Please adhere to the following cautions and notes when using the JVC KS-AX3102:

• This unit is designed to operate on 12 V DC, NEGATIVE ground electrical systems.

• JVC recommends consulting a qualified technician for installation.

• The unit uses BTL (Balanced Transformerless) amplifier circuitry (a floating ground system). Therefore, do not connect the “–” terminals of the speakers to each other, and do not connect the “–” terminals of the speakers to the metal body or chassis.

• Cover any unused leads with insulating tape to prevent them from short circuiting.

• If an extension lead is used, it should be as thick and short as possible and connected firmly with insulating tape.

• Ensure there is an appropriate space between the antenna (aerial) and the wires of this unit.

• If the fuse blows, first ensure the wires are not touching and causing a short circuit, then replace the old fuse with one of the same rating.

• Do not allow pebbles, sand, or metallic objects to get inside the unit.

• To maintain effective heat dissipation, wipe accumulated dust off the unit periodically.

• Listening to audio at a high volume for a long time will exhaust the battery when the engine is off or idling.

• This unit becomes very hot. Be careful not to touch it during or immediately after use.

• DO NOT disassemble the unit as there are no user-serviceable parts inside.

• For safety, stop the car before performing any complicated operations.

You should mount the JVC KS-AX3102 on a firm surface, such as in the trunk or under the front seat.

When choosing a location, consider the following:

• The unit generates heat, so do not mount it near flammable objects.

• Mount it in an area that allows for proper heat dissipation. Avoid places subject to heat like near a radiator, in a glove compartment, or in insulated areas like under a car mat.

• If mounting under the front seat, ensure that adjusting the seat position will not catch or damage any wires.

To install the JVC KS-AX3102:

1. Place the unit in the desired location.

2. Before drilling mounting holes, ensure there is sufficient space under the surface. For example, if installing in the trunk, check that you will not drill into the fuel tank or other components.

3. Use the provided screws (ø 4 x 20 mm) to mount the unit securely. Using other screws may risk the unit becoming loose or damaging parts under the car floor.

To prevent short circuits, keep the battery’s negative terminal disconnected while making connections.

1. **GND (Ground):** Connect the GND terminal to a clean, unpainted metallic part of the car’s body or chassis.

2. **+B (Battery):** Connect the +B terminal to the car battery’s positive (+) terminal. When using a power cord (purchased separately), be sure to place the included fuse near the battery. Connect this lead only after all other connections have been made.

3. **REM (Remote):**

• If your JVC car receiver has a remote lead, connect it to the REM terminal on this unit.

• If your unit does not have a remote lead, connect the REM terminal to the accessory circuit of the car, which is activated by the ignition switch. Note that with this setup, noise may occur when the car receiver is turned on or off. To avoid this, turn the car receiver on and off using the car’s ignition switch, not the receiver’s own power button.

Recommended Wire Gauges:

• **+B and GND:** AWG 8 to AWG 4 (cross section of about 8 mm² to 21 mm²)

• **REM:** AWG 18 to AWG 8 (cross section of about 0.8 mm² to 8 mm²)

For secure connections, use ring terminals (not provided). When connecting to a terminal, fix it properly with the provided screw. Make sure the screw is fixed in place to prevent disconnections, but avoid over-tightening as this may damage the screw or its head slot.

• Use speakers with an impedance of 2 Ω to 8 Ω.

• When used in Bridge Mode, the speaker impedance must be 4 Ω to 8 Ω.

• Use speakers that have sufficient power capacity for the unit.

• The proper lead wire connected to each SPEAKER OUTPUT terminal should be AWG 18 to AWG 12 (The cross section is about 0.8 mm² to 3.3 mm²).

• Be sure not to connect the “–” terminals of the speakers to a common point.

• If the same lead is used for both left/right speaker wirings, this unit cannot be used. Always use independent leads for each speaker.

You can use speakers with an impedance of 2 Ω to 8 Ω for this setup.

A) If your receiver is equipped with line output:

1. Connect RCA cables from your car receiver’s line out jacks to the LINE IN jacks on the amplifier.

B) If your receiver is NOT equipped with line output:

1. Use the supplied Speaker Input Connector.

2. Connect the white “LEFT (+)” wire to the receiver’s left speaker positive (+) lead.

3. Connect the gray “RIGHT (+)” wire to the receiver’s right speaker positive (+) lead.

4. Connect the black “RECEIVER GND” wire to the chassis ground.

5. Cover the unused speaker negative leads from the receiver with insulating tape to prevent short circuits.

Speaker Wiring:

Connect your left speaker to the L channel SPEAKER OUTPUT terminals and your right speaker to the R channel SPEAKER OUTPUT terminals on the amplifier, observing correct polarity (+ to +, – to –).

