What are the important safety instructions for the AIWA VPX-1951?

5. Do not use this apparatus near water.
6. Clean only with dry cloth.
7. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
8. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
10. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
11. Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
12. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.

Where should I install the AIWA VPX-1951?
Place the unit on a level surface.
Do not place anything on top of the VCR.
Do not expose the unit to direct sunlight or to sources of heat (stoves, etc.).
Provide 10 cm of space on both sides and at the rear for ventilation.
Do not place the unit on a soft surface, such as a rug, which might block the ventilation holes on the bottom.
How do I connect the AIWA VPX-1951 to a television?
Connection with the supplied RF cable
1. Disconnect the antenna cable from your television and connect it to the ANT. IN socket on the rear of the VCR.
2. Connect one end of the supplied RF cable to the ANT. OUT socket on the rear of the VCR. Connect the other end to the antenna input socket on your television.
3. Set the TV/VCR switch to VCR.
4. Connect the mains cord to the wall outlet.
5. Turn on the television and search for the VCR test signal (a blue screen). On most televisions this will be on channel 36. Refer to your television owner’s manual for details on how to tune in a channel.
Connection with an optional SCART cable (not supplied)
1. Connect the SCART cable between the AV socket on the rear of the VCR and a SCART socket on your television. If your television has more than one SCART socket, refer to the television owner’s manual for which one to use.
2. Connect the mains cord to the wall outlet.
3. Set your television to the AV input that the VCR is connected to. Refer to your television owner’s manual for details.
4. If you have connected the VCR using a SCART cable, it is not necessary to connect the RF cable unless you wish to watch a different television channel while recording another.
How do I power on and off the AIWA VPX-1951?
Press the POWER button on the front of the VCR to turn the power on or off.
When the VCR is turned on, the power indicator lights up.
How do I insert and eject a cassette on the AIWA VPX-1951?
Insertion
Insert a video cassette with the window facing up and the arrow on the front of the cassette pointing towards the VCR. The VCR will automatically turn on and load the cassette.
Ejection
Press the EJECT button to eject the cassette. After 5 minutes in stop mode with a cassette inserted, the VCR will automatically turn off to protect the tape and video heads.
How do I use the playback functions on the AIWA VPX-1951?
Playback:
Press the PLAY button to start playback.
Still Picture:
Press the PAUSE button during playback for a still picture. Press PLAY to resume normal playback. After 5 minutes in still mode, the VCR will automatically enter stop mode to protect the tape and video heads.
Picture Search:
Press the REW button during playback for picture search in reverse. Press the FF button during playback for picture search forwards. Press PLAY to resume normal playback.
Fast Forward and Rewind:
Press the FF or REW button from stop mode. To stop, press the STOP button. The VCR will automatically stop when the end or the beginning of the tape is reached.
Stop:
Press the STOP button to stop all tape functions. After 5 minutes in stop mode with a cassette inserted, the VCR will automatically turn off.
How do I adjust the tracking on the AIWA VPX-1951?
This VCR has automatic tracking control which is active during playback.
If streaks appear in the picture during playback, press the TRACKING + or – button to correct the picture. The tracking indicator will appear on the screen.
What information is shown on the On-Screen Display (OSD) of the AIWA VPX-1951?
The On-Screen Display shows the status of the VCR. The display will appear on the screen for about 4 seconds whenever a function button is pressed.
The following items are displayed:
1. Function display (PLAY, REW, FF, etc.)
2. Tape counter
3. Audio playback status (HI-FI, MONO)
4. Cassette-in indicator
To reset the counter to zero, press the STOP button and then press both the TRACKING + and – buttons at the same time.
How do I clean the AIWA VPX-1951?
Video Head Cleaning
If the picture is snowy or unclear during playback, the video heads may need cleaning. Use a dry-type video head cleaning cassette. Follow the instructions supplied with the cleaning cassette. We recommend cleaning the video heads after every 30 hours of use.
Cabinet Cleaning
Wipe the front and top panels with a soft cloth, lightly moistened with a mild detergent solution. Do not use any type of abrasive pad, scouring powder or solvent such as alcohol or benzine.
What should I do if my AIWA VPX-1951 is not working correctly?
Before calling for service, please check the following points.
Symptom: Power does not turn on.
Check: Is the mains cord plugged in?
Symptom: No playback picture.
Check: Is the television turned on?
Check: Is the VCR connected correctly?
Check: Is the TV/VCR switch on the rear of the VCR set to VCR?
Check: Is the television set to the correct channel for the VCR?
Check: Is the tape recorded in the same TV system (PAL)?
Symptom: Playback picture is unstable or has streaks.
Check: Adjust TRACKING + or -.
Check: The video heads may be dirty. Clean with a cleaning cassette.
Check: The videotape may be damaged.
Symptom: Colours are poor or not present.
Check: Is the television colour system set correctly?
Symptom: The function buttons do not work.
Check: Is the mains cord plugged in?
