For first-time access, you must activate your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K1-R by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation.

Before You Start:

Power on your device.

Steps:

1. Select a language.

2. Click Next.

3. Input the same password in the Password and Confirm Password fields. It is highly recommended to create a strong password of your own choosing (using a minimum of 8 characters, including at least three of the following categories: upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and special characters) to increase the security of your product. Reset your password regularly, such as monthly or weekly, for better protection.

4. To activate network camera(s) connected to the device, you can either:

– Check ‘Use Device Password as Default’ to use the device password to activate inactive network camera(s).

– Enter a separate password to activate network camera(s).

5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. If you forget your password, you can reset it by email. To do this, check ‘Enable’ and enter an email address.

6. Click ‘Activate’.

The admin user can configure and use an unlock pattern to log in after the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K1-R is activated.

Set Unlock Pattern:

1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. Release the mouse when the pattern is done. The pattern must have at least 4 dots, and each dot can only be connected once.

2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

Log in via Unlock Pattern:

1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface to bring up the unlock screen.

2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

If you have forgotten your pattern, click ‘Forgot My Pattern’ or ‘Switch User’ to log in via password. If you draw the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will automatically switch to the normal password login mode.

If your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K1-R has logged out, you must log in before operating the menu and other functions.

Steps:

1. Select your User Name from the list on the login screen.

2. Input your password.

3. Click Login.

Note:

– If you forget the admin password, you can click ‘Forgot Password’ to reset it (requires prior email setup).

– If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the user account will be locked for 60 seconds.

The Live View interface provides various controls for managing your cameras.

General Controls:

– Click the auto-switch icon to start/stop automatically switching between screens.

– Click the all-day recording icon to start/stop it.

– Right-click a camera or click the full-screen icon to enter full-screen mode.

– Double-click a camera to view it in single-screen mode; double-click again to exit.

– Drag a camera’s live view screen to another screen to change its position.

– Scroll up/down with the mouse to switch to the previous/next screen.

To control a PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) camera, you must first configure its parameters.

1. Configure PTZ Parameters:

1. Preview a camera in live view and click the PTZ control icon on the shortcut menu.

2. Click ‘PTZ Parameter Settings’.

3. Set the PTZ camera parameters such as Baud Rate, Data Bit, Stop Bit, Parity, Flow Ctrl, PTZ Protocol, and Address. All parameters must match the PTZ camera’s settings.

4. Click OK.

2. Customize Presets:

A preset is a saved camera position.

1. In the PTZ control panel, select a desired preset number from the list.

2. Use the direction, zoom, and focus buttons to move the camera to the desired location.

3. Click the ‘Set’ icon to save the preset.

To call a preset, double-click it in the preset list.

3. Customize Patrols:

A patrol is a path that consists of a series of presets.

1. In the PTZ control panel, click the ‘Patrol’ tab.

2. Select a patrol number and click ‘Set’.

3. Click ‘+’ to add a key point.

4. Configure the key point by selecting a Preset, setting the Speed of travel to that point, and the Duration to stay at that point.

5. Click Apply.

To start a patrol, select it and click ‘Call’.

4. Customize Patterns:

A pattern records a continuous movement path.

1. In the PTZ control panel, click the ‘Pattern’ tab.

2. Select a pattern number and click ‘Record’.

3. Use the direction, zoom, and focus buttons to move the camera as desired. The path is recorded.

4. Click ‘Stop Recording’ to save the pattern.

To start a pattern, select it and click ‘Call’.

You can play back videos using Normal Playback for all recordings or Smart Playback for event-triggered recordings.

Normal Playback:

1. Go to the Playback menu.

2. Select a camera from the camera list on the left.

3. Select a date on the calendar. Dates with a blue triangle have available video recordings.

4. Use the timeline at the bottom to navigate. The blue bar indicates continuous video, and the red bar indicates event video. Position the cursor on the timeline and drag it to a specific time. You can also use the playback controls (Play, Pause, Fast Forward, etc.).

Smart Playback:

This function helps you find video segments with motion, line crossing, or intrusion events quickly.

1. Go to the Playback menu and click ‘Smart’.

2. Select a camera.

3. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar. Use the icons to draw a detection area for motion, line crossing, or intrusion.

4. The system will analyze the video, and the timeline will display segments where smart events occurred. You can then play these segments.

Sub-Periods Playback:

This allows you to play videos from multiple sub-periods of a day simultaneously.

1. Go to the Playback menu and click ‘Sub-periods’.

2. Select a camera and set a start and end time.

3. Select a window division mode (e.g., 4-Period). The DVR will divide the time range into equal segments and play them in separate windows.

