For first-time access, you need to activate the HIKVISION DS-7104HGHI-F1 by setting an admin password. No operation is allowed before activation.

Before you start, power on your device.

Steps:

1. Select a language.

2. Click Next.

3. Input the same password in the Password and Confirm Password fields.

4. Activate network camera(s) connected to the device. You can either check ‘Use Device Password as Default’ to use the DVR’s password to activate the inactive network camera(s) or enter a separate password.

5. Optional: Set an email address for password resetting. If you forget your password, you can reset it by email. Check ‘Enable’ and enter an email address.

6. Click Activate.

The admin user can configure and use an unlock pattern to log in after the device is activated.

Set Unlock Pattern:

1. Use the mouse to draw a pattern among the 9 dots on the screen. Release the mouse when the pattern is done. The pattern must have at least 4 dots, and each dot can be connected only once.

2. Draw the same pattern again to confirm it. When the two patterns match, the pattern is configured successfully.

Log in via Unlock Pattern:

1. Right-click the mouse on the live view interface.

2. Draw the pre-defined pattern to unlock and enter the menu operation.

Note: If you have forgotten your pattern, click ‘Forgot My Pattern’ or ‘Switch User’ to log in via password. If you draw the wrong pattern more than 5 times, the system will switch to the normal password login mode automatically.

If your video recorder has logged out, you must log in before operating the menu and other functions.

Steps:

1. Select a User Name from the dropdown list on the login screen.

2. Input the corresponding password.

3. Click Login.

Note: If you forget the admin password, you can click ‘Forgot Password’ to reset it. If you enter the wrong password 7 times, the user account will be locked for 60 seconds.

The Live View interface allows you to monitor your cameras in real-time. Here are some basic operations:

• Click the auto-switch icon to start/stop automatically switching between screens.

• Click the record icon to start/stop all-day recording for all cameras.

• Right-click a camera or click the full-screen icon to enter full-screen mode.

• Double-click a camera to view it in single-screen mode. Double-click again to exit.

• Drag a camera’s live view screen to another screen to change its position.

• Scroll the mouse wheel up/down to switch to the previous/next screen.

Positioning the cursor on a camera window reveals a shortcut menu with the following options:

Additionally, icons in the upper-right corner of each camera screen indicate its status:

You must configure PTZ parameters before you can control a PTZ camera.

Steps:

1. In live view, preview a camera and click the PTZ control icon on its shortcut menu.

2. Click ‘PTZ Parameter Settings’.

3. Set the PTZ camera parameters, such as Baud Rate, Data Bit, Stop Bit, Parity, Flow Ctrl, PTZ Protocol, and Address. All parameters should be the same as the PTZ camera’s settings.

4. Click OK.

Note: For Coaxitron cameras/domes, you can select the PTZ protocol to UTC (Coaxitron). AHD and HDCVI cameras also support coaxitron control. Selecting this protocol will make other parameters unavailable.

Customize a Preset:

A preset is a saved location the PTZ camera can quickly point to.

1. In the PTZ control panel, select a desired preset number from the list.

2. Use the direction buttons, zoom, and focus to point the camera to the desired location.

3. Click the ‘Set’ icon to save the preset.

4. To go to a preset, double-click it in the preset list.

Customize a Patrol:

A patrol is a path consisting of a series of presets.

1. In the PTZ control panel, click the ‘Patrol’ tab.

2. Select a desired patrol and click ‘Set’.

3. Click ‘+’ to add a key point. A key point corresponds to a preset.

4. Configure the key point parameters: Preset number, Duration (time to stay at the point), and Speed (speed to move to the next point).

5. Click ‘Apply’.

6. To run a patrol, select it and click ‘Call’.

Customize a Pattern:

A pattern records the exact movement path of the PTZ camera.

1. In the PTZ control panel, click the ‘Pattern’ tab.

2. Select a pattern and click ‘Record’.

3. Use the PTZ controls to move the camera as desired. The movement path is recorded.

4. Click ‘Stop Recording’ to save the pattern.

5. To run a pattern, select it and click ‘Call’.

Steps to play back recorded videos:

1. Go to the ‘Playback’ menu.

2. Select one or more cameras from the camera list on the left.

3. Select a date on the calendar for playback. Dates with a blue triangle have available video recordings.

4. The timeline will show recorded video segments. Blue bars indicate normal video, and red bars indicate event video.

5. Use the playback controls at the bottom to play, pause, reverse, speed up, or slow down the video.

6. You can also position the cursor on the playback window to show a control bar with additional options like add tag, audio on/off, digital zoom, and lock/unlock video.

Smart playback analyzes video for motion, line crossing, or intrusion detection information, allowing you to quickly review important events.

Before you start, ensure you have configured motion detection, line crossing, or intrusion detection rules for the camera.

Steps:

1. Go to the ‘Playback’ menu.

2. Click the ‘Smart’ tab at the bottom of the calendar panel.

3. Select a camera.

4. Position the cursor on the playback window to show the control bar. Use the icons to draw detection areas for motion, line crossing, or intrusion.

