the detergent manufacturer’s directions.

• Hard water: Use a water conditioner like Calgon brand or install a water softener.

• Water is not hot enough: Make sure the water heater is delivering water at 120°F – 140°F (48°C – 60°C).

• Washer is overloaded: Select a load size based on the laundry load.

• Detergent is not dissolving: Add detergent as the basket is filling with water before loading clothes.

• Dye transfer: Sort clothes by color. If a fabric label states to wash separately, unstable dyes may be indicated.

Lint or residue can be caused by:

• Clothes are air or line dried: If you do not dry your clothes with a clothes dryer, your clothes may retain more lint.

• Incorrect sorting: Separate lint producers from lint collectors.

• Washing too long: Wash small loads for a shorter time than larger loads.

• Detergent not dissolving: Add detergent as the basket is filling with water before loading clothes. Try a liquid detergent and use warmer water temperature.

• Overloading: Load clothes loosely, no higher than the top row of holes in the washer basket.

• Incorrect use of fabric softener: Check the fabric softener package for instructions and follow directions for using the dispenser.

If your MABE GE MCL2040PSBB dryer doesn’t start, check the following:

• Dryer is unplugged: Make sure the dryer plug is pushed completely into the outlet.

• Fuse is blown/circuit breaker is tripped: Check the house fuse/circuit breaker box and replace the fuse or reset the breaker. Note: Most electric dryers use 2 fuses/breakers.

If your dryer is not heating, it could be due to these issues:

• Fuse is blown/breaker is tripped: The dryer may dry but not heat. Check the house fuse/circuit breaker box and replace both fuses or reset both breakers. The dryer may dry if only one fuse is blown or one breaker is tripped.

• Gas service is off (for gas models): Make sure the main and dryer taps are completely open.

Greasy spots on clothes can be caused by:

• Improper use of fabric softener: Follow directions on the fabric softener package.

• Drying dirty items with clean ones: Use your dryer to dry only clean items. Dirty items can stain clean items and the dryer.

• Clothes were not completely clean: Sometimes stains that cannot be seen when clothes are wet appear after drying. Use proper washing procedures before drying.

Excessive lint can be due to several factors:

• Lint filter is full: Clean the lint screen before each load.

• Improper sorting: Sort lint producers (like chenille) from lint collectors (like corduroy).

• Static electricity can attract lint: See suggestions under the STATIC troubleshooting section.

• Overloading: Separate large loads into smaller ones.

• Paper, tissue, etc. left in pockets: Empty all pockets before laundering clothes.

Static can be caused by:

• No fabric softener was used: Try a fabric softener.

• Overdrying: Try a fabric softener. Set to LESS DRY or DAMP DRY.

• Synthetics, permanent press, and blends can cause static: Try a fabric softener.

If clothes are taking too long to dry, consider these possibilities:

• Improper sorting: Separate heavy items from lightweight items. A well-sorted washer load is a well-sorted dryer load.

• Large loads of heavy fabrics: Large, heavy fabrics contain more moisture. Separate large, heavy fabrics into smaller loads.

• Improperly set controls: Match control settings to the load you are drying.

• Lint filter is full: Clean the lint filter before each load.

• Improper or obstructed ducting: Check installation instructions for proper ducting/venting. Make sure ducting is clean, free of kinks, and unobstructed. Check if the outside wall damper operates easily and that dryer venting is correct.

• Blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker: Replace fuses or reset circuit breakers. Since most dryers use 2 fuses/breakers, make sure both are operating.

• Overloading/combining loads: Do not put more than one washer load in the dryer at a time.

To reduce wrinkling, follow these tips:

• Overdrying: Select a shorter drying time. Remove items while they still hold a slight amount of moisture. Select a LESS DRY or DAMP DRY setting.

• Letting items sit in dryer: Fold or hang items immediately after the cycle ends.

• Overloading: Separate large loads into smaller ones.
