1. Plug the telephone line cord into a telephone jack.

2. Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch.

Make sure the electrical outlets are not controlled by wall switches. The telephone power adapter should be connected to a vertical or floor mount outlet. The prongs are not designed to hold the power adapter in place if it is plugged into a ceiling, under-the-table or cabinet outlet.

If you subscribe to DSL high-speed Internet service through your telephone line, you must install a DSL filter between the telephone line cord and the telephone wall jack. The filter will prevent noise and caller ID problems caused by DSL interference.

1. If the battery compartment cover is on the handset, press on the indentation and slide the cover to remove it.

2. Plug the battery connector securely into the socket inside the handset battery compartment, matching the color-coded label.

3. Place the battery with the label THIS SIDE UP facing up and the wires inside the battery compartment.

4. Align the cover flat against the battery compartment, then slide it upwards until it clicks into place.

5. Charge the handset by placing it in the telephone base or charger. The CHARGE light is on when charging. For best performance, keep the handset in the telephone base or charger when not in use. The battery is fully charged after 16 hours of continuous charging.

Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch.

After you install your telephone or power returns following a power outage, the handset will prompt you to set the date and time.

Check for dial tone

Press /HOME/FLASH. If you hear a dial tone, the installation is successful.

If you do not hear a dial tone, make sure the telephone line cord is securely plugged in. If you subscribe to digital subscriber line (DSL) high-speed Internet service through your telephone line, you must install a DSL filter between the telephone line cord and the telephone wall jack. The filter prevents noise and caller ID problems caused by DSL interference.

Telephone operating range

This cordless telephone operates with the maximum power allowed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Even so, this handset and telephone base can communicate over only a certain distance – which can vary with the locations of the telephone base and handset, the weather, and the layout of your home or office.

When the handset is out of range, the handset displays Out of range OR No pwr at base.

If there is a call while the handset is out of range, it may not ring, or if it does ring, the call may not connect well when you press /HOME/FLASH. Move closer to the telephone base, then press /HOME/FLASH to answer the call.

If the handset moves out of range during a telephone conversation, there may be interference. To improve reception, move closer to the telephone base.

1. Press MENU when the phone is not in use (idle mode) to enter the main menu.

2. Press ▼ or ▲ to scroll through menu items.

3. Press SELECT to select or save the highlighted item.

To go back to the previous menu, press CANCEL.

To return to idle mode, press and hold CANCEL.

The screen language is preset to English. You can select English, French or Spanish to be used in all screen displays.

1. Press MENU when the handset is not in use.

2. Scroll to >Settings, then press SELECT twice.

3. Scroll to choose English, Francais, or Espanol.

4. Press SELECT to save your setting.

Make sure you set the date and time including the year correctly; otherwise the answering system does not announce the correct day of the week for your recorded messages time stamp.

1. Use the dialing keys (0-9) to enter the month (MM), date (DD) and year (YY). Then press SELECT.

2. Use the dialing keys (0-9) to enter the hour (HH) and minute (MM). Then press ▼ or ▲ to choose AM or PM.

3. Press SELECT to save.

If you subscribe to caller ID service, the day, month and time are set automatically with each incoming call. The year must be set so that the day of the week can be calculated from the caller ID information.

When the phone is ringing, you can temporarily silence the ringer of the handset without disconnecting the call. The next call rings normally at the preset volume.

To silence the handset ringer:

Press MUTE/DELETE or OFF/CANCEL. The handset screen shows Ringer Muted.

To silence the telephone base ringer:

Press -/VOLUME on the telephone base.

Press /HOME/FLASH or /SPEAKER, then dial the telephone number.

Press /HOME/FLASH, /SPEAKER, or any of the dialing keys.

Press OFF/CANCEL or put the handset in the telephone base or charger.

1. Enter the telephone number.

2. Press /HOME/FLASH or /SPEAKER to dial.

During a call, press ▲/VOL+ or ▼/VOL- to adjust the listening volume.

The mute function allows you to hear the other party but the other party cannot hear you.