For this setup, use a subwoofer with an impedance of 4 Ω to 8 Ω.

A) If your receiver is equipped with line output:

1. Connect RCA cables from your car receiver’s rear line out or subwoofer out jacks to the LINE IN jacks on the amplifier.

B) If your receiver is NOT equipped with line output:

1. Use the supplied Speaker Input Connector.

2. Connect the white “LEFT (+)” wire to the receiver’s left speaker positive (+) lead.

3. Connect the gray “RIGHT (+)” wire to the receiver’s right speaker positive (+) lead.

4. Connect the black “RECEIVER GND” wire to the chassis ground.

Subwoofer Wiring (Bridge Mode):

Connect the subwoofer to the SPEAKER OUTPUT terminals marked for BRIDGE MODE. This typically involves connecting the subwoofer’s positive (+) lead to the Left channel positive (L+) terminal and the subwoofer’s negative (–) lead to the Right channel negative (R–) terminal.

A) POWER indicator: The green lamp lights up when the unit is turned on.

B) CROSSOVER filter switch: This switch controls the built-in crossover.

• OFF: This is the normal setting. The switch is preset to this position. The full audio signal is passed to the speakers.

• LPF (Low-Pass Filter): Set to this position to turn on the Low-Pass Filter. The LPF transmits frequencies lower than 80 Hz, which is ideal for subwoofers.

• HPF (High-Pass Filter): Set to this position to turn on the High-Pass Filter. The HPF transmits frequencies higher than 150 Hz, which is ideal for main speakers when a subwoofer is also in use.

C) Input LEVEL controller: This adjusts the input sensitivity to match the output level of your source unit (car receiver). Adjust the level while listening to the sound to achieve the best performance without distortion. It is preset to MIN when shipped.

If the POWER indicator does not light, check the following:

• Change the fuses if the current ones are blown.

• Ensure the ground lead is securely connected to a metal part of the car.

• Turn on the equipment connected to this unit (e.g., your car receiver).

• Confirm the battery voltage is within the required range (11 V to 16 V).

• If your system employs too many amplifiers, you may need to use a relay.

• If the unit has heated up abnormally, leave it turned off to cool down.

If you hear no sound, please check these points:

• Confirm all connections for the power supply (GND, +B, and REM) are correct and secure.

• Check that the RCA pin cords are connected to the INPUT jacks, or that the speaker input connector is connected to the HIGH INPUT terminal.

• Confirm the speaker wiring is correct and secure.

• Check the position of the CROSSOVER filter switch to ensure it is set appropriately for your speaker setup.

If you are hearing alternator noise (a whining sound that changes with engine RPM), try the following solutions:

• Keep the power terminal leads away from the RCA pin cords.

• Keep the RCA pin cords away from other electrical cables in the car.

• Ensure the ground lead is securely connected to a clean, metal part of the car chassis.

• Make sure the speaker negative leads do not touch the car chassis.

• Consider connecting a bypass capacitor across accessory switches that may be causing interference (e.g., horn, fan).

If you experience noise specifically when using an AM (MW/LW) tuner, move all the leads of the amplifier away from the car’s antenna (aerial) lead.

• DO ensure that all electrical connections are properly made and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

• DO consult your dealer if you are ever in doubt about the installation, operation or safety of your equipment.

• DON’T continue to operate the equipment if you are in any doubt about it working normally, or if it is damaged in any way.

• DON’T remove any fixed cover as this may expose dangerous voltages.

• DON’T leave equipment switched on when it is unattended unless it is specifically stated that it is designed for unattended operation or has a standby mode.

• DON’T use equipment such as personal stereos or radios so that you are distracted from the requirements of traffic safety.

• DON’T listen to headphones at high volume as such use can permanently damage your hearing.

• DON’T obstruct the ventilation of the equipment. Overheating will cause damage and shorten the life of the equipment.

• DON’T allow electrical equipment to be exposed to rain or moisture.

• NEVER let anyone, especially children, push anything into holes, slots or any other opening in the case – this could result in a fatal electrical shock.

• NEVER guess or take chances with electrical equipment of any kind – it is better to be safe than sorry!
