If you suspect that the CASIO MJ-12DA is operating abnormally due to static electrical charge or some other problem, press the [ON/AC] key to restore normal operation.

• The step indicator on the CASIO MJ-12DA shows the number of the step currently shown on the display.

• A finalize key operation and the result it produces is also a step. See “Finalizing a Calculation” for more details.

• Steps continue to be accumulated in Calculation Memory until you press the [ON/AC] key or until 150 steps are accumulated, even if a finalize key is pressed.

• Review can be used to view only the first 150 steps in Calculation Memory, even if there are more steps.

• Review cannot be performed while an error indicator is displayed.

• Pressing the [ON/AC] key clears all steps from Calculation Memory and restarts the step count from 1.

Finalizing a calculation on the CASIO MJ-12DA means performing a key operation that produces a calculation result. Pressing any of the following keys finalizes a calculation: [=], [%], [M+], or [M-].

The CASIO MJ-12DA features a Two-Way Power System, which provides power even in complete darkness. It uses a solar cell and one LR44 button type battery. It is recommended to always have the battery replaced at your nearest dealer.

The CASIO MJ-12DA is not equipped with an [OFF] switch. Instead, it switches power off automatically about six minutes after the last key operation is performed. To restore power, press the [ON/AC] key.

• When you press [ON/AC], the independent memory contents are not cleared.

• If the Auto Power Off function turns off power while a Review operation is in progress, press [ON/AC] to restore power. Doing so returns to the point you were at before power turned off.

Below are examples of basic calculations. A step indicator and a grand total memory indicator (GT) may appear on the display, but are not shown in all examples for simplicity.

Note: Pressing [GT] twice clears the grand total memory.

Setting a Tax Rate

Example: Tax rate = 10%

Press and hold [%] until SET appears. Then input the tax rate: 10 [%]. This sets the rate at 10%.

You can check the currently set rate by pressing and holding [%] and then pressing [TAX+].

Price-plus-tax Calculation

Example: Calculate price-plus-tax for $150 with a 10% tax rate.

Input: 150 [TAX+]. The result will be 165. The tax amount (15) will also be shown.

Price-less-tax Calculation

Example: Calculate price-less-tax for $165 with a 10% tax rate.

Input: 165 [TAX-]. The result will be 150. The tax amount (15) will also be shown.

Before you can use review on the CASIO MJ-12DA, you must first finalize the current calculation. After finalizing a calculation, you can review it.

Key operations are stored in Calculation Memory as you input them. The memory can hold up to 150 steps. The step indicator on the display shows the step number.

To review the calculation, use the [▲] and [▼] keys to scroll through the steps.

Example: Review the calculation (20 + 5) × 6 – 2 = 5 × 10

Pressing [▼] reviews starting from the first step, while [▲] reviews from the last step. Each press of [▲] or [▼] scrolls by one step. Holding down either key scrolls at high speed.

On the CASIO MJ-12DA, you can make changes to a calculation while it is still in progress, or after it is finalized and stored in memory. When you revise a calculation, all steps after the point you edit are deleted.

To edit a calculation:

1. Use the [▲] or [▼] keys to display the step you want to edit.

2. Press the [CORRECT] key. The CORRECT indicator will appear on the display while Calculation Memory editing is enabled. You can only edit one step at a time.

3. Input the new value or function key. To cancel editing without making a change, press the [CORRECT] key again.

The result is always produced by the calculation. You cannot change a key inputting a result, but you can change the calculation that produces the result.

Important points for revising:

• Once you start the editing operation and then once again to end the operation, the rounding and decimal place settings of the calculator are automatically applied to the result.

• When you edit the contents of a calculation, the rounding and decimal place settings currently specified by the calculator are used. The settings are not those that were in effect for the original calculation.

• If an error occurs while you are inputting a number or calculation, pressing [CORRECT] lets you correct the input without having to re-input from the beginning.

• Calculation speed depends on the number of steps accumulated in Calculation Memory.

The CASIO MJ-12DA calculator supports the Indian system of digit grouping. You can switch between the Indian and standard display formats.

To change the display format:

1. Press and hold down [=] until SET appears on the display. This sets the calculator to the first format (Standard).

2. Press [=] again to select the second format (Indian). When you do this, the display will show a test value in the new format.

3. Press [=] again to finalize the setting and exit setup. The display will clear.

You can toggle between the two numeric display formats by pressing [▼] and [▲] while the test value is displayed in step 2.
