To use the answering system, set it to answer calls at least two rings earlier than your voicemail service is set to answer. For example, if your voicemail service answers after six rings, set your answering system to answer after four rings. Some providers may program the ring delay before your calls are transferred to voicemail, and this delay cannot be changed.

How should I take care of my VTECH CS6124-2?
• Your telephone contains sophisticated electronic parts, so it must be treated with care.
• Avoid rough treatment. Place the handset down gently. Save the original packing materials to protect your telephone if you ever need to ship it.
• Avoid water. Do not let the handset get wet. It can be damaged if it falls in water.
• Electrical storms can sometimes cause power surges harmful to electronic equipment. For your own safety, use caution when using electrical appliances during storms.
• Clean your telephone with a soft cloth. Never use a strong cleaning agent or abrasive powder because this can damage the finish. Clean the charging contacts on the handset and telephone base each month with a pencil eraser or cloth.
Why doesn’t my VTECH CS6124-2 telephone work at all?
• Make sure the power cord is securely plugged in.
• Make sure the battery connector is securely plugged into the handset.
• Make sure the telephone line cord is securely and firmly plugged into the telephone base and the telephone wall jack.
• Charge the battery in the handset for at least 16 hours. For optimum daily performance, return the handset to the telephone base or charger when not in use.
• If the battery is depleted, it may take approximately 30 minutes to charge the handset before it shows Low battery. Refer to the battery indicators table for details.
• Reset the telephone base. Unplug the electrical power. Wait for approximately 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow up to one minute for the cordless handset and telephone base to reset.
• You may need to purchase a new battery.
The display on my VTECH CS6124-2 shows “Not registered.” I cannot get a dial tone. What should I do?
If the handset is far from the telephone base, move it closer. It might be out of range. If the problem persists, try resetting the base by unplugging the power and plugging it back in. If that doesn’t work, you may need to re-register the handset. Follow the instructions to register a handset.
Why can’t I dial out on my VTECH CS6124-2?
• First try all the suggestions for “My telephone does not work at all.”
• Make sure you have a dial tone before dialing.
• Eliminate any background noise. Mute the phone before dialing, or dial from a quieter room.
• If other phones in your home are working, the problem may be with your VTECH CS6124-2. Contact customer service.
• If you cannot get a dial tone, the issue may be with your telephone wiring or local service.
Why does the caller ID feature not work on my VTECH CS6124-2?
• Caller ID is a subscription service. You must subscribe to this service from your telephone service provider for this feature to work on your telephone.
• The caller must be calling from an area that supports caller ID.
• Both your and the caller’s telephone service providers must use caller ID service equipment.
• If you subscribe to high-speed Internet service (DSL – digital subscriber line) through your telephone line, you must install a DSL filter between the telephone base and the telephone wall jack.
The system does not answer after the correct number of rings. What is wrong?
• Make sure that the built-in answering system is on (ANS ON icon is displayed on the screen).
• If toll saver is activated, the number of rings changes to two when you have new messages stored. To avoid this, set the number of rings to a fixed number.
• If the memory is full or the system is off, the system will answer after 10 rings.
• In some cases, the answering system is affected by the ringing system used by your telephone service provider. Set your answering system to answer after four rings (the default setting).
• If you have a voicemail service, it may be answering your calls before your answering system does. Change the number of rings on your answering system so that it answers at least two rings before your voicemail service.
Why does the system not respond to remote commands on my VTECH CS6124-2?
• Make sure to enter your two-digit remote access code correctly.
• Make sure you are calling from a touch-tone phone. When you dial a number, you should hear tones. If you hear clicks, the telephone is not a touch-tone telephone and cannot activate the answering system.
• The answering system may not detect the remote access code while your announcement is playing. Try waiting until the announcement is over before entering the code.
Why don’t incoming calls appear on the caller ID, or why do they appear incomplete?
• The answering system might be recording. Make sure that the answering system is off when you do not wish to record.
• If a caller leaves a very long message, part of it may be lost when the system disconnects the call after the preset recording time.
• If the memory on the answering system becomes full during a message, the system stops recording and disconnects the call.
• If the caller’s voice is very soft, the system may stop recording and disconnect the call.
