To reset your JVC KD-SH707, press the reset button on the front panel using a ball-point pen or a similar tool. Please note that your preset adjustments, such as preset channels or sound adjustments, will be erased.

For your safety when using the JVC KD-SH707, please observe the following:

• Do not raise the volume level too much, as this will block outside sounds, making driving dangerous.

• Stop the car before performing any complicated operations.

• If you have parked the car for a long time in hot or cold weather, wait until the temperature in the car becomes normal before operating the unit.

• CAUTION: NEVER insert your finger in between the control panel and the unit, as it may get caught or hurt.

The JVC KD-SH707 is a CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT. Please follow these precautions:

1. CAUTION: Invisible laser radiation when open and interlock failed or defeated. Avoid direct exposure to beam.

2. CAUTION: Do not open the top cover. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Leave all servicing to qualified service personnel.

3. CAUTION: This CD player uses invisible laser radiation, however, is equipped with safety switches to prevent radiation emission when unloading CDs. It is dangerous to defeat the safety switches.

4. CAUTION: Use of controls, adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

If you press the MODE (M) button on your JVC KD-SH707, the unit enters functions mode. In this mode, the number buttons and the DISP (D) button work as different function buttons. A time countdown indicator will light up on the display.

To use these buttons for their original function again (e.g., as number buttons), wait for 5 seconds without pressing any of the buttons, and the functions mode will be cleared. Pressing the MODE (M) button again also clears the functions mode.

The JVC KD-SH707 is equipped with two display indication patterns: with or without the source symbol animation.

To change the display patterns, first press MODE (M). Then, within 5 seconds, press DISP (D). Each time you press DISP (D), the display pattern will toggle between the animated and non-animated versions.

To turn on the power and select a source on the JVC KD-SH707:

Press the SOURCE / शक्ति button. The first press turns the power on. Each subsequent press cycles through the available sources in the following order: AM TUNER (AM) -> FM TUNER (FM) -> CD -> CD CHANGER (CD CH) or LINE INPUT (LINE) -> AUX INPUT (AUX) -> and back to AM TUNER.

Notes:

• If a disc is not in the loading slot, you cannot select CD.

• Without a CD changer connected, you cannot select CD CH.

• To use an external component via LINE INPUT, you must set “EXT IN” to “LINE INPUT” in the settings.

To turn off the power:

Press and hold the SOURCE / शक्ति button until “SEE YOU” appears on the display.

To adjust the volume, turn the control dial. Turn it clockwise to increase the volume and counter-clockwise to decrease it. The volume level will appear on the display.

To prevent unintended operations, you can push the control dial in after adjusting the volume. To use it again, simply push the control dial to make it come out.

To drop the volume momentarily, press and hold the ATT button. “ATT” will flash on the display, and the volume will drop. To resume the previous volume level, press and hold the ATT button again or turn the control dial clockwise.

The display demonstration is activated by default and starts automatically when no operations are done for about 3 minutes. To cancel it:

1. Press and hold the SEL (select) button for more than 2 seconds. One of the PSM (Preferred Setting Mode) items will appear on the display.

2. Turn the control dial or press the arrow buttons to select “DEMO MODE” if it’s not already shown.

3. Turn the control dial to select “OFF.”

4. Press the SEL (select) button to finish the setting.

To reactivate the demonstration, repeat the same procedure but select “ON” in step 3.

1. Press and hold the SEL (select) button for more than 2 seconds until a PSM (Preferred Setting Mode) item appears on the display.

2. Set the hour: Use the arrow buttons to select “CLOCK H” (hour). Turn the control dial to adjust the hour.

3. Set the minute: Use the arrow buttons to select “CLOCK M” (minute). Turn the control dial to adjust the minute.

4. Press the SEL (select) button to finish the setting.

To check the current time when the unit is turned off, press the DISP (D) button. The power will turn on, show the time for 5 seconds, and then turn off again.