5. The system will only play back video segments where the selected smart events occurred in the specified areas.

6. You can click the ‘Play Strategy’ icon to configure playback speeds for normal video versus smart event video, or to skip normal video entirely.

You can export video clips to a backup device like a USB flash drive or USB HDD.

Before you start, connect a backup device to your video recorder.

Steps:

1. Start playback of the video you want to back up.

2. On the playback control bar, click the ‘Clip’ icon (scissors).

3. A timeline segment will appear. You can set the start and end time for the clip in two ways:

• Click the ‘Start Clipping’ icon, let the video play to the desired end point, and click the ‘End Clipping’ icon.

• Drag the start and end markers on the time bar to define the clip segment.

4. Click the ‘Export’ icon.

5. Select the backup device and path, then click OK to export the clip.

Search and Export Files:

1. Go to ‘Search’.

2. Set search conditions such as camera, start/end time, and file type.

3. Click ‘Search’. A list of matching files will be displayed.

4. From the list, you can:

• Click the play icon to play the video.

• Click the lock icon to lock the file, preventing it from being overwritten.

• Select one or more files and click ‘Export’ to save them to a connected backup device.

Quick Backup:

This allows for a faster export process.

1. Go to ‘Search’.

2. Set your search conditions.

3. Click ‘Quick Export’.

4. Select the backup device and path.

5. Click OK to start exporting.

The default ‘admin’ user has permission to add, delete, and edit other users.

Steps:

1. Go to ‘Configuration’ → ‘User’.

2. Click ‘Add’ and confirm your admin password.

3. In the Add User window, enter a new User Name.

4. Enter and confirm a password for the new user.

5. Select a ‘User Level’. A Guest user has live view, playback, and log search permissions only.

6. Click OK.

Guarding Vision provides a mobile phone application and platform service for remote access.

Steps:

1. Go to ‘Configuration’ → ‘Network’ → ‘Platform Access’.

2. Select ‘Access Type’ as ‘Guarding Vision’.

3. Check ‘Enable’. A service terms pop-up will appear.

1) Scan the QR code to read the service terms and privacy statement.

2) Check ‘I have read and agree to Service Terms and Privacy Statement’.

3) Click OK.

4. Optional: Check ‘Stream Encryption’ to require a verification code for remote access.

5. Optional: Check ‘Custom’ to edit the Server Address if needed.

6. Enter a code in ‘Verification Code’. You can click Refresh to generate a random code.

7. Click ‘Apply’.

After setup, you can access your recorder via the Guarding Vision app by scanning the second QR code displayed on this screen to add the device.

Before you start, ensure your recorder is on a local network with an SMTP mail server and that your network parameters are configured correctly.

Steps:

1. Go to ‘Configuration’ → ‘Network’ → ‘Email’.

2. Set the email parameters:

• Server Authentication: (Optional) Check to enable SMTP server authentication and enter the User Name and Password for the sender’s email account.

• SMTP Server: Enter the address of your SMTP server (e.g., smtp.gmail.com).

• SMTP Port: Enter the server port (e.g., 25, 465, 587).

• SSL/TLS: (Optional) Check to enable SSL/TLS if required by your SMTP server.

• Attached Picture: Check if you want event images attached to the email.

• Sender: Enter the sender’s name.

• Sender’s Address: Enter the sender’s email address.

• Select Receiver: Select a receiver (1, 2, or 3) to configure.

• Receiver: Enter the recipient’s name.

• Receiver’s Address: Enter the recipient’s email address.

3. Click ‘Apply’. You can then enable ‘Send Email’ in the linkage action settings for specific events.

Before adding a network camera, ensure it is on the same network segment as your recorder, the connection is valid, and the camera is activated (has a password set).

Add Manually:

1. Go to ‘Configuration’ → ‘Camera’ → ‘IP Camera’.

2. Click the ‘+’ (Add) button.

3. Set the network camera parameters, including IP address, protocol, management port, user name, and password.

4. Optional: Click ‘Add More’ to add another network camera.

5. Click OK.

Add Automatically Searched Camera:

This method works for online cameras on the same network segment.

1. Go to ‘Configuration’ → ‘Camera’ → ‘IP Camera’. The online cameras are displayed in the camera list.

2. Select the camera you wish to add from the list.

3. Click the green ‘+’ icon in the ‘Add/Delete’ column to add the camera.

Motion detection enables the recorder to detect moving objects and trigger alarms or recording.

Steps:

1. Go to ‘Configuration’ → ‘Camera’ → ‘Smart Event’ → ‘Motion Detection’.

2. Select a camera from the dropdown list.

3. Check ‘Enable’.

4. In the ‘Area Settings’ tab, set the motion detection area. You can click ‘Full Screen’ to select the entire view or drag on the preview window to draw customized areas. Click ‘Clear’ to remove the defined areas.

