The EXTRON TOUCHLINK TLP 525M and related series touchpanels include the following features:

• Light sensor: Adjusts screen brightness based on ambient room lighting.

• Automatic clock synchronization: Allows the touchpanel to display the accurate time and date.

• Energy-saving features: An adjustable sleep timer puts the touchpanel into sleep mode, and a motion detector wakes it up.

The installation process involves several key steps:

1. Download and Install Software: Before starting, download and install the latest versions of the required software, such as GUI Designer, Global Configurator Plus and Professional, ControlScript Deployment Utility, and Toolbelt.

2. Obtain Network Information: Get the following details from your network administrator:

• Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) status (on or off). If off, you will need an IP address, Subnet mask, and Gateway.

• User name (admin or user).

• Password (factory default is the device serial number).

• MAC address (found on the rear panel label).

• Information regarding SSL security certificates and IEEE 802.1X authentication if required.

3. Mount and Cable the Unit: Mount the touchpanel in its desired location and connect the necessary cables.

4. Set Up Network Communication: Connect your PC, the control processor, and the touchpanel to the same Ethernet subnetwork. Use the On-screen Menus or Toolbelt to set the network settings (DHCP status, IP address, etc.).

5. Configure or Program the Touchpanel: Use the appropriate software (e.g., GUI Designer, Global Configurator) to configure the touchpanel’s interface and functions.

The front panel includes several key components:

• A – LCD touchscreen: A tough, scratch-resistant touchscreen. The 525M model features a 5-inch screen with 800×480 (WVGA) resolution.

• B – Motion sensor (two): Detects motion between 3 to 5 feet (0.9 to 1.5 meters) from the panel. When Sleep Mode and Wake on Motion are enabled, the touchpanel enters sleep mode after a period of inactivity and wakes up when motion is detected.

• C – Communication LED: Shows the configuration and connection status. It is unlit during normal operation, blinks if configured but not connected to a control processor, and lights steadily if not configured.

• D – Light sensor: Monitors ambient light levels and adjusts screen brightness accordingly if Auto Brightness is enabled.

• E – Front status light: The TLP Pro 525M has two LEDs (one on each side). These lights can be configured to blink or remain lit (red or green) to provide feedback about the system status.

The rear panel of the TLP Pro x25M series includes the following features:

• A – MENU button: Activates the On-screen Menus.

• B – RESET button: Allows the unit to be reset in one of three modes and can also be used to toggle the DHCP client.

• C – Reset LED: Provides feedback about the reset status when the RESET button is pressed.

• D – Mounting slots: The TLP Pro 525M has two slots (one in each top corner) for mounting.

• E – Digital input monitoring port: A two-pole captive screw port (1=signal, G=ground) that monitors digital input with or without a +5 VDC pull-up.

• F – LAN/PoE connector: For connecting to the network and receiving Power over Ethernet (PoE).

• G – USB port: Compatible with USB 2.0.

• H – Speaker: Provides audible feedback for the user. The TLP Pro 525M has a single speaker.

• I – Slot for mounting plate: The tongue at the bottom of the mounting plate fits into this slot for wall mounting.

• J – Mounting screw: Tightens against the tongue of the mounting plate to secure the touchpanel.

The two-pole captive screw port monitors digital input. The logic state depends on whether the pullup resistor is enabled or disabled.

The EXTRON TOUCHLINK TLP 525M must be powered by Power over Ethernet (PoE). You can use a PoE power injector or a PoE switch.

Using a PoE Power Injector:

1. Connect a straight-through Ethernet cable from the power injector’s LAN port to a network switch or router. This cable carries network information.

2. Connect a second straight-through Ethernet cable from the power injector’s LAN+PWR OUT port to the touchpanel. This cable carries both network information and 48 VDC power.

3. Connect the IEC power cord of the power injector to a convenient 100 VAC to 240 VAC, 50-60 Hz power source.

Using a PoE Switch:

Alternatively, connect the touchpanel directly to a port on a PoE-enabled network switch.

To access the setup menu, use a fine-bladed screwdriver to press the MENU button located on the rear panel of the device.

The menus open at the Status screen. There are several different panels you can access:

• Status

• LinkLicenses

• System Information

• Network

• Display

• Audio

• Advanced

You can select Status, Network, Display, Audio, and Advanced screens by pressing the appropriate button in the navigation panel at the top of the screen. The selected button will be yellow. LinkLicenses and System Information are accessible only from the Status screen. Press the red Exit button in the top right corner to apply changes, save, and close the menus.

