Please observe the following safety warnings when using your HAIER BD-280GAA chest freezer:

WARNING: Keep ventilation openings, in the appliance enclosure or in the built-in structure, clear of obstruction.

WARNING: Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process other than those recommended by the manufacturer.

WARNING: Do not damage the refrigerant circuit.

WARNING: Do not use electrical appliances inside the food storage compartment of the appliance, unless they are of the type recommended by the manufacturer.

Additionally, if the power cable is damaged, an approved cable provided by a manufacturer or a service agent must be used for replacement. After installation, the plug should be easily accessible.

If you have bought your new HAIER BD-280GAA in exchange for an old refrigerator/freezer, it is essential to destroy any existing latch or bolt locks on the old appliance before you put it aside. This will prevent children from locking themselves in.

Please have the old appliance ecologically disposed of by a company specialized in environmental protections, as the appliance may contain harmful components in the coolant which have to be removed with special equipment.

For proper installation of your HAIER BD-280GAA, follow these guidelines:

1. Place your appliance in a cool, well-aired, dry room. Strictly avoid high ambient temperatures and direct sunlight.

2. Avoid installing the freezer near a heat source like a heater or oven. If installation near a heat source is unavoidable, a suitable insulation plate must be fitted between the appliance and the heat source. Observe the following minimum distances:

– from gas or electric cooker: 3 cm

– from radiator or oven: 5 cm

– from a wall, piece of furniture or another appliance: 2 cm

3. Never obstruct the ventilation grille. If your freezer has a ventilation grille (F), it can be placed directly against a wall or furniture, but not with the side protected with the ventilation grille.

4. For freezers without a ventilation grille, leave sufficient space between the rear of the appliance and the wall to ensure outward flow of warm air can escape.

5. The appliance must be placed horizontally on a level base to ensure an unimpeded circuit of the refrigerant and optimum function.

IMPORTANT: Leave the HAIER BD-280GAA standing in its final position for at least 2 hours before switching it on. This allows the refrigerant circuit to stabilize and prevents operating problems.

After this waiting period, thoroughly clean the interior compartment with a mixture of lukewarm water and vinegar to remove the typical new appliance odour. Do not use washing liquids, sharp or granular cleaning implements, or any cleaning products containing soda. Before connecting the appliance, ensure the inner area, especially the corners, is absolutely dry.

The temperature control (thermostat) on your HAIER BD-280GAA switches the appliance on and off and sets the cooling temperature. The control is intentionally resistant to turning to prevent accidental changes. To vary the setting, it is recommended to use a coin or a screwdriver.

The temperature is adjustable between:

Min. / minimum number: for slight cooling.

Max. / maximum number: for the lowest temperature.

Temperature settings should be adjusted according to the ambient temperature, the quantity of stored food, and the frequency of opening. A medium setting is recommended to start.

The compressor will stop when the control panel marking is on position “0” or “OFF” (not all models have this function).

The indicator lights on your HAIER BD-280GAA provide important information about its status:

Green Light (CONTROL): Indicates the appliance is connected to the power supply and is operating. The green light must always be on when the appliance is plugged in and switched on. It is very important to pay attention to this, as in a power failure, the red and yellow lights stop operating and no longer provide a warning.

Red Light (ALARM): Indicates the interior temperature is too high. The red light may come on during:

– First start-up of the appliance.

– Restart after defrosting.

– Filling the freezer with fresh food.

In these cases, the red light is normal and will go off automatically when the interior temperature reaches approximately -15°C. You can switch on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (if equipped) to speed this up. If the red light stays on for more than 12 to 24 hours, there may be a serious problem.

Yellow Light (SUPER FREEZE): Indicates the SUPER FREEZE function is on and the thermostat function is disabled. The compressor will continue cooling until the SUPER FREEZE switch is turned off.

If your HAIER BD-280GAA is equipped with a warning buzzer, it will sound when the red indicator light (ALARM) goes on, signaling that the internal temperature is too high. The buzzer is silenced automatically when you turn on the SUPER FREEZER SWITCH.

