How do I perform the initial setup of my DELONGHI ECAM20.11X?
To set up your DELONGHI ECAM20.11X for the first time, please follow these steps:
1. After removing all packaging, check that the product is complete and undamaged. Do not use the appliance if it is visibly damaged.
2. Install the appliance on a stable worktop, leaving a space of at least 3 cm between the surfaces of the appliance and the side and rear walls, and at least 15 cm above the coffee machine.
3. Remove the water tank (A9), fill to the MAX line with fresh water, then put it back in the appliance.
4. Place a container with a minimum capacity of 100 ml under the cappuccino maker (A18).
5. Plug the appliance into the mains socket and place the main switch (A8) on the back of the appliance in the I position.

8. Turn the steam dial back to the 0 position.
The coffee machine is now ready for normal use. Please note that the first time you use the coffee maker, you need to make 4-5 cups of coffee or cappuccinos before it starts to give satisfactory results. It is also recommended to install a water softener filter and customize the water hardness setting.
How do I turn the DELONGHI ECAM20.11X on and off?
Turning On:
1. Make sure the main switch (A8) on the back of the appliance is in the I position.
2. Press the On/Off button (B2). The coffee lights will flash as the appliance heats up and performs an automatic rinse cycle. This cycle cannot be interrupted.
3. Once the rinse cycle is complete, the lights will stop flashing and the coffee lights will come on steadily. The appliance is now ready for use.
Turning Off:
1. Press the On/Off button (B2). The appliance will perform an automatic rinse cycle and then go off.
Important: During rinsing, a little hot water flows from the coffee spouts. Avoid contact with splashes of water. To avoid damaging the appliance, do not place the main switch (A8) in the 0 position until you have turned the appliance off with the On/Off button (B2). If the appliance is not used for an extended period, place the main switch (A8) in the 0 position.
How do I change the Auto-off setting on the DELONGHI ECAM20.11X?
You can change the time before your DELONGHI ECAM20.11X switches off automatically after being idle. The options are 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours.

The Energy Saving mode reduces energy consumption. When active, the green ECO light is on. Please note that when this mode is active, a few seconds may elapse before the first coffee is delivered as the appliance must heat up.
1. Make sure the appliance is off, but the main switch (A8) on the back is in the I position.

How do I install the water softener filter in my DELONGHI ECAM20.11X?
If your DELONGHI ECAM20.11X model includes a water softener filter (C4), follow these steps to install it:
1. Take the filter out of its packet and rinse under about 0.5 litre of running water.
2. Turn the date indicator disk on the filter until the next two months of use are displayed. The filter lasts about two months with normal use.
3. Extract the water tank (A9) from the appliance and fill it with water.
4. Insert the filter into the water tank and immerse it completely, sloping it to enable air bubbles to escape.
5. Insert the filter into the filter housing and press as far as it will go.
6. Close the tank with the lid, then replace the tank in the machine.
7. Place a container with a minimum capacity of 500 ml under the cappuccino maker (A18).
8. Turn the steam dial (A19) to the I position to deliver hot water.
9. Deliver at least 500 ml of hot water, then turn the hot water/steam dial back to the 0 position.
The filter is now active. If the general alarm and water tank lights come on during installation, repeat the procedure from step 8.
To replace the filter, simply remove the old one and repeat the installation steps with a new filter.
How do I make coffee using coffee beans with the DELONGHI ECAM20.11X?
1. Select Coffee Taste: Turn the coffee taste selection dial (B6) to set the required strength. Turning it clockwise from MIN to MAX increases the quantity of coffee beans the appliance will grind, making the coffee stronger.
2. Fill Beans: Fill the container (A7) with coffee beans. Do not use caramelised or candied coffee beans.
3. Place Cups: Place one or two cups under the coffee spouts (A12). Lower the spouts as near as possible to the cup for a creamier coffee.
4. Select Coffee: Press the button corresponding to the required coffee:
• For 1 short coffee, press button B3.
• For 2 short coffees, press button B4.
• For 1 long coffee, press button B8.
• For 2 long coffees, press button B9.
5. Preparation: The machine will start grinding the beans and delivering the coffee. The light corresponding to the selected button flashes on the control panel. Once the coffee has been made, the appliance is ready to make the next drink.
Please Note: To change the quantity of coffee delivered, press and hold the desired coffee button until the light flashes. When the coffee in the cup reaches the desired level, press the button again to memorize the new amount. Delivery can be interrupted at any moment by pressing one of the coffee buttons.
How do I make coffee using pre-ground coffee with the DELONGHI ECAM20.11X?
When using pre-ground coffee, you can only make one cup of coffee at a time.
1. Make sure the appliance is on.
2. Turn the coffee taste selection dial (B6) anticlockwise as far as it will go to the pre-ground coffee position (spoon icon).
3. Make sure the funnel is not blocked, then add one level measure (C2) of pre-ground coffee into the pre-ground coffee funnel (A6). Never use more than one level measure.
4. Place a cup under the coffee spouts (A12).
5. Press the corresponding 1 cup coffee button (either B3 for short coffee or B8 for long coffee).
6. Preparation begins.
Important: Never add pre-ground coffee when the machine is off, as it could spread through the inside of the machine and damage it. Never place coffee beans in the pre-ground coffee funnel.
How do I make a cappuccino with the DELONGHI ECAM20.11X?
1. First, prepare the espresso coffee in a large cup as described in the coffee-making instructions.
2. Fill a container with about 100 ml of milk for each cappuccino. For a richer, denser froth, use skimmed or partially skimmed milk at refrigerator temperature (about 5°C).
3. Press the steam button (B7). The steam light will flash.
4. Immerse the cappuccino maker (A18) into the milk container.
5. After a few seconds, when the steam light flashes, turn the steam dial (A19) to the I position. Steam will be delivered from the cappuccino maker.
6. For a creamier froth, rotate the container with slow, upward movements. Do not deliver steam for more than 3 minutes at a time.
7. When you have obtained the required froth, stop the steam delivery by turning the steam dial back to the 0 position.
8. Add the milk froth to the coffee you prepared earlier. The cappuccino is ready. Sweeten to taste and, if desired, sprinkle the froth with a little cocoa powder.
Danger of burns: Steam is given off during preparation. Take care to avoid scalds. Stop steam delivery before removing the container with the frothed milk to avoid burns from splashes of boiling milk.
How do I adjust the settings on my DELONGHI ECAM20.11X?
You can adjust the coffee mill, coffee temperature, and coffee quantity on your DELONGHI ECAM20.11X.
Adjusting the Coffee Mill:
The grinding adjustment dial (A2) must only be turned when the coffee mill is in operation.
• If coffee is delivered too slowly or a drop at a time, turn the dial one click clockwise towards ‘7’.
• For a fuller-bodied, creamier coffee, turn the dial one click anticlockwise towards ‘1’. Do not turn more than one click at a time.

