If there is a call while the handset is out of range, it may not ring, or if it does ring, the call may not connect well when you press /HOME/FLASH. Move closer to the telephone base, then press /HOME/FLASH to answer the call.

If the handset moves out of range during a telephone conversation, there may be interference. To improve reception, move closer to the telephone base.

• First try all the suggestions for “My telephone does not work at all.” and “The display shows ‘No line'”.

• Make sure the battery is installed correctly in the handset.

• Unplug the electrical power to the base. Wait for 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow up to one minute for the handset and base to reset.

• Clean the handset and base charging contacts each month with a pencil eraser or cloth.


Why does the caller ID feature not work on my VTECH CS6124-31?

• Caller ID is a subscription service. You must subscribe to this service from your telephone service provider for this feature to work on your telephone.

• The caller may not be calling from an area that supports caller ID.

• Both your and your caller’s telephone service providers must use caller ID service equipment.

• If you subscribe to high-speed Internet service (DSL) through your telephone line, you must install a DSL filter between the telephone line cord and the telephone wall jack.


The VTECH CS6124-31 does not receive caller ID when on a call. Why?

• Make sure you subscribe to caller ID with call waiting features from your telephone service provider. Caller ID features work only if both you and the caller are in areas offering caller ID service, and if both telephone service providers use compatible equipment.


What should I do if my VTECH CS6124-31 has static, noise or a weak signal?

• If you subscribe to high-speed Internet service (DSL) through your telephone line, you must install a DSL filter between the telephone line cord and the telephone wall jack.

• You may be out of range. Move the handset closer to the telephone base.

• The telephone base may be too close to other appliances. Make sure the base is at least three feet from appliances such as computers or TVs.

• If your telephone is plugged in with a modem or a surge protector, plug the telephone (or modem/surge protector) into a different location. If this doesn’t solve the problem, re-plug your telephone or modem/surge protector into a different wall jack.

• The layout of your home or office may be limiting the operating range. Try moving the telephone base to another location, preferably on an upper floor.

• If other phones in your home are having the same problem, contact your telephone service provider.


Why doesn’t the answering system of my VTECH CS6124-31 record messages?

• Make sure the answering system is on.

• When the answering system is on and the answering system icon on the handset flashes, the answering system memory is full. You must delete some messages to make room for new messages.


The outgoing announcement on my VTECH CS6124-31 is not clear. What can I do?

• When you record the announcement, make sure you speak in a normal tone of voice towards the microphone of the handset.

• Make sure there is no background noise when recording.


The messages on my VTECH CS6124-31 are incomplete. Why?

• If a caller leaves a very long message, part of it may be lost when the system disconnects the call after the preset recording time.

• If the memory on the answering system becomes full during a message, the system stops recording and disconnects the call.

• If the caller’s voice is very soft, the machine may stop recording.


I am having difficulty hearing messages or the messages are not clear on my VTECH CS6124-31. What should I do?

• Press ▲/VOL+ or +/VOLUME to increase the speaker volume on the handset or telephone base, respectively.


I cannot operate the answering system of my VTECH CS6124-31 remotely. Why?

• Make sure you are calling from a touch-tone phone. When you dial a number, you should hear tones. If you hear clicks, the phone is not a touch-tone telephone.

• The answering system may not detect the remote access code while your announcement is playing. Try waiting until the announcement is over before entering the code.

• Make sure you are entering the correct remote access code.

• There may be interference on the phone line you are using. Press the dial pad keys firmly.


I accidentally set the LCD language of my VTECH CS6124-31 to French or Spanish, how do I change it back to English?

Press MENU on your handset in idle mode, then enter 364#. The handset shows English and you will hear a confirmation tone.