To listen to the radio:

1. Press the SOURCE button repeatedly to select FM or AM.

2. For FM, you can press the BAND (B) button to cycle through the FM bands (FM1, FM2, FM3).

To automatically search for a station (Auto Search):

Press the right arrow button (►►) to search for stations at higher frequencies, or the left arrow button (◄◄) to search for stations at lower frequencies. The search will stop when a station is received.

To manually search for a station (Manual Search):

1. Press and hold the right (►►) or left (◄◄) arrow button until “M” (manual) starts flashing on the display.

2. While “M” is flashing, press the arrow buttons repeatedly to tune to your desired frequency. The manual mode will turn off automatically after 5 seconds of inactivity.

If an FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive and the sound quality is poor, you can switch to monaural reception to improve it.

1. While listening to an FM broadcast, press the MODE (M) button to enter functions mode.

2. Press the number 2 button (MO) while in functions mode. The MO (monaural) indicator will light up on the display, and the sound you hear will become monaural, which should improve the reception clarity. The ST (stereo) indicator will go off.

Pressing the MO button again will switch back to stereo mode.

There are two methods to store stations: automatic preset for FM and manual preset for both FM and AM.

FM Station Automatic Preset (SSM – Strong-station Sequential Memory):

This method automatically stores the 6 strongest local FM stations in the selected band.

1. Select the FM band (FM1, FM2, or FM3) where you want to store stations.

2. Press and hold both arrow buttons (◄◄ and ►►) for more than 2 seconds. “SSM” will appear on the display as the unit searches for and stores stations. When finished, the station stored in preset number 1 will be tuned in automatically.

Manual Preset (FM and AM):

You can manually store up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3, and AM).

1. Select the desired band (e.g., FM1).

2. Tune in to the station you want to store (e.g., 88.3 MHz).

3. Press and hold the number button (e.g., 1) where you want to store the station for more than 2 seconds. The preset number (“1” in this example) will flash on the display to confirm it has been stored.

4. Repeat the procedure for other stations and preset numbers.

Once you have stored stations in memory, you can easily tune to them.

1. Press the SOURCE button to select AM or FM. If tuning to an FM station, press the BAND (B) button to select the correct band (FM1, FM2, or FM3) where the station is stored.

2. Press the number button (1 – 6) corresponding to the preset station you want to hear.

1. Press the eject button (▲) to open the control panel. The panel will move down, revealing the loading slot.

2. Insert a disc into the loading slot. The unit will automatically draw the disc in, the control panel will return to its previous position, and CD play will start automatically.

Note: By default, all tracks on the disc will be played repeatedly (All Track Repeat Play) until you stop playback. Do not insert 8 cm discs.

To stop play and eject the disc, press the eject button (▲). CD play will stop, the control panel will move down, and the disc will be automatically ejected.

While a CD is playing, you can use the following controls:

• Fast-forward or Reverse: Press and hold the right arrow button (►►) to fast-forward or the left arrow button (◄◄) to reverse the track.

• Go to the Next or Previous Track: Press the right arrow button (►►) briefly to skip to the beginning of the next track. Press the left arrow button (◄◄) briefly to go back to the beginning of the current track; press it again to go to the previous track.

• Go to a Specific Track Directly: Press the number button corresponding to the desired track number to start its playback. For tracks 1-6, press the corresponding button (1-6) briefly. For tracks 7-12, press and hold the corresponding button (1-6) for more than one second.

To access playback modes, first press the MODE (M) button while a CD is playing. Then, use the following number buttons:

• Random Play (Random): Press the number 6 button (RND). “RANDOM” will flash on the display. Each subsequent press of the RND button will turn random play on and off. When on, the RND indicator lights up, and tracks will be played in a random order.

• Repeat Play (One Track Repeat): Press the number 5 button (RPT). “REPEAT” will flash on the display. Each press of the RPT button will turn One Track Repeat Play on and off. When on, the RPT indicator lights up, and the current track will be played repeatedly. When off, the unit returns to All Track Repeat Play.

