For your safety, follow these instructions if you smell gas:

4. Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions carefully.

5. If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.

Yes. Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas can be produced in a water heater that has not been used for two weeks or more, which can be explosive. If the hot water has not been used for two weeks or more, prevent the possibility of damage or injury by turning on all hot water faucets and allowing them to run for several minutes. Do this before using any electrical appliance connected to the hot water system, like your MABE GE MCL2040EEDGY. This will allow any built-up hydrogen gas to escape. Since the gas is flammable, do not smoke or use an open flame or appliance during this process.

Follow these steps to use your MABE GE MCL2040EEDGY washer:

Step 1. Add detergent and optional bleach. If using, also add fabric softener to its dispenser.

Step 2. Add clothing to the washer drum.

Step 3. Select the load size, other wash options, and the wash cycle.

Step 4. Close the lid and press START.

Place the load of clothes evenly around the infuser (preferably not over the infuser) so that the load is evenly distributed. The washing machine starts the cycle by turning the basket to accommodate the load for better cycle development. For dry items, do not load higher than the top row of holes in the washer basket. When loading wet items, set the right water level for items to move about freely; the water level should just cover the clothes.

For bulky items, a special accommodation is suggested. Take one end and insert it in a spiral shape, keeping the clothes arranged around the basket until you reach the other extreme. If clothes exceed the indicated limit, compress them slightly inside, ensuring the volume is below the limit.

For waterproof or water-resistant items (e.g., diaper covers, waterproof bed covers, jackets), use ONLY the Bulky cycle. DO NOT use other cycles for these items. Also, do not mix waterproof and non-waterproof items in the same load.

The Sanitized cycle is designed to eliminate bacteria, viruses, and germs. For correct operation, you must use hot water; ensure hot water is available in your installation. First, put the detergent in the bottom of the tub, then add the clothes. This cycle is ideal for high-cotton items like towels, jeans, and sheets. For the best performance, set the “Temperature” and “Water Level” knobs to the “Automatic” position.

In “personal touch mode,” you can go through wash stages independently. Press the “Select” button repeatedly to choose from the following options:

Wash only: This function will fill the washer and then provide agitation. At the end of the wash stage, the spin light will turn on, without draining the water.

Rinse only: This function drains and spins the wash. Then, it will fill the tub with clean water and provide rinse agitation to complete the stage. The rinse light will stay on at the end without draining.

Only wash and rise: It will fill the washer and provide wash agitation. It will then drain the water, and the spin light will come on. After that, it fills the tub with clean water and provides a rinse, but does not drain at the end.

Only wash and spin: This function will fill the washer and provide wash agitation. At the end, it will drain the water and spin the clothes to complete the cycle.

Only rise and spin: This function will drain the water. The spin light will turn on, the tub will fill with clean water for a rinse, and then it will drain the water and spin the clothing.

To use the dispenser:

1. Make sure the dispenser is securely attached to the agitator.

2. Use only liquid diluted fabric softener. Pour into the dispenser using the amount recommended on the package.

3. Add water to the dispenser until it reaches the maximum fill line.

4. Select the appropriate setting on the control panel for proper dispersion.

To clean the dispenser:

1. Remove the dispenser from the top of the agitator.

2. Separate the dispenser cup from the cover by grasping the top and pushing down on the inside of the cup.

3. Soak both the dispenser cup and cover in a solution of 3.8 liters of warm water, 1/4 cup (60 ml) of heavy-duty liquid detergent, and 1 cup (240 ml) of bleach.

4. If necessary, loosen dirt with a soft cloth. Do not use a stiff brush.

5. Rinse and reassemble the dispenser. Place it back on the agitator.

Follow these steps to safely use the bleach funnel:

1. Check clothing care labels for special instructions.

2. Measure liquid bleach carefully, following instructions on the bottle. Never pour undiluted liquid chlorine bleach directly onto clothes or into the wash basket. Do not pour powdered bleach into the bleach funnel.

3. Before starting the washer, pour the measured amount of bleach directly into the bleach funnel. Avoid splashing or overfilling. If you prefer to use powdered bleach, add it to the wash basket with the detergent.

Warning: Do not mix chlorine bleach with ammonia or acids such as vinegar and/or rust remover. Mixing can produce a toxic gas which may cause death.

Washer Basket: Leave the lid open after washing to allow moisture to evaporate. To clean the basket, use a clean soft cloth dampened with liquid detergent, then rinse. Do not use harsh or gritty cleaners.

Fill Hoses: It is recommended to change hoses every 5 years.

Exterior: Immediately wipe off any spills. Wipe with a damp cloth. Try not to hit the surface with sharp objects.

Dryer Exterior: Wipe or dust any spills with a damp cloth. Keep laundry pretreatment products away from the dryer as they can damage the control panel and finishes.

Lint Filter: Clean the filter before each use. To remove wax buildup from fabric softeners, wash the lint filter with soap and warm water. Dry completely before replacing. Do not operate the dryer without the lint filter in place.

Exhaust Duct: Inspect and clean the exhaust duct at least once a year to prevent clogging.

Automatic cycles determine fabric dryness for you. You can select “less dry” if you want clothes slightly damp at the end of the cycle, or “more dry” if you want them drier.

High / Cottons: For regular to heavy cottons. For most loads, select OPTIMUM DRY. Also used for garments with cotton or fabrics combined with cotton.

