Before you start planning your VTECH ERISBUSINESSSYSTEM IS6100 system, consider the following:

• Number of station(s) you need.

• Whether you have an existing Ethernet network that can be used to connect the system telephones.

• Number of cordless accessories you need.

Notes:

• UP416 console is the main component of the ErisBusinessSystem. UP406 deskset and all other accessories cannot function without the UP416 console.

• You can only have one UP416 console in your system. Connect only one UP416 console to your desired telephone lines.

• Depending on the telephone line wall jack configuration in your office, you might need a DSL filter (not included).

• Expand the number of stations in your system by adding UP406 desksets. For more than one station, an Ethernet network is required.

• Each station in your telephone system has a unique extension number.

• Only one UP407 cordless handset and one IS6100 cordless headset can be connected to the UP416 console or a UP406 deskset.

• If a station has cordless accessories, the cordless accessories are a part of that station with the same extension number. Only one extension device can be used at a time.

The PC port on the console or the deskset can maximize your existing Ethernet network and be the Internet pass-through for your computer when the Ethernet wall jacks are all in use. Note that power must be connected to the console or deskset for the PC port to function, and this system does not support Power over Ethernet (PoE). If you use a Gigabit Ethernet system, your computer’s connection speed will be slower.

1. Unplug your computer’s Ethernet cable from the existing Ethernet wall jack.

2. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port (network icon) on the back of the console or deskset, and the other end to the Ethernet wall jack.

3. Connect your computer to the Ethernet network through the PC port (P) of the console or deskset.

The power adapter is intended to be correctly oriented in a vertical or floor mount position. The prongs are not designed to hold the plug in place if it is plugged into a ceiling, under-the-table, or cabinet outlet.

Place the console or deskset away from:

• Communication devices such as television sets, VCRs, or other cordless telephones.

• Excessive heat sources.

• Noise sources such as a window with traffic outside, motors, microwave ovens, refrigerators, or fluorescent lighting.

• Excessive moisture.

• Extremely low temperature.

• Mechanical vibration or shock such as the open lid of a washing machine or a work bench.

1. Plug one end of the telephone line cords into the telephone line jacks for L1/2, L2, L3/4, and L4 at the rear side of the console.

2. Plug the other end of the telephone line cords into the one-line telephone wall jacks.

3. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port (network icon) at the rear side of the console.

4. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into an Ethernet wall jack, which is connected to the Ethernet network.

5. Insert the connector of the power adapter into the power jack at the rear side of the console.

6. Connect the plug head of the power adapter to a power outlet that is not controlled by a wall switch. The system startup takes at least a minute, and the screen displays “booting…..”.

Note: If you have DSL high-speed Internet service on a particular line, a DSL filter (not included) is required for that line. Plug the DSL filter into the telephone wall jack.

A two-line wall jack supports two telephone numbers in one wall jack.

1. Plug one end of the black telephone line cord into the L1/2 jack at the rear side of the console.

2. Plug one end of another black telephone line cord into the L3/4 jack at the rear side of the console.

3. Plug the other end of both black telephone line cords into the two-line telephone wall jacks.

4. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port (network icon) at the rear side of the console.

5. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into an Ethernet wall jack, which is connected to the Ethernet network.

6. Insert the connector of the power adapter to the power jack at the rear side of the console.

7. Connect the plug head of the power adapter to the power outlet that is not controlled by a wall switch. The system startup takes at least a minute, and the screen displays “booting…..”.

After the system startup is complete, the screen displays: “Is this Console going to register UP406 Desksets? ‘SELECT’: Yes ‘CANCEL’: No”.

• Press SELECT if you want to set up multiple stations. The screen displays “Console is in system mode.”

• Press CANCEL if you want to set up one station. The screen displays “Console is in standalone mode.”

Multiple stations setup:

1. Once the console is in system mode, it will automatically obtain an IP address. The screen displays: “Obtaining IP from DHCP server. Please wait…”. After an IP address is obtained, the screen displays: “IP obtained: XXX.XXX.X.XXX Please set an extension number to this phone.”

2. To set an extension number, press MENU/SELECT.

3. Press /REPEAT or /SKIP to choose the desired extension number.

4. Press MENU/SELECT again to save. The screen displays “Please wait…” and “Starting….”. Wait for another minute for the console to synchronize.