4. Click the ‘Search’ icon to start playback.

You can create and export video clips to a backup device like a USB flash drive.

Before You Start:

Connect a backup device (USB flash drive, USB HDD, etc.) to your video recorder.

Back up during Playback:

1. Start video playback as you normally would.

2. Click the ‘Clip’ icon (scissors) on the playback control bar.

3. A timeline will appear. You can either:

– Click the ‘Set Start/End Time’ icon, define the start and end times in the pop-up window, and click OK.

– Drag the markers on the time bar to define the start and end of your clip.

4. Click the ‘Clip’ icon again to confirm the segment.

5. Click ‘Export’ to save the clip to your backup device.

Quick Backup from File Search:

1. Go to the ‘Search’ menu.

2. Set your search conditions (camera, date, etc.) and click ‘Search’.

3. Click ‘Quick Export’.

4. Select your backup device and a path.

5. Click OK to start exporting.

You can add new users and manage password settings through the configuration menu.

Add a User:

1. Go to Configuration -> User.

2. Click ‘Add’ and confirm your admin password.

3. Enter a ‘User Name’.

4. Enter a password in the ‘Password’ and ‘Confirm’ fields.

5. Select a ‘User Level’. A Guest user only has live view, playback, and log search permissions.

6. Click OK.

Set Password Resetting Email:

This allows you to recover your password via email if you forget it.

1. Go to Configuration -> User.

2. Click ‘Password Resetting Email’.

3. Enter the admin password for authorization.

4. Enter an email address.

5. Click OK.

Reset a Forgotten Password:

1. At the password login interface, click ‘Forgot Password’.

2. Follow the on-screen wizard to reset the password using the email address you previously configured.

Proper network configuration is required to operate your device over a network.

General Network Settings (TCP/IP):

1. Go to Configuration -> Network -> General (in Easy Mode) or Configuration -> Network -> General -> TCP/IP (in Expert Mode).

2. To obtain an IP address automatically, check ‘Enable DHCP’. This requires a DHCP server on your network.

3. If not using DHCP, manually enter the IPv4 Address, IPv4 Subnet Mask, and IPv4 Default Gateway.

4. To obtain DNS server addresses automatically (if DHCP is enabled), check ‘Obtain DNS Automatically’. Otherwise, manually enter the ‘Preferred DNS Server’ and ‘Alternate DNS Server’.

5. Click Apply.

Port Settings:

1. Go to Configuration -> Network -> General -> More Settings (in Expert Mode).

2. Here you can configure various ports:

– Server Port: For remote client software access (default 8000).

– HTTP Port: For remote web browser access (default 80).

– RTSP Port: For real-time streaming protocol (default 554).

– Alarm Host IP/Port: To send alarm messages to a remote PC with CMS software.

3. Click Apply after making changes.

Guarding Vision is a platform service that allows you to access and manage your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K1-R remotely using a mobile app.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration -> Network -> Platform Access.

2. Select the ‘Access Type’ as Guarding Vision.

3. Check ‘Enable’. A service terms pop-up will appear.

a. Scan the QR code to read the service terms and privacy statement.

b. Check ‘I have read and agree to Service Terms and Privacy Statement’.

c. Click OK.

4. Optional: Check ‘Stream Encryption’. This will require a verification code for remote access and live view.

5. Enter a code in the ‘Verification Code’ field. You can click Refresh to generate a random code.

6. Click Apply.

What to do next:

1. On the same screen, scan the first QR code to download the Guarding Vision app to your mobile phone.

2. Open the Guarding Vision app and scan the second QR code (the device QR code) to add your video recorder to your account.

You can add both analog cameras and network (IP) cameras to your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K1-R.

Add a Network Camera Manually:

1. Ensure the network camera is on the same network segment as your recorder and is activated.

2. Go to Configuration -> Camera -> IP Camera.

3. Click the ‘+’ (Add) button.

4. Enter the network camera parameters, including IP address, protocol, management port, user name, and password.

5. Optional: Click ‘Add More’ to add another network camera.

6. Click OK.

Add a Network Camera Automatically (from online devices):

1. Go to Configuration -> Camera -> IP Camera.

2. The recorder will display online cameras found on the same network segment.

3. If a camera is ‘Inactive’, select it and click ‘Activate’ to set its password.

4. Select the desired camera from the list and click the ‘+’ icon in its row to add it.

Edit a Connected Network Camera:

1. Go to Configuration -> Camera -> IP Camera.

2. In the list of added cameras, click the ‘Edit’ icon for the camera you want to modify.

3. Change the parameters as needed and click OK.

Motion detection enables the HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K1-R to detect moving objects and trigger alarms or recording.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration -> Camera -> Smart Event -> Motion Detection (in Easy Mode) or Configuration -> Event -> Normal Event -> Motion Detection (in Expert Mode).