3. When the coffee in the cup reaches the desired level, press the same button again to memorize the new amount. The machine is now reprogrammed.
How do I clean my DELONGHI ECAM20.11X coffee machine?
Regular cleaning is essential for your DELONGHI ECAM20.11X. Do not use solvents, abrasive detergents, or alcohol. Do not wash any components in a dishwasher.
Cappuccino Maker (after each use):
1. Place a container under the cappuccino maker and turn the steam dial to the I position for a few seconds to deliver a little water.
2. Turn the dial to 0 and wait for it to cool down.

3. Replace the drip tray and grounds container.
Drip Tray (when red indicator is visible):
1. Remove the drip tray (A17) and the grounds container (A13).
2. Empty the drip tray and grounds container and wash them.
3. Check and empty the condensate tray (A14) if necessary.
4. Reassemble and replace.
Inside of the Machine (weekly):
1. Turn the machine off and unplug it from the mains.
2. Remove the drip tray and check that the inside is not dirty. If necessary, remove coffee deposits with a sponge and a vacuum cleaner.
Water Tank (monthly):
1. Clean the water tank (A9) with a damp cloth and a little mild washing-up liquid. Rinse thoroughly.
2. If present, remove the water softener filter and rinse it with running water before replacing.
Coffee Spouts (regularly):
1. Clean the spouts (A12) with a sponge or cloth. Check that the holes are not blocked. If necessary, remove deposits with a toothpick.
Infuser (monthly):
1. Turn the machine off correctly and unplug it. Do not remove the infuser when the machine is on.
2. Open the infuser door (A10) on the right side.
3. Press the two colored release buttons inwards and pull the infuser (A11) outwards.
4. Soak the infuser in water for about 5 minutes, then rinse under the tap. Do not use washing-up liquid.
5. After cleaning, replace the infuser by sliding it onto the internal support and pushing the PUSH symbol until it clicks into place. Close the infuser door.
How do I descale my DELONGHI ECAM20.11X coffee machine?
Descale the appliance when the descaling light (B5) flashes. Use De’Longhi descaler only. Failure to descale the appliance as described voids the guarantee.
1. Turn the appliance on.
2. Empty the drip tray and grounds container and put them back in the machine.
3. Empty the water tank completely. If present, remove the water softener filter.
4. Pour the descaler (C3) into the tank up to level A (100 ml), then add a litre of water up to level B. Put the water tank back in the appliance.
5. Place a container with a minimum capacity of 1.8 litres under the cappuccino maker and coffee spouts.
6. Wait for the coffee lights to come on steadily.
7. Press and hold the descaling button (B5) for at least 5 seconds to begin. The light in the button comes on steadily.
8. The steam light flashes. Turn the hot water/steam dial (A19) to the I position. The descaling program starts.
9. The machine will automatically perform a series of rinses and pauses for about 25 minutes. When it stops, the water tank and steam lights will flash. Turn the hot water/steam dial to the 0 position.
10. The machine is now ready for rinsing. Empty the container used to collect the descaler solution. Remove the water tank, empty it, rinse under running water, and fill with fresh water to the MAX level. Put it back in the appliance. The water tank light will flash.
11. Place the empty container under the cappuccino maker and coffee spouts.
12. Turn the hot water/steam dial to the I position to begin rinsing.
13. When the water tank is empty, the water tank and steam lights flash. Turn the hot water/steam dial to the 0 position.
14. Empty the container. Remove and refill the water tank to the MAX level (reinstall the water filter if you use one). The steam light will flash.
15. Place the empty container under the cappuccino maker.
16. Turn the hot water/steam dial to the I position. Rinsing continues from the cappuccino maker only.
17. When rinsing finishes, the steam light flashes. Turn the hot water/steam dial to the 0 position.
18. Top up the water tank with fresh water to the MAX level and put it back in the machine. Descaling is complete.
How do I measure and set the water hardness on the DELONGHI ECAM20.11X?
Programming the machine according to your local water hardness means it will need to be descaled less often. The machine is set by default for a hardness value of 4.
Measuring Water Hardness:
1. Remove the “TOTAL HARDNESS TEST” indicator paper (C1) from its pack.
2. Immerse the paper completely in a glass of water for one second.
3. Remove the paper from the water and shake it lightly. After about a minute, 1, 2, 3, or 4 red squares will form, corresponding to the hardness level.
Setting Water Hardness:
1. Make sure the appliance is off (but the main switch is in the I position).