Follow these steps to correctly start up your HAIER BD-280GAA:

1. Fully unpack the appliance.

2. Remove any polystyrene parts from the compressor chamber (if supplied).

3. Remove documents and accessories from inside the appliance.

4. Clean the interior with lukewarm water and vinegar, then dry thoroughly.

5. Close the appliance lid.

6. Insert the plug into the socket.

7. Switch on the appliance by turning the temperature control to the right, to the “Max” position for now. The green and red lights will go on.

8. If equipped with a SUPER FREEZE SWITCH, turn it on. The yellow light will also go on.

9. Do not open the appliance for about 4 hours, or until the red light turns off, to allow the internal temperature to drop.

10. You can now fill the appliance with deep-frozen food.

11. Turn off the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH after 24 hours at the latest.

12. If you wish to freeze fresh, unfrozen food, proceed as per the instructions for freezing.

Follow these steps to properly freeze fresh food in your HAIER BD-280GAA:

a) Place fresh foods in the pre-freezing compartment at the side (I) (if equipped) or on the bottom of the freezer, which is the coldest part. Avoid putting fresh foods in direct contact with already frozen food.

b) Only fill quantities of fresh food suitable for the freezing capacity of your appliance (see rating plate for XX kg/24h) within a 24-hour period.

c) If available, switch on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (FIG.4).

d) After 24 hours, shift the now deep-frozen goods from the freezer bottom or pre-freeze shelf to a hanging basket (K). This makes the bottom/shelf available for freezing more fresh food.

e) Turn off the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (the yellow light will go off).

f) Set the temperature control according to the filling capacity.

g) Keep the storage temperature at -18°C or colder. You can monitor this by placing a thermometer inside.

Refilling: Make sure you refill fresh food earliest 24 hours after the previous filling, and do not exceed the maximum stacking height.

To save energy when operating your HAIER BD-280GAA in normal ambient temperatures (+18 to +22°C), set the temperature control strictly according to the filling capacity. Never fill the storage shelf (E) up to the edge; always allow space between the lid and the frozen foods.

Please follow this advice for the best performance of your HAIER BD-280GAA:

• Whenever cleaning or defrosting, remove the power plug.

• After closing the freezer lid, do not open it immediately or force it open. A vacuum is created, which will release after 1 to 2 minutes, allowing the lid to be opened normally.

• To prevent condensation and ice forming, allow cooked food to cool to ambient temperature before storage.

• Leave the freezer lid open as briefly as possible to save energy and prevent excessive ice formation.

• If the red indicator light stays on for a long period, do not open the lid and take appropriate troubleshooting measures.

• Do not use a screwdriver or other sharp metal objects to remove ice. Use only plastic or wooden scrapers.

• Do not store bottles containing liquids. Liquid expands when frozen and the bottle can explode.

• Never keep containers with explosive substances (gas lighters, petrol, ether, etc.) in the freezer.

• Eat deep-frozen ice cream and ice lollies only a few minutes after taking them from the freezer to avoid injury to lips and tongue (danger of skin detachment).

• Avoid touching the inner walls with wet hands.

For upkeep of your HAIER BD-280GAA:

Exterior: Occasionally clean with furniture polish or other enamel protecting product. Never use it on the inside.

Seal (B): Clean the seal now and again with warm water, without using any cleaning product.

Condenser (R): If your appliance has a condenser in the rear, remove dirt and dust from time to time with a light brush or duster. Dust and dirt impede heat release and increase energy consumption.

Long-term absence: If you leave the appliance out of use for an extended period (e.g., holidays), leave it open to prevent odours from building up inside. For appliances with locks, when the chest lid is open, set the lock in the “closed” position and keep the key away from small children.

Ice Removal: Ice and frost layers on the inner walls act as insulation. They must be removed from time to time. To remove ice, use a plastic or wood scraper. Cover the frozen food with a cloth to help collect the scraped ice.

Under normal conditions (3 to 4 openings per day), your HAIER BD-280GAA should be defrosted once or twice a year.

Danger Warning: Never use electrical appliances like hair dryers, fan heaters, or devices with a naked flame (e.g., candles) to defrost the chest freezer. Plastic can melt and escaping gas can be ignited.

