To ensure optimal performance for your HAIER BD-518A, follow these installation guidelines:

Location: Place the appliance in a cool, well-aired, dry room. Strictly avoid high ambient temperatures and direct sunlight.

Heat Sources: Installation near a heat source like a heater or oven is highly inappropriate as it increases power consumption. If installation near a heat source is unavoidable, fit a suitable insulation plate between them and observe the following minimum distances:

• From a gas or electric cooker: 3 cm

• From a radiator or oven: 5 cm

• From a wall, piece of furniture, or another appliance: 2 cm

Ventilation: Never obstruct the ventilation grille. If your freezer has a ventilation grille on one side, it can be placed directly against a wall or furniture, but not on the side with the grille. For models without a ventilation grille, leave sufficient space between the rear of the appliance and the wall for warm air to escape.

Positioning: The appliance must be placed horizontally on a level base to ensure an unimpeded refrigerant circuit and optimum function.

Before you start using your HAIER BD-518A, please follow these steps:

1. Let it settle: After placing the appliance in its final position, leave it standing for at least 2 hours before switching it on. This allows the refrigerant circuit to stabilise and prevents operating problems.

2. Clean the interior: Thoroughly clean the inside of the freezer to remove any odours typical of new appliances. Use a mixture of lukewarm water and vinegar. Do not use washing liquids, sharp or granular cleaning implements, or any cleaning products containing soda.

3. Ensure it is dry: Before connecting the appliance to the power supply, make sure the inner area, especially the corners, is absolutely dry.

Follow these steps for the initial start-up of your HAIER BD-518A:

1. Fully unpack the appliance.

2. Remove any polystyrene parts from the compressor chamber (if supplied).

3. Remove all documents and accessories from inside the appliance.

4. Clean the interior with a mixture of lukewarm water and vinegar, then dry it thoroughly with a cloth.

5. Close the appliance lid.

6. Insert the plug into the power socket.

11. Turn off the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH after 24 hours at the latest.

12. If you wish to freeze fresh, unfrozen food, refer to the instructions on freezing fresh food.

The temperature control on your HAIER BD-518A switches the appliance on and off and sets the cooling temperature. The control is intentionally resistant to turning to prevent accidental changes; it is recommended to use a coin or a screwdriver to adjust the setting.

• The compressor stops when the control panel marking is on position “0” or “OFF”.

• The temperature is adjustable between “Min” (slight cooling) and “Max” (lowest temperature).

• A medium setting is recommended for general use. You should adjust the setting based on the ambient temperature, the quantity of food stored, and how often the lid is opened.

The indicator lights on your HAIER BD-518A provide important information about its status:

• GREEN (CONTROL): This light indicates that the appliance is connected to power and is operating. The green light must always be on. It is an important indicator of power supply, as the other lights will not function during a power failure.

• RED (ALARM): This light indicates that the interior temperature is too high. The SUPER FREEZE function on the HAIER BD-518A is designed for rapid freezing. When you turn on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (indicated by the yellow light), the thermostat is bypassed, and the compressor runs continuously. This quickly lowers the temperature inside the freezer.

To properly freeze fresh food in your HAIER BD-518A, follow these steps:

1. Portion and Pack: Pack fresh products in portions suitable for your household. Label the portions clearly with the product name, weight, quantity, freezing date, and use-by date.

2. Activate Super Freeze: If available, switch on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH. This is recommended when adding fresh food.

3. Placement: Place the fresh food in the pre-freezing compartment (if equipped) or on the bottom of the freezer, which is the coldest part. Avoid placing fresh food in direct contact with already frozen food to prevent the latter from defrosting.

4. Capacity: Do not exceed the freezing capacity of your appliance, which is listed on the rating plate (in kg/24h).

5. Wait 24 Hours: After 24 hours, the fresh food should be deep-frozen. You can then move it from the bottom or pre-freeze shelf into a hanging basket to make space for more fresh food.

6. Deactivate Super Freeze: Turn off the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (the yellow light will go off).

7. Reset Temperature: Set the temperature control to a setting appropriate for the amount of food stored in the freezer.

Ensure you wait at least 24 hours after the previous filling before adding more fresh food.

Please follow these important guidelines for safe and effective food storage in your HAIER BD-518A:

• Stacking Height: To ensure correct storage, never fill the storage area up to the edge. Always allow space between the lid and the frozen foods for proper air circulation.

