How does the Retightening Torque Method of the TOHNICHI CTB2-G work?
The retightening torque method measures the torque at which a tightened bolt starts to rotate again as further torque is applied. The tool identifies the “T-point” (Tt), which is the torque value where the friction settles and increases at a steady pace after overcoming static friction. This T-point value is an accurate inspection of the original tightening torque (TT).
The retightening measured values are classified into 3 kinds:
• The torque which overcomes the static friction of the bolt (A point).
• The torque at which the bolt starts to turn continuously (B point).
• The maximum torque at this inspection (C point).
The TOHNICHI CTB2-G uses the T-point method, where it analyzes the torque-angle graph to determine the stable point, providing a more accurate measurement of the original tightening torque.

What do the error messages on the TOHNICHI CTB2-G mean?
• Err0: Error occurred at angle sensor.
This is an angle speed detection error. Turn the power off, put the wrench down still, and turn it back on. If the error remains, contact your distributor.
• Err1 – Err5: Appears when a key is pressed during power-on self-test.
This indicates a membrane switch error. Turn the power off, ensure no keys are pressed, and turn it back on. If the error remains, contact your distributor.
• Err8: Error occurred at data memory.
Contact your distributor for repair.
• Err9: Error occurred at torque sensor or circuit board.
This appears during an Auto Zero attempt when torque is too high. Press the C key at no load condition. If the error disappears, it can be used. If it remains, contact your distributor.
• E-1: Appears when inappropriate measuring method is applied.
The collected data was not enough to compute the T-point. Apply a smoother force or tighten further. Press C or MEM key and try again. Refer to “Points to Remember in Measurement”.
• E-3: Appears when excessive torque (105% or more of capacity torque) is applied.
Press the C key and try the measurement again, ensuring not to exceed the wrench’s capacity.
• E-4: Appears when the measured value is abnormal.
The measured value is beyond the capacity torque or is a negative value. This can happen if the tightened application itself is moving. Ensure the application is securely fixed and try again.
What are the key points to remember for accurate measurement with the TOHNICHI CTB2-G?
• Choose the appropriate mode: If you are using the TOHNICHI CTB2-G for a long bolt or long sockets of a twist nature (like a hex socket), it may result in an error value (very small torque value). In such cases, change the setting from “NORMAL” mode to “LONG” mode and try the measurement again.
• Hold the torque wrench level: If the torque wrench is tilted, it may cause a miscalculation of bolt rotation. Make sure you hold it level so that it does not tilt.
• Fix the tightening application securely: The TOHNICHI CTB2-G uses both torque and angle increase to calculate the value. If the application itself moves, it may affect the accurate calculation and result in an abnormal value.
• Retighten until the buzzer sounds: You must retighten a bolt further until the buzzer sounds and the blue LED turns on. If the collected data is not enough for computing, the T-point cannot be determined, and an “E-1” error will flash. Press C key to measure again.
• Apply a smooth and steady hand force: Apply force to the torque wrench smoothly and steadily until the buzzer sounds and the blue LED turns on. If retightening is stopped mid-measurement, an accurate result may not be achieved due to subtle changes in static friction.
