What should I do if the polarized plug on my SHARK S3501SP does not fit in the outlet?
The SHARK S3501SP has a polarized plug, meaning one blade is wider than the other. This safety feature allows the plug to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.
On what types of floors should I avoid using the SHARK S3501SP?
Your SHARK S3501SP is designed to clean hard floor surfaces that will withstand high heat. Do not use on unsealed wood or unglazed ceramic floors. On surfaces that have been treated with wax or some no-wax floors, the sheen may be removed by the heat and steam action. It is always recommended to test an isolated area of the surface to be cleaned before proceeding. We also recommend that you check the use and care instructions from the floor manufacturer.
How do I assemble my SHARK S3501SP steam mop?
1. Insert the mop handle into the pump actuator (the tube that leads to the tank). Push the mop handle and pump actuator together until you hear it click into place.
2. Select a mop head (Rectangle or Triangle) and a cleaning pad. Fit one side of the pocket onto the head first, then use the lavender loop to pull the pocket over the head. Attach the quick fasteners on the top of the pocket to secure it in place.
3. Snap the mop head into the base to secure it. To exchange mop heads, press the release button.
How do I fill the water tank on my SHARK S3501SP?
First, make sure the SHARK S3501SP is UNPLUGGED. Lay the mop on the floor or a counter top. Remove the water tank cap by turning it counter-clockwise. Use the filling flask to pour water into the tank. Do not overfill the water tank. Replace the water cap and tighten by turning it clockwise.
Important: Only add water to the tank. Chemicals or cleaning solutions may damage the appliance and could be unsafe.
How do I prepare the SHARK S3501SP for use?
1. Ensure the floors are swept or vacuumed before using the steam mop.
2. For your comfort, adjust the height of the mop. Lift the latch on the tube 90 degrees to the open position. Holding the handle, extend the tube to your desired height, and then close the latch to the locked position. For easier pushing and pulling, extend the handle length.
3. Pull and twist the quick release cord holder to unwrap the power cord completely.
4. Plug the mop into a 120-volt electrical outlet. The power “On” light will turn blue. It takes approximately 30 seconds for the mop to heat up and the steam to be ready.
5. Pump the handle of the mop by pushing downward about 10 to 12 times to create steam. This priming action is especially important the first time you use the mop. Steam is created automatically when you start mopping.
How do I operate the SHARK S3501SP to clean my floors?
1. After preparing the mop, pump the handle a few times in a downward motion. This pumping action will release steam as you mop and allows you to customize the amount of steam you want.
2. Begin mopping with a forward and backward motion. The natural motion of mopping will produce steam.
3. When one side of the micro-fiber pocket gets dirty, just flip the mop head over and you can quickly start using the other side.
Important: Never leave the steam mop in one spot for any period of time with a damp or wet micro-fiber pocket attached as this will damage your floors.
What should I do when the water tank on my SHARK S3501SP is empty?
When the water tank is empty, the SHARK S3501SP will stop producing steam. You can refill the water tank at any time as long as the mop is unplugged from the outlet. Follow the instructions for filling the water tank.
How do I use the Carpet Glider with my SHARK S3501SP?
The Carpet Glider can be used with the Rectangle head to lightly steam your carpet and area rugs for deodorizing and freshening. The SHARK S3501SP will not clean your carpeting.
1. Place the mop head on top of the glider.
2. Move the mop back and forth across a section of the carpet.
Note: The steam mop rests on top of the carpet glider; it is not a fixed attachment. Do not leave the steam mop with the carpet glider in one stationary position for any period of time.
What is the proper procedure for storing my SHARK S3501SP after use?
1. When you have finished using the SHARK S3501SP, unplug the cord from the outlet and move it into an upright position.
2. Let the unit cool for 2-3 minutes.
3. Release any remaining steam by pumping the handle several times before removing the micro-fiber cleaning pocket.
4. Remove the micro-fiber cleaning pocket by releasing the quick fasteners and using the lavender loop on the side of the pocket. Avoid contact with the hot pocket or dirt.
5. Empty the water tank.
6. To store the SHARK S3501SP hanging up, first remove the head (after it has cooled and the steam has been released), then hang on a large hook.
7. If you want to store it standing upright, make sure it’s leaning against a wall for added support and safety. Always store your steam mop with the micro-fiber pocket removed, away from children or high-traffic areas.
How should I clean and care for the micro-fiber cleaning pockets of my SHARK S3501SP?
To keep your micro-fiber cleaning pockets as good as new:
1. We recommend washing your micro-fiber pockets separately from other fabrics to avoid picking up lint.
2. Only use liquid detergent. Do not use powder detergent, fabric softeners, or bleach.
3. Line dry or dry on a low dryer setting.
4. If there are loose threads on the pocket, carefully cut the thread with scissors. Do not pull on them or cut at the base.

Why are my floors cloudy, streaky, or spotty after using the SHARK S3501SP?
There are several possible reasons for this:
1. The micro-fiber pocket might be dirty. Flip or change the pocket.
2. If you washed the pocket with powder detergent, the pocket might be ruined.
3. If you are cleaning in a kitchen area where there might be a build-up of grease, use a degreasing agent such as an all-purpose cleaner or dish soap and paper towels to clean the area first.
4. You might have left the mop in the same spot for too long.
5. If you have hard water, we recommend switching to distilled water.
