Please observe the following warnings for your HAIER BD-100GB chest freezer:

• Keep ventilation openings, in the appliance enclosure or in the built-in structure, clear of obstruction.

• Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process other than those recommended by the manufacturer.

• Do not damage the refrigerant circuit.

• Do not use electrical appliances inside the food storage compartment of the appliance, unless they are of the type recommended by the manufacturer.

• If the power cable is damaged, an approved cable provided by a manufacturer or a service agent must be used for replacement.

• After installation of the appliance, the plug should be easily accessible.

If you have bought your new HAIER BD-100GB in exchange for an old refrigerator/freezer, it is essential to destroy any existing latch- or bolt-locks on the old appliance before you put it aside. This is to prevent playing children from locking themselves in.

Please have the old appliance ecologically disposed of by a company specialized in environmental protections, as the appliance may contain harmful components in the coolant which have to be sucked off with special equipment.

For proper installation of your HAIER BD-100GB, please follow these guidelines:

• Place your appliance in a cool, well-aired, dry room. Strictly avoid high ambient temperatures and direct sunlight.

• Avoid installing the freezer near a heat source like a heater or oven, as this increases power consumption.

• If installation near a heat source is unavoidable, a suitable insulation plate must be fitted, and the following minimum distances must be observed:

– From a gas or electric cooker: 3 cm

– From a radiator or oven: 5 cm

– From a wall, piece of furniture, or another appliance: 2 cm

• Never obstruct the ventilation grille (F), if your model is equipped with one.

• For freezers without a ventilation grille, leave sufficient space between the rear of the appliance and the wall to allow warm air to escape.

• The appliance must be placed horizontally and on a level base to ensure proper function.

IMPORTANT: Leave the appliance to stand in its final position for at least 2 hours before switching it on. This allows the refrigerant circuit to stabilize and prevents operating problems.

To remove the typical odor of a new appliance, thoroughly clean the interior compartment with a mixture of lukewarm water and vinegar. Do not use washing liquids, sharp or granular cleaning implements, or any cleaning products containing soda. Before connecting the appliance, ensure the inner area, especially the corners, is absolutely dry.

The refrigerant in your HAIER BD-100GB is easily inflammable. The refrigerant circuit is hermetically sealed. An improper intervention can cause an acute fire hazard. Omit any mechanical influence on the cooling system, especially on accessible parts like the condenser, compressor, capillary tube, and drying filter.

Interventions on the cooling system must be carried out by professional and authorized personnel only.

IMPORTANT! Escaping refrigerant can injure your eyes. In the event of eye contact with the refrigerant, wash your eyes instantly under plenty of running water and call/consult an eye specialist immediately.

The temperature control (thermostat) switches the appliance on and off and sets the cooling temperature. The control is intentionally resistant to turning to prevent accidental changes. To adjust the setting, it is recommended to use a coin or a screwdriver.

The temperature is adjustable between:

• Min. / minimum number: for slight cooling.

• Max. / maximum number: for the lowest temperature.

Temperature settings should be adjusted according to the ambient temperature, the quantity of stored food, and the frequency of opening. A medium setting is recommended to start.

If your HAIER BD-100GB is equipped with indicator lights, they signify the following:

• GREEN (CONTROL): The appliance is connected to power and is operating. The green light must always be on when the appliance is switched on.

• RED (ALARM): The interior temperature is too high. This is normal during the first start-up, after defrosting, or when filling the freezer with fresh food. It should go off automatically when the temperature reaches approximately -15°C. If the red light stays on for more than 12 to 24 hours, there may be a serious problem.

• YELLOW (SUPER FREEZE): This light indicates that the SUPER FREEZE switch is on and the thermostat function is disabled. The compressor will continue cooling until the switch is turned off.

Follow these steps to start your HAIER BD-100GB for the first time:

1. Fully unpack the appliance.

2. Remove any polystyrene parts from the compressor chamber (if supplied).

3. Remove documents and accessories from inside the appliance.

4. Clean the interior with a mixture of lukewarm water and vinegar, then dry thoroughly.

5. Close the appliance lid.

6. Insert the plug into the socket.

7. Switch on the appliance by turning the temperature control to the Max position. The green and red lights will go on.

8. If equipped, turn on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH. The yellow light will also go on.

9. Do not open the appliance for about 4 hours, or until the red light turns off, to allow the interior to cool down.

10. You can now fill the appliance with deep frozen food.

11. Turn off the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH after 24 hours at the latest.

12. To freeze fresh food, proceed to the “Freezing/storage of fresh food” chapter.

Follow these steps for freezing fresh food:

a) Place fresh foods in the pre-freezing compartment at the side (I) or on the bottom of the freezer, which is the coldest part. Avoid placing fresh food in direct contact with already frozen food.

b) Only fill quantities of fresh food suitable for the freezing capacity of your appliance within 24 hours (see rating plate for XX kg/24h).

c) If available, switch on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (FIG.4).

d) After 24 hours, move the newly deep-frozen goods to a hanging basket (K) to make space for more fresh food.

e) Turn off the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (yellow light goes off).

f) Set the temperature control according to the filling capacity.

g) Keep the storage temperature at -18°C or colder. Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature.

