When using your DELONGHI HFX85W15C, always observe the following basic safety precautions:

Electric Shock and Fire Hazards:

• Do not operate the heater with a damaged cord or plug, or after it has malfunctioned or been damaged. Return it to an authorized service facility.

• To prevent electric shock, match the wide blade of the plug to the wide slot of the outlet and fully insert it.

• Do not insert foreign objects into any ventilation or exhaust opening, as this may cause electric shock, fire, or damage.

• To prevent a possible fire, do not block air intakes or exhaust in any manner.

• The heater has hot, arcing, or sparking parts inside. Do not use it in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable liquids are used or stored.

Location and Placement:

• This heater is not for use in bathrooms, laundry areas, or similar indoor locations. Never place it where it may fall into a bathtub or other water container.

• Do not use the heater near a bath, shower, or swimming pool.

• Keep combustible materials like furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, and curtains at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from the front and top of the heater, and away from the sides and rear.

• The heater must not be located immediately below a socket-outlet.

Operational Safety:

• This heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns, do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces. Use the handle when moving the heater.

• If the visual alarm flashes, it means parts of the heater are getting excessively hot. Immediately turn the heater off and inspect for any objects on or adjacent to it that may cause high temperatures. DO NOT OPERATE THE HEATER WITH THE ALARM FLASHING.

• Extreme caution is necessary when the heater is used by or near children or invalids, and whenever it is left operating and unattended.

• Always unplug the heater when not in use.

Power and Cord Safety:

• To prevent overload and blown fuses, ensure no other appliance is plugged into the same outlet or a different outlet on the same circuit.

• It is normal for the plug and cord to feel warm. However, a plug or cord that becomes hot to the touch or distorted may be due to a worn outlet. Replace worn outlets before further use.

• Do not run the cord under carpeting or cover it with throw rugs or runners. Arrange the cord away from traffic areas.

Before using the DELONGHI HFX85W15C for the first time, follow these steps:

1. The filter is provided with a protective wrapper that must be removed. Turn the filter cover counter-clockwise to open, remove the filter, and take off the plastic wrapper.

2. Place the unwrapped filter back into its housing and secure the cover by turning it clockwise.

3. Check that no pieces of polystyrene or other packaging material have been left on the appliance. If necessary, use a vacuum cleaner to remove any debris.

4. When switching on the appliance for the first time, allow it to run at full power for at least two hours. This helps to get rid of any unpleasant smell from the manufacturing process. Ensure the room is well-ventilated during this operation. It is normal for the appliance to emit small cracking sounds when you first turn it on.

1. Connect the appliance to a power outlet. The unit will emit three beeps, the power indicator light (O) will come on, and the appliance will enter STANDBY mode.

2. To turn the appliance on, press the ON/STANDBY button (A) on the remote control or the control panel.

3. Select an operating mode (Heating or Fan).

4. To turn the appliance off, press the ON/STANDBY button (A) again. If the unit was in heat mode, the display will count down for about 10 seconds before it shuts off completely. This is a cool-down period.

5. To completely turn off the appliance, remove the plug from the socket after it has entered STANDBY mode. Never turn off the appliance by only pulling the plug.

1. Turn the appliance on by pressing the ON/STANDBY button (A).

2. Press the heating button (F) on the remote control. The display will show the heating symbol (F1).

3. To set the desired temperature, press the temperature buttons (G). The minimum setting is 50°F (10°C) and the maximum is 82°F (28°C).

4. You can adjust the fan speed in heating mode by pressing the speed buttons (L). There are 6 fan speeds available in this mode.

When the set temperature is reached, the appliance will automatically stop heating but will continue to work at a reduced airflow speed for a preset time. It will restart heating as needed to maintain the desired temperature.

The ECO function is available only in the heating operating mode. It automatically sets the power level to guarantee the best comfort while reducing energy consumption.

To activate this function, simply press the ECO button (H) on the remote control while the unit is in heating mode. The display will show “ECO”.

In fan mode, the appliance circulates air without heating the room.

1. Turn the appliance on by pressing the ON/STANDBY button (A).

2. Press the fan button (M) on the remote control. The display will show the fan symbol (M1).

3. In fan mode, 10 speeds are available. To increase or decrease the fan speed, press the speed buttons (L) on the remote control. The value changes one fan speed at a time.

The timer can be used to delay the start-up or shut-down of the appliance. This function can be activated from any operating mode.

Delayed Switch-On:

1. With the appliance in STANDBY mode, press the timer button (K) on the remote control.

2. The display will show the timer symbol (K1) and “h”.

3. Repeatedly press the timer button to select the desired time from the following choices: 0.5h, 1h, 2h, 4h, 6h, 8h, and 12h.

4. Once set, the time will remain on the display for a few seconds and then disappear. The appliance will automatically turn on with its previous settings when the programmed time is reached.