5. Adjust the ‘Sensitivity’ slider. A higher value makes the alarm more sensitive to movement.

6. Go to the ‘Arming Schedule’ tab to set the time periods when motion detection should be active.

7. Go to the ‘Linkage Action’ tab to configure what happens when motion is detected (e.g., audible warning, send email, trigger recording).

8. Click ‘Apply’.

You can schedule your recorder to record continuously or only when an event occurs.

Steps:

1. Go to ‘Configuration’ → ‘Record’ → ‘Schedule’.

2. Select a camera from the ‘Camera No.’ dropdown.

3. Check ‘Enable’.

4. Configure the schedule using one of these methods:

• Using the Edit button:

a. Click ‘Edit’.

b. Select a day of the week.

c. To set an all-day schedule, check ‘All Day’ and select the schedule type (Continuous or Event).

d. For specific time periods, uncheck ‘All Day’ and set the Start/End Time and schedule type. You can set up to 8 periods per day.

e. Click OK.

• Drawing on the timeline:

a. Select a schedule type (Continuous or Event) from the legend.

b. Drag the mouse on the timeline grid for the desired day(s) and time(s) to draw a colored bar representing the schedule.

5. Click ‘Apply’ to save the schedule.

A newly installed HDD must be initialized before it can be used to save videos.

Steps:

1. Go to ‘Configuration’ → ‘Record’ → ‘Storage’.

2. A list of installed HDDs will be displayed. Select the HDD you want to initialize.

3. Click the ‘Init’ button.

4. A confirmation prompt will appear, warning you that all data on the disk will be erased. Click Yes to proceed.

5. The HDD status will change to ‘Initializing’ and then to ‘Normal’ once the process is complete.

A privacy mask allows you to block out certain areas of a camera’s view so they are not visible or recorded.

Steps:

1. Go to ‘Configuration’ → ‘Camera’ → ‘Privacy Mask’.

2. Select the camera you want to configure.

3. Check ‘Enable’.

4. Drag your mouse on the preview window to draw a rectangular area. This area will be masked.

5. You can configure up to 4 privacy mask areas per camera. The size of each area can be adjusted.

6. To clear an area, check the corresponding ‘Clear Area’ box. To clear all masks, click ‘Clear All’.

7. Click ‘Apply’ to save the settings.

Configure HDD Groups:

This allows you to assign specific cameras to record to specific HDDs (if you have multiple installed).

1. Go to ‘Configuration’ → ‘Record’ → ‘Storage Mode’.

2. Select ‘Mode’ as ‘Group’.

3. Select a ‘Group No.’.

4. Check the cameras you want to assign to this group.

5. Click ‘Apply’.

6. Reboot the video recorder to activate the settings.

7. After reboot, go to ‘Configuration’ → ‘Record’ → ‘Storage’, click the edit icon for the desired HDD, and assign it the corresponding Group number.

Configure HDD Quota:

This allows you to allocate a specific amount of storage space for each camera.

1. Go to ‘Configuration’ → ‘Record’ → ‘Storage Mode’.

2. Select ‘Mode’ as ‘Quota’.

3. Select a camera to set the quota for.

4. Enter the desired storage capacity in the ‘Max. Record Capacity (GB)’ and ‘Max. Picture Capacity (GB)’ fields.

5. Click ‘Apply’.

6. Reboot the video recorder to activate the new settings.

Do not shut down or turn off the power during the upgrade process.

Local Upgrade:

1. Store the upgrade firmware file on a USB backup device and connect it to your recorder.

2. Go to ‘Maintenance’.

3. Click the folder icon next to ‘Firmware’.

4. Select your backup device in ‘Device Name’.

5. Select the upgrade firmware file from the list.

6. Click ‘Upgrade’. Your device will reboot automatically after the upgrade is complete.

Online Upgrade:

1. Ensure Guarding Vision is enabled and configured.

2. Go to ‘Maintenance’.

3. Click the ‘+’ icon.

4. Go to ‘Online Upgrade’.

5. The system will check for new firmware. You can either use ‘Auto Download’ to automatically check and download, or ‘Test Upgrade’ to manually check.

6. If a new firmware version is available, follow the prompts to upgrade your device. It will reboot automatically.

Steps to restore default settings:

1. Go to ‘Maintenance’.

2. Select the restoring type:

• Simple Restore: Restores all parameters to factory defaults, EXCEPT for network settings (IP address, subnet mask, etc.) and user accounts.

• Factory Defaults: Restores ALL parameters to the factory default settings.

• Restore to Inactive: Restores the device to an inactive state, requiring you to set a new admin password upon next startup. It leaves all other settings unchanged except for restoring user accounts.

3. Click ‘Yes’ to confirm. The device will reboot automatically.

You can use web browsers like Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome.

Steps:

1. Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network as the recorder.

2. In the address bar, type the IP address of the video recorder and press Enter.

3. If prompted, follow the installation prompts to install the required plug-in. You may need to close the web browser to complete the installation.

4. On the login page, enter the user name (e.g., admin) and password.

5. Click ‘Login’.

After logging in, you will see the Live View interface and can access other functions like Playback and Configuration.