1. During a call, press MUTE. The handset screen shows Muted.

2. Press MUTE again to resume the conversation. The handset screen briefly shows Microphone on.

You can use a handset to join a call already in progress.

When a handset is already on a call, press /HOME/FLASH or /SPEAKER on another handset.

To exit the call, press OFF/CANCEL on the handset or put it in the telephone base or charger. The call continues on the other handset until it is hung up.

If you subscribe to call waiting service from your telephone service provider, you hear an alert tone if there is an incoming call while you are already on a call.

• Press FLASH to put the current call on hold and take the new call.

• Press FLASH at any time to switch back and forth between calls.

Use this feature to find all misplaced system handsets.

To start paging:

Press /FIND HANDSET on the telephone base. All idle system handsets ring and display ** Paging **.

To end paging:

• Press /HOME/FLASH, /SPEAKER, or any dialing key on the handset.

OR

• Press /FIND HANDSET again on the telephone base.

OR

• Place the handset in the charger.

Do not press and hold /FIND HANDSET for more than four seconds. This may lead to handset deregistration.

Each handset stores the last five telephone numbers dialed (up to 30 digits). When there are already five entries, the oldest entry is deleted to make room for the new entry.

Review a redial entry:

1. Press REDIAL when the handset is not in use.

2. Press ▼, ▲, or REDIAL repeatedly to browse the entries.

Dial a redial entry:

While displaying the desired entry, press /HOME/FLASH or /SPEAKER to dial.

Delete a redial entry:

While the desired redial entry displays, press DELETE.

The directory can store up to 30 entries, which are shared by all handsets. Each entry may consist of a telephone number up to 30 digits, and a name up to 15 characters.

1. Enter the number when the phone is not in use.

2. Press SELECT twice. The screen shows Enter name.

3. Use the dialing keys to enter a name.

• Press a key repeatedly until the desired character appears.

• Press DELETE to erase a character.

• Press and hold DELETE to erase all characters.

• Press ▼ or ▲ to move the cursor to the left or right.

4. Press SELECT to store the new directory entry.

1. Press ▲ when the handset is not in use.

2. Press ▼ or ▲ to browse through the directory entries.

1. Press ▲ when the handset is not in use.

2. Use the dialing keys to enter the first letter of the desired name. For example, if you have names Jenny, Jessie, Kristen and Laura in your directory, press 5 (JKL) once to see Jenny. Press 5 (JKL) twice to see Kristen.

When your desired directory entry is displayed, press /HOME/FLASH or /SPEAKER to dial.

1. When the desired entry displays, press SELECT.

2. To edit the number, then press SELECT.

3. Use the dialing keys to edit the name, then press SELECT.

When the desired entry appears, press DELETE.

If you subscribe to caller ID service, information about each caller appears after the first or second ring. If you answer a call before the caller information appears on the screen, it will not be saved in the caller ID log.

The caller ID log stores up to 30 entries. Each entry has up to 24 digits for the phone number and 15 characters for the name.

If the telephone number has more than 15 digits, only the last 15 digits appear. If the name has more than 15 characters, only the first 15 characters are shown and saved in the caller ID log.

1. Press CID when the handset is not in use.

2. Scroll to browse through the caller ID log.

When you have calls that have not been reviewed, the handset screen shows XX Missed calls.

When you review a new (missed) caller ID log entry, the NEW icon is no longer shown.

If you do not want to review the missed calls one by one, press and hold OFF/CANCEL on the idle handset to erase the indicator.

1. When a caller ID entry is displayed, press # repeatedly to show different dialing options for local and long distance numbers.

2. Press 1 repeatedly if you need to add or remove 1 in front of the telephone number.

3. When the number is in the correct format for dialing, press /HOME/FLASH or /SPEAKER to call the number.

1. When a caller ID log entry is displayed, press SELECT.

2. If the dialing keys are needed to modify the number, if not, skip to step 3.

3. Press SELECT again. The screen displays Enter name with the name from the caller ID log. If needed, edit the name.

4. Press SELECT to save the entry.

To delete one entry: When the desired caller ID entry is displayed, press DELETE.

To delete all entries: Press MENU. Scroll to >Delete all calls and press SELECT. When the handset shows Delete all calls?, press SELECT again.