5. When the startup is complete, the console enters the idle screen. Lift the handset to check for a dial tone for successful installation.

One station setup:

1. Once the console is in standalone mode, the screen displays: “Starting…”.

2. When the startup is complete, the console enters the idle screen.

3. Lift the handset to check on the dial tone for successful installation.

1. Connect the Ethernet cable between the console and an Ethernet wall jack, which is connected to the Ethernet network.

2. Follow steps 1 to 8 in “To enable the Auto set IP” under the Network setup section of the online complete user’s manual. Alternatively, you can manually obtain an IP address by following steps 1 to 8 in “To enable the Set static IP” under the Network setup section of the online complete user’s manual.

3. Register your UP406 deskset to the console.

Set up your deskset:

1. Plug one end of the coiled handset cord into the jack on the left side of the deskset.

2. Lift the kickstand to release it from its groove. There are seven pairs of grooves designed to hold the deskset at different angles for optimum visibility.

3. Snap the kickstand into the desired grooves until it locks into place.

Connect the Ethernet cable and power adapter:

1. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port (network icon) at the rear side of the deskset.

2. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into an Ethernet wall jack, which is connected to the Ethernet network.

3. Insert the connector of the power adapter to the power jack at the rear side of the deskset.

4. Connect the plug head of the power adapter to the power outlet that is not controlled by a wall switch.

The system startup takes at least a minute, and the screen displays “booting…..”.

After the system startup is complete, the deskset will automatically obtain an IP address. The screen displays: “Obtaining IP from DHCP server. Please wait…”.

After an IP address is obtained, the screen displays: “IP obtained: XXX.XXX.X.XXX Please press ‘SELECT’ to register.”

1. Press MENU/SELECT to select the obtained IP address.

2. The screen displays “Connecting to the Console. Connecting to the phone…”. Please wait.

3. The screen displays “Console is found. Set extension for this phone?”. Press SELECT.

4. The screen displays “Console is connecting. Please wait…”. Wait for the console to assign an extension number to this phone. The screen displays “Extension X is assigned to this phone.” and then “Registration Completed”.

When the startup is complete, the deskset enters the idle screen. Lift the handset to check on the dial tone for successful registration.

1. Press MENU/SELECT. The screen displays “Rename this phone?”.

2. Press MENU/SELECT again. The screen displays the current name.

3. Use the dialing keys to edit the name. Then, press MENU/SELECT to save. The deskset returns to idle.

Tip: If you do not change the name, by default, the main console will have the name “Console” and each deskset will have a unique extension number (e.g., UP406-extXX).

Install the cordless handset battery:

1. Plug the battery connector securely into the socket inside the handset battery compartment. Place the supplied battery with the label THIS SIDE UP facing up.

2. Align the cover flat against the battery compartment, then slide it upwards until it clicks into place.

3. Place the handset in the charger. The CHARGE light is on when charging.

Battery indicator:

Before beginning registration, make sure the UP407 cordless handset is charged.

1. On the console or deskset that you want to register the handset to, press and hold /FIND HS for about four seconds until the screen displays “Registering handset…”.

2. Then, on the UP407 cordless handset, press MENU/SELECT.

3. Press /REPEAT or /SKIP to select Registration, and press MENU/SELECT again to select Register.

4. The console or deskset screen displays “Connecting…”, while the cordless handset screen displays “Please wait…”. The registration process takes up to 60 seconds to complete.

5. The screen of the console or deskset returns to idle, and the cordless handset screen displays “Handset Registered” when registration is successful.

Before registering, make sure the IS6100 cordless headset is charged.

1. On the console or deskset, press MENU/SELECT.

2. Press /REPEAT or /SKIP to select Cordless devices, and press MENU/SELECT.

3. Press MENU/SELECT to select Registration, and press MENU/SELECT again.

4. Press /REPEAT or /SKIP to select Register Headset, and press MENU/SELECT.

5. The screen displays “Please put headset into registration mode. Press SELECT to continue…”.

6. Press and hold the power key on the IS6100 cordless headset for about three seconds. The indicator flashes red and blue alternately, indicating that the headset is in registration mode. Then, press SELECT on the console or deskset.

7. The registration process takes up to 60 seconds to complete.

If you want to replace your cordless handset or re-register it to another station, you must de-register the handset first.

