• Charge the battery in the cordless handset for at least 16 hours. For optimum daily performance, return the cordless handset to the telephone base or charger when not in use.

• If the battery is depleted, it may take approximately 30 minutes to charge the handset before it shows Low battery. See the battery charging section for details.

• Reset the telephone base. Unplug the unit’s electrical power. Wait for approximately 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow up to one minute for the cordless handset and telephone base to reset.

• You may need to purchase a new battery.

What should I do if my VTECH CS6120-2 display shows “No line”?

If the display shows “No line”, first try all the suggestions for a non-working phone. If those suggestions do not work, disconnect the telephone line cord from your telephone and connect the telephone line cord to another telephone. If there is no dial tone on that other telephone either, your telephone line cord may be defective. Try installing a new telephone line cord. If changing the telephone line cord does not help, the wall jack (or the wiring to this wall jack) may be defective.

Why can’t I get a dial tone on my VTECH CS6120-2?

If you cannot get a dial tone, try the following:

• First try all the suggestions for a non-working phone and what to do if the display shows “No line”.

• Move the cordless handset closer to the telephone base. You might have moved out of range.

• If the previous suggestions don’t work, disconnect the telephone line cord from your telephone and connect it to another telephone. If there is no dial tone on that other telephone either, the problem is in your wiring or telephone service.

What should I do if I cannot dial out on my VTECH CS6120-2?

If you are unable to dial out, try these solutions:

• First try all the suggestions for not getting a dial tone.

• Make sure you have a dial tone before dialing.

• If other phones in your home are having the same problem, the problem is in your wiring or telephone service.

Why does my VTECH CS6120-2 handset not ring during an incoming call?

If your handset does not ring, check the following:

• Make sure the ringer is not turned off. Refer to the ringer volume setting instructions for your handset and base.

• Make sure the telephone line cord is plugged in securely.

• The cordless handset may be too far from the telephone base. Move it closer to the base.

• If other phones in your home are having the same problem, the problem is in your wiring or telephone service.

What should I do if my VTECH CS6120-2 handset is not charging?

If the handset will not charge in the base or charger, try these steps:

• Make sure the handset is placed in the telephone base or charger correctly. The CHARGE light on the telephone base or charger should be on.

• Clean the charging contacts on the cordless handset and telephone base or charger each month with a pencil eraser or dry cloth.

• Make sure the power adapter is securely plugged into an outlet not controlled by a wall switch.

• If the battery is depleted, it may take approximately 30 minutes to charge the handset before it shows Low battery.

• You may need to purchase a new battery.

Why does my VTECH CS6120-2 handset show “Out of range or no pwr at base”?

This message appears when the handset is out of range or there is a power failure at the base. Here’s what to do:

• Ensure the telephone base is powered on.

• Place the cordless handset in the telephone base for one minute to allow the cordless handset and base to synchronize.

• Move the cordless handset closer to the telephone base. You might have moved out of range.

• Reset the telephone base. Unplug the unit’s electrical power. Wait for approximately 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow up to one minute for the cordless handset and telephone base to reset.

Why doesn’t the answering system on my VTECH CS6120-2 record messages?

If the answering system fails to record messages, check the following:

• Make sure the answering system is on.

• Make sure the memory of the answering system is not full. When the answering machine memory is full, it does not record new messages until some old messages are deleted.

• If you subscribe to voicemail service, change the number of rings so that your answering system answers before your voicemail answers.

Why are messages on my VTECH CS6120-2 answering system incomplete?

Incomplete messages can be caused by a few issues:

• If a caller leaves a very long message, part of it may be lost when the system disconnects the call after the preset recording time (1, 2, or 3 minutes).

• If the memory on the answering machine becomes full during a message, the system stops recording and disconnects the call.

• If the caller’s voice is very soft, the machine may stop recording.

What should I do if I have difficulty hearing messages on my VTECH CS6120-2?

If you find it hard to hear your messages, press VOL+ on the telephone base or handset to increase the speaker volume.

Why doesn’t the VTECH CS6120-2 answering system respond to remote commands?

If the system does not respond to your remote commands, check the following:

• Make sure to enter the correct remote access code.

• Make sure you are calling from a touch-tone phone. When you dial a number, you should hear tones. If you hear clicks, the phone is not a touch-tone telephone.

• The answering system may not detect the remote access code while your announcement is playing. Try waiting until the announcement is over before entering the code.

Why does my VTECH CS6120-2 seem to erase my messages?

If you have both a built-in answering system and a voicemail service, the VTECH CS6120-2 answering system may answer and record a message, but then a power interruption could erase your base’s memory. If the power goes out, messages stored in the telephone base will be deleted. To avoid this, consider using only a voicemail service provided by your telephone service provider.

Why isn’t Caller ID working on my VTECH CS6120-2?

If you are not receiving caller ID information, check these points:

• Caller ID is a subscription service. You must subscribe to this service from your telephone service provider for this feature to work.

• Your caller must be calling from an area that supports caller ID.

• Both your and your caller’s telephone service providers must use caller ID compatible equipment.

• If you subscribe to high-speed Internet service (DSL) through your telephone line, you must install a DSL filter between the telephone base and the telephone wall jack.

Why doesn’t my VTECH CS6120-2 system answer after the correct number of rings?

This can happen if you have both a built-in answering system and a voicemail service. To ensure your answering system answers first, you must set your built-in answering system to answer at least two rings before your voicemail service is set to answer. For example, if your voicemail answers after six rings, set your built-in answering system to answer after four rings.

Why is the screen on my VTECH CS6120-2 blank?

The screen might be blank because the handset is not properly registered to the base, or it could be out of range. Try placing the handset back on the telephone base for one minute to re-synchronize it.
