If you smell gas, follow these safety instructions carefully:

1. Do not try to light a match or cigarette, or turn on any gas or electrical appliance.

2. Do not touch any electrical switch; do not use any phone in your building.

3. Clear the room, building, or area of all occupants.

4. Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions carefully.

5. If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.

Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in a water heater that has not been used for two weeks or more. Hydrogen gas can be explosive under these circumstances.

If the hot water has not been used for two weeks or more, prevent the possibility of damage or injury by turning on all hot water faucets and allowing them to run for several minutes. Do this before using any electrical appliance connected to the hot water system. This simple procedure will allow any built-up hydrogen gas to escape.

Since the gas is flammable, do not smoke or use an open flame or appliance during this process.

For proper installation of your MABE GE MCL2040GSBB, follow these guidelines:

• Properly ground the appliance to conform with all codes and ordinances. Follow details in the installation instructions.

• Install or store where it will not be exposed to temperatures below freezing or to the weather, which could cause permanent damage and invalidate the warranty.

• Connect to a properly rated, protected, and sized power supply circuit to avoid electrical overload.

• Remove all sharp packing items and dispose of all shipping materials properly.

1. Gas dryers must be exhausted to the outside.

2. Use only rigid metal 4″ diameter ductwork inside the dryer cabinet. Use only rigid metal conductor or flexible metal 4″ diameter ductwork for exhausting to the outdoors. Never use plastic or other combustible, easy-to-puncture ductwork. For complete details, follow the installation instructions.

• Keep the area underneath and around your appliances free of combustible materials (lint, paper, rags, etc.), gasoline, chemicals, or other flammable vapors and liquids.

• Keep the floor around your appliances clean and dry to reduce the possibility of slipping.

• Keep all laundry aids (such as detergents, bleaches, etc.) out of the reach of children, preferably in a locked cabinet. Observe all warnings on container labels to avoid injury.

• Never climb on or stand on the Stacked Unit – Laundry Center.

Follow these steps to operate the washer:

Step 1. Add detergent and optionally, liquid bleach and fabric softener.

Step 2. Add clothing to the washer basket.

Step 3. Select the load size, other wash options, and the wash cycle.

Step 4. Close the lid and press START.

Place the load of clothes evenly around the infuser (preferably not over the infuser) so that the load is evenly distributed. The washing machine starts the cycle by turning the basket to accommodate the load for better cycle development. Load the washer with dry items, no higher than the top row of holes in the washer basket. When loading wet items, set the right water level for items to move about freely. The water level should just cover the clothes. To add items after the washer has started, lift the lid and submerge additional items in the water.

Yes, for bulky items, a special accommodation is suggested. Take one end and insert it in a spiral shape, arranging it around the basket. If the clothes exceed the indicated limit, you must compress them slightly to ensure the volume is below the limit.

For waterproof, water-resistant items, only use the Bulky cycle. DO NOT use other cycles for items like diaper covers, bulky waterproof bed covers, vehicle covers, sleeping bags, waterproof coats, or carpets. Using other cycles can cause abnormal vibration and may result in injury or damage.

DO NOT mix waterproof and non-waterproof items.

The Sanitized cycle is designed to eliminate bacteria, viruses, and germs found in clothing. For this cycle to work correctly, you must use hot water; ensure there is hot water in your installation. The cycle uses high-temperature water to ensure its effectiveness. Put the detergent in the bottom of the tub and then add the clothes. It is recommended for high-cotton items like towels, jeans, sheets, and bathrobes. For best performance, set the “Temperature” and “Water Level” knobs to the “Automatic” position.

• Selecting cycles: Turn the knob to select from the available programs depending on the type of clothes you are washing. Each program controls the duration and intensity of the washing process.

• Selecting functions: Press the select button repeatedly to choose independent functions of the wash cycle or a combination of stages. You can choose to wash only, rinse only, wash and spin, etc. The lights will turn on to indicate the selected functions.

• Start/pause: Use this button to start operating your washer or to pause it once in operation. To resume, press the button again.

Your MABE GE MCL2040GSBB washer has 8 main programs designed to better clean and care for your clothes. Refer to the table below for details:

The fabric softener dispenser automatically releases liquid fabric softener at the proper time. Do not stop the washer or raise the lid during the first spin, as this will cause the dispenser to empty too soon.

To use, follow these steps:

1. Make sure the dispenser is securely attached to the agitator.

2. Use only liquid diluted fabric softener. Pour into the dispenser using the amount recommended on the package. Never pour fabric softener directly on clothes, as it may stain them.