Proceed as follows:

1. Provide a suitable non-metallic container (e.g., plastic container or wash-basket).

2. Make absolutely sure you remove the plug from the power socket.

3. Dry your hands thoroughly to prevent skin damage from contact with ice (use gloves if possible).

4. Remove all frozen food, roll it firmly in newspaper, place it in the container, and put the container in a cool, dry room.

5. Cover the container with a thick blanket.

6. Lift the divider (H) (if equipped) out of its guide rail.

7. Use the divider as a defrosting dish and push it under the freezer where the defrosting water drain-plug is located.

8. Pull the drain-plug (if provided) out of the freezer bottom.

9. Scrape the thickest ice carefully from the freezer inside and put it into the kitchen sink.

10. To speed up defrosting, you can place a large pot of warm (not too hot) water on the freezer bottom.

11. In freezers without a drain-plug, continuously wipe up the water with a sponge.

12. Thoroughly clean the inside compartment. Rinse it with a mixture of warm water and vinegar, then rinse with clear water.

13. Wipe the freezer dry with an absorbent cloth and allow it to air for 3 to 4 minutes.

14. Replace the drain-plug (if provided).

15. Empty the defrosting water dish and slide it back as a divider into the guide rails.

16. Close the chest and plug it back into the socket.

17. Set the temperature control to the maximum setting (green and red lamps go on) and switch on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (if provided) (yellow lamp also lights up).

18. Now refill the frozen food, placing the oldest items at the top. This entire process (steps 1-17) should be completed within a maximum of two hours to prevent food from defrosting.

19. When the red lamp goes off, reset the temperature control to a setting suitable for the filling capacity.

20. Switch off the SUPER FREEZER SWITCH (if provided) after about 8 to 12 hours, or at the latest after 24 hours (the yellow light will go off).

The compressor (motor) in your HAIER BD-280GAA does not operate continuously. It is controlled by the thermostat and switches on automatically when the set temperature is exceeded, and switches off when the correct temperature is reached.

Noise can be heard in every compressor-cooling system when it is switched on. This noise is produced when the motor in the compressor operates and also by refrigerant flowing in the cooling system circuit. These noises are normal and do not indicate any functional trouble.

In unheated rooms and in cold weather, condensation can build up on the outer walls of the appliance. This does not mean trouble and disappears when the weather becomes warmer.

If your HAIER BD-280GAA stops working, first note that in the event of a power failure, the insulation of the appliance walls provides 10 to 12 hours of storage time for the frozen food. If it takes longer to eliminate a problem, the food will begin to defrost.

If there is no function, check the following possible causes:

• Did the appliance stand for at least 2 hours before switching it on? If not, the refrigerant flow-circuit may not be stable. Unplug the appliance, wait, and then plug it back in. Do not open the chest for a further 12 hours, or until the red light goes off.

• Is the plug in good condition and properly plugged into the socket?

• Is the socket under current? Test the socket by connecting a small appliance, such as a hand-mixer.

If you are experiencing any of these issues with your HAIER BD-280GAA, check the following possible causes and remedies:

• The lid of the appliance does not close properly. The seal does not firmly press. Test this by placing a piece of writing paper between the seal and the edge of the chest and closing the lid. It should be difficult to pull the paper out from any side. If you can pull the paper out without resistance from one or more sides, you should contact after-sales service.

• Heavy ice formation on the inner walls. This acts as insulation and prevents proper cooling. The freezer needs to be defrosted.

• The appliance is exposed to direct sunlight or is installed near a heat source (oven, radiator, etc.). Protect the appliance from direct sunlight, check the distance to the heat source, and if necessary, place an isolating plate between them.

• The amount of food being frozen exceeds the freezer’s capacity, or you filled it with food that was too warm. Check the freezing capacity on the rating plate (XXkg/24h) and ensure you are not exceeding it.

The storage time for purchased deep-frozen products varies and depends on the type of product and its packaging. Therefore, strictly observe the producer’s instructions on the packaging. For fresh food that you freeze yourself, use the following table as a guide. After being defrosted, food must be consumed immediately, but at the latest within the next 24 hours.