Key tone

You can turn the key tone on or off.

1. Press MENU when the handset is not in use.

2. Scroll to >Settings and press SELECT. Then scroll to >Key tone and press SELECT.

3. Scroll to choose On or Off, then press SELECT to save.

Ringer tone

You can choose from different ringer tones for incoming calls.

1. Press MENU when the handset is not in use.

2. Scroll to >Ringers and press SELECT. Then scroll to >Ringer tone and press SELECT.

3. Scroll to sample each ringer tone, then press SELECT to save.

Handset ringer volume

You can set the ringer volume level, or turn the ringer off.

1. Press MENU when the handset is not in use.

2. Scroll to >Ringers and press SELECT. Then scroll to >Ringer volume and press SELECT.

3. Press ▲/VOL+ or ▼/VOL- to sample each volume level.

4. Press SELECT to save.

Note: If the ringer volume is set to off, the handset screen shows the ringer off icon.

Telephone base ringer volume

When the telephone is idle, you can adjust the ringer volume on the telephone base.

Press +/VOLUME or -/VOLUME on the telephone base to set the ringer volume.

Your telephone has separate indicators for two different types of voice messages: those left on its built-in answering system and those left at your telephone service provider’s voicemail. Your telephone’s built-in answering system messages and voicemail messages are separate. Each alerts you to new messages differently.

The following table summarizes the differences:

The answering system must be on to answer and record messages.

With the telephone base:

Press /ANS ON/OFF to turn the built-in answering system on or off. When the answering system is on, it announces, “Calls will be answered.” When the answering system is off, it announces, “Calls will not be answered.”

With the handset:

1. Press MENU when the phone is not in use.

2. Scroll to >Answering sys and press SELECT.

3. Scroll to >Answer ON/OFF and then press SELECT.

4. Press ▲ or ▼ to choose On or Off and then press SELECT.

The announcement is the greeting callers hear when calls are answered by the answering system. The telephone has a default announcement, “Hello, please leave a message after the tone.” You can use this announcement, or record your own.

Play the current announcement:

1. Press MENU when the phone is not in use.

2. Scroll to >Answering sys and press SELECT.

3. Press SELECT to select >Announcement. The system will play the current announcement.

Record a new announcement:

1. Press MENU when the phone is not in use.

2. Scroll to >Answering sys and press SELECT.

3. Press SELECT again to select >Announcement. The phone plays the current announcement. Press SELECT again. It will announce “Record after the tone. Press 5 when you are done.”

4. After the tone, speak towards the handset.

5. Press 5 when you are done.

Delete your recorded announcement:

To use the default announcement, you must first delete your recorded announcement.

1. Press MENU when the phone is not in use.

2. Scroll to >Answering sys and press SELECT.

3. Press SELECT to select >Announcement. The phone plays the recorded announcement.

4. Press DELETE while it is playing. The system confirms with the default announcement.

You can set the answering system to answer an incoming call after two, three, four, five, or six rings. You can also select toll saver. If you select toll saver, the answering system answers a call after two rings when you have new messages, or after four rings when there are no new messages.

1. Press MENU when the phone is not in use.

2. Scroll to >Answering sys and press SELECT.

3. Scroll to >Ans sys setup and press SELECT.

4. Scroll to ># of rings and then press SELECT.

5. Press ▲ or ▼ to choose 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or Toll saver.

6. Press SELECT to save.

To access your answering system remotely from any touch-tone phone, you need to enter a two-digit number (00-99). By default, the remote access code is 19.

1. Press MENU when the phone is not in use.

2. Scroll to >Answering sys and press SELECT.

3. Scroll to >Ans sys setup and press SELECT.

4. Scroll to >Remote code and press SELECT.

5. Use the dialing keys to enter a two-digit number.

6. Press SELECT to save.

When the message alert tone is set to On, and there is at least one new message, the telephone base beeps every 10 seconds.

