For safety, always stop the car before performing any complicated operations with the JVC KS-AX3104. This unit is designed to operate on 12 V DC, NEGATIVE ground electrical systems.

JVC recommends consulting a qualified technician for installation. Please adhere to the following:

• The JVC KS-AX3104 uses BTL (Balanced Transformerless) amplifier circuitry. Do not connect the “-” terminals of the speakers to each other, and do not connect the “-” terminals of the speakers to the metal body or chassis.

• Cover any unused leads with insulating tape to prevent them from short-circuiting.

• If an extension lead is used, it should be as thick and short as possible; connect it firmly with insulating tape.

• Ensure there is appropriate space between the antenna (aerial) and the wires of this unit.

• If the fuse blows, first ensure the wires are not touching and causing a short circuit, then replace the old fuse with one of the same rating.

• Do not allow pebbles, sand, or metallic objects to get inside the unit.

• To maintain effective heat dissipation, wipe accumulated dust off the unit periodically.

• Listening to audio sources at a high volume for an extended period will exhaust the battery when the engine is off or idling.

• The unit becomes very hot. Be careful not to touch it during or after use.

• DO NOT disassemble the unit as there are no user-serviceable parts inside.

You should mount the JVC KS-AX3104 on a firm surface, such as in the trunk or under the front seat.

When choosing a location, please observe the following:

• Since the unit generates heat, do not mount it near inflammable objects. Mount it in an area that will not prevent the unit from dissipating heat.

• Do not mount the unit in places subject to heat, such as near a radiator, in a glove compartment, or in insulated areas like under a car mat that would prevent heat dissipation.

• When mounting the unit under the front seat, ensure that adjusting the seat position will not catch any wire of the unit.

To install the unit:

• When mounting the JVC KS-AX3104, be sure to use the provided screws (ø 4 x 20 mm). Using other screws risks loosening the unit or damaging parts under the car floor.

• Before drilling holes in the trunk to install the unit, make sure there is sufficient space under the trunk so that you do not drill holes in the fuel tank or other components.

Follow these steps for power supply connections:

1. To prevent short circuits, keep the battery’s negative terminal disconnected while making connections.

2. Connect the ground wire (GND) to a metallic body or chassis of the car.

3. Connect the remote turn-on wire (REM). If your JVC car receiver has a remote lead, connect it to the REM terminal. If it does not, connect the REM terminal to the accessory circuit of the car that is activated by the ignition switch.

4. Connect the power cord (+B) directly to the battery’s “+” terminal. This should be the last connection you make. If using a separately purchased power cord, place the fuse near the battery.

Use the proper lead wire for each terminal:

• +B and GND: AWG 8 to AWG 4 (cross-section approx. 8 mm² to 21 mm²)

• REM: AWG 18 to AWG 8 (cross-section approx. 0.8 mm² to 8 mm²)

When making terminal connections, properly fix each terminal with the provided screw. Use ring terminals (not provided) for a secure connection.

Notes:

• Make sure the screw is fixed in place to prevent disconnections.

• Avoid over-tightening as it may cause damage to the screw or its head slot.

Please follow these notes for speaker connections:

• Be sure not to connect the “-” terminals of the speakers to a common point.

• This unit cannot be used if the same lead is used for both left/right or front/rear speaker wirings. Always use independent leads for each speaker.

• Use speakers with an impedance of 2 Ω to 8 Ω (or 4 Ω to 8 Ω when used in Bridge Mode).

• Use speakers that have sufficient capacity for the unit.

• The proper lead for each SPEAKER OUTPUT terminal on the JVC KS-AX3104 is AWG 18 to AWG 12 (cross-section about 0.8 mm² to 3.3 mm²).

To connect a 4-speaker system, use speakers with an impedance of 2 Ω to 8 Ω. Securely connect all parts and run connection leads under the car mats to prevent accidental disconnections.

If your receiver is equipped with line output:

Connect the front line out from your receiver to the FRONT INPUT jacks on the amplifier, and the rear line out to the REAR INPUT jacks.

If your receiver is NOT equipped with line output:

Use the speaker input connector. Connect the front left (+) lead, front right (+) lead, rear left (+) lead, and rear right (+) lead from your receiver to the corresponding inputs on the connector harness. Connect the black “RECEIVER GND” leads to the chassis.

For this configuration, use speakers with an impedance of 2 Ω to 8 Ω and a subwoofer with an impedance of 4 Ω to 8 Ω.

If your receiver is equipped with line output:

Connect the front line out from your receiver to the FRONT INPUT jacks on the amplifier. Connect the rear or subwoofer line out to the REAR INPUT jacks. The front speakers connect to the FRONT SPEAKER OUTPUT terminals. The subwoofer connects to the REAR SPEAKER OUTPUT terminals in bridge mode (Left + and Right -).