Delayed Shut-Off:

1. With the appliance ON, press the timer button (K).

2. The display will show the timer symbol (K1) and “h”.

3. Repeatedly press the timer button to select the desired shut-off time (0.5h, 1h, 2h, 4h, 6h, 8h, 12h).

4. After a few seconds, the display will return to normal. The appliance will automatically shut off when the time is reached.

To cancel the timer, press the timer button (K) twice rapidly.

Oscillation:

To distribute the airflow over a larger area, press the oscillation button (J) on the remote control. The appliance will oscillate right and left. To stop the oscillation in a desired position, press the oscillation button (J) again.

Airflow Direction:

This function allows you to orient the airflow. There are two positions: “H” (high direction) and “L” (low direction). Press the airflow direction button (I). The buzzer will sound and the display will show “H” or “L” for a few seconds.

Change Temperature Scale (°F / °C):

To change the temperature scale, press the temperature button (G) and speed button (L) on the remote at the same time. The display will show “F” for Fahrenheit or “C” for Celsius for 3 seconds.

No Beep Function:

To activate or deactivate the beep sound, press the airflow direction button (I) and oscillation button (J) together. The display will show “nb” for a few seconds. This function is available in any operating mode, including standby.

Adjust Display Brightness:

The appliance has three brightness levels. To change the operating brightness level, press the ECO button (H) and timer button (K) together. The display will show “L1”, “L2”, or “L3”. Within 4-5 seconds, you can increase or decrease the brightness level using the speed buttons (L). After 4-5 seconds, the selected level will be set.

Before any maintenance, always unplug the appliance from the wall socket.

General Maintenance:

Use only a soft damp cloth to clean the appliance. Do not use abrasive powders or solvents. Regularly use a vacuum cleaner to clean the air intake and outlet grilles while the appliance is in use.

Air Purification Filter Maintenance:

It is good practice to clean the filter at regular intervals to remove dust.

1. Open the lid by pushing the lid release button (B).

2. Rotate the filter cover counter-clockwise until the pointer on the cover matches the unlock symbol.

3. Remove the filter.

4. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the collected dust from the filter surface.

5. Put the filter back in its housing and rotate the cover clockwise until the pointer matches the lock symbol.

The unit is programmed to remind you when to change the filter. After a pre-defined number of working hours, the display will cyclically show “CF”, indicating the filter must be replaced. The filter is designed to last up to 9 months, based on 8 hours of usage per day at medium working load. Always use an original De’Longhi replacement filter.

To replace the filter and reset the alarm:

1. Unplug the unit.

2. Open the lid, unlock the filter cover, and remove the old filter.

3. Insert the new original De’Longhi replacement filter and lock the cover back in place.

4. To reset the “CF” alarm, in rapid succession, insert the plug and then touch and hold the ON/STANDBY (A) button on the unit for at least 10 seconds until you hear a long beep.

The remote control uses a 3V lithium flat button battery, type CR2032.

1. To activate a new remote, pull out and remove the battery cover strip.

2. To replace the batteries, remove the cover by rotating the screw counter-clockwise with a small screwdriver.

3. Replace the battery, paying attention to the correct polarity as shown in the battery compartment.

4. Replace the cover and rotate the screw clockwise to secure it.

WARNING: DO NOT DISPOSE OF BATTERIES IN FIRE. BATTERIES MAY EXPLODE OR LEAK.

This error indicates that the temperature sensors are not working properly. Please contact Customer Service for assistance.

Check that the plug is securely connected to the wall outlet. If it is, please plug the unit in.

There are a few possible reasons:

• The set temperature has been reached. You can use the “+” button to increase the set temperature if you wish for it to turn back on.

• The time set on the timer has elapsed. You may need to turn the timer function off.

• Check that the plug is still securely connected to the outlet.

This indicates that the tip-over switch has been activated. Ensure the appliance is standing upright on a flat surface. If the appliance still does not work, please contact Customer Service.

The “CF” message is a reminder that the air filter has reached its pre-defined number of usage hours and needs to be replaced. You need to replace the filter and then reset the alarm. To reset the alarm, insert the plug and hold the ON/STANDBY (A) button on the unit for at least 10 seconds until you hear a long beep.

This message indicates that the internal temperature is too high, possibly because the air intake or outlet grill is obstructed.

1. Check that the appliance is positioned correctly, respecting the minimum distances from walls or other objects as indicated in the manual.

2. Remove any obstruction.

3. Disconnect the plug from the outlet and let the appliance cool down. After a few minutes, plug the appliance in again.

4. If the appliance still doesn’t work, please contact Customer Service.

This message indicates that the fan motor is not working. Disconnect the plug from the outlet. After a few minutes, plug the appliance in again. If the problem persists, please contact Customer Service.
