What are the safety warnings for using the SONY MDR-1000X?

To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose the SONY MDR-1000X to rain or moisture.

To reduce the risk of fire, do not cover the ventilation opening of the apparatus with newspapers, tablecloths, curtains, etc. Do not expose the apparatus to naked flame sources (for example, lighted candles).

To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this apparatus to dripping or splashing, and do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the apparatus.

Do not install the appliance in a confined space, such as a bookcase or built-in cabinet.

As the main plug of battery charger is used to disconnect the main plug from the mains, connect it to an easily accessible AC outlet. Should you notice an abnormality in it, disconnect it from the AC outlet immediately.

The unit is not waterproof. If water or foreign objects enter the unit, it may result in fire or electric shock. If water or a foreign object enters the unit, stop use immediately and consult your nearest Sony dealer. In particular, be careful in the following cases.

When using the unit around a sink, etc. Be careful that the unit does not fall into a sink or container filled with water.

When using the unit in the rain or snow, or in humid locations.

When using the unit while you are sweaty. If you touch the unit with wet hands, or put the unit in the pocket of a damp article of clothing, the unit may get wet.

The unit or its small parts may be swallowed. After use, store the unit in the supplied carrying case and store in a location out of reach of small children.


What should I know about Bluetooth communications with the SONY MDR-1000X?

Bluetooth wireless technology operates within a range of about 10 m (30 feet). The maximum communication distance may vary depending on the presence of obstacles (people, metal objects, walls, etc.) or the electromagnetic environment.

Bluetooth communications may be disabled, or noise or audio dropout may occur under the following conditions:

When there is a person between the unit and the Bluetooth device. This situation may be improved by positioning the Bluetooth device so that it faces the antenna of the unit.

When there is an obstacle, such as a metal object or a wall, between the unit and the Bluetooth device.

When a Wi-Fi device or microwave oven is in use, or microwaves are emitted near the unit.

The antenna is built into the unit as illustrated by the dotted line in image A.

The sensitivity of the Bluetooth communications will improve by removing any obstacles between the connected Bluetooth device and the antenna of this unit.

Because Bluetooth devices and Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11b/g/n) use the same frequency (2.4 GHz), microwave interference may occur resulting in noise or audio dropout or communications being disabled if this unit is used near a Wi-Fi device. In such a case, perform the following.

Use this unit at least 10 m (30 feet) away from the Wi-Fi device.

If this unit is used within 10 m (30 feet) of a Wi-Fi device, turn off the Wi-Fi device.

Install this unit and the Bluetooth device as near to each other as possible.

Microwaves emitting from a Bluetooth device may affect the operation of electronic medical devices. Turn off this unit and other Bluetooth devices in the following locations, as it may cause an accident:

where inflammable gas is present, in a hospital, or a gas station

near automatic doors or a fire alarm.

This product emits radio waves when used in wireless mode. When used in wireless mode on an airplane, follow flight crew directions regarding permissible use of products in wireless mode.

Due to the characteristic of the wireless technology, the sound played on this unit is delayed from the sound and music played on the sending device. Therefore, the image and sound may be misaligned when viewing a movie or playing a game.

This unit supports security capabilities that comply with the Bluetooth standard to provide a secure connection when the Bluetooth wireless technology is used, but security may not be sufficient depending on the setting. Be careful when communicating using Bluetooth wireless technology.

Connection with all Bluetooth devices cannot be guaranteed.

A device featuring Bluetooth function is required to conform to the Bluetooth standard specified by Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and be authenticated.

Even if the connected device conforms to the above mentioned Bluetooth standard, some devices may not be connected or work correctly, depending on the features or specifications of the device.

While talking on the phone hands-free, noise may occur, depending on the device or communication environment.

Depending on the device to be connected, it may require some time to start communications.


How do I charge the SONY MDR-1000X?

This unit can be charged using USB only. A computer with a USB port is required for charging.

When charging, the unit cannot be turned on, nor can the Bluetooth and noise canceling functions be used.

If you do not use the unit for a long time, the rechargeable battery may become depleted quickly. The battery will be able to hold a proper charge after it is discharged and recharged several times.

If you store the unit for a long time, charge the battery once every half year to prevent over-discharge.

If the length of time you can use the unit becomes extremely short, the rechargeable battery should be replaced with a new one. Please contact your nearest Sony dealer for a battery replacement.

Be sure to use the supplied micro-USB cable.


What should I know about static electricity when using the SONY MDR-1000X?

Static electricity accumulated in the body may cause mild tingling in your ears. To minimize the effect, wear clothes made from natural materials.


What are the general precautions for using the SONY MDR-1000X?

Do not place this unit in a place subject to moisture, dust, soot or steam, or in a car or place subject to direct sunlight.

The Bluetooth function may not function with a mobile phone, depending on the radio wave conditions and location where the equipment is being used.

Do not apply weight or pressure to this unit as it may cause the unit to deform during long storage.

If you experience discomfort after using the unit, stop using the unit immediately.

The earpads may deteriorate due to long-term storage or use. For replacement earpads, consult your nearest Sony dealer.

When you clean the exterior of the unit, use a soft dry cloth. If the unit is particularly dirty, soak a cloth in a dilute solution of neutral detergent, and wring it well before cleaning the unit. Do not use solvents such as thinner, benzene, or alcohol, as they may damage the surface.
