Ensure the parking brake will hold the tractor secure. Lower the attachment lift lever slowly to its lowest position.

5. INSTALL ANTI-SWAY BAR (IF EQUIPPED): From the right side of the mower, insert the 90° end of the anti-sway bar (S) into the hole in the transaxle bracket (T). Pivot the integrated washer end of the bar towards the mower deck bracket on the right side, insert it into the hole in the rear mower bracket (D), and secure with a small washer and small retainer spring.

6. ATTACH MOWER SIDE SUSPENSION ARMS TO CHASSIS: Position the front hole in the side suspension arm (A) over the pin on the outside of the tractor chassis and secure with a large washer and large retainer spring (B). Repeat on the opposite side.

7. ATTACH REAR LIFT LINKS: Insert the rod end of the rear lift link (C) into the hole (U) in the tractor lift shaft suspension arm. Lift the rear corner of the mower and position the slot in the link assembly over the pin on the rear mower bracket (D) and secure with a large washer and large retainer spring. Repeat on the opposite side.

8. ATTACH FRONT LINK: Turn the steering wheel to position wheels straight forward. From the front, insert the rod end of the front link (E) through the front hole in the tractor front suspension bracket (F). Secure it with the large retainer spring (G). Insert the other end of the link (E) into the hole in the front mower bracket (H) and secure with a washer and small retainer spring (J).

9. INSTALL BELT ON ENGINE CLUTCH PULLEY: Disengage the belt tension rod (K) from the locking bracket (L). Install the belt onto the engine clutch pulley (M). Engage the belt tension rod (K) back on the locking bracket (L). Check for proper belt routing in all pulley grooves.

TO ADJUST MOWER CUTTING HEIGHT

BLADE REMOVAL

1. Raise mower to the highest position to allow access to the blades.

3. Remove the blade bolt by turning it counterclockwise.

BLADE INSTALLATION

1. Install the new or resharpened blade with the stamped “GRASS SIDE” facing the ground.

2. IMPORTANT: To ensure proper assembly, the center hole in the blade must align with the star on the mandrel assembly.

3. Install and tighten the blade bolt securely (45-55 Ft. Lbs./ 62-75 Nm). The special blade bolt is heat treated.


How do I change the engine oil on my HUSQVARNA YTH24V54?

Change the oil after every 50 hours of operation or at least once a year if the tractor is not used for 50 hours in one year. Check the crankcase oil level before starting the engine and after each eight (8) hours of operation.

1. Be sure the tractor is on a level surface. Oil will drain more freely when warm. Catch oil in a suitable container.

2. Raise the hood. If needed, remove the lower dash cover.

3. Remove the oil fill cap/dipstick. Be careful not to allow dirt to enter the engine.

4. Remove the yellow cap from the end of the drain valve and install the drain tube onto the fitting.

5. Unlock the drain valve by pushing inward and turning counterclockwise. To open, pull out on the drain valve.

6. After the oil has drained completely, close and lock the drain valve by pushing inward and turning clockwise until the pin is in the locked position.

7. Remove the drain tube and replace the cap onto the bottom fitting of the drain valve.

8. Refill the engine with oil through the oil fill dipstick tube. Pour slowly and do not overfill. For approximate capacity, see the “PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS” section.

9. Use the gauge on the oil fill cap/dipstick for checking the level. Keep oil at the “FULL” line on the dipstick. Tighten the cap onto the tube securely when finished.

ENGINE OIL FILTER: Replace the engine oil filter every season or every other oil change if the tractor is used more than 100 hours in one year.


How do I use the deck washout port on my HUSQVARNA YTH24V54?

Your tractor’s deck is equipped with a washout port as part of its deck wash system. It should be utilized after each use.

1. Drive the tractor to a level, clear spot on your lawn, near enough to a water spigot for your garden hose to reach. Make certain the tractor’s discharge chute is directed AWAY from your house, garage, parked cars, etc. Remove the bagger chute or mulch cover if attached.

2. Make sure the attachment clutch control is in the “DISENGAGED” position, set the parking brake, and stop the engine.

3. Thread the nozzle adapter onto the end of your garden hose.

4. Pull back the lock collar of the nozzle adapter and push the adapter onto the deck washout port at the left end of the mower deck. Release the lock collar to lock the adapter on the nozzle. Tug the hose to ensure the connection is secure.

5. Turn the water on.

6. While sitting in the operator’s position on the tractor, re-start the engine and place the throttle lever in the Fast position.