Sanitized: A high-temperature cycle. Do not use for delicate clothing like lycra or sports synthetics. Do not put in more than 6 clothes that have laces or ribbons.

Medium / Easy Care: For synthetics, blends, wrinkle-free garments, and items labeled for permanent press.

Low / Delicates: For delicates, synthetics, and special care knits. For mostly synthetic clothes, thin baby clothes, or underwear that require special care. Use for items labeled “tumble dry low.”

Timed dry cycles run for a selected amount of time.

Dewrinkle: For removing wrinkles from items that are clean and very lightly damp.

Fluff: For freshening or removing lint from already dry clothing.

This is likely due to using too much detergent. Measure detergent carefully. Use less soap if you have soft water, a smaller load, or a lightly soiled load.

There are several possible causes for water leaks:

Improperly connected hoses: Make sure fill and drain hose connections are tight at faucets and the washer. Ensure the end of the drain hose is correctly inserted and secured to the drain facility.

Clogged household drain: Check your household plumbing. You may need to call a plumber.

Constant pressure on hoses: Tighten hoses at the faucets and turn the water off after each use. Check the condition of fill hoses; they should be replaced every 5 years.

Kinked or improperly connected drain hose: Straighten the drain hose and make sure the washer is not sitting on it. The top of the drain outlet should be less than 8 ft (2.5 m) above the floor.

If your washer won’t start, check the following:

Washer is unplugged: Make sure the cord is plugged securely into a working outlet.

Water supply is off: Turn both hot and cold faucets fully on.

Controls are not set properly: Check the controls to ensure a cycle is selected.

Lid is open: The safety feature prevents agitation and spinning when the lid is open. Close the lid and restart the cycle.

Circuit breaker/fuse is tripped: Check your house circuit breakers/fuses. Replace fuses or reset the breaker. The washer should have a separate outlet.

Electronics need to be reset: Unplug the washer, wait 2 minutes, plug it back in, and press START.

START was not pressed: Press the START button.

This is caused by an incorrect spin cycle being selected. Make sure the spin cycle selected matches the load you are washing. Some fabrics will feel wetter when rinsed with cold water.

This could be due to two reasons:

Incorrect use of fabric softener: Check the fabric softener package for instructions and follow the directions for using the dispenser. Pretreat stains and rewash.

Dye transfer: Separate whites or lightly colored items from dark colors.

This can happen for several reasons:

Insufficient detergent: Use more detergent, especially with larger loads. Follow the detergent manufacturer’s directions.

Hard water: Use a water conditioner or install a water softener.

Water is not hot enough: Make sure your water heater is delivering water at 120°F – 140°F (48°C – 60°C).

Washer is overloaded: Select a load size based on the laundry load to avoid overcrowding.

Detergent is not dissolving: Add detergent as the basket is filling with water, before loading clothes.

Dye transfer: Sort clothes by color. If a fabric label states to wash separately, unstable dyes may be indicated.

Wrinkling can be caused by the following:

Improper sorting: Avoid mixing heavy items (like work clothes) with light items (like blouses). Try using a fabric softener.

Overloading or incorrect water level: Load the washer so clothes have enough room to move freely and the water covers all garments.

Incorrect wash and dry cycles: Match the cycle selection to the type of fabric you are washing, especially for easy-care loads.

Repeated washing in water that is too hot: Avoid using excessively hot water for fabrics prone to wrinkling.

If the dryer doesn’t start, check these possibilities:

Dryer is unplugged: Make sure the dryer plug is pushed completely into the outlet.

Fuse is blown/circuit breaker is tripped: Check the house fuse/circuit breaker box and replace the fuse or reset the breaker. Note that most electric dryers use 2 fuses/breakers.

If the dryer runs but does not heat, it could be one of the following issues:

Fuse is blown/breaker is tripped: Check the house fuse/circuit breaker box and replace both fuses or reset both breakers. The dryer may dry if only one fuse is blown or one breaker is tripped.

Gas service is off (for gas models): Make sure the main and dryer gas taps are completely open.

Lint on clothes can be caused by a few factors:

Lint filter is full: Clean the lint screen before each load.

Improper sorting: Sort lint producers (like chenille) from lint collectors (like corduroy).

Static electricity: Static can attract lint. Try using a fabric softener.

Overloading: Separate large loads into smaller ones.

Paper, tissue, etc. left in pockets: Empty all pockets before laundering clothes.

If drying times seem excessive, consider these causes:

Improper sorting: Separate heavy items from lightweight items. A well-sorted washer load is a well-sorted dryer load.

Large loads of heavy fabrics: Large, heavy fabrics contain more moisture. Separate them into smaller loads to speed up drying time.

Improperly set controls: Match the control settings to the load you are drying.

Lint filter is full: Clean the lint filter before each load.

Improper or obstructed ducting: Check installation instructions for proper ducting/venting. Make sure the ducting is clean, free of kinks, and unobstructed. Check that the outside wall damper operates easily.

To reduce wrinkling, check the following:

Overdrying: Select a shorter drying time. Remove items while they still hold a slight amount of moisture by selecting the LESS DRY or DAMP DRY setting.

Letting items sit in the dryer: Remove, fold, or hang items immediately after the cycle ends.

Overloading: Separate large loads into smaller ones.