• Temperature Control: Set the temperature control according to the filling capacity. To save energy in normal ambient temperatures (+18°C to +22°C), you can use the following settings:

• Prohibited Items:

– Do not store any bottles containing liquids. Liquid expands when frozen, and the bottle can explode.

– Never keep containers with explosive substances (e.g., gas lighters, petrol, ether) in the freezer compartment.

• Frozen Products:

– When storing ready-frozen food, always observe the manufacturer’s instructions on the packaging.

– Deep-frozen ice cream and ice lollies should be eaten only a few minutes after being taken from the freezer to avoid injury to lips and tongue (danger of skin detachment).

– For the same reason, avoid touching the inner walls with wet hands.

• Defrosted Food: Food that has been defrosted must be consumed immediately, or within the next 24 hours. As a rule, such products are not suitable for re-freezing.

The following table provides approximate storage times for various foods when frozen and stored in your HAIER BD-518A. For purchased deep-frozen products, always follow the producer’s instructions on the packaging.

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure your HAIER BD-518A functions correctly.

• Exterior: For the external appearance, occasionally clean with furniture polish or another enamel protecting product. Never use these products on the inside.

• Lid Seal: Clean the seal with warm water now and again. Do not use any cleaning products on it.

• Condenser: If your appliance has a condenser in the rear, remove dirt and dust from time to time with a light brush or duster. Dust impedes the release of heat and increases energy consumption.

• Long-Term Absence: If you leave your appliance out of use for an extended period (e.g., holidays), leave it open to prevent odours from building up inside. If it has a lock, set it to the “closed” position while the lid is open and keep the key away from small children.

Proceed as follows:

1. Prepare a suitable non-metallic container (e.g., plastic container or wash-basket).

2. Make absolutely sure that you remove the plug from the power socket.

3. Dry your hands thoroughly to prevent skin damage from contact with ice (use gloves).

4. Remove all frozen food, roll it firmly in newspaper, and place it in the container in a cool, dry room.

5. Cover the container all around with a thick blanket.

6. Lift the divider (if equipped) out of its guide rail.

7. If a defrosting water drain-plug is present, use the divider as a defrosting dish and place it under the drain.

8. Pull the plug (if provided) out of the freezer bottom.

9. Scrape the thickest ice carefully from the inside and put it in the kitchen sink.

10. To speed up defrosting, you can place a large pot of warm (not too hot) water on the freezer bottom.

11. If your freezer does not have a drain-plug, continuously wipe up the melted water with a sponge.

12. Thoroughly clean the inside with a mixture of warm water and vinegar, then rinse with clear water.

13. Wipe the freezer completely dry with an absorbent cloth and allow it to air for 3 to 4 minutes.

14. Replace the drain-plug (if provided).

15. Empty the defrosting dish and slide the divider back into its guide rails.

16. Close the chest lid and plug the freezer back into the socket.

17. Set the temperature control to the maximum setting and switch on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (if provided). The green, red, and (if applicable) yellow lamps will light up.

18. Refill the frozen food, placing the oldest items at the top. This entire process (steps 1-17) should be completed within a maximum of two hours to prevent food from defrosting.

19. When the red lamp goes off, reset the temperature control to a suitable setting for the filling capacity.

20. Switch off the SUPER FREEZER SWITCH after about 8 to 12 hours, or at the latest after 24 hours.

If your HAIER BD-518A is not cooling sufficiently, the freezing process is too long, or the compressor is operating too often, check the following possible causes and remedies:

• Stabilisation Time: Did the appliance stand for at least 2 hours before being switched on? If not, unplug it, lift the chest for a moment and put it back down. Plug it in after 2 hours and do not open it for a further 12 hours, or until the red light goes off.

• Power Connection: Check if the plug is in good condition and properly plugged into the socket. Also, verify that the socket has power by testing it with another small appliance.

• Lid Seal: The lid of the appliance may not be closing properly, or the seal is not firm. Test this by placing a piece of writing paper between the seal and the chest edge and closing the lid. It should be difficult to pull the paper out from any side. If it pulls out easily, contact after-sales service.

• Ice Formation: Heavy ice formation on the inner walls can reduce cooling efficiency. The freezer needs to be defrosted.

• Location: The appliance may be exposed to direct sunlight or installed too close to a heat source (oven, radiator). Protect it from heat sources and check the installation distances.

• Overfilling: You may have filled the freezer with too much warm food, or the amount of food exceeds the freezing capacity listed on the rating plate.
