How do I perform the initial setup of the TELESTAR TOP 250?

Follow these steps for the initial setup of your TELESTAR TOP 250:

1. Prepare the remote: Remove the battery transport protection by pulling the plastic tab out of the battery housing.

2. Connect the antenna: Screw the supplied telescopic antenna into the antenna connection on the back of the unit.

3. Connect power: Connect the supplied mains adapter to the DC IN socket on the rear of the unit and plug the adapter into a 230 V socket. Switch the radio on using the standby button on the remote control or on the unit.

4. Select language: Use the arrow keys on the remote control to select your menu language. Confirm your preferred language with the OK key.

7. Set Summer Time: Switch summer time (daylight saving) on if it is currently in effect.

8. Select Standby Mode: Choose whether the time should be displayed when the radio is in standby mode. “Comfortable standby” shows the clock but uses slightly more power. “Eco standby” uses very little power but does not show the clock and the alarm function is deactivated.

9. Set up Local Radio: Select your continent and then your country to get access to internet radio broadcasts from your local stations.

10. Connect to WiFi: A list of available WiFi networks will be displayed. Select your network and confirm with OK. Use the keys on the remote or the rotary knob to enter your WiFi password, using the right arrow key to advance. Press OK to confirm. The registration with the router may take some time.


How do I access and navigate the main menu on the TELESTAR TOP 250?

To access the main menu, press and hold the Menu button on the unit or the remote control. This will always return you to the main menu, regardless of the current device settings.

Navigate through the main menu using the arrow keys or the rotary knob on the unit. The main menu is divided into the following sub-items:

You can set up to 5 alarms on your TELESTAR TOP 250. Follow these steps:

3. Select one of the 5 available alarms and confirm by pressing the OK button.

4. In the alarm menu, you can configure the following settings:

Status: Activate the alarm by setting this to “active”.

Time: Set the desired alarm time using the number pad on the remote or the rotary knob on the unit. Confirm with OK.

Mode: Set the repetition intervals. You can choose whether the alarm should be activated once, daily, on weekdays or only at the weekend at the set time.

Volume: Set the volume for the alarm.

Tone: Select a tone or a DAB+, Internet or FM radio station to be played. Please note that at least one favourite station must be saved for the selected reception mode if you select the radio station option.

To stop or snooze the alarm:

• To stop an alarm, press the ON/OFF button on the remote control or the unit.

• To activate the snooze function, press any key on the unit (except the Standby key). This will interrupt the alarm for 5 minutes, after which it will be activated again.

• To deactivate the alarm until the next day, press the ON/OFF button on the unit.


How do I listen to DAB+ radio and scan for stations on my TELESTAR TOP 250?

To listen to DAB+ radio:

1. Press the MENU button on the remote or use the arrow keys on the unit to select the “DAB/DAB+” menu item.

2. Press the OK button on the remote control or the rotary knob on the unit to confirm.

To scan for DAB+ stations:

An automatic station scan is required to receive DAB+ stations. If the radio has not yet stored any programmes in DAB mode, the scan starts automatically as soon as the radio is switched to DAB reception mode.

To perform an automatic scan manually:

1. In DAB mode, press the Back button, if necessary several times, to get to the scan option.

2. Select the automatic station scan line and confirm by pressing the Enter/OK key on the remote control or by pressing the rotary knob on the unit.

3. The radio will now automatically search for all available digital radio stations and save them in a station list. The number on the right shows the number of radio stations found.

After a successful scan, the radio will start playing the first station found. You can then press the “List” button to view and select from the DAB station list.


How do I save and recall favourite radio stations on the TELESTAR TOP 250?

You can save favourite stations in two ways on the TELESTAR TOP 250:

Saving to the station preset buttons on the unit:

You can save up to 4 radio stations on the station preset buttons (1-4) on the front of the unit.

1. Select a radio station you want to save.

2. Press and hold the station memory button (1, 2, 3, or 4) on which you want to save the station for approx. 3 seconds.

3. The radio station is now saved. You can now access this station by pressing this button.

Saving to the Favourites list (for the remote control):

You can save up to 10 radio stations in a favourites list, which can be quickly accessed with the Favourite button on the remote control.

1. Select a radio station that you want to add to your favourites list.

2. Press the FAV+ key on the remote control.

3. Now select the number of the memory location on which you want to save the radio station.

4. Press and hold the FAV+ key on the remote control for approx. 2 seconds. The radio station is now saved on the selected memory location.


How do I connect and play audio from an external device via the AUX IN port on my TELESTAR TOP 250?

You can connect an external music player, such as an MP3 player, to the radio. Follow these steps:

1. Connect the external device to the AUX IN port on the rear of the radio using a suitable cable (3.5 mm stereo jack cable).

2. Switch on the external device.

3. On the TELESTAR TOP 250, press the MENU button on the remote control or on the unit.

4. Select “AUX” in the menu using the keys on the remote control or the rotary knob and confirm by pressing OK.

5. Alternatively, you can switch to AUX mode by pressing the MODE button on the unit repeatedly until AUX mode is activated.