1. Press MENU when the phone is not in use.

2. Scroll to >Answering sys and press SELECT.

3. Scroll to >Ans sys setup and press SELECT.

4. Press SELECT to select >Msg alert tone.

5. Press ▲ or ▼ to choose On or Off.

6. Press SELECT to save.

• Press ►/PLAY/STOP when the phone is not in use. If you have new messages, the new messages play. If there are no new messages, all messages play.

Options during playback on the telephone base:

• Press +/VOLUME or -/VOLUME to adjust the listening volume.

• Press /SKIP to skip to the next message.

• Press /REPEAT to repeat the message currently playing. Press /REPEAT twice to listen to the previous message.

• Press X/DELETE to delete the current message. The system advances to the next message.

• Press ►/PLAY/STOP to stop the playback.

1. Press MENU when the phone is not in use.

2. Press SELECT twice to listen to the new messages. If there are no new messages, all messages are played.

Options during playback on a handset:

• Press ▲/VOL+ or ▼/VOL- to adjust the listening volume.

• Press 6 to skip to the next message.

• Press 4 to repeat the message currently playing. Press 4 twice to listen to the previous message.

• Press 3 to delete the current message.

• Press 5 to stop the playback.

• Press /SPEAKER to switch between speakerphone and handset earpiece.

To delete all messages with the telephone base:

You can only delete old messages. You cannot delete new messages until you have reviewed them. You cannot retrieve deleted messages.

1. Press X/DELETE when the phone is not in use.

2. Press X/DELETE again to confirm.

To delete all messages with a handset:

1. Press MENU when the phone is not in use.

2. Scroll to >Answering sys and then press SELECT.

3. Scroll to >Delete all old and then press SELECT twice.

A two-digit security code is required to access the answering system remotely from any touch-tone telephone. The preset code is 19.

1. Dial your telephone number.

2. When the system plays your announcement, enter the two-digit security code.

3. You can also enter the remote commands. Use the keys on a touch-tone telephone to control your answering system.

4. Hang up or press 8 to end the call.

If you subscribe to a voicemail service offered by your telephone service provider, New voicemail and an icon appear on the handset screen when you have new voicemail messages.

To remove the indicators, you can turn them off temporarily or permanently.

Turn off the new voicemail indicators:

After you have listened to all new voicemail messages, the indicators on the screen turn off automatically. If the indicators remain on, you can turn them off.

1. Press MENU when the handset is not in use.

2. Scroll to >Settings and press SELECT.

3. Scroll to >Voicemail and press SELECT.

4. Scroll to >Clear Voicemail and press SELECT to confirm.

You can add new handsets (CS6124, purchased separately) to your telephone base. Your telephone base supports a maximum of five handsets.

The handset provided is already registered as HANDSET 1.

1. Put the unregistered handset in the telephone base.

2. Press and hold /FIND HANDSET at the telephone base for about four seconds until the IN USE light turns on.

3. Then the handset shows Registering… Please wait, and the registration process takes about 60 seconds to complete.

Taking care of your telephone

Your cordless telephone contains sophisticated electronic parts, so it must be treated with care.

Avoid rough treatment

Place the handset down gently. Save the original packing materials to protect your telephone if you ever need to ship it.

Avoid water

Your telephone can be damaged if it gets wet. Do not use the handset in the rain, or handle it with wet hands. Do not install the telephone base near a sink, bathtub or shower.

Electrical storms

Electrical storms can sometimes cause power surges harmful to electronic equipment. For your own safety, use caution when using electrical appliances during storms.

Cleaning your telephone

Your telephone has a durable plastic casing that should retain its luster for many years. Clean it only with a soft cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild soap. Do not use excess water or cleaning solvents of any kind.

• Make sure the power cord is securely plugged in.

• Make sure the battery connector is securely plugged into the handset.

• Make sure the telephone line cord is securely and firmly plugged into the telephone base and the telephone wall jack.

• Charge the battery in the handset for at least 16 hours. For optimum daily performance, return the handset to the telephone base or charger when not in use.

• If the battery is depleted, it may take approximately 30 minutes to charge the handset before it shows Low battery.

• Reset the telephone base. Unplug the electrical power. Wait for approximately 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow up to one minute for the cordless handset and telephone base to reset.