To Enable a LinkLicense:

1. From the Status screen in the on-screen menu, move the toggle switch in the LinkLicenses pane to the right. Note that a LinkLicense must be applied to the touchpanel for the toggle switch to be active.

2. An “Enable LinkLicenses” dialog box will open, warning that all user-loaded project files will be removed.

3. Click “Enable LinkLicenses”. The touchpanel will reboot. All previous projects will need to be reloaded.

To Disable a LinkLicense:

1. From the Status screen, move the toggle switch in the LinkLicenses pane to the left.

2. A “Disable LinkLicenses” dialog box will open.

3. Click “Disable LinkLicenses”. The touchpanel will reboot, and all projects that were on the touchpanel will be removed and need to be reloaded.

Pairing is done from the System Information section of the Status tab in the on-screen menu. This process is not applicable if the touchpanel is in LinkLicense mode, as it acts as the controller itself.

1. Click Edit in the System Information panel on the Status page. The System ID dialog box opens.

2. Enter the Primary Controller Address.

3. Enter the four-digit System ID number generated by the configuration software (e.g., ControlScript Deployment Utility or Global Configurator). This links the touchpanel to the processor.

After entry, the dialog box closes, and the address and ID are displayed in the System Information pane.

From the on-screen menu, press the Network button.

1. Select the Max Ethernet Speed (100Mbps or 1.0Gbps).

2. If IP addresses are assigned automatically, press On for DHCP. In this mode, you can edit the Host Name, but other addresses are grayed out as they are set by the DHCP server.

3. If IP addresses are assigned manually, press Off for DHCP. In this mode, the Host Name is grayed out, but you can edit the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS Primary addresses.

4. To edit an address field (when DHCP is off), press the corresponding button. A numeric keypad will appear.

5. Select an octet and enter the 3-digit value (0-255). When a valid value is entered, the next octet is automatically selected.

6. Press OK to save the changes for that address.

7. After making changes on the Network screen, the buttons will turn blue. Press Apply to save all new values or Revert to return to the previous settings.

Press the Display button in the navigation panel of the on-screen menu. The following settings are available:

• Sleep Timer: Toggle between On and Off. When On, the screen goes dark (Sleep mode) after a period of inactivity. Use the up and down arrows to set the inactivity period between 1 and 120 minutes.

• Auto Brightness: Toggle between On and Off. When On, the light sensor automatically adjusts screen backlighting based on ambient light. When Off, brightness is not affected by ambient light.

• LCD Brightness: Use the slider control to manually adjust the screen brightness between 0 and 100.

• Wake on Motion: Toggle between On and Off. For this to work, the touchpanel must be in sleep mode. When On, motion detected by the motion sensor will wake the panel. When Off, the panel wakes only when the screen is pressed.

Press the Audio button in the on-screen menu to open the Audio screen. Use the slider controls to adjust the volume settings:

• System: Sets the maximum volume for all other sound settings. For example, if System volume is at 80%, a Sound volume of 90% would be 90% of 80 (i.e., 72% of maximum).

• Click: Sets the volume for audible feedback from events like a screen button press.

• Sound: Sets the volume of audio from any audio file playback.

• Speaker icon: Click the speaker icon at the bottom of each slider to toggle between audio on and audio mute for that specific sound type.

The setup menu PIN is a 4-digit number. From the Advanced screen in the on-screen menu, find the Menu PIN section.

1. To enable a PIN, click On. To disable it, click Off. To edit an existing PIN, click Change.

2. If no PIN has been set, clicking On or Change opens the PIN entry dialog.

3. A numeric keypad appears. Press a number on the keypad; a blue circle appears in the first entry box.

4. Select the other three digits for the PIN. The screen will then change to “Confirm New Menu Pin.”

5. Enter the PIN a second time. If the second entry matches the first, the PIN is set, and the dialog closes.

To safely clean your Extron product, follow these guidelines. All Extron products can be cleaned with:

• 70% concentration or higher isopropyl alcohol

• Disinfectant cleaners that are non-ammonium based and contain 2% or less sodium hypochlorite (2% bleach, 98% water).

