For safety, you should stop the car before performing any complicated operations with the JVC KS-AX3101D.

Please observe the following cautions and notes for your JVC KS-AX3101D:

• The unit is designed for 12 V DC, NEGATIVE ground electrical systems.

• JVC recommends consulting a qualified technician for installation.

• The unit uses BTL (Balanced Transformerless) amplifier circuitry. Do not connect the “–” terminals of the speakers to each other or to the metal body or chassis.

• Cover unused leads with insulating tape to prevent short circuits.

• If an extension lead is used, it should be as thick and short as possible; connect it firmly with insulating tape.

• Ensure there is appropriate space between the antenna (aerial) and the unit’s wires.

• If the fuse blows, first check for short circuits, then replace it with one of the same rating.

• Do not allow pebbles, sand, or metallic objects inside the unit.

• To maintain effective heat dissipation, wipe off accumulated dust periodically.

• Listening at a high volume for a long time can exhaust the car battery if the engine is off or idling.

• The unit becomes very hot. Be careful not to touch it during or immediately after use.

• Do not disassemble the unit as there are no user-serviceable parts inside.

Follow these guidelines for choosing an installation location for your JVC KS-AX3101D:

• Mount the unit on a firm surface, such as in the trunk or under the front seat.

• Since the unit generates heat, do not mount it near flammable objects.

• Mount it in a location that allows for proper heat dissipation. Avoid places subject to heat like near a radiator, in a glove compartment, or in insulated areas like under a car mat.

• If mounting under the front seat, ensure that adjusting the seat position will not catch any wires.

To correctly install the JVC KS-AX3101D, please follow these steps:

• When mounting the unit, be sure to use the provided screws (ø 4 x 20 mm).

• Using other screws may risk loosening the unit or damaging parts under the car floor.

• Before drilling holes in the trunk to install the unit, ensure there is enough space underneath to avoid drilling into the fuel tank or other components.

To connect the power supply for your JVC KS-AX3101D, follow these instructions:

1. To prevent short circuits, keep the battery’s negative terminal disconnected while making connections.

2. If using a separately purchased power cord, place the fuse near the battery.

3. Connect the power cord directly to the battery’s “+” terminal only after all other connections have been made.

4. Connect the GND terminal to a metallic body or chassis of the car.

5. Connect the REM terminal to the remote turn-on line of your JVC car receiver.

Wire Gauge Requirements:

• +B and GND: AWG 8 to AWG 4 (cross section of about 8 mm² to 21 mm²).

• REM: AWG 18 to AWG 8 (cross section of about 0.8 mm² to 8 mm²).

Note on Remote Connection:

If connecting to a unit without a remote lead, connect the REM terminal to the accessory circuit of the car activated by the ignition switch. In this case, noise may occur when the car receiver is turned on or off. To avoid this, do not turn the receiver on or off itself; instead, use the on/off operation of the ignition switch.

When making terminal connections, properly fix each terminal with the provided screw. It is recommended to use ring terminals (not provided) for a secure connection.

Notes:

• Make sure the screw is fixed in place to prevent disconnections.

• Avoid over-tightening as it may damage the screw or its head slot.

When connecting speakers to your JVC KS-AX3101D, please adhere to the following guidelines:

• Do not connect the “–” terminals of the speakers to a common point.

• If the same lead is used for both left/right or front/rear speaker wirings, this unit cannot be used. Always use independent leads for each speaker and redo wirings if necessary.

• Use speakers with an impedance of 2 Ω to 8 Ω.

• Use speakers that have sufficient power capacity for the unit.

• The proper wire for each SPEAKER OUTPUT terminal is AWG 18 to AWG 8 (The cross section is about 0.8 mm² to 8 mm²).

For a standard subwoofer system, use a speaker with an impedance of 2 Ω to 8 Ω.

A) If your receiver has a line output:

Connect an RCA cable from the receiver’s Rear or Subwoofer line output to the INPUT jack on the amplifier.

B) If your receiver does NOT have a line output:

Use the Speaker input connector. Connect the leads as follows:

• White “LEFT (+)” lead to the Receiver’s Left (+) lead.

• Black “RECEIVER GND” lead to the Receiver’s Chassis.

• Gray “RIGHT (+)” lead to the Receiver’s Right (+) lead.

Finally, connect the speaker wires from the amplifier’s SPEAKER OUTPUT terminals to your subwoofer.

To set up a 2-subwoofer system with two amplifiers, use speakers with an impedance of 2 Ω to 8 Ω. Incoming signals from the INPUT jacks are emitted through the PRE OUT jacks to the second amplifier.

Connection Steps:

1. Connect an RCA cable from your car receiver’s Rear or Subwoofer output to the INPUT jacks of the first JVC KS-AX3101D amplifier.

2. Connect a second RCA cable from the PRE OUT jacks of the first amplifier to the INPUT jacks of the second amplifier.

3. Connect the SPEAKER OUTPUT of the first amplifier to the first subwoofer.

4. Connect the SPEAKER OUTPUT of the second amplifier to the second subwoofer.

If your receiver does not have line outputs, use the speaker input connector for the first amplifier.

The controls on the JVC KS-AX3101D have the following functions:

• A – POWER indicator: The green lamp lights up when the unit is turned on.

• C – Input LEVEL controller: This adjusts the input level when connected to other source equipment. Adjust the level while listening to the sound. It is preset to MIN when shipped.

• D – BASS BOOST controller: This boosts the 45 Hz frequency within a range of 0 dB to +18 dB. Adjust the level while listening to the sound. It is preset to MIN when shipped.

• E – LPF (Low-Pass Filter) controller: This adjusts the cutoff frequency for the Low-Pass Filter, which transmits frequencies lower than the set frequency. The adjustable range is from 50 Hz to 200 Hz. Adjust while listening to the sound. It is preset to 50 Hz when shipped.

If the POWER indicator does not light, please check the following:

• Change the fuses if the current one is blown.

• Connect the ground lead securely to a metal part of the car.

• Turn on the equipment connected to this unit (e.g., your car receiver).

• Confirm the battery voltage is between 11 V and 16 V.

• Use a relay if your system employs too many amplifiers.

• If the unit has heated up abnormally, leave it turned off to cool down.

If you hear no sound, perform these checks:

• Confirm the power supply connections are correct.

• Ensure the RCA pin cords are connected to the INPUT jacks, or the speaker input connector is connected to the HIGH INPUT terminal.

• Confirm the speaker wirings are correct.

To reduce or eliminate alternator noise, try the following solutions:

• Keep the leads of the POWER terminals away from the RCA pin cords.

• Keep the RCA pin cords away from other electrical cables in the car.

• Connect the ground lead securely to a metal part of the car.

• Make sure the speaker negative leads do not touch the car chassis.

• Connect a bypass capacitor across the accessory switches (for components like the horn, fan, etc.).

If noise occurs when connected to an AM (MW/LW) tuner, move all the leads of the JVC KS-AX3101D away from the antenna (aerial) lead.

• DON’T listen to headphones at high volume as such use can permanently damage your hearing.

• DON’T obstruct the ventilation of the equipment. Overheating will cause damage and shorten the life of the equipment.

• DON’T use makeshift stands and NEVER fix legs with wood screws—to ensure complete safety always fit the manufacturer’s approved stand or legs with the fixings provided.

• DON’T allow electrical equipment to be exposed to rain or moisture.

ABOVE ALL

• NEVER let anyone, especially children, push anything into holes, slots or any other opening in the case — this could result in a fatal electrical shock.

• NEVER guess or take chances with electrical equipment of any kind—it is better to be safe than sorry!