7. Move the tractor’s attachment clutch control to the “ENGAGED” position. Remain in the operator’s position with the cutting deck engaged until the deck is cleaned.

8. Move the tractor’s attachment clutch control to the “DISENGAGED” position. Turn the ignition key to the STOP position to turn the tractor’s engine off. Turn the water off.

9. Pull back the lock collar of the nozzle adapter to disconnect the adapter from the nozzle washout port.

10. Move the tractor to a dry area. Place the attachment clutch control in the “ENGAGED” position to remove excess water and to help dry before putting the tractor away.

WARNING: A broken or missing washout fitting could expose you or others to thrown objects from contact with the blade. Replace a broken or missing washout fitting immediately, prior to using the mower again. Plug any holes in the mower with bolts and locknuts.


How do I remove the mower from my HUSQVARNA YTH24V54?

1. Place the attachment clutch in the “DISENGAGED” position.

2. Lower the attachment lift to its lowest position.

3. Disengage the belt tension rod (K) from the lock bracket (L). (CAUTION: Belt tension rod is spring loaded. Have a tight grip on the rod and release slowly.)

4. Remove the mower belt from the electric clutch pulley (M).

5. Disconnect the front link (E) from the mower.

6. Go to either side of the mower and disconnect the mower suspension arm (A) from the chassis and the rear lift link (C) from the rear mower bracket (D) – remove retainer springs and washers.

7. Go to the other side of the mower and disconnect the suspension arm and rear lift link.

8. From the right side of the mower, disconnect the anti-sway bar (S) from the right rear mower bracket (D) – remove the retainer spring and washer and pull the mower toward you until the bar falls from the hole in the bracket.

9. Turn the tractor steering wheel to the left as far as it will go.

10. Slide the mower out from under the right side of the tractor.


How do I replace the mower blade drive belt on my HUSQVARNA YTH24V54?

MOWER DRIVE BELT REMOVAL

1. Park the tractor on a level surface. Engage the parking brake.

2. Lower the attachment lift lever to its lowest position.

3. Disengage the belt tension rod (K) from the lock bracket (L). (CAUTION: Belt tension rod is spring loaded. Have a firm grip on the rod and release slowly.)

4. Remove screws (P) from mandrel covers (Q) and remove the covers.

5. Remove any dirt or grass clippings which may have accumulated around the mandrels and the entire upper deck surface.

6. Remove the belt from the electric clutch pulley (M), both mandrel pulleys (R) and all idler pulleys (V).

MOWER DRIVE BELT INSTALLATION

1. Install the new belt around all mandrel pulleys (R) and around the idler pulleys (V) as shown.

2. Install the belt onto the electric clutch pulley (M).

3. Reassemble the mandrel covers (Q). Securely tighten all screws.

4. Engage the belt tension rod (K) on the locking bracket (L).

5. Raise the attachment lift lever to the highest position.


How do I level the mower deck on my HUSQVARNA YTH24V54?

Ensure tires are properly inflated to the PSI shown on tires before leveling.

VISUAL SIDE-TO-SIDE ADJUSTMENT

If your lawn appears unevenly cut, determine which side of the mower is cutting lower. With a 3/4″ or adjustable wrench, turn the lift link adjustment nut (A) on that side to the left to lower the mower, or to the right to raise the mower. Each full turn changes the height by about 3/16″.

PRECISION SIDE-TO-SIDE ADJUSTMENT

1. With tires properly inflated, park the tractor on a level ground or driveway. Raise the mower to its highest position.

2. At both sides of the mower, position the blade at the side and measure the distance (A) from the bottom edge of the blade to the ground. The distance should be the same on both sides. If adjustment is necessary, use the Visual Adjustment instructions above.

FRONT-TO-BACK ADJUSTMENT

IMPORTANT: The deck must be level side-to-side. For best results, the front blade tip should be 1/8″ to 3/8″ lower than the rear tip when the mower is in its highest position.

1. Raise the mower to its highest position. Position any blade so the tip is pointing straight forward. Measure the distance (B) to the ground at the front and rear tip of the blade.

2. If adjustment is needed, go to the front of the tractor. With an 11/16″ or adjustable wrench, loosen jam nut A several turns to clear adjustment nut B.

3. With a 3/4″ or adjustable wrench, turn the front link adjustment nut (B) clockwise to raise the front of the mower, or counterclockwise to lower the front mower. Each full turn changes the height by about 1/8″.