If your receiver is NOT equipped with line output:

Use the speaker input connector. Connect the front speaker leads from the receiver to the front channel inputs on the harness. Connect the rear speaker leads to the rear channel inputs on the harness. Connect the black “RECEIVER GND” leads to the chassis. The speakers and subwoofer connect to the amplifier’s output terminals as described above.

For this setup, use speakers with an impedance of 4 Ω to 8 Ω. Be sure to connect the line output from the receiver to the left (L) jacks on both the FRONT and REAR inputs of the unit.

If your receiver is equipped with line output:

Connect the line out from your receiver to the FRONT L and REAR L INPUT jacks on the amplifier. Connect one speaker to the FRONT SPEAKER OUTPUT terminals in bridge mode (Left + and Right -) and the other speaker to the REAR SPEAKER OUTPUT terminals in bridge mode (Left + and Right -).

If your receiver is NOT equipped with line output:

Use the speaker input connector. Connect the front left (+) lead from your receiver to both the “FRONT LEFT (+)” and “REAR LEFT (+)” inputs on the harness. Connect the front right (+) lead from your receiver to both the “FRONT RIGHT (+)” and “REAR RIGHT (+)” inputs on the harness. Connect the black “RECEIVER GND” leads to the chassis. The speakers connect to the amplifier’s output terminals as described above.

The JVC KS-AX3104 has the following controls for both the FRONT and REAR channels:

• A – POWER indicator: The green lamp lights up when the unit is turned on.

• B – CROSSOVER filter switch: This switch controls the frequency filter.

– OFF: Normal setting. No filter is applied.

– LPF (Low-Pass Filter): Set to this position to transmit frequencies lower than 80 Hz.

– HPF (High-Pass Filter): Set to this position to transmit frequencies higher than 150 Hz.

• C – Input LEVEL controller: This allows you to adjust the input level to match the output of your source unit. Adjust the level while listening to the sound for best performance.

If the POWER indicator does not light, please check the following:

• Change the fuses if the current one is blown.

• Connect the ground lead securely to a metal part of the car.

• Turn on the equipment connected to this unit.

• Confirm the battery voltage is between 11 V and 16 V.

• If your system employs too many amplifiers, use a relay.

• If the unit has heated up abnormally, leave it turned off to cool down.

If there is no sound, check these potential issues:

• Confirm all connections for the power supply (GND, +B, REM) are correct and secure.

• Connect the RCA pin cords to the INPUT jacks, or the speaker input connector to the HIGH INPUT terminal.

• Confirm the speaker wirings are correct and check the position of the CROSSOVER filter switch to ensure it is set appropriately for your speaker setup.

To resolve alternator noise, try the following solutions:

• Keep the leads of the POWER terminals away from the RCA pin cords.

• Keep the RCA pin cords away from other electrical cables in the car.

• Connect the ground lead securely to a metal part of the car.

• Make sure the speaker negative leads do not touch the car chassis.

• Connect a bypass capacitor across the accessory switches (e.g., horn, fan, etc.).

Move all the leads of this unit away from the antenna (aerial) lead.

SOME DOS AND DON’TS ON THE SAFE USE OF EQUIPMENT

This equipment has been designed and manufactured to meet international safety standards but, like any electrical equipment, care must be taken if you are to obtain the best results and safety is to be assured.

DO read the operating instructions before you attempt to use the equipment.

DO ensure that all electrical connections (including the mains plug, extension leads and interconnections between pieces of equipment) are properly made and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Switch off and withdraw the mains plug when making or changing connections.

DO consult your dealer if you are ever in doubt about the installation, operation or safety of your equipment.

DO be careful with glass panels or doors on equipment.

DON’T continue to operate the equipment if you are in any doubt about it working normally, or if it is damaged in any way-switch off, withdraw the mains plug and consult your dealer.

DON’T remove any fixed cover as this may expose dangerous voltages.

DON’T leave equipment switched on when it is unattended unless it is specifically stated that it is designed for unattended operation or has a standby mode. Switch off using the switch on the equipment and make sure that your family know how to do this. Special arrangements may need to be made for infirm or handicapped people.

DON’T use equipment such as personal stereos or radios so that you are distracted from the requirements of traffic safety. It is illegal to watch television whilst driving.

DON’T listen to headphones at high volume as such use can permanently damage your hearing.

DON’T obstruct the ventilation of the equipment, for example with curtains or soft furnishings. Overheating will cause damage and shorten the life of the equipment.

DON’T use makeshift stands and NEVER fix legs with wood screws-to ensure complete safety always fit the manufacturer’s approved stand or legs with the fixings provided according to the instructions.

DON’T allow electrical equipment to be exposed to rain or moisture.

— NEVER let anyone, especially children, push anything into holes, slots or any other opening in the case – this could result in a fatal electrical shock.

— NEVER guess or take chances with electrical equipment of any kind-it is better to be safe than sorry!