• Intro Scan (Intro): Press the number 4 button (INT). “INTRO” will flash on the display. Each press of the INT button will turn intro scan on and off. When on, the unit plays the first 15 seconds of each track sequentially.

You can lock a disc in the loading slot to prevent it from being ejected.

To prohibit disc ejection: While pressing the SEL (select) button, press and hold the eject button (▲) for more than 2 seconds. “NO EJECT” will flash on the display for about 5 seconds, and the disc will be locked.

To cancel the prohibition: While pressing the SEL (select) button, press and hold the eject button (▲) again for more than 2 seconds. “EJECT OK” will flash on the display for about 5 seconds, and the disc will be unlocked.

• Format: The JVC KD-SH707 can play MP3 files recorded on CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and CD-ROMs. It is compatible with files encoded in MPEG Audio Layer 3. It is not compatible with Layer 1 or 2 formats.

• Disc Standard: Files must be recorded on a disc compliant with ISO 9660 Level 1, Level 2, or Joliet.

• File Structure: MP3 “files” (tracks) can be organized into “directories” (folders). The playback order is determined by the recording software.

• ID3 Tags: The unit can display ID3v1 tags (album name, performer name, song title). It is not compatible with ID3v2.

• File Extension: The unit cannot read or play an MP3 file without the “.mp3” extension code.

Playing and Skipping Files:

• To play an MP3 disc, insert it into the loading slot. Playback starts automatically.

• To skip to the next or previous file, briefly press the right (►►) or left (◄◄) arrow button.

• To fast-forward or reverse within a file, press and hold the right (►►) or left (◄◄) arrow button.

Navigating Directories (Control Panel):

• Direct Directory Access: You can directly access directories 1-12 if they are named with 2-digit numbers at the beginning (e.g., “01 ABC”). For directories 1-6, press the corresponding number button (1-6) briefly. For directories 7-12, press and hold the corresponding number button (1-6) for more than one second.

• Skip to Next/Previous Directory: Press the MODE (M) button. Then, briefly press the right arrow (►►) to go to the next directory or the left arrow (◄◄) to go to the previous directory.

To access MP3 playback modes, first press the MODE (M) button while an MP3 disc is playing. Then, use the corresponding number buttons:

• Random Play (RND): Press the number 6 button (RND) to cycle through RANDOM1 (plays all files in the current directory, then moves to the next), RANDOM2 (plays all files on the disc at random), and Canceled (off).

• Repeat Play (RPT): Press the number 5 button (RPT) to cycle through REPEAT1 (repeats the current file), REPEAT2 (repeats all files in the current directory), and Canceled (off).

• Intro Scan (INT): Press the number 4 button (INT) to cycle through INTRO1 (plays the first 15 seconds of all files on the disc), INTRO2 (plays the first 15 seconds of the first file of all directories), and Canceled (off).

1. Press the SEL (select) button repeatedly to cycle through the adjustable items.

2. Once the desired item is displayed, turn the control dial to adjust its level.

The adjustable items are:

• FADER: Adjusts the front and rear speaker balance (Range: R06 to F06).

• BAL: Adjusts the left and right speaker balance (Range: L06 to R06).

• WOOFER: Adjusts the subwoofer output level (Range: 00 to 12). (Requires a subwoofer connection).

• VOL ADJ: Adjusts the input level of the current source to match the FM sound level (Range: -12 to +12). Not adjustable for FM.

• VOLUME: Adjusts the main volume (Range: 00 to 50). This can also be adjusted directly with the control dial without pressing SEL.

Reinforcing the Bass Sound (E-BASS):

Press the E-BASS (EB) button to turn the Extended Bass feature on or off. This maintains the richness of the bass sound at any volume level.

Selecting Preset Sound Modes (EQ):

1. Press the EQ button to activate or deactivate the sound mode. When activated, the last selected mode is applied.

2. With EQ activated, turn the control dial to select a preset sound mode suitable for the music genre. The options are: FLAT, Hard Rock, R & B, POP, JAZZ, Dance Music, Country, Reggae, Classic, USER 1, USER 2, USER 3.