4. Recheck measurements and adjust if necessary. Once correct, hold the adjustment nut in position and tighten the jam nut securely.


How do I replace the motion drive belt on my HUSQVARNA YTH24V54?

Park the tractor on a level surface and engage the parking brake. There is a belt installation guide decal on the bottom side of the left footrest for assistance.

BELT REMOVAL

1. Remove the mower.

2. Disconnect the clutch wire harness (A).

3. Remove the anti-rotation link (B) on the right side of the tractor.

4. Remove the belt from the stationary idler (C) and clutching idler (D).

5. Remove the belt from the centerspan idler (E).

6. Pull the belt slack toward the rear of the tractor. Carefully remove the belt upwards from the transmission input pulley and over the cooling fan blades (F).

7. Remove the belt downward from the engine pulley and around the electric clutch (G).

8. Slide the belt toward the rear of the tractor, off the steering plate (H) and remove from the tractor.

BELT INSTALLATION

1. Install the new belt from the tractor rear to the front, over the steering plate (H) and above the clutch brake pedal shaft (J).

2. Pull the belt toward the front of the tractor and roll the belt around the electric clutch and onto the engine pulley (G).

3. Pull the belt toward the rear of the tractor. Carefully work the belt down around the transmission cooling fan and onto the input pulley (F). Be sure the belt is inside the belt keeper.

4. Install the belt on the centerspan idler (E).

5. Install the belt through the stationary idler (C) and clutching idler (D).

6. Reinstall the anti-rotation link (B) on the right side of the tractor. Tighten securely.

7. Reconnect the clutch harness (A).

8. Ensure the belt is in all pulley grooves and inside all belt guides and keepers.

9. Install the mower.


How can I start my HUSQVARNA YTH24V54 with a weak battery?

WARNING: Lead-acid batteries generate explosive gases. Keep sparks, flame and smoking materials away from batteries. Always wear eye protection when around batteries.

If “jumper cables” are used for emergency starting, follow this procedure. Your tractor is equipped with a 12 VOLT system. The other vehicle must also be a 12 VOLT system.

TO ATTACH JUMPER CABLES

1. Connect one end of the RED cable to the POSITIVE (+) terminal of each battery (A-B), taking care not to short against the tractor chassis.

2. Connect one end of the BLACK cable to the NEGATIVE (-) terminal (C) of the fully charged battery.

3. Connect the other end of the BLACK cable (D) to a good chassis ground, away from the fuel tank and battery.

TO REMOVE CABLES, REVERSE ORDER

1. Remove the BLACK cable first from the chassis and then from the fully charged battery.

2. Remove the RED cable last from both batteries.


How should I store my HUSQVARNA YTH24V54?

Prepare your tractor for storage at the end of the season or if it will not be used for 30 days or more.

TRACTOR

• Clean the entire tractor.

• Inspect and replace belts, if necessary.

• Lubricate as shown in the Maintenance section.

• Be sure that all nuts, bolts and screws are securely fastened. Inspect moving parts for damage, breakage and wear. Replace if necessary.

• Touch up all rusted or chipped paint surfaces; sand lightly before painting.

BATTERY

• Fully charge the battery for storage. After a period of time, it may require recharging.

• Disconnect battery cables and clean the battery thoroughly to prevent corrosion and power leakage.

• If the battery is removed, do not store it directly on concrete or damp surfaces.

ENGINE – FUEL SYSTEM

• Empty the fuel tank by starting the engine and letting it run until the fuel lines and carburetor are empty.

• Alternatively, use a fuel stabilizer. Add stabilizer to gasoline in the fuel tank or storage container. Run the engine for at least 10 minutes after adding stabilizer to allow it to reach the carburetor. Do not empty the gas tank and carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.

ENGINE – ENGINE OIL

• Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace with clean engine oil.

ENGINE – CYLINDER(S)

• Remove spark plug(s).

• Pour one ounce (29.5 mL) of oil through the spark plug hole(s) into the cylinder(s).

• Turn the ignition key to the “START” position for a few seconds to distribute the oil.

• Replace with new spark plug(s).

OTHER

• Do not store gasoline from one season to another.

• If possible, store your tractor indoors and cover it with a suitable protective cover that does not retain moisture. Do not use plastic.

IMPORTANT: NEVER COVER THE TRACTOR WHILE THE ENGINE AND EXHAUST AREAS ARE STILL WARM.