3. Add water to the dispenser until it reaches the maximum fill line.

4. Select the FABRIC SOFTENER setting on the control panel for proper dispersion.

1. Remove the dispenser from the top of the agitator.

2. Separate the dispenser cup from the cover by grasping the top and pushing down on the inside of the cup with your fingers.

3. To clean the dispenser, soak both the dispenser cup and cover in the following solution: 3.8 liters of warm water, 1/4 cup (60 ml) of heavy-duty liquid detergent, and 1 cup (240 ml) of bleach.

4. If necessary, loosen any accumulated dirt with a clean, soft cloth after soaking. Do not use a stiff brush.

5. Rinse and reassemble the dispenser. Place it back on the agitator.

The water fill dilutes chlorine bleach as the washer fills for the wash cycle.

1. Check clothing care labels for special instructions.

2. Measure liquid bleach carefully, following instructions on the bottle. Never pour undiluted liquid chlorine bleach directly onto clothes or into the wash basket. Do not pour powdered bleach into the bleach funnel.

3. Before starting the washer, pour the measured amount of bleach directly into the bleach funnel. Avoid splashing or overfilling. If you prefer to use powdered bleach, add it in the wash basket with the detergent.

Important: Do not mix chlorine bleach with ammonia or acids such as vinegar and/or rust remover, as this can produce a toxic gas which may cause death.

• Wash basket: Leave the lid open after washing to allow moisture to evaporate. To clean the basket, use a clean soft cloth dampened with liquid detergent, then rinse. Do not use harsh or gritty cleaners.

• Fill hoses: It is recommended to change hoses every 5 years.

• Exterior: Immediately wipe off any spills with a damp cloth. Try not to hit the surface with sharp objects.

• Moving and storage: Ask a service technician to remove water from the drain pump and hoses. Refer to installation instructions on how to reinstall the shipping rod to keep the tub stationary when moving the washer.

• Long vacations: Be sure the water supply is shut off at faucets. Drain all water from hoses if the weather will be below freezing.

During the automatic drying cycle, the knob will not turn until the thermostat sensor indicates the clothes are dry; then the knob will automatically turn to the OFF position. Automatic cycles determine fabric dryness. Select “less dry” if you want your clothes slightly damp at the end of the cycle. Select “more dry” if you want them to be more dry.

Temperature settings include:

• High: For regular to heavy cottons. For most loads, select OPTIMUM DRY.

• Sanitized: Do not use for delicate clothing like lycra or sports. Do not put in more than 6 clothes that have laces or ribbons. For garments with cotton and most white clothes.

• Medium: For synthetics, blends, and items labeled permanent press.

• Low: For delicates, synthetics, and special care knits. For items labeled tumble dry low.

Timed dry cycles run for the entire duration selected on the timer.

• Dewrinkle: For removing wrinkles from items that are clean and very lightly damp.

• Fluff: For freshening or removing lint from already dry clothing.

The Sanitized cycle is a high-temperature cycle. The duration depends on the humidity, quantity, and type of clothing entered. It is recommended for clothes with high cotton content, such as towels, jeans, sheets, and bathrobes. For best performance, fill the dryer up to half or 3/4 parts maximum. Verify that the dryer duct is in good condition and free of obstructions.

• Exterior: Wipe or dust any spills or washing compounds with a damp cloth. Dryer control panel and finishes may be damaged by some laundry pretreatment products. Keep these products away from the dryer.

• The lint filter: Clean the filter before each use. Slide the grid out and move your fingers through the filter. Wax buildup may form due to fabric softeners; to remove this, wash the lint filter with soap and warm water. Dry completely before replacing. Do not operate the dryer without the lint filter and grid in place. Have a qualified technician vacuum the lint from the dryer once a year.

• The exhaust duct: Inspect and clean the exhaust duct at least once a year to prevent clogging. A partially clogged exhaust can lengthen drying time. To clean it:

1. Turn off the electrical supply by disconnecting the plug.

2. Disconnect the duct from the dryer.

3. Vacuum the duct with a hose attachment and reconnect it.

• The exhaust hood: With a mirror, make sure the inner flaps of the exhaust hood move freely when operating. Check for any wildlife (birds, insects, etc.) nesting inside the duct or hood.

For the best drying performance, the dryer needs to be properly vented. The dryer will use more energy and run longer if ventilation does not meet the following specifications:

• Use only rigid metal 4″ diameter material for the duct inside the dryer cabinet. Use only rigid or flexible metal 4″ diameter material approved by UL for the duct of the exhaust leading to the outside.