1. Place the handset in its charger, and charge it for at least 10 minutes.

2. Lift the handset from the charger.

3. On the console or deskset where the handset is registered, press MENU/SELECT.

4. Press /REPEAT or /SKIP to select Cordless devices, and press MENU/SELECT.

5. Press MENU/SELECT to select Registration.

6. Press /REPEAT or /SKIP to select De-register Handset, and press MENU/SELECT. The screen displays “Registering DECT Handset. Put DECT Handset into Registration”. This is incorrect.

7. The screen displays “De-registering Handset: X”.

8. The de-registration takes up to 60 seconds to complete.

9. When the de-registration is complete, the console or deskset screen displays “Handset X is de-registered”.

10. For successful de-registration, the handset will beep, and its screen displays “To register, see manual…”.

1. Unplug the power adapter from the power outlet and the Ethernet cable from the network jack.

2. If you are using the telephone line cords, unplug the telephone line cords.

3. Put the coiled handset aside.

4. Push the tabs of the kickstand outwards until they are released from the grooves. Then, lift the kickstand to remove it from the phone.

5. For cable and cord management, route them through the slots at the back of the console or deskset. Make sure it locks into place.

6. Plug the telephone line cords and the coiled handset cord into the upper slots at the back of the phone.

7. Insert the connectors of the power adapter and the Ethernet cable into the lower slots at the back of the phone.

8. Align the upper wall mounting holes on the back of the console or deskset with the upper screws on the wall. Slide the phone down until it locks securely.

9. Connect the other end of the telephone line cords to the desired wall jacks, the Ethernet cable to the wall jack, and the power adapter to a power outlet that is not controlled by a wall switch.

1. Drill two holes on the wall (25mm apart).

2. Use a hammer to tap the wall anchors into the holes until they are flush with the wall.

3. Insert the screws into the wall anchors and leave about 4mm of the screws exposed.

4. Align the wall mounting holes on the back of the handset charger with the screws on the wall. Slide the charger down to secure.

• Make sure the Ethernet cable is connected properly to the console or deskset and the Ethernet wall jack.

• On the console and deskset, connect the Ethernet cable to the LAN port at the rear side of the phone.

• Make sure the network devices such as the router and switch in your system are turned on and working properly.

• Make sure the console is on the DHCP IP automatic obtaining mode. If it is on static IP obtaining mode, make sure the IP address settings are correct for your particular network.

There is a problem connecting to the Ethernet network. Disconnect the telephone line from the console and connect it to a working telephone. If there is no dial tone, the line is out of service. Contact your telephone service provider.

To manually set the IP address:

1. Press and hold *782842# until the screen displays “Press MENU to set IP”.

2. Press MENU/SELECT to enter IP Setup.

3. Press MENU/SELECT to choose DHCP.

4. Press /REPEAT or /SKIP to select Set static IP, and press MENU/SELECT.

5. The screen shows the current IP Address. Use the dialing keys to move the cursor to the left or right, and enter the IP address. Press MENU/SELECT to confirm.

6. The screen displays the subnet mask. Press MENU/SELECT to enter a specific subnet mask. Then, press MENU/SELECT to confirm.

7. The screen displays the Router/Gateway. Press MENU/SELECT to enter a specific gateway. Then, press MENU/SELECT to confirm.

After you complete all of the network settings transactions, the screen prompts you to set the extension number.

• When you enter a specific IP, make sure the IP range is not occupied by any other device on the network.

• Make sure you design a unique IP for each station, and that the other network settings are the same among the console and all desksets.

Deregister the old cordless handset first, and then register the new one.

To deregister a cordless handset:

• Make sure the console or deskset is in idle before you begin.

On the console or deskset:

1. Press MENU/SELECT.

2. Press /REPEAT or /SKIP to select Registration, and press MENU/SELECT or ►SOFTKEY.

3. Press /REPEAT or /SKIP to select Deregistration, and press MENU/SELECT or ►SOFTKEY.

4. The console or deskset screen displays Deregister all cordless devices from this station?.

5. Press MENU/SELECT to confirm.

The deregistration process takes time to complete. If the deregistration is successful, the console or deskset screen displays Deregistered. The cordless handset displays To register handset, see your user’s manual. Press CANCEL twice. To return to the idle screen, press CANCEL twice.

After the cordless handset is successfully deregistered, please register your cordless handset and headset section.
