To initialize the CASIO FX-350MS, which returns the calculation mode to COMP and all other settings to their initial defaults, perform the following procedure:

Press ON, then SHIFT, then MODE (CLR), then 2 (Mode), then =.

To initialize the calculator and clear all data currently in memory, perform this procedure:

Press ON, then SHIFT, then MODE (CLR), then 3 (All), then =.

Please follow these safety precautions for the battery:

• Keep batteries out of the reach of small children.

• Use only the type of battery specified for this calculator in the manual.

• Dim figures on the display indicate that battery power is low. Replace the battery as soon as possible. Continued use with a low battery can result in improper operation.

• Even if the calculator is operating normally, replace the battery at least once every three years for the fx-85MS/300MS/350MS models. A dead battery can leak, causing damage and malfunction. Never leave a dead battery in the calculator.

• The battery that comes with the calculator discharges slightly during shipment and storage, so it may require replacement sooner than the normal expected battery life.

• Do not use an oxyride battery or any other type of nickel-based primary battery with this product. Incompatibility can result in shorter battery life and product malfunction.

• Avoid use and storage in areas subjected to temperature extremes, and large amounts of humidity and dust.

• Do not subject the calculator to excessive impact, pressure, or bending.

• Never try to take the calculator apart.

• Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the calculator.

Before using the calculator, slide its hard case downwards to remove it. You can then affix the hard case to the back of the calculator.

Press the ON key to turn on the calculator.

Press SHIFT and then AC (OFF) to turn off the calculator.

The calculator also has an Auto Power Off feature, which will turn it off automatically if you do not perform any operation for about 10 minutes.

1. Press the MODE key a number of times until you see the setup screen with “Disp” and “CONT”.

2. Press 2.

3. Use the left (◄) and right (►) arrow keys to adjust the contrast.

4. After the setting is the way you want, press AC.

Important: If adjusting the display contrast does not improve readability, it probably means that the battery power is low and you should replace the battery.

The display shows the expressions you input, the calculation results, and various indicators.

• **Input expression:** The formula or values you enter.

• **Calculation result:** The answer to your calculation.

• **Indicators:** Symbols that appear in the upper part of the display to show the current mode (COMP, SD, REG) and angle unit setting (Deg, Rad, Gra).

You can select a calculation mode based on the operation you want to perform. The initial default mode is COMP.

Mode indicators (COMP, SD, REG) appear in the upper part of the display. Always check the current mode before beginning a calculation.

Pressing the MODE key multiple times displays additional setup screens. Underlined settings are the initial defaults.

Angle Unit (Deg Rad Gra)

This setting specifies degrees, radians, or grads as the angle unit for value input and calculation result display. Press 1 for Degrees (Deg), 2 for Radians (Rad), or 3 for Grads (Gra).

Number of Display Digits (Fix Sci Norm)

This specifies the number of digits for the display of a calculation result.

• Fix: The value you specify (from 0 to 9) controls the number of decimal places. Results are rounded off to the specified digit.

• Sci: The value you specify (from 1 to 10) controls the number of significant digits. Results are rounded off to the specified digit.

• Norm: Selecting one of two available settings (Norm 1, Norm 2) determines the range in which results will be displayed in non-exponential format. Outside this range, results are displayed using exponential format.
Norm 1: 10^-2 > |x|, |x| ≥ 10¹⁰
Norm 2: 10^-9 > |x|, |x| ≥ 10¹⁰

Fraction Display Format (ab/c d/c)

This specifies either mixed fraction (ab/c) or improper fraction (d/c) for displaying fractions in calculation results.

Decimal Point Format (Dot Comma)

This specifies whether to display a dot or a comma for the calculation result decimal point. A dot is always displayed during input.

The CASIO FX-350MS allows you to input an expression and see it on the display before executing the calculation. The memory area for calculation input can hold 79 “steps”. One step is taken up each time you press a number key or an arithmetic operator key (+, -, x, ÷). A SHIFT or ALPHA key operation does not take up a step.

Correcting and Clearing an Expression:

• To delete a single character or function: Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to the item and press DEL.

• To insert a character or function: Move the cursor to the location, press SHIFT then DEL (INS), and then input the character/function.

• To clear all of the calculation you are inputting: Press AC.

Calculation Priority Sequence:

The calculator performs operations according to a specific priority sequence. When the priority of two expressions is the same, the calculation is performed from left to right.

1st: Function with parentheses: Pol(x, y), Rec(r, θ)

2nd: Type A functions (value is entered, then function key is pressed): x³, x², x⁻¹, x!, °, ’, ”, percent, engineering symbols

3rd: Powers and roots: ^(xʸ), ˣ√

4th: Fractions

5th: Implied multiplication of π, e, memory name, or variable name: 2π, 3e, 5A, etc.

6th: Type B functions (function key is pressed, then value is entered): √, ³√, log, ln, eˣ, 10ˣ, sin, cos, tan, sin⁻¹, cos⁻¹, tan⁻¹, sinh, cosh, tanh, sinh⁻¹, cosh⁻¹, tanh⁻¹, (-)

7th: Implied multiplication of Type B functions: 2√3, Alog2, etc.