• You may need to purchase a new battery.

• First try all of the suggestions for “My telephone does not work at all.”

• If the previous suggestions do not work, disconnect the telephone line cord from your telephone and connect the telephone line cord to another telephone.

• If there is no dial tone on that other telephone either, your telephone line cord may be defective. Install a new telephone line cord.

• If changing the telephone line cord does not help, the wall jack (or the wiring to this wall jack) may be defective. Contact your telephone service provider.

• First try all the suggestions for “My telephone does not work at all.” and “The display shows ‘No line'”.

• Make sure you have a dial tone before dialing.

• If you are using a DSL service, install a DSL filter to the telephone line between the telephone base and the telephone wall jack.

• Eliminate any background noise. Noise from a television, radio or other appliance may cause the phone to not dial out properly.

• If you are trying to dial from the directory or caller ID log and it’s not working, press /HOME/FLASH to get a dial tone first, then try again.

• If other phones in your home are having the same problem, contact your telephone service provider.

• Place the handset in the charger for charging.

• You may need to purchase a new battery.

• Clean the handset and telephone base charging contacts each month with a pencil eraser or cloth.

• If the handset is in the charger but the charge light is not on, refer to “The charge light is off”.

• Charge the battery in the handset for at least 16 hours. For optimum daily performance, return the handset to the telephone base or charger when not in use.

• If the battery is depleted, it may take approximately 30 minutes to charge the handset before it shows Low battery.

• You may need to purchase a new battery.

• Make sure the power cord is plugged in correctly and securely.

• Make sure the battery is installed correctly in the handset.

• Unplug the electrical power to the base. Wait for 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow up to one minute for the handset and base to reset.

• Clean the handset and base charging contacts each month with a pencil eraser or cloth.

• Caller ID is a subscription service. You must subscribe to this service from your telephone service provider for this feature to work on your telephone.

• The caller may not be calling from an area that supports caller ID.

• Both your and your caller’s telephone service providers must use caller ID service equipment.

• If you subscribe to high-speed Internet service (DSL) through your telephone line, you must install a DSL filter between the telephone line cord and the telephone wall jack.

• Make sure you subscribe to caller ID with call waiting features from your telephone service provider. Caller ID features work only if both you and the caller are in areas offering caller ID service, and if both telephone service providers use compatible equipment.

• If you subscribe to high-speed Internet service (DSL) through your telephone line, you must install a DSL filter between the telephone line cord and the telephone wall jack.

• You may be out of range. Move the handset closer to the telephone base.

• The telephone base may be too close to other appliances. Make sure the base is at least three feet from appliances such as computers or TVs.

• If your telephone is plugged in with a modem or a surge protector, plug the telephone (or modem/surge protector) into a different location. If this doesn’t solve the problem, re-plug your telephone or modem/surge protector into a different wall jack.

• The layout of your home or office may be limiting the operating range. Try moving the telephone base to another location, preferably on an upper floor.

• If other phones in your home are having the same problem, contact your telephone service provider.

• Make sure the answering system is on.

• When the answering system is on and the answering system icon on the handset flashes, the answering system memory is full. You must delete some messages to make room for new messages.

• When you record the announcement, make sure you speak in a normal tone of voice towards the microphone of the handset.

• Make sure there is no background noise when recording.

• If a caller leaves a very long message, part of it may be lost when the system disconnects the call after the preset recording time.

• If the memory on the answering system becomes full during a message, the system stops recording and disconnects the call.

• If the caller’s voice is very soft, the machine may stop recording.

• Press ▲/VOL+ or +/VOLUME to increase the speaker volume on the handset or telephone base, respectively.

• Make sure you are calling from a touch-tone phone. When you dial a number, you should hear tones. If you hear clicks, the phone is not a touch-tone telephone.

• The answering system may not detect the remote access code while your announcement is playing. Try waiting until the announcement is over before entering the code.

• Make sure you are entering the correct remote access code.

• There may be interference on the phone line you are using. Press the dial pad keys firmly.

Press MENU on your handset in idle mode, then enter 364#. The handset shows English and you will hear a confirmation tone.