You can create and store up to three custom sound settings in USER 1, USER 2, and USER 3.

1. Press the EQ button to activate the sound mode.

2. Turn the control dial to select any sound mode (e.g., POP) as a starting point.

3. Press the SEL (select) button to enter adjustment mode. The last adjusted frequency and its level will appear.

4. Select a frequency to adjust: Use the arrow buttons (◄◄ / ►►) to choose a frequency (70 Hz, 150 Hz, 400 Hz, 1 kHz, 2.4 kHz, 6 kHz, 12.5 kHz).

5. Adjust the level: Turn the control dial to adjust the level of the selected frequency from “-05” to “+05”.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to adjust other frequency levels.

7. Select a user memory: Press the EQ button to select one of the user sound modes (USER 1, USER 2, or USER 3) where you want to store your settings. The display will show, for example, “EQ STORE? USER 1”.

8. Store the settings: Press the SEL (select) button to store the adjustments.

You can change various system settings in the PSM (Preferred Setting Mode).

Basic Procedure:

1. Press and hold the SEL (select) button for more than 2 seconds. A PSM item will appear on the display.

2. Use the arrow buttons (◄◄ / ►►) to select the PSM item you want to adjust.

3. Turn the control dial to change the setting for that item.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to adjust other items if necessary.

5. Press the SEL (select) button to finish and exit PSM.

Below is a table of available PSM items and their settings:

You can assign names to stations, CDs, and external components. The name will then appear on the display when you select that source.

1. Select the source you want to assign a name to (e.g., a preset radio station or a CD).

2. Press and hold the SEL (select) button for more than 2 seconds while also pressing the DISP (D) button. The display will enter naming mode.

3. Select the character set: Press DISP (D) to cycle through character sets: Capital letters (A), small letters (a), and numbers/symbols (#).

4. Select a character: Turn the control dial to select the character you want.

5. Move the cursor: Press the arrow buttons (◄◄ / ►►) to move the cursor to the next or previous character position.

6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 until you finish inputting the name.

7. Finish the procedure: While the last selected character is flashing, press the SEL (select) button to save the name.

You can change the angle of the control panel to one of four positions for better visibility.

To adjust the angle, press the ANGLE button (found on the front panel). Each time you press the button, the panel angle changes to the next position in the sequence (A -> B -> C -> D).

To Detach the Control Panel:

1. Turn off the power and return the panel to its original position if it’s angled.

2. Press the control panel release button (marked with a symbol). The control panel will unlock and come out toward you.

3. Move the control panel to the right, then pull it out of the unit.

4. Store the detached panel in the provided case for protection.

To Attach the Control Panel:

1. Insert the left side of the control panel into the groove on the panel holder.

2. Press the right side of the control panel to fix it securely to the panel holder.

Note on Cleaning: If you frequently detach the panel, the connectors may deteriorate. Periodically wipe the connectors with a cotton swab or cloth moistened with alcohol, being careful not to damage them.

The JVC KD-SH707 allows you to connect two external components:

• One to the auxiliary input (MP3 INPUT) jack on the front control panel.

• One to the CD changer jack on the rear of the unit.

To use the external component connected to the rear CD changer jack, you need to set “EXT IN” to “LINE INPUT” in the PSM settings. To use the component connected to the front auxiliary jack, ensure “AUX IN” is set to “ON” in the PSM settings.

To play the external component:

1. Press the SOURCE button repeatedly to select the desired external source: “AUX INPUT (AUX)” for the front jack, or “LINE INPUT (LINE)” for the rear connection.

2. Turn on the connected component and start playing the source.

Playing CDs:

Press the SOURCE button to select “CD CHANGER” or “CD CH.” Playback will begin.

Navigating Discs and Tracks:

• Go to a specific disc directly: Press the number button (1-6) corresponding to the disc number to start its playback. For discs 7-12, press and hold the number button for more than one second.

• Go to the next or previous track: Briefly press the right (►►) or left (◄◄) arrow button.