2. Select a camera to configure.

3. Check ‘Enable’.

4. Under the ‘Area Settings’ tab, set the motion detection area:

– Click ‘Full Screen’ to set the entire view as the detection area.

– Drag on the preview window to draw custom motion detection areas (they will appear as a red grid).

– Click ‘Clear’ to remove the defined areas.

5. Adjust the ‘Sensitivity’ slider. A higher value makes the alarm more sensitive to movement.

6. Go to the ‘Arming Schedule’ tab to set the time periods when motion detection should be active.

7. Go to the ‘Linkage Action’ tab to configure what happens when motion is detected (e.g., Audible Warning, Send Email, Trigger Recording on specific channels).

8. Click Apply.

You can configure your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K1-R to record continuously, only when an event occurs, or a combination of both based on a schedule.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration -> Record -> Schedule.

2. Select a camera from the ‘Camera No.’ drop-down list.

3. Check ‘Enable’ to enable the recording schedule for that camera.

4. Configure the schedule using one of two methods:

Method 1: Using the Edit Menu

a. Click ‘Edit’.

b. In the pop-up window, select a day of the week (‘Weekday’).

c. To set an all-day schedule, check ‘All Day’ and select a ‘Type’ (e.g., Continuous or Event).

d. To set specific time periods, uncheck ‘All Day’ and define up to 8 time periods with their corresponding schedule type.

e. You can use the ‘Copy’ button to apply the schedule to other days.

f. Click OK.

Method 2: Drawing on the Timeline

a. Select a recording type (e.g., Continuous, Event) from the color-coded legend.

b. On the timeline grid, click and drag the mouse over the desired time periods for each day to ‘paint’ the schedule.

5. Click Apply to save the schedule.

A newly installed Hard Disk Drive (HDD) must be initialized before it can be used to save videos and information on your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K1-R.

Before You Start:

Install at least one HDD inside your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Go to Configuration -> Record -> Storage.

2. The installed HDD(s) will be displayed in a list. Select the HDD you want to initialize by checking the box next to it.

3. Click the ‘Init’ button.

4. A confirmation prompt will appear, warning you that all data on the disk will be erased. Click Yes to proceed.

5. The recorder will begin initializing (formatting) the HDD. Once complete, the status of the HDD will change to ‘Normal’.

You can upgrade your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K1-R’s firmware either locally from a USB device or online.

Important: Do not shut down or turn off the power during the upgrade process.

Local Upgrade:

1. Store the upgrade firmware file on a backup device (like a USB flash drive) and connect it to your recorder.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the ‘…’ button next to the Firmware version information.

4. In the ‘Device Name’ dropdown, select your backup device.

5. Select the upgrade firmware file from the list.

6. Click ‘Upgrade’. Your device will reboot automatically after the upgrade is complete.

Online Upgrade:

1. Ensure Guarding Vision is enabled and configured correctly.

2. Go to Maintenance.

3. Click the ‘…’ button.

4. Go to the ‘Online Upgrade’ tab.

5. You can choose:

– Auto Download: The device will automatically check for and download the latest firmware.

– Test Upgrade: Click this to manually check for and download the latest firmware.

6. If a new firmware version is available, the device will prompt you to upgrade. The device will reboot automatically after the upgrade.

You can restore your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K1-R to its factory settings through the Maintenance menu.

Steps:

1. Go to Maintenance.

2. Select the type of restore you want to perform:

– Simple Restore: Restores all parameters to factory defaults, EXCEPT for network settings (IP address, subnet mask, gateway, etc.) and user account parameters.

– Factory Defaults: Restores ALL parameters to the factory default settings, including network and user accounts.

– Restore to Inactive: Restores the device to its initial inactive state, requiring you to set a new admin password upon restart. It leaves all settings unchanged except for user accounts.

3. After selecting a restore type, a confirmation prompt will appear. Click ‘Yes’.

4. The device will reboot automatically with the restored settings.

You can access your HIKVISION DS-7216HGHI-K1-R for live view, playback, and configuration using a web browser.

Steps:

1. Open a web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox).

2. In the address bar, type the IP address of your video recorder and press Enter. If you have changed the HTTP port from the default of 80, you must specify it. For example: http://192.168.1.64:81

3. On the login page, enter your ‘user name’ and ‘password’.

4. Click ‘Login’.

5. The first time you log in, you may be prompted to install a plug-in. Follow the installation prompts to install it. You may need to close and reopen the web browser to complete the installation.

6. After logging in, you will see the live view interface. You can navigate to other pages like Playback, Configuration, and Log using the tabs at the top of the page.