8th: Permutation (nPr), combination (nCr)

9th: Multiplication, division (x, ÷)

10th: Addition, subtraction (+, -)

Multi-Statements:

You can use the colon character (:) to connect two or more expressions and execute them in sequence from left to right when you press =. To input a colon, press ALPHA then the ∫dx key (labeled with a colon).

Using Engineering Notation:

A simple key operation transforms a displayed value to engineering notation. Press the ENG key to cycle through engineering formats (e.g., 1234 becomes 1.234×10³).

Calculation History:

In COMP Mode, the calculator remembers up to approximately 150 bytes of data for the newest calculation. You can scroll through calculation history contents using the up (▲) and down (▼) arrow keys. Calculation history data is cleared when you press ON, change the calculation mode, or initialize the settings.

Replay:

While a calculation result is on the display, you can press the left (◄) or right (►) arrow keys to edit the expression you used for the previous calculation.

Fraction Calculations

Use the a b/c key to input fractions. For example, to calculate 2/3 + 1/2, input: 2 a b/c 3 + 1 a b/c 2 =. The result will be 1┘1┘6.

• To switch a result between improper fraction and mixed fraction format, press SHIFT then a b/c (d/c).

• To switch a result between fraction and decimal format, press the a b/c key.

Percent Calculations

To find a percentage of a number, input the number, x, the percentage, SHIFT, then (%). For example, 150 x 20% is 30.

Degree, Minute, Second (Sexagesimal) Calculations

You can perform calculations using sexagesimal (degrees, minutes, seconds) values. Use the °, ’ , ’’ key to input values. For example, to calculate 2°20’30” + 39’30”, input: 2 °, ’ , ’’ 20 °, ’ , ’’ 30 °, ’ , ’’ + 0 °, ’ , ’’ 39 °, ’ , ’’ 30 °, ’ , ’’ =. The result is 3°0’0”.

• You can convert between sexagesimal and decimal values using the °, ’ , ’’ key.

Answer Memory (Ans)

The last calculation result obtained is stored in the Ans memory. The content is updated whenever a new calculation result is displayed. To use the last answer in a new calculation, press the Ans key.

Variables (A, B, C, D, E, F, X, Y)

Your calculator has eight preset variables. To assign a value to a variable, input the value, press SHIFT, then RCL (STO), and then the key for the desired variable (e.g., A). To recall a variable’s value, press RCL and then the variable’s key.

Independent Memory (M)

You can add or subtract results from the independent memory. The “M” indicator appears on the display when a value is stored.

• To clear the contents of M: Press 0, SHIFT, RCL (STO), M+ (M).

• To add a result to M: Press M+.

• To subtract a result from M: Press SHIFT, M+ (M-).

• To recall the contents of M: Press RCL, M+ (M).

Clearing the Contents of All Memories

Independent memory and variable contents are retained even if you press AC or turn off the calculator. To clear all memories, perform this key operation: Press ON, SHIFT, MODE (CLR), 1 (Mcl), then =.

• π: Displayed as 3.141592654, but a more precise value is used for internal calculations.

• e: Displayed as 2.718281828, but a more precise value is used internally.

• sin, cos, tan, sin⁻¹, cos⁻¹, tan⁻¹: Trigonometric functions. Specify the angle unit (Deg, Rad, Gra) before performing calculations.

• sinh, cosh, tanh, sinh⁻¹, cosh⁻¹, tanh⁻¹: Hyperbolic functions. The angle unit setting does not affect these calculations.

• °, ’, ”: Specify angle units (degrees, radians, grads).

• 10ˣ, eˣ: Exponential functions.

• log, ln: Logarithmic function (log to base 10) and natural logarithm (log to base e).

• x², x³, ^(xʸ), √, ³√, ˣ√, x⁻¹: Powers, power roots, and reciprocals.

• Pol, Rec: Pol converts rectangular coordinates to polar coordinates (r, θ), while Rec converts polar coordinates to rectangular coordinates (x, y).

• x!: Factorial function.

• Ran#: Generates a 3-digit pseudo-random number less than 1.

• nPr, nCr: Permutation and combination functions.

• Rnd: Rounds the argument to a decimal value in accordance with the current display digits setting (Norm, Fix, or Sci).

First, enter the SD mode (MODE 2) or REG mode (MODE 3). Before starting, clear the statistical memory by pressing SHIFT, MODE (CLR), 1 (Scl), =.

Data Input:

• Input data using the key sequence: {data} DT.

• To input the same data multiple times, use the sequence: {data} SHIFT ; {number of data items} DT.

• In REG mode, for paired data, use the sequence: {X-data} , {Y-data} DT.

Data Input Precautions:

• While inputting data or after data input is complete, you can use the up (▲) and down (▼) keys to scroll through data you have input. If you see a frequency value (e.g., X_1=… FREQ=…) for an item, it means multiple entries of the same data were input.

• To delete a data value you are displaying, press SHIFT CL (CL).

• To change a data value displayed, input the new value and press =.

• The message “Data Full” appears if there is no memory left for new data. If this happens, you will be unable to input any more data.

• After inputting statistical data, you must press the AC key before beginning to perform calculations.

After entering your data in SD or REG mode and pressing AC, you can use the SHIFT key with number keys 1 and 2 to recall various statistical values.