Playback Modes (Random, Repeat, Intro):

1. While playing a disc from the changer, press the MODE (M) button.

2. Press the corresponding number button to activate a mode:

• Random (RND – button 6): Toggles between RANDOM1 (random tracks on current disc), RANDOM2 (random tracks on all discs), and off.

• Repeat (RPT – button 5): Toggles between REPEAT1 (repeats current track) and REPEAT2 (repeats all tracks on current disc).

• Intro (INT – button 4): Toggles between INTRO1 (plays intro of all tracks on all discs) and INTRO2 (plays intro of the first track on each inserted disc).

If the sound is interrupted, check the following:

• The contents on the disc may not be compatible with the unit. Try changing the disc.

• If you are driving on rough roads, this can cause skipping. Stop playback while driving on rough roads.

• The disc may be scratched. Try changing the disc.

If there is no sound from the speakers, please check these possible causes:

• Check that all cords and connections are correct and secure.

• Ensure the volume level is not set to the minimum. Adjust it to an optimum level.

• Check if the “P.AMP SW” setting is set to “OFF”. If you are not using external amplifiers, set it to “ON”.

If a CD-R or CD-RW cannot be played back or tracks cannot be skipped, it is likely because the disc is not finalized. You must use the component you used for recording to finalize the CD-R/CD-RW.

This message indicates that the unit may be functioning incorrectly. To resolve this, while pressing the eject button (▲), press and hold the SEL (select) button for more than 2 seconds to force eject the disc. Be careful not to drop the disc when it ejects. If this does not solve the problem, try pressing the reset button on the front panel.

If the unit or CD changer does not work at all, the built-in microcomputer may be functioning incorrectly due to noise or other interference. Press the reset button on the control panel to see if this resolves the issue.

The Strong-station Sequential Memory (SSM) automatic preset function relies on receiving strong radio signals. If the signals in your area are too weak, SSM may not be able to store any stations. In this case, you will need to store stations manually.

Static noise during radio playback is usually caused by a poor antenna connection. Ensure the antenna is connected firmly to the unit.

• “RESET 8” indicates that the unit is not connected to a CD changer correctly. Check the connection between the unit and the changer, then press the reset button of the CD changer.

• “RESET 1 – RESET 7” also indicates an issue with the CD changer. Press the reset button on the CD changer itself.

If an MP3 disc cannot be played back, check for the following issues:

• The MP3 files do not have the extension code—mp3 in their file names. You must add the extension code to the file names.

• The MP3 files are not recorded in a format compliant with ISO 9660 Level 1, Level 2, or Joliet. Change the disc and ensure you record MP3 files using a compliant application.

This issue occurs if the MP3 files are encoded in Layer 1 or Layer 2 format. The JVC KD-SH707 is only compatible with Layer 3 format. Please insert a disc that contains files encoded in Layer 3 format.

A long readout time is required when the directory and file configuration on the MP3 disc is very complex. To minimize this, do not use too many hierarchies and directories. Also, do not record any other types of audio tracks (like standard CD audio) together with MP3 files on the same disc.

The JVC KD-SH707 can only display a specific set of characters for ID3v1 tags and file names. It can display alphabets (capital: A-Z, small: a-z), numbers, and some symbols. Any characters outside of this set will not be displayed correctly.

• Always hold the disc by its edges; do not touch the recording surface.

• To clean a dirty disc, wipe it with a soft cloth in a straight line from the center to the edge.

• Do not use solvents like record cleaner, spray, thinner, or benzine to clean discs.

• Do not expose discs to direct sunlight or high heat/humidity. Do not leave them in a car.

• Do not insert 8 cm (single) CDs into the loading slot.

• To play new discs that have rough spots around the edges, gently rub the edges with a pencil or ball-point pen to smooth them out before use.

Moisture may condense on the lens inside the unit, especially after starting the car’s heater or if the car’s interior becomes very humid. This can cause the unit to malfunction. If this occurs, eject the disc and leave the unit turned on for a few hours to allow the moisture to evaporate.