Follow these steps when cleaning:

1. If possible, unplug the device.

2. Spray the cleaner on a lint-free cloth until the cloth is damp.

3. Do not spray the cleaner directly onto the product.

4. Gently clean the product surface using the damp cloth.

1. Install a junction box or wall box according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The TLP Pro 525M mounts to a 1-gang junction box.

2. Fasten the correct mounting plate to the wall box using the provided screws. Use the mounting holes on the plate that are appropriate for your junction box type (e.g., US, MK, EU).

3. Run and connect cables to the back of the touchpanel.

4. Position the touchpanel so that the mounting slots on its rear align with the hooks on the mounting plate. The TLP Pro 525M mounting plate has two hooks, one in each top corner.

5. Move the touchpanel inwards so the slots move over the hooks.

6. Move the touchpanel down so it is seated securely on the hooks and the tongue at the bottom of the mounting plate sits in the groove at the bottom of the touchpanel.

7. Tighten the mounting screw on the bottom of the unit to fasten the touchpanel securely to the mounting plate.

To connect an occupancy sensor:

1. Port Configuration: Set the port to Input (switch 1 open, switch 2 open).

2. Wiring: Connect the occupancy sensor’s control signal wire to the “1” (signal) terminal of the digital I/O port. Connect the sensor’s ground wire to the “G” (ground) terminal.

3. Operation:

• Room Occupied: The digital input reads +2.8 to 24 VDC, which corresponds to a Logic High state.

• Room Unoccupied: The digital input reads 0 VDC, which corresponds to a Logic Low state.

An occupancy sensor typically supplies +24 VDC when occupancy is detected. After a defined period of no occupancy, the sensor supplies 0 VDC.

To connect a simple two-position switch:

1. Port Configuration: Set the port to Input with pullup (switch 1 open, switch 2 closed).

2. Wiring: Connect the two terminals of the switch to the “1” (signal) and “G” (ground) terminals of the digital I/O port.

3. Operation:

• Two Position Switch Open: The digital input reads +5 VDC from the internal pullup resistor, which corresponds to a Logic High state.

• Two Position Switch Closed: The digital input is shorted to ground and reads 0 VDC, which corresponds to a Logic Low state.

This mode boots the unit with its factory-installed firmware for a single power cycle, which is useful if a firmware update fails.

Activation:

1. Remove power from the touchpanel.

2. Press and hold down the recessed RESET button on the rear panel while reapplying power to the unit.

3. When power is restored, the Reset LED will light. Continue to hold the RESET button for another 2 seconds, then release it. The touchpanel will enter factory firmware mode.

4. You can now upload new firmware to the unit as desired.

Result:

The unit reverts to its factory-installed firmware for this session. All user files and settings (drivers, IP settings) are maintained. To return to the previously running firmware version, simply cycle the power to the unit.

This mode resets all IP settings to their factory defaults.

Activation:

1. Hold down the RESET button for about 6 seconds until the Reset LED blinks twice (once at 3 seconds and again at 6 seconds).

2. Within 1 second of the second blink, release and press the RESET button again momentarily (for less than 1 second).

Result:

• The IP address is reset to 192.168.254.251.

• The subnet mask is reset to 255.255.255.0.

• The default gateway address is reset to 0.0.0.0.

• All other IP settings, addresses, domain, and host names are reset to factory default.

• DHCP is turned off.

This mode resets all IP and touchpanel settings, including passwords, to factory defaults and removes all configurations.

Activation:

1. Hold down the RESET button for about 9 seconds until the Reset LED blinks three times (at 3, 6, and 9 seconds).

2. Within 1 second of the third blink, release and press the RESET button again momentarily (for less than 1 second).

Result:

• Performs all actions of the “Reset Network Settings” mode.

• Removes the touchpanel user interface layout and configurations.

• Resets all touchpanel settings to factory default.

• Passwords are reset. The default password is “extron” (for either admin or user accounts).

This mode toggles the DHCP client between enabled and disabled. By default, DHCP is off.

Activation:

1. Press the RESET button five times consecutively.

2. Release the button. Do not press the button again within 3 seconds after the fifth press.

Result:

• If DHCP was enabled, it is now disabled. The Reset LED blinks three times. The unit reverts to its previously-set static IP address.

• If DHCP was disabled, it is now enabled. The Reset LED blinks six times.