You can now play music from the external device. Playback control (skip track, back, stop, play) is controlled by the connected device. The volume can be adjusted via the VOL+/- keys or the knob on the radio, or via the external device itself.

The TELESTAR TOP 250 can be connected to an external device (e.g. smartphone, tablet) via Bluetooth to play media. To do this, a Bluetooth connection must first be established.

1. Press the menu button on the remote control or on the unit and select Bluetooth mode.

2. Once you have selected Bluetooth mode on the radio, the unit is in pairing mode and searches for Bluetooth devices with which it can connect.

3. Now activate the Bluetooth function on the external device you want to connect (refer to the operating instructions for your device for more details).

4. Search for the correct device name in the overview of available devices on your phone/tablet, select it and then establish the connection.

Once a Bluetooth connection has been established, you can play music files stored on the external device via the radio. Simply start music playback on the external device.


Can the TELESTAR TOP 250 send audio to Bluetooth headphones or speakers?

Yes, the TELESTAR TOP 250 can also function as a Bluetooth transmitter, allowing you to transmit audio signals from the radio via Bluetooth to compatible Bluetooth receiving devices such as Bluetooth headphones.

Proceed as follows to start the Bluetooth transmission:

1. Navigate to the System settings menu and search for the “Bluetooth” submenu. Select it with the OK button.

2. Select “Transmit mode” and then “Automatic connection”. Then return to the “Bluetooth” menu.

3. Press the OK button to select “Bluetooth devices”. The radio will then start searching for available Bluetooth speakers or Bluetooth headphones.

4. Then select the device from the list by pressing OK. The sound is output to your Bluetooth receiving device and the radio loudspeaker is automatically muted.

NOTE: When Bluetooth playback mode (receiver mode) is activated, Bluetooth transmission is stopped.


How do I record radio programmes on the TELESTAR TOP 250?

You can record FM, DAB+ and Internet radio programmes to a connected USB storage device. The radio creates a folder called “PVR” on the USB drive where all recordings are stored.

To record instantly:

1. While listening to a programme, press the Record button (Rec) on the unit or the remote control. A red recording symbol will be shown on the display.

2. To end the recording, press the Stop button and confirm the prompt with OK.

To set a timed recording:

1. Press and hold the Record button on the unit or remote control for more than 2 seconds. Alternatively, you can select the Timer option in the System menu.

2. In the timer menu, set the following options:

Name: Select the radio programme you want to record.

Date: Enter the date on which the timer should start.

Start time: Select the start time line, press OK and enter the time at which the timer is to be activated.

Duration: Set the recording time here in hours and minutes.

Mode: Specify whether the recording should take place only once or daily.

Please note that the recorded files can only be played back with this device.


How do I operate the TELESTAR TOP 250 with the Soundmate app?

You can operate compatible Internet radio services on your TELESTAR TOP 250 via your tablet or smartphone using the Soundmate app.

1. Start the app: When you start the app, it will automatically recognise the radio, provided it is logged into the same network.

2. Select the radio: Tap on the recognised radio to start the app.

3. Navigate the app: The main menu of the app is structured like the radio’s menu. You can use the various icons to access functions like Internet Radio, DAB+, FM, and more.

4. Playback screen: When you click on the currently selected station, you can see all the information about the running radio station. Here you can also adjust the volume, start a recording on a USB data carrier, plan a recording, call up the favourites list and display a list of all radio stations.

5. Recording: Press the record button to start recording the current programme. A USB storage medium must be connected to the radio’s USB port.

6. Remote control function: You can control the radio with a virtual remote control. Tap the remote control symbol at the bottom of the screen. You can use a touch controller to swipe right, left, up or down to control various functions, or select the “Buttons” menu item to operate the radio via the app as with a classic remote control.

The display on my TELESTAR TOP 250 is not switched on and the radio does not react. What should I do?

If the display is off and the radio is unresponsive, please connect the device to the mains using the supplied mains cable.


The remote control for my TELESTAR TOP 250 is not working. What could be the cause?

The battery may be empty or inserted incorrectly. Please check that the batteries are inserted the right way round. Also, ensure you are pointing the remote control at the device.


DAB+ reception on my TELESTAR TOP 250 is interrupted. How can I fix this?

If you are experiencing interrupted DAB+ reception, try the following:

• Make sure there are available stations by performing a scan.

• Ensure the antenna is fully extended.

• Change the location of the radio (e.g. closer to a window) and perform another scan.


AUX playback is not working on my TELESTAR TOP 250. What should I check?

The radio is in the wrong mode. Please switch to AUX mode. Also, check that the cable connection between the radio and the external device is not faulty.


Why is the audio quality poor during music playback on my TELESTAR TOP 250?

This could be due to a file with a low bitrate. Check the audio file. For MP3 files, the bitrate should be 192 Kbit/s or higher for good quality.


The volume on my TELESTAR TOP 250 is too low. What should I do?

Check the volume setting on the radio itself. If you are playing music from a paired device (like a phone via Bluetooth), also check the volume setting on that device.


I cannot establish a network or WiFi connection with my TELESTAR TOP 250. What are the possible causes?