• Do not use plastic or other combustible ductwork.

• Use the shortest length possible.

• Do not crush or collapse.

• Avoid resting the duct on sharp objects.

• Venting must conform to local building codes.

This is likely due to using too much detergent. Measure detergent carefully. Use less soap if you have soft water, a smaller load, or a lightly soiled load.

Water leaks can be caused by several issues:

• Improperly connected hoses: Make sure hose connections are tight at the faucets and the end of the drain hose is correctly inserted and secured to the drain facility.

• Clogged household drain: Check household plumbing. You may need to call a plumber.

• Constant pressure on hoses: Tighten hoses at the faucets and turn the water off after each use. Check the condition of fill hoses; they should be replaced every 5 years.

• Kinked or improperly connected drain hose: Straighten the drain hose and make sure the washer is not sitting on it. The top of the drain outlet should be less than 8 ft (2.5 m) above the floor.

If the water temperature seems incorrect, check the following:

• Water supply: Ensure hot and cold faucets are turned on completely and hoses are connected to the correct faucets.

• Clogged mesh filters: Turn off the water source and remove the connection hoses from the upper back of the washer. Use a brush to clean the washer valves, then reconnect the hoses and turn the water back on.

• House water heater settings: Make sure the house water heater is delivering water at 120°F–140°F (48°C–60°C).

This may be due to an incorrect spin cycle selection. Make sure the spin cycle selected matches the load you are washing. Some fabrics will feel wetter when rinsed with cold water.

• Colored spots: This could be from incorrect use of fabric softener. Check the fabric softener package for instructions. Also, try pretreating stains and rewashing. Dye transfer from dark colors can also be a cause; separate whites from darks.

• Grayed or yellowed clothes: This can be caused by insufficient detergent, hard water, water that is not hot enough, or an overloaded washer. Ensure you are using enough detergent, consider a water conditioner, check your water heater is set to 120°F – 140°F, and select the correct load size.

Lint can be caused by incorrect sorting (separate lint producers from lint collectors), washing for too long, overloading, or detergent not dissolving properly. If you air dry clothes, they may retain more lint. To prevent detergent residue, add detergent as the basket is filling with water before loading clothes, try a liquid detergent, and use warmer water.

This can be caused by pins, sharp buttons, zippers, and other sharp objects left in pockets. Fasten all snaps, hooks, and zippers, and remove loose items before washing. Undiluted chlorine bleach can also damage fabrics; check the bleach package for correct usage. Also, turn knits inside out to prevent snagging.

Wrinkling can be caused by improper sorting (avoid mixing heavy and light items), overloading, incorrect water level, or incorrect wash cycles. Load the washer so clothes have enough room to move freely and the water covers all garments. Match the cycle selection to the fabric type. Using a fabric softener can also help.

If your dryer doesn’t start, check the following:

• Dryer is unplugged: Make sure the dryer plug is pushed completely into the outlet.

• Fuse is blown/circuit breaker is tripped: Check the house fuse/circuit breaker box and replace the fuse or reset the breaker. Note that most electric dryers use 2 fuses/breakers.

If your dryer runs but doesn’t heat:

• Fuse is blown/breaker is tripped: Check the house fuse/circuit breaker box and replace both fuses or reset both breakers. The dryer may dry if only one fuse is blown or one breaker is tripped.

• Gas service is off (for gas models): Make sure the main and dryer gas taps are completely open.

• Greasy spots: This may be from improper use of fabric softener or drying dirty items with clean ones. Follow directions on the fabric softener package and only dry clean items.

• Lint on clothes: This is often because the lint filter is full. Clean the lint screen before each load. Improper sorting can also be a cause; sort lint producers (like chenille) from lint collectors (like corduroy).

Static can be caused by not using a fabric softener, overdrying, or the type of fabric (synthetics, permanent press, blends). Try using a fabric softener and set the dryer to LESS DRY or DAMP DRY to avoid overdrying.

• To prevent wrinkling: Avoid overdrying by selecting a shorter drying time or using the LESS DRY/DAMP DRY setting. Remove items while they still hold a slight amount of moisture. Also, remove and fold or hang items immediately after the cycle finishes. Avoid overloading the dryer.

• To prevent shrinking: To avoid shrinkage, follow garment care labels exactly. Some fabrics shrink naturally when washed. Some items may be pressed back into shape after drying. If you are concerned about shrinkage in a particular item, do not wash or dry it.