Also, remember to label the portions with the product name, weight, quantity, freezing date, and use-by date.

To save energy when operating in a normal ambient temperature of +18°C to +22°C, the following settings are recommended for the temperature control:

• Always remove the power plug before cleaning or defrosting.

• After closing the freezer lid, do not try to force it open immediately. A vacuum seal needs 1 to 2 minutes to release, after which the lid can be opened normally.

• To prevent condensation and ice, allow cooked food to cool to ambient temperature before placing it in the freezer.

• Leave the freezer lid open as briefly as possible to save energy and prevent excessive ice formation.

• Do not use a screwdriver or other sharp metal objects to remove ice. The interior walls are delicate. Use only plastic or wooden scrapers.

• Exterior: Clean with furniture polish or an enamel protecting product. Never use these products on the inside.

• Seal (B): Clean the seal now and again with warm water. Do not use any cleaning products.

• Condenser (R): If your appliance has a condenser in the rear, remove dirt and dust from time to time with a light brush or duster. Dust and dirt impede heat release and increase energy consumption.

• Ice Removal: When ice and frost layers form on the inner walls, they act as an insulator. They must be removed from time to time. Use a plastic or wood scraper without sharp edges.

Danger Warning: Never use electrical appliances like a hair dryer or devices with a naked flame (e.g., candles) to defrost the chest freezer.

Proceed as follows:

1. Provide a suitable non-metallic container (e.g., plastic container or wash-basket).

2. Make absolutely sure that you remove the plug from the power socket.

3. Dry your hands thoroughly to prevent skin damage from contact with ice (use gloves).

4. Remove all frozen food, roll it firmly in newspaper, and place it in the container in a cool, dry room.

5. Cover the container with a thick blanket.

6. Lift the divider (H) (if equipped) out of its guide-rail.

7. Use the divider as a defrosting dish under the freezer’s defrosting water drain-plug location.

8. Pull the drain plug (if provided) out of the freezer bottom.

9. Scrape the thickest ice carefully from the inside and put it in the kitchen sink.

10. To speed up defrosting, you can place a large pot of warm (not too hot) water on the freezer bottom.

11. If there is no drain-plug, continuously wipe up the water with a sponge.

12. Thoroughly clean the inside with a mixture of warm water and vinegar, then rinse with clear water.

13. Wipe the freezer dry with an absorbent cloth and allow it to air for 3 to 4 minutes.

14. Replace the drain-plug (if provided).

15. Empty the defrosting water dish and slide it back as a divider.

16. Close the chest lid and plug it back into the socket.

17. Set the temperature control to the maximum setting and switch on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (if provided).

18. Refill the frozen food, placing the oldest items at the top.

19. When the red lamp goes off, reset the temperature control to a suitable setting for the filling capacity.

20. Switch off the SUPER FREEZER SWITCH (if provided) after about 8 to 12 hours, or latest after 24 hours.

The compressor (motor) should not operate continuously. It is controlled by the thermostat and switches on automatically when the set temperature is exceeded, and switches off when the correct temperature is reached.

Noise is normal in every compressor-cooling system. This noise is produced when the motor operates and also by the refrigerant flowing in the cooling system circuit. These noises are normal and do not indicate any functional trouble.

If your HAIER BD-100GB has no function (appliance not running), first note that the insulation provides 10 to 12 hours of storage time during a power failure. If a problem takes longer to fix, move frozen food to another freezer if possible.

Check the following possible causes:

• Is the plug in good condition and properly plugged into the socket?

• Is the socket under current? Test it by connecting a small appliance like a hand-mixer.

If your HAIER BD-100GB isn’t cooling sufficiently, the freezing process is too long, or the compressor operates too often, check these possible causes and remedies:

• Initial Setup: Did the appliance stand for at least 2 hours before being switched on to allow the refrigerant to stabilize? If not, unplug it, wait a few moments, and then plug it back in. Do not open the chest for another 12 hours, or until the red light goes off.

• Lid Seal: The lid may not be closing properly. Place a piece of paper between the seal and the chest edge and close the lid. It should be difficult to pull the paper out from any side. If it pulls out easily, contact after-sales service.

• Ice Formation: Heavy ice formation on the inner walls can hinder cooling. Defrost the appliance.

• Heat Source: Is the appliance exposed to direct sunlight or installed near a heat source (oven, radiator)? Protect it from direct sunlight and check the distance to the heat source.

• Overfilling: Did you fill the freezer with too much warm food at once? The amount of food should not exceed the freezing capacity on the rating plate (XXkg/24h).
