What are the main safety warnings for the SONY MDR-1000X headphones?

To reduce the risk of fire or electrical shock, do not expose the SONY MDR-1000X to rain or moisture. Do not install the appliance in a confined space, such as a bookcase or built-in cabinet. To reduce the risk of fire, do not cover the ventilation opening of the appliance with newspapers, tablecloths, curtains, etc. Do not expose the appliance to naked flame sources (for example, lighted candles).

As the main plug of the battery charging device is used to disconnect the battery charging device from the mains, connect it to an easily accessible AC outlet. Should you notice an abnormality in it, disconnect it from the AC outlet immediately.

Do not expose the batteries (battery pack or batteries installed) to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like for a long time.

The risk of explosion if the battery is replaced by an incorrect type.

Do not dismantle, open or shred secondary cells or batteries. In the event of a cell leaking, do not allow the liquid to come in contact with the skin or eyes. If contact has been made, wash the affected area with copious amounts of water and seek medical advice.

What general precautions should I take when using the SONY MDR-1000X?

Please observe the following precautions to ensure proper use of your SONY MDR-1000X headphones:

• Do not listen at a high volume for an extended period. High volume may damage your hearing. For traffic safety, do not use while driving or cycling.

• Do not put weight or pressure on this unit as it may cause the unit to deform during long storage.

• The SONY MDR-1000X is not waterproof. If water or foreign objects enter the unit, it may result in fire or electric shock. If this occurs, stop use immediately and consult a Sony dealer.

• Be careful not to drop the unit or subject it to shock. This may cause a malfunction.

• Static electricity accumulated in the body may cause mild tingling in your ears. To minimize the effect, wear clothes made from natural materials.

• Do not use the unit in places where it would be dangerous if you are unable to hear ambient sound, such as at railroad crossings, train station platforms, and construction sites.

• The earpads may deteriorate due to long-term storage or use. Replace the earpads when they are worn out.

What can interfere with the BLUETOOTH connection on my SONY MDR-1000X?

BLUETOOTH wireless technology operates within a range of about 10 meters. The maximum communication range may vary depending on the presence of obstacles (people, metal objects, walls, etc.) or the electromagnetic environment.

The following conditions may cause sound to skip or communication to be lost:

• When there is a person between the unit and the BLUETOOTH device. This situation can be improved by positioning the BLUETOOTH device so that it faces the antenna of the unit.

• When there is an obstacle, such as a metal object or a wall, between the unit and the BLUETOOTH device.

• When a Wi-Fi device or microwave oven is in use, or microwaves are emitted near the unit.

• The antenna is built into the SONY MDR-1000X as indicated by the dotted line in diagram A in the manual. The sensitivity of the communications will improve by turning the built-in antenna towards the connected BLUETOOTH device. When an obstacle is between the antenna and the device, noise or audio dropouts may occur.

• Because BLUETOOTH devices and Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11b/g/n) use the same frequency (2.4 GHz), microwave interference may occur resulting in noise, audio dropouts, or the inability to connect if this unit is used near a Wi-Fi device.

• Connecting to a BLUETOOTH device that is already connected to other devices may affect the connection.

What should I do if sound skips frequently during playback on my SONY MDR-1000X?

If sound frequently skips during playback, the situation may be improved by changing the wireless playback quality settings or fixing the wireless transmission mode to SBC on the transmitting device. For details, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the transmitting device.

If you are using a smartphone, the situation may be improved by shutting down unnecessary applications or restarting your smartphone.

How do I properly charge the SONY MDR-1000X headphones?

Follow these guidelines for charging your SONY MDR-1000X:

• A USB port is required for charging. You will need a personal computer with a USB port, or a USB AC adaptor (not supplied).

• The SONY MDR-1000X can be charged using the micro-USB cable only. It is not compatible with other cables.

• While charging, the unit cannot be turned on, and the BLUETOOTH and noise canceling functions cannot be used.

• The unit will not be able to charge if your computer enters into standby, hibernation or sleep mode.

• If you do not use the unit for a long time, the rechargeable battery may not be able to hold a sufficient charge. The battery will be able to hold a charge properly after repeatedly discharging and charging several times.

• If you store the unit for a long time, charge the battery once every half year to prevent over-discharge.

• If the length of time you can use the unit becomes extremely short, the rechargeable battery should be replaced with a new one. Please contact your nearest Sony dealer for a battery replacement.

• The charging temperature is 5 °C to 35 °C.

How does the noise canceling function of the SONY MDR-1000X work?

• The noise canceling circuit actually senses outside noise with built-in microphones and sends an equal-but-opposite canceling signal to the unit. The noise canceling effect may not be pronounced in a very quiet environment, or some noise may be heard.

• The noise canceling function works for noise in the low-frequency band primarily. Although noise is reduced, it is not canceled completely.

• When you use the unit in a train or a car, noise may occur depending on street conditions.

• Mobile phones may cause interference and noise. Should this occur, locate the unit further away from the mobile phone.

• Depending on how you wear the unit, the effect of noise canceling may vary or a beeping sound (feedback) may occur. If this happens, take off the unit and put it on again.

• Do not cover the microphones of the headset with your hands. The noise canceling function or the Ambient Sound Mode may not work properly, or a beeping sound (feedback) may occur. If this happens, take your hands off of the microphones of the headset.

Are there any specific notes on using the SONY MDR-1000X?

• Do not subject the SONY MDR-1000X to excessive shock.

• The touch sensor may not operate properly if you apply stickers or other adhesive items to the touch sensor control panel.

• The BLUETOOTH function may not work with a mobile phone, depending on signal conditions and the surrounding environment.

• If you experience discomfort after using the unit, stop using it immediately.

• When you connect the headphone cable, the BLUETOOTH function is disabled, but you can use the unit as normal headphones. The noise canceling function can be used while the headphone cable is connected and the unit is turned on.

• To clean the unit, use a soft dry cloth. If the unit is particularly dirty, soak a cloth in a dilute solution of neutral detergent, and wring it well before cleaning.

• Do not leave the unit in a place subject to direct sunlight, heat or moisture.

• Do not use the supplied headphone cable with any other device.
